The year is 2014 and the Third Reich is about to celebrate its seventieth anniversary of victory in the Second World War…
Spanish citizen Eduardo Dominguez has been ordered to Germania for business, and while he doesn’t know it yet, he will soon discover that venturing into the heart of the Reich may be the most dangerous thing he has ever done.
A plot to assassinate the Führer soon unfolds, leading to a violent power struggle that engulfs the world capital in a bloody civil war that has no end in sight.
Hardly wanting to get involved, Eduardo determines that he must fight his way home, all the while reluctantly becoming entangled with the shadowy Gestapo, loyalist Wehrmacht and the dreaded SS.
In this pulse-pounding account of alternate history, Bradshaw has weaved an electrifying tale of one man’s fight for survival against an authoritarian regime that is hell-bent on tearing itself apart. If you are a fan of Fatherland, The Man In The High Castle or SS-GB, you will not want to miss this book.
Robert J. Bradshaw is a Canadian author born and raised in St. Catharines, Ontario. He relocated to British Columbia, seeking adventure. He currently lives in the Fraser Valley region.
Bradshaw has released six books to date. These include the science fiction anthology, A Stone’s Throw Away from Paradise, and the psychological thriller novella Nebulous Seas. His debut novel, A Monarch Among Kings, a conization epic, was released in 2022. His first two pulse pounding anthologies, Songs of The Abyss and Shadows At Midnight, were rereleased by Velox Books in 2025.
His latest release, The Sun Always Sets on The Third Reich, an alternate history novel, stormed its way onto shelves in March 2025.
He is currently hard at work on his third novel as well as another gathering of horror tales.
From the very first page, Bradshaw's plunges you into a chillingly realized alternate reality. The premise alone – a seventy-year-old Third Reich celebrating its victory – is enough to grab your attention, but the execution is what truly elevates this book to masterpiece status.
Eduardo Dominguez, an unwilling participant in the Reich's twisted world, is a compelling protagonist. His journey from reluctant observer to desperate survivor is a masterclass in character development over the short course of the book, drawing the reader into his harrowing experiences. Bradshaw expertly crafts a sense of claustrophobia and dread as Eduardo navigates the labyrinthine streets of Germania, a city teeming with secrets and simmering with violence. His companion and their relationship grows throughout, drawing the reader into his evolving feelings.
The plot is a relentless, pulse-pounding thrill ride. The assassination plot against the Führer ignites a brutal power struggle that feels both authentic and terrifyingly plausible in the real world. Bradshaw's attention to detail is remarkable, weaving a complex web of political intrigue that keeps you guessing until the very end. The descriptions of the Gestapo, Wehrmacht, and SS are chillingly vivid, painting a picture of an authoritarian regime on the verge of implosion.
The writing is sharp, the pacing is perfect, and the atmosphere is thick with tension balanced with some of the mundane actives found in the day to day while waiting for something to blow up, literally or metaphorically. Bradshaw's ability to blend historical accuracy with imaginative storytelling is truly exceptional. This book is a must-read for fans of alternate history, political thrillers, and anyone who appreciates a well-crafted story that leaves a lasting impact.
The last 20% are truly epic, packed with all the feelings but they are earned. This work made a lasting indention in my memory as any truly awesome work of fiction does.
The Sun Always Sets On The Third Reich: An Alternate History Novel, my first read from author Robert J. Bradshaw, an author I was unaware of until this book . A captivating, page-turning, well-written read, with unexpected twists & turns, it could have been titled What if the Third Reich won World War II? The primary characters are well developed & likeable. A must-read book! “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Seventy years after WW2 ended in a German victory, Eduardo Dominguez is in Germania (formerly Berlin) on business. The Spaniard will soon learn the Reich is not the utopia claimed in the propaganda films. Caught in the middle of a civil war, Dominguez is desperate to escape and return home, but can he avoid the Gestapo, the Wehrmacht and the SS? This is the ‘latest’ surviving Nazis AH I have read, and Mr Bradshaw starts out with some scene setting/world building in Germania as the lead arrives in the city – the planned architectural splendour and the bleakness of a potential Nazi dominated world. The move to the civil war and the leads story is quite abrupt, but rather well done, and I have to say this story just gets better and better. As a fellow AH writer, I really enjoyed reading this. Excellent.
