Dahlia Skysinger has made the ultimate mistake: she assassinated the one man who could have freed her from the cruel grasp of the human royals—her husband. Now branded a traitor by both realms and haunted by the ghost of a love she never meant to destroy, Dahlia must outrun her hunters and the truth that could unravel two kingdoms.
To protect her family, she’ll make one final, desperate bargain. Even if it means surrendering her freedom once more.
King Neve has every reason to hate the woman who nearly cost him his life and crown. With his kingdom on the verge of civil war and vengeance burning through his veins, he should want her dead. But when fate entwines their paths once again, desire clashes with duty, and revenge becomes something dangerously close to redemption, he must make a choice that could destroy everything.

A fantastic addition to the series! Picking up where the last book left off, I was glued to the pages! The book was full of twists and turns I never expected and I loved every moment of it. Dahlia was full of grit and perseverance. I enjoyed her growth and confidence in this one. And Neve, oh I love sweet Neve. He was perfect! I love how supportive and understanding he was. And I really can’t wait for more of them in the next book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5, so rounding up to 4 (with strong feelings)
I devoured Frost, book one in the series, which also happened to be my very first monster romantasy—and it was a solid five stars from start to finish. I was completely hooked. So naturally, I was beyond excited for Scorched Wings and immediately signed up to ARC read it.
Unfortunately… this one was a struggle.
The story jumps straight into the aftermath of Lia trying to kill her husband, and then spends over 150 pages with her on the run. Those pages were honestly painful to get through. I wanted to DNF so badly because I was bored to tears. Very little of interest actually happens—it felt like pure fluff. Lia is hiding as a fake halfling, running with Lo and Cosmos, existing in taverns while a literal war rages in the background. It dragged on for weeks for me, and the only reason I kept going was because it was an ARC and I was promised a physical copy.
And then… around 53%, it finally got good.
Once Lia turns herself in to her husband and the army, the pacing completely shifts. Suddenly, it’s dangerous, tense, full of secrets, and packed with everything that made me fall in love with book one and these characters in the first place. From that point on, it was genuinely unputdownable. I truly believe the first 53% of this book could have been condensed into 1–3 chapters instead of making it such a painfully slow read. Because the second half? That was fantastic. Especially the last 20%—that’s what I was here for.
I’m glad I pushed through, because this went from a one-star near-DNF to a four-star read for me. I just wish the incredible payoff hadn’t been locked behind such a long, boring buildup… and that it hadn’t ended on a cliffhanger instead of delivering that level of greatness much earlier.
I have been dying to get my hands on the second book in the Entangled with Trickery series ever since that heart-stopping cliffhanger. I guess I should have been careful with what I wished for. Scorched Wings was brutal but in the best ways.
Frost Kay knows how to torture her readers. I went into this book hopeful. Hope died a horrible death, and it was swift. This book ravaged my soul. I'm talking top-tier angst. I just wanted everything to be okay. Neve is, for lack of a better word, upset. Can't really blame him; after all, his mate did try to kill him. Both of them had a lot of conflicting feelings. Things were obviously complicated. My heart really went out to Delilah. She was caught in a horrible situation, and things only got worse for her. The worst part is that I can empathize with every decision she made. Like, I get it. The only good part that came out of this is the friendship between her and Loshika. They formed an unlikely bond, and it has only gotten stronger.
I was determined to finish this book in one sitting. I wouldn’t have been able to sleep otherwise. There was nothing but tension for the entire book, and nothing went the way I thought it would. There were a couple of twists; talk about bombs dropped. I couldn't believe it. At least Frost didn't leave us on another savage cliffhanger, but it does leave me wondering about what's going to happen next. If you like Frost Bound, then you're going to love Scorched Wings.
5⭐️ ARC📖 This was an epic sequel! The amount of tension, action, and plot twists packed in this book is on par with the first. I liked that the book didn’t immediately start with Lia on the run and that it picked up right where Frost Bound’s cliffhanger left us hanging - because let’s face it, it left us HANGING off a cliff!! I also enjoyed how the author isn’t afraid to touch on harsh and unsavory topics, I felt like it produced a sense of reality to the fantasy aspect. The anxiety rep for both MCs added an extra depth and Lia’s character growth by the end was phenomenal! Her friendship with Lo was lovely too 🫶🏻
Now let’s talk about the romance… This is a SLOW burn! It’s steamy, but not spicy, and it just feels right. For half the book we see Lia and Neve separated, which broke my little romantic heart but was essential to the plot. Then, when they finally do reconnect, there’s the correct amount of trauma and distrust between them. The “mate bond” was a nice touch and helped prolong the tension (which is my fav part). In all, it was a well executed slow burn!!
- Monster Romance 💙 - Royal Marriage of Convenience 💍 - Slow Burn 🔥 - Warring Kingdoms ⚔️ - He’s Hunting Her 💔
“he wanted to hunt his mate properly”
✨EXTRA✨: If you read the “Afterwards” section, you saw that OLWEN IS GETTING A STANDALONE!!! 😍
I needed some time to remember the characters from the first book, since it has been almost a year. I remembered the vibes of the book and some minor details, but it was not easy to place all that happened.
That being said, this was again a very cozy quick read. I like the writing style, the characters are lovely and the book has some depth. I also liked that we don’t get to see an insta forgiveness, but there is some slow development over multiple scenes.
Spoilers for my future self: Dahlia was a decoy princess bride for a giant frost king. She had the mission to kill him which she tried to do at end of first book. She ran away with her best friend giant healer and ended up finding her younger brother who was kidnapped in the first book. Her sickly mother was killed and in the end she has to hide in the border area between humans and giants. She disguises herself as a halfling until the war comes to her doorsteps and she is reunited with her husband who survived the murder attempt. In the end of this book the awful human king was murdered by his bastard son and Dahlia is suspected also to be kings bastard daughter? So she is not really a princess but she still has some royal blood. She is planing on killing the human queen.
This book stole my breath away. Even if we put all the obviously great things aside like the writing, the romance, the heat lvl (perfect btw- steamy & hot but still closed door🥵), how do you make us readers fall in love with characters with obvious physical differences to humans? Yes. The ML is a frost giant but I cannot stress how much I love that the author doesn't shy away from including his differences and making you fall in love with him. She makes you fall for a deeper aspect of him. His heart, his kindness, his growly side, his loyal side... The FL is no damsel in distress either and this book highlights her strengths. She goes through the trenches and she fights like hell though she feels less than brave and less than deserving. But she keeps going to protect the people she loves.
And the scene where he finds her??!!! 😩 Ugh...you could feel every single nuance with each pen stroke. The rage, betrayal, desire, pining, the shock..... The way he treated her after he found her spoke to a level of maturity of the writer herself. I was nothing short of impressed.
Scorched Wings is the second book in the Entangled with Trickery series and starts off exactly where book 1, Frost Bound let off. You must read book 1 first!!! This is like non-negotiable. You won't have any context of Scorched Wings if you don't.
I love how Lia listens to Neve and runs off but makes sure a healer finds their way to the Frost King. Lia grows so much throughout this story. Lia, Lo (Loshika) and her brother are constantly on the run, to escape Neve and his army. Always looking over her shoulder afraid because she knows the price to be paid for what she's done. Except, she can't let her Frost King go.
"Everything that you are belongs to me—your heart, your pain, your secrets, your lips . . .”
Neve, Neve, Neve.... oh how I love this Frost King. As bad as he wants to do what he knows needs to be done, he's so conflicted.
"The one in which I love you."
Oh and that ending! Hell yes!!! I loved it! I loved seeing Lia in a different light, taking charge. I can't wait for the next installment!
This book was an emotional rollercoaster... but so worth it! The angst, denial, and yearning--no doubt, that was next level craziness. But what came after that was perfect after all the turmoil, and emotional devastation. I loved seeing how Lia and Neve slowly find the broken pieces of their relationship and start to fit them back together. And seeing the characters in their worst moments, but also the moments where they're able to redeem themselves and we get this glimpse of the person they're going to become or the potential to become is everything! Also, this book deserves a standing ovation for some of the twists that had even me shocked. And now, I'm left on pins and needles for the last book, because dangit, I NEED to know how this is going to end! I can't recommend this book enough!
Scorched Wings, the second installment in the Entangled with Trickery series, picks up right where Frost Bound left off. Taking Neve’s advice, Lia flees Lorriia with Loshika in tow, running as fast and as far as she can. While they manage to evade palace warriors, the brutal elements prove just as dangerous as they search for Lia’s family.
Once reunited, the group is constantly on the move, doing everything they can to stay ahead of Neve’s army—and his thirst for revenge. Despite his anger over Lia’s betrayal, Neve can’t get her out of his head. Secrets begin to surface, but even more remain hidden, waiting to be revealed.
This book does an excellent job setting up the third installment, and I’m already eager to see where the story goes next.
🩷✨️ Book Review ✨️ Thank you so much, @frost.kay.author, for gifting me Scorched Wings 🪽 book 2 in the Entangled With Trickery series. ✨️🩷
This one picks up where we left off in book 1 which I loved. We jumped right into it and I was all for it.
The twists and turns in this one were so good. I didn't see them coming. I was feeling all the feels. It was so so so good! I'm absolutely loving this series so much!
The tension was my favourite! The plot twists were so good, the action too!
I am loving the slow burn romance between our main characters. This one is steamy! I'm loving these characters so much! I'm needing the next book asap! ✨️🪽🩷
Second book in the series and it picks up right where the first one ended. Lia is on the run with a friend and the two go through it hiding from Neve. They pick up her brother along the way and these three bound town to town trying to get safety in another country. Things don't go exactly to plan and Lia finds herself face to face to Neve. These two have to face each other and their feelings, and even after coming clean with a few secrets, Lia has a couple more that could cause the couple some issues.
Looking forward to book three and seeing Lia come more into herself and how she and Neve do as a couple!
This is a 6 star read! Everything is this book was chiefs kisses! From the moment I read Frostbound, I was obsessed with Dahlia and Neve story, and I was waiting patiently(not really lol) for the second book in the series. I read this book in less than 24 hours. I could not put it down! The tension in this book is perfection. The growth of both characters in this book is down so well and the political/world they are in keeps you on your toes. Spice- none they do have a couple of kisses but nothing goes beyond that. But the tension and want makes up for that. If you’re thinking of starting this series don’t wait, do it now! Now I wait very impatiently for the third book🫠
Frost Kay really draws you in. I am by no means a fan of "monster romance" typically, but Scorched Wings has my vote! This is very much a transition novel, so it seemed to be a bit slower than the first, but it really made sense on why. Both Lia and Neve grow throughout this book. They also both really experience a lot of trials and learn how to progress though them. I adore their relationship, and I can't wait for more! The ending was absolutely superb!! This one does not end on a cliffhanger, and there is no spice, only kisses. Check trigger warnings.
This is the second book of a series.. You need to read the first if possible.. Trust me.. You will want to because you love it! This book kept me awake! It was interesting and held my attention.. Neve and Lia are both hurting and loving but hiding... And Lo... She became a big part in this book.. This one has the same characters from before but it makes you love them more.. Makes you want to know more of "their" story. I cant wait to see how the next book goes..
Language: clean, has it own curse words…I think anyways lol
Romance: would probably put it at 🌶️. However still wouldn’t recommend it to anyone under the age of 18. There is some kissing, but for the most part Lia and Neve don’t reunite until past mid point, which is what led to the 4 stars instead of 5.
Would have liked to see more of them together. Books ends on a cliff hanger, but overall a good book.
This book was a hot mess. There were so many wasted opportunities. I was left disappointed. The first book was so good. What happened??!? I’ll probably read book three, because I have to know how it ends. I hope it’s as good as book one and not the dumpster fire that is this book.
Sexual content - zero Language- none Violence- mild
Did I like the first book better? Sure, but I quite enjoyed this one as well.
While the story remained entertaining, there wasn’t much progression in terms of plot. The MCs only reunited towards the end of the book, which is not a trope that I particularly enjoy.
All in all, a filler, but fun, sequel to the series.
Scorched wings is an enemies to lovers, captivating monster romance, second book in series that continues where book one (Frost Bound) finished. I devoured this book from start to finish without stopping because I simply could not put it down. Lots of twists and turns, excitement and intrigue. Looking forward to the next book in series.
I read through Scorched Wings incredibly fast and let me tell you I'm NOT a fast reader, but when I find a book that has the enemies to lovers, touch her and die vibes, found family, with twist and turns I'm ALL in. Frost has been one of my favorite authors for a while, I just love her writing style. She really hooks me into her stories, and I will say this is probably my favorite of hers now. I can't wait for the next book!!
A great read! I love both Dahlia and Neve and love how their characters have developed and shown a lot of growth, especially in the aftermath of book one.
I buzzed through it in one day and unfortunately will have to wait for the next one to come out.
Outstanding!! I will try not to give anything away here, but this book will take you through all the emotions. You will feel the tension! It was a real struggle to put this down, but unfortunately I had to work. 😊
If Scorched Wings is on your TBR, run! Don’t walk!
I was happy to pick up the second book in this series, it’s a cute little fun read. Luckily there is a third book to hopefully tie up and finish the series. The second book was a good read, some parts seemed tossed together and maybe even rushed to finish. Which makes the plot line seem rushed and probably why there is a third book. I’m not complaining about another book just maybe take your time with this one and let the plot make sense.
So much sadness and regret in this one. Dahlia has such strength and pain she is trying to overcome for herself and the ones she loves. Neve is just a wonderful Frost Giant especially with him fighting his emotions for Lia. Great story! Cannot wait for the next one!
This story just gets better and better. Lia continues to give Neve half lies to protect her brother Cosmos while slowly falling in love with her enemy. Looking forward to the next book in this series. Frost Kay always knows how to capture her readers when she writes anything.
I loved the first book so much that I pre-ordered this one. Sadly, I was pretty bored the first 50%. I wanted more of the MMC and less detailed politics. I will likely still read the third book since the first captured my attention but hoping we see more of their relationship
