Thornhill Road

Rate this book
Tess McBride is on a bad boy hiatus. After trusting her heart to one too many men with that devil-may-care attitude, she’s decided it’s time to consider other options. She’s on the lookout for someone less rough around the edges. A safe man. A reliable man. Though, given her challenging work hours as a hospice nurse, finding that man is a bit of a struggle—especially considering her most sacred rule to never get involved with a grieving family member.

A rule she’s tempted to break after a single visit with a new patient has her walking into a biker bar.

Mustang has been a member of the Wild Stallion Motorcycle Club for half his life. He knows no other family, except his little girl, whom he loves with all his heart. When he’s not busy being a dad, he’s with his brothers. He spends his working hours at his bar, on the Stallion compound in Gillette, and whatever time he has left riding wild and roaming free.

She walks into his bar, in pink scrubs and white sneakers, and he knows one look will never be enough.

Trouble is, the only way to get her is to travel down a street he hasn’t been on in years. It doesn’t take much for Mustang to concede, the woman he intends to claim is worth a trip down Thornhill Road.

Loved Tess and Mustangs story!!

Tess is a hospice nurse (love this line of nursing represented!!) whose patient doesn’t speak to his son anymore. Which leads her to a biker bar to find Mustang, who denies her request to visits his father but lands herself a date instead.

Loved that Mustang was a straight shooter telling everyone around him his thoughts or feelings. If you love an alpha male who has a really soft caring side to him, Mustang is your man. I also loved his relationship with MK - if anything I wanted more moments of them all together.

It switches between 1st and 3rd person POV but I felt like it still flowed well.

I feel like we need a Bull and Winnie novella but I’m excited for Maverick and Jenna, seems like we are in for some good sassy banter.

Why does being in a motorcycle club mean the men have to speak like English is their second language?! And the first then third person writing just doesn’t work in my opinion.

After I finished the first book ‘Toughest catch’ in this series, I got curious about the second story ‘Thornhill Road’. So I just decided to read it next. I’m happy that I did, I also enjoyed this one. This story can be read as a standalone, all characters were new, so you don’t have to read the ‘Toughest catch’ first.

This is the story of Theresa (Tess), a 32 years old hospice nurse. Who has the tendency to always fall for a ‘bad’ guy. She can’t help it. Just when she has decided to pick a good guy next, she meets Mustang, a 36 year old biker. He’s a member of the Wild Stallion Motorcycle club. Tess tries to resist him but the attraction between is too strong. But luckily for Tess, she isn’t the only how fall hard and fast. Mustang isn’t looking for an old lady but Tess has him rethinking this.

The story was told from both POV’s. As a hospice nurse who helped patients in their last months, week or days, Tess had to be helpful, patient and caring. To be good in her job, she had to keep her emotions to herself. But with Mustang Tess could let go, she felt safe with him. He did what no other man had done before, he took care of her. He cooked, made sure that her fridge was full and that she could sleep. He may be considered a ‘bad’ boy but he had a caring side too. He also was alpha, protective and possessive. Mustang had a four year old daughter MK and he was a wonderful dad. He loved his daughter deeply. He shared custody with MK’s mother Trix.

Just like the previous story, the attraction between the couple was big. They felt fast and hard for each other. They were just what the other needed. The sex scenes were steamy.

There was an epilogue in the story, I loved them and this one was great.

Th secondary characters in the story were, Tess’s older brother Andy, he’s an air force pilot. There was also Tess’s best friend Jenna, she’s an ER nurse. She’s the total opposite of Tess, but they respected each and because of their work they understood the burdens and the difficulties well. (Maybe good to know, Jenna is the main female character in the story ‘Ridin’ wild’, the first story in the ‘Wild Stallions MC’ series).

Mustang’s little daughter MK was so cute and sweet. I loved her!
We also met a few of Mustang’s Wild Stallion’s brothers, Bull and his wife Winnie, Maverick and Wrangler. They may be part of a MC and do bad things sometimes but they were great characters and loyal. They cared about each other and loved their children. It was great to see how they were with Tess, how they accepted her.

This was a great story and I’m looking forward to the next story in this series.

A very easy 5 stars!!

I love Annie’s writing, I love how different she is with first person POV for the FMC and third person POV for the MMC, it adds layers in my opinion, helpful to have the make perspective but the focus is mainly on the strong female role.

Tess is a Hospice Nurse who visits patients in their own homes. She’s assigned a new patient, Ed on Thornhill Road. She finds out he’s all alone and hasn’t spoken to his son in years. Determined to try and reconcile them, she finds his son. Instead she finds hot biker Mustang.

Mustang is owner of Steel Mustang bar on the compound of the Wild Stallions Motorcycle Club. He runs a successful bar with live music. When he claps eyes on Tess, he knows he has to have another look at her.

Their attraction is palpable and radiates off the pages, it’s steamy and hot. The affection this big man has for Tess and the need to look after her is downright sexy! He fills her fridge, and cooks for her, makes sure he learns her schedule and is there for her! He’s just everything a woman wants!

I loved this book and I love the Stallions series so much!! I also love how events in this book happen in Ridin’ Wild and you see them all from another perspective (Jenna and Maverick).

Y'all, this book was sooooo so so good I loved it. Everything about it. It was so nice being back in this world and even though I knew parts of their story from the Ridin trilogy but it didn't take away from the story at all for me, it just made it even better and a richer expience. I know not everyone can do that, but for me, it made it even better. And then seeing the interwoven parts of the story but from a different angle was so good. If you have been sleeping on these books, I implore you to go pick one up. They are kick your feet with glee good!!

Mustang, our MMC, What. A. Man. Phew, he was panty melting hot. He knew what he wanted, and that was that. Every time he said baby, it just made me swoon so hard. I don't know what Annie puts in her MMCs, but they are all addictive af. He was such a beautiful caretaker, even with his rough edges. What. A. Man.

Tess, our FMC, was so sweet, she knew she always fell hard and fast and usually with the wrong man, but boy was Mustang the right man who matched her energy. It was just so lovely seeing them fall in love. I really appreciated this being a no third act break up cause it just cemented how perfect they were together.

I absolutely loved Thornhill Road!

Tess and Mustang started from having instant attraction then turned to immense love for each other. Both of them just complimented and are just the right fit for each other.

I just absolutely adored Tess. She was kind, sweet and fun to be with. I just loved her personality and really wanted to be her friend. Mustang on the otherhand was a grump, straight to the point, and tough guy. As the story went on, we get to see his sweetness and protectiveness for the people he loves and cherish. His past had my heart aching. Reading about his parents to how he entered the Wild Stallion Motorcycle Club and finding a new family within the club had me tearing up. The brotherhood within the members was just heartwarming. They were their for each other no matter what. And lastly, Mustang being a dad to his little girl also got me in awe. He really made sure that she was well taken care of and happy.

Overall, Thornhill Road was a fun read. It was fast paced, yet their story still poured in swoon, spice and tension that kept me hooked. It was a whirlwind romance that will steal your heart. 💚

Thornhill Road is a single-dad mc-lite romance.
The story is told in alternating points of view in both the first and third person. I wasn't a fan of this method and would have much preferred if Mustang's POV was also in the first person.

The romance between Mustang and Tess had an insta-love feel. Once they met and hooked up, that was it. They were smitten and both eager to be together. While I appreciated their chemistry, their relationship lacked growth and excitement.
There were a couple of conflicts along the way (not pertaining to their relationship), they were swiftly resolved.

Overall, I liked the characters individually, and I enjoyed the sexy heated moments they shared together, but felt the story lacked intensity and failed to grip me.

This was my first book by this author but I can say it will not be my last. I'm not a fan of mc reads but man was this book so good.
Tess is a hospice nurse mustang was her patients son. The broken relationship with him and his father was not fixable as much as Tess tried.
This book had so many heart wrenching topics but this author did a great job weaving so many little stories into a wonderful story that flowed. It really had a fantastic group of characters that you learn to love. It simply flowed from start to finish. Life's losses and life's accomplishments are all here.
I never thought I would like a motorcycle club as much as I do this. And especially since it was a legit club.
I also enjoyed the fact the author told the reader a fantastic story without excessive violence and sex associated with a mc. Yes it had sex but in my opinion it was not over the top. Sure it was not closed door but very much appreciated that it did not dominate the story. Even though these two had amazing sex drives. Lol.

This story stuck with me after I finished reading it, Tess and Mustang just would not let go. I decided a second read was going to happen, and soon!

Tess is done with bad boys, and her choice of men needs to change. The universe has another plan. A hospice nurse whose current patient does not speak to his son, she decides to get involved. At the least, tell the son of his father's situation. She ends up with a date, so much for her change, as she finds the son at a biker bar in town.

Mustang has no filter, and if you are looking for an alpha male, who tells it like it is, has all the bad boy vibes, and is a single dad, this might be your book!

I love the characters, bits and pieces of things did not work for me, but not enough to stop thinking about the book. I am looking forward to what is coming next, as we get into Maverick and Jenna’s story.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

What can you say about this book except it’s amazing. It sets the scene for Ridin Wild which is amazing. In fact this whole series is amazing (you all know how I loved Jed from Ridin True). I literally can not wait for Ridin Free which is released in July and Thornhill Road introduces both the FMC and MMC so we get to know them a little bit.

Annie Winston is the absolute queen of writing characters. Mustang the MMC is absolutely amazing. Single dad who is slightly morally grey so you are immediately obsessed. And he uses the pet name ‘sugar’ which makes me immediately melt. Tess is brilliant as a FMC. She is an amazing nurse, she is so likeable, completely relatable and Mustang is obsessed after getting to know her.

Get yourself ready for Ridin Free’s release, start with this one then blitz the whole series - you know you want to 🤩

I love me a rough and tough mmc who is only soft for his girl(s)🤭

The way he spoke so roughly and bluntly but was so soft and sweet with Tess was everything. I’ve never highlighted so much when reading a book but I was just swooning over this man like crazy. I can’t tell you if I liked him calling her baby or sugar more😮‍💨

“You take care of people all day. Who’s takin care of you?” Thanks for taking care of our girl, mustang🫶🏻

I love Tess. She worked such a grueling job and was such a selfless fmc. I would’ve loved to see her bond with Mary Kate a bit more because obviously MK was Mustang’s world

The switch from first to third pov was weird and not preferred. But it didn’t deter me from enjoying such a great book

ARC Review

I enjoyed Mustang and Tess's story a lot. I'm still not keen on the switching between 1st and 3rd person, though!
Morally grey, motorcycle club member, bar owner, single dad...this book had many tropes I really like!
It covers tough topics; death, drugs, etc. These are covered well and in receptful way!
Mustang is your typical tough guy on the outside but a definite softie on the inside! He takes care of his girls (Tess and his daughter, MK), but will also fight anyone who wants to cause them harm!
Tess has a gruelling job as a hospice nurse, and then she meets Mustang, and all of a sudden, someone is looking after her!
Loved Tess and Mustang together though, really enjoyed them as a couple, even if it all happened very quickly!

This one surprised me in the best way! I’m always looking for the swoony, kicking my legs feeling and this one delivered!
Mustang was total MC goodness, alpha, hard around the edges but so soft in the middle. He loves caring for his woman, planning ahead and being thoughtful.
Tess loves big and falls too hard too fast but she finally found a guy to catch her.
I loved they way they communicated and looked after each other.
My biggest critique would be that I didn’t enjoy how Mustang primarily spoke in fragmented sentences. I know it was to convey his personality and emotion but it made him seem less intelligent than he was. Fewer fragments would be my preference.
All in all a super fun read from a new author!

Thorn Hill Road is the perfect mix of sweet and spicy! When a girl walks into a biker bar in pink scrubs and white sneakers, the gruff, alpha male owner knows one look won’t be enough. This small-town romance has it all—hot bikers, a morally gray hero, and a single dad who spoils the girl he falls for.

The chemistry is instant, the tension sizzling, and the mix of dual-ish POVs lets you see both sides of this whirlwind romance. Add in the Wild Stallion Motorcycle Club vibes, and it’s a fun, fast-paced read.

Adorable, a little dirty, and totally swoon-worthy—definitely one to grab if you’re into alpha males with a soft spot!

Alpha Male
Morally Gray Hero

Pour me a ranch water and let me read this book over again. It is easy to say that Annie Winston is one of my favourite authors I’ve discovered these past few months.

Mustang is a man of few words except all those that matter. He takes care of Tess by making sure she eats, sleeps, and feels loved. Tess is a fearless FMC that you’ll want to emulate. She had no problem walking right into Mustang’s bar and asking for exactly what she wanted. This book was the perfect introduction to the Wild Stallions.

A few of my favourite quotes:

“You, on the other hand—you can call me whatever you’d like.”
“You got a man now, sugar.”
“Baby, you need coffee to make sense in the morning or what?” (The way I can hear the intonation of this in my head 😆)

I was a little thrown off by Mustang's POV being written in the third person when Tess's was in first person - but other than that, this book was so lovely.
Tess is a hospice nurse and one of her patient's has a son named Mustang who he hasn't seen in 20 years. Tess tries to get Mustang to visit her patient but he refuses and cons her into a date.
Well - one date turns into a lot more and Mustang finds out that Tess is his perfect match. But Tess is super guarded and hesitant to let the bad boy (her favorite type) in.
Mustang is the perfect MMC... a single dad, protective, knows how to cook and just wants to care for the people he loves. 4 enthusiastic stars!!

I’ve been in a lil motorcycle/ bad boy era & this book satisfied that hunger. Mustang seems like your typical alpha male, rough around the edges MMC BUT NO. Turns out he’s a big softie for his girls & I loooove that. I’m just personally not a huge fan of the instant love trope, so that already lowkey gave me the ick. Like how can you be in love with this man after a week? I mean, would I also fall in love with a man who spoils me and cooks me breakfast everyday? Yes, but that’s besides the point. I needed more UMPH.

Thank you to the Author Agency and Annie Winston for this ARC!! 🫶🏼

Who doesn't love a biker romance 🏍

Mustang is rough around the edges but knows exactly what he wants and is willing to do whatever it takes to get it - in this case, Tess.

Don't mess with his woman, his daughter MK, or his club, and you'll have no issues.

Throw in some spicy moments, and you have the perfect HEA.

Looking forward to reading Jenna & Maverick's story in Ridin' Wild.

As a hospice nurse, Tess has two rules she follows: no relationships with her patients families and no more boys. However, that all changes with her most recent patient. He is completely alone, so Tess decides to reach out to his son, Mustang, with the local mc. She soon discovers that there is more life led by the patients than she sees. Mustang will do anything to see her again, including stepping foot on his father’s road. The two instantly grow closer, and he just wants to help her (and his daughter) when she helps everyone else. I love that Tess had no questions when he had to go get his daughter.

I love a good MC story. Tess is a hospice nurse who seeks out Mustang about his dying father. Mustang could not care less about his father, but Tess grabbed his whole attention. Mustang made sure Tess knew she needed to learn how to let people take of her. Mustang is honest to a fault, caring father, and let's be realistic a great cook LOL. We get a glimpse of this MC club and I cannot wait for more books in this club.

Small town, biker, alpha male, single dad romance. The story idea was good but I wish there was a little more showing and a little less telling. The relationship felt rushed because we were just told about what was happening instead of it being shown through their interactions. I’m interested to see how this author grows.

Thornhill Road was an insta-lust/insta-love read. It had a 1st and 3rd person POV, wasn’t a fan of that.

Mustang was a MC member, who was all about protecting his woman. He is a protective single dad. Tess is a hospice nurse and finds her way into his bar to let him know his estranged father is in her care.

I liked how Mustang was all about making sure Tess was taken care of.

I stayed up all night finishing this book! The writing is incredible and the relationship development between Tess and Mustang was delicious. There was just enough MC business to keep me intrigued. I didn’t know how I would feel about the third person chapters for Mustang but honestly it was so refreshing.

3.5 stars. Mustang is definitely the best part of this book. Tess was fine but not very interesting for some reason. They both fell pretty quickly and there didn’t feel like much in the way of conflict other than outside factors. Made it slightly boring by half way through.
