The Female #1

The Female

Rate this book
A reverse-harem fantasy romance

The female decline was swift.

Birth rates dropped at an alarming rate, and within years, men across all realms grew restless and aggressive. Their desperation led to women being collected at birth and sold at auction, and humans gradually became one of the most sought after.

Parents began hiding their daughters, birthing and stowing their females underground in a desperate attempt to keep them safe.

Charlotte is one of them.

Hidden from the men who would tear her family apart to get to her, she’s accepted that she’ll live her entire life within the thick walls of her childhood home.

When the human government permits a large-scale raid, Charlotte is one of the unlucky women caught. Forced out of hiding and thrown into the home of three powerful demons, Charlotte must learn how to stay alive in a world she’s only experienced through stories from her parents.

Filed under: Was it a good book or were you ovulating?

Struggling with a rating bc the concept was immaculate and I had a good time. I think this will be a 5 star vibes read for a lot of people!!

First 40% I was INVESTED. The spice? Delightful. But I feel like there could’ve been a bit more depth with the characters. I didn’t feel as connected to them as I would have liked…

At the end of the day, this is an unhinged why choose … I for sure recommend picking it up if that’s your vibe!

Too much of nothing

This book suffers the same issues that I had with Bloodshed where the author introduces too many elements and none is properly developed. It's not really dystopian, it's not really fantasy, it's not really paranormal, it's not really reverse harem, it's not really dark.

✦ Worldbuilding and plot

➜ The worldbuilding was mediocre at best.

Because the blurb says she is bought by demons, I assumed this would be a sort of fantasy world. There really isn't anything to indicate this would veer more towards paranormal (which I'm given to understand is our world but with magical elements as opposed to a made-up world). That in itself wasn't an issue, my issue was the lack of explanation.

Yes, the reason for the female decline is a mystery, but what is not a mystery is the state of the world they live in. They have electricity, she has a phone she uses to watch the news and she frequently refers to times before the Female Decline where she describes things as they are now.

For a long time, I kept wondering why, then, there were hundred of different 'breeds' (I don't know why the word 'races' couldn't be used, we say 'the human race' not 'the human breed'). Where did they all come from? Are we even on Earth? Why are demons using smartphones? Why can they teleport, but not do magic?

Imagine my surprise when at the 51% mark, this is casually thrown at us:
Their prejudices against humans are the reason we were one of the last to join their worlds. If we hadn’t accidentally stumbled upon a portal, we wouldn’t have even known they existed.

Come again? Humans in the 21st century (when Earth has been explored to death) 'accidentally stumbled upon a portal'? I'm going to need more details, especially since the demons apparently used to randomly go the Earth before the Decline.

As if that wasn't infuriatingly vague enough, throughout the book there's talk of 'realms', but nothing is really explained. Why are everyone else's realms connected and not the humans? Why does everyone else have some sort of supernatural powers, but not humans? How come everyone else was able to make portals, but not the humans? It's not as if all the supernaturals lived in one big realm, but they each have their own.

Finally, the reason why the Decline happened is never explained. "The fates willed it." or some vague crap isn't reason enough.

The reason for the continuation of the Decline was... strangely scientific? It came out of nowhere...

➜ The plot of this book is... uh... well...

This book relies too heavily on its characters. There wasn't a concrete path or even a vague idea of where the story needed to go. The heroine keeps thinking they know something, but even if she found out, what could she do about it?

Indeed when she does find out what they're hiding, it's a shock, sure, but she does nothing because she can't do anything about it. And that's because she is barely above toy status in the household. Which (conveniently) leads me to my next issue.

✦ The characters and their relationships

➜ The unlikable heroine:

I thought long (well, relatively) and hard why the heroine's "moody" and "pissy" attitude bothered me so much and why the Wrath demon's same "moody" and "pissy" attitude didn't.

Besides an unhealthy dose of internalized misogyny, I think I have an answer.

Women in this world are property. They don't have even the semblance of rights. We are told all the horrible fates that befall them. For example

⤷ Bought for breeding
⤷ Used for sex (depending on who it can be more than twenty males since they all need to pool their money)
⤷ Even when in a loving relationship (i.e. heroine's parents) they are forced to receive male company in their homes so lonely, female-less men can ogle and manhandle them.

When the heroine ends up with a rare and ancient Fate demon, the King of Wrath demon and a sunshine Incubus demon all of whom don't have plans to rape her or forcibly breed her you think "phew, that could've gone really wrong".

However, the heroine's immediately shrewish stance took me by surprise. She doesn't know they won't rape her, in fact for most of the first half of the book she fears both that and be sold into a worse fate.

Currently, she enjoys freedom of movement (let me remind you she was kept hidden for 25 years, she's barely even felt the sun before), freedom of choice (they won't force her to feed the Incubus, even in her dreams), enough food to feel stuffed, a warm SOLITARY bed, education, books, gardening. Yet, she keeps snapping at them and crying when they get angry.

WHERE THE FUCK IS HER SENSE OF SELF PRESERVATION?!?!

Regular present day women live life in a semi constant state of wary alertness.
Text me when you get home
Don't go out alone
Don't drink from a glass you temporarily misplaced/stop watching
etc.

This girl should be doing everything in her power to make certain she's never sold off. She has so little power, not even her breed (human) is special. There's nothing particularly interesting or remarkable about her.

Yet she has the confidence to be a pissy jerk most of the time???

That's what bothered me. That she has no sense of self preservation in a world where life is a living nightmare for women.

There's this instinct to cut the one going against the grain, the one that can risk the safety of the whole group. The heroine made me want to leave her behind.

To make matter worse, the author tries to justify her behavior:

Despite her physical weakness, she still screams and yells at us as if she has the strength to back up her words. It’s a human trait. The sad things are inclined to ignore power imbalances when they grow comfortable.

Most breeds can’t see past the power imbalance. It’s a miracle if they can even get a word out around me, choosing to either gape and stare or tuck tail and run away. Then there are the few who do nothing but cry.

I’m not sure what’s wrong with humans that they can ignore the part of their brain that screams danger.

Look, we've all seen the videos of stupid influencers trying to take pictures with wild animals or news of people eating things they really shouldn't. But to say that this is a general human trait is insane. Like I said before, most women are taught to be alert either by their parents or by experience. There are behaviors that might contradict the natural instinct to survive, such as mass hysteria, mob mentality or large-scale panic. But those are highly stressful, group situations. One on one (or one on three, in this instance) is not.

All her life, she's lived in fear of her fate, she should be wary and cautions, not 'snappy'.

➜ The incubus

He's the sunshine to the heroine's grumpy. Why does he like her grumpiness? We don't really know.

➜ The fate demon

He's pretty indifferent to the heroine from the first. He doesn't care either way: if they bond her good, if they don't that's fine too. He even rejects her advances once.

Then on the last chapter, he makes a move, sure that he wants her. HUH? Where did this change of heart come from?

➜ The wrath demon

He is full of anger and angst. He rejects his bond with the incubus (why? It's not because he's a man...). He rejects his attraction to the heroine (because she's weak, at least that we know). What I don't know is why he introduces the OW drama into their already very strained situation. He doesn't plan to bond the heroine, but the OW (cool, no problem, he doesn't want a weak mate). But he brings the OW to their home, where they all fear her harming the heroine, tells everyone they'll bond her once the human dies, keeps her a few days then tells her to go home and wait until the heroine dies because he would never hurt his demon brothers by forcing them to bond with OW before the human dies.

WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS?!?!

✦ Final thoughts

You might think "you didn't DNF so this book had to have something going for it, right?" Nope. I was just curious with whom she would lose her virginity. Turns out, we don't know.

She was bought to keep the incubus fed. The incubus feeds on sex. She doesn't have sex with him. Not even in her dreams, from where he fed most of the book...

I liked the incubus enough that I'm mildly curious about the next book, but I'm not certain if I'll pick it up. We'll see...

Eh ….. it was ok…..

If you going to read a very spicy romance with more smut then plot then I suggest you read Kiss of the Basilisk… it’s wayyyyyyyyyy better, there’s a good plot even though some people don’t like how spicy it is the spicy IS TOP QUALITY. Here many many manyyyyyyy things were lukewarm for me. The only character I really loved was Gray. Silas is ok and Aziel had the potential to be my favorite but he was barely in the book and when he was he was throwing a tantrum like a 2 years old …. Charlie is kinda of insufferable and even though I understood many of her reactions. I still didn’t like or related to her. I don’t even know if I’ll finish the series, I am honestly debating wasting my time in something I didn’t like all that much when I have an infinite tbr 😂

3 stars, I would have rated it 4 stars but authors who make their heroines not express any grief for losing one parent nor a thought for the other one who is missing(no spoiler it happens in the first 5 minutes), surely because it does not go with the heated and lusty mood they want to create, are a pet peeve of mine.
That just makes the story unrealistic and the heroine heartless.
And in the reverse harem genre, it just happens all the time. Authors just love making the heroine goes through trauma in the first chapter to make us feel for her, and grab us by our feelings, to just completely « forget » to deal with it in the rest of the book. Please stop.

Other than that I thought that the author really took time to flesh out her characters and that makes for an interesting read, especially for a reverse harem book where male protagonists are recycled carbon-copy of each other.
The world-building was satisfiying although some things that needed to be addressed and that could have added depth to the story were missing.
All in all, it was a well written and compelling book!
I’m tuning in for the next one🕶

This book dickmatized me.

The demon king and the incubus, who bonded by mistake 100 years ago and who have been in a gay panic ever since then, just did it for me in a way I can’t even explain. Their chemistry and especially their yearning and angst had me obsessed.

And then, I wasn’t prepared for the fates demon to turn out to be a good boy.

The human FMC won the lottery with these 3 demos.

3.75 🌟 🔴 SPOILER AHEAD!!! 🔴
Was there ever a more ungrateful bitch than Charlie? In this world situation she could have been bought by anybody and treated whatever horrific way but she gets purchased by three males who actually treat her like she's not a piece of property to rape whenever they want.
The fact that she was starving Gray (and knew it) was enough to piss me off. The fact that he was like I don't even have to touch you in real life I can just invade your dreams and her response was just like nah starve.. 🙃 and I'm not saying that she should put out but I kind of am because this isn't the regular fucking world and females of all races are not treated the way they are in our regular world. So in this your life is on the line situation...your Safety and Security and protection are on the line situation GIRL YOU BETTER. But no. She doesn't even realize how lucky she is despite the fact that she acknowledges it, she doesn't physically acknowledge it in any way or communicate that she appreciates them really in many ways. She just physically assaults them casually (despite the fact that if they were to do the same to her she would lose her mind and be super pissed but that's neither here nor there). To have these specific males protection is like hitting the lottery in this world. It's almost like she was plucked out of our world and put into this world instead of being raised in this world of horrors, you know. Am I saying all this because I'm slightly jealous of her situation? Maybe. Would I have put out to Gray and Silas and even Aziel's violent ass. Absolutely. I hate the bratty unappreciative woman, monogamous jealousy, virgin situation that's going on in this book or any book for that matter but all that being said this shit had some fucking charm to it.

Let's talk about our males.
✨Gray✨
An incubus with a heart of gold who just wants to be loved and to share his love of others. Has the discipline of a monk. Never wants to seduce someone based off of his lust alone. Our boy ain't out here trying to non-consensually seduce people. And will literally starve for days to the point where he is extremely weak and gaunt before he disrespects Charlies wants. He even tries to stay out of Silas and Aziel's dreams unless completely necessary. I love him. He deserves better then Charlie. Enough said.
💕Silas💕
Our intellectual submissive. Again disciplined as fuck. Refusing to involve himself unless explicitly asked or pulled into situations. Unless it has to do with protecting Charlie or Gray and Aziel fighting. Can read their cues every time. Intuitive. The strongest and oldest of the 3.
🔥Aziel🔥
We love a violent demon male. He makes me mad but in a very sexy way. The least disciplined male in the group. Second strongest and most quick to anger. This boy has a temper like nobody's business and the will to wield it. If people are dying it's Aziel's fault.
That being said I'm reading the next book immediately thank you bye.

Not terrible but nothing that makes me want to follow the series, and the writing felt incredibly underdeveloped.

Despite all the main characters being very different beings with wide age gaps, raised in different realms with different families/values/backgrounds, the same voice is used for each of them. The same vernacular, the same reactions, the same sentence structure, the same internal monologue. They weren't unique, just the same filling in slightly different shells.

There are countless holes in the plot that no amount of spackle could remedy, coupled with reactions and decisions which don't really jive with long-lived individuals even in this fictional, fantasy universe.

But one of the biggest turn-offs for me was how the FMC was written. I have no need or want to read about some weak, spiritless watering pot whose mercurial naïveté is used as a lazy plot device.

This is pretty dark, so peep the trigger warning, but I liked this! The FMC does cry a lot, but it's kind of warranted given her circumstances. I really like the three MMCs. Interesting story in terms of plot - it's unique!

Such an odd book. Nothing happened. But I ate it up. The FMC is unlikable and cries every 2 seconds. But I ate it up. The MMCs are misogynistic assholes (along with the whole world) But I ate it up. The plot is non-existent, but I ate it up. It was a lot of the same thing happening over and over again, yet I still ate it up. I genuinely didn't know what to rate this book. I was debating 2-4 🌟 cause it wasn't a "good" read by any means, but for some reason I couldn't put it down????? And it wasn't even one of those vibe reads that deserves high marks for entertainment value because I genuinely can't think of a single thing I liked. But yet, I've for some reason already downloaded and started the next book?????? send help what's wrong with me

Alright, this was a FUN time!

As tradition every month, my hormones sometimes choose my books for me and in February I guess this was my victim of that. I needed a easy Why Choose that just hooked me in, and this book did it perfectly.
This is about a human heroine and three black haired, demon men. One being an Incubus, one a Fate, and one of Wrath.

There were a few problems though. First, the start of the book was a bit rough. Charlie is taken from her family and due to that, her parents are stripped out of her life and one of them is killed. All of this happens VERY fast and seems a bit rushed to me.

You'd think considering how much she loved her parents, she'd care a bit more but she doesn't really ever bring it up at all. It's as though she doesn't care about them whatsoever, and it's a tad annoying due to how unrealistic it is.
It made Charlie come off a little insensitive, even if she was in shock and mourning a bit after it happened, it felt like she forgot entirely once the men were introduced.

That being said, I really enjoy the guys in this.
Gray is a huge suck, I love the incubus to bits. It helps that he's pretty much my type (black wavy hair falling over his forehead and all), but he's also a huge people pleaser and cares about consent despite being a literal demon of sex. I gotta appreciate that.

Silas is the serious, silent type who is a demon of the fates. He likes books and hangs out in the library most of the day when he's not working. Also, he likes to be dommed and begs. I'm not saying anything more because that's a check in my book.

And then we have Aziel. Oh the mixed feelings I have about this jerk. The virgin demon of Wrath is how you'd imagine him to be. A huge jerk who has a bad temper, and despite not treating Charlie well at all for most of the book, he is an obvious suck for her and I kind of love the dynamic. What's better than a man who pretends to hate someone but freaks out when someone hurts her?
I can't help it. I look forward to every interaction with these two even when I want to strangle this man. Sue me!

The smut is good, it's fun, and despite having read Why Choose plenty of times, there are scenes in this that I haven't read before which is a blast. There is no penetrative sex in book 1 and the heroine is a virgin. The men don't want to rush her and I appreciate the consent in a book that could easily ignore it considering the subject matter of buying woman.

I read this in 48 hours and started book two within seconds of finishing this, so safe to say I'm enjoying it (if I was reading this outside my romance mood, it would probably change but I'm allowing my hormones to dictate my happiness currently and right now, I'm loving it).

My Rating: 3 ⭐⭐⭐ Rounded up, because even though I hated every living thing inside this story, I still couldn’t fucking stop reading.

Series Status: Begrudgingly continuing. If book two doesn’t give me smut and character development, I’m filing a formal complaint with hell.

We Have:
✅ RH Romance (MMMF)
✅ Fantasy
✅ Enemies to Lovers (kinda… maybe… who fucking knows)
✅ Dystopian
✅ Virgin FMC
✅ Paranormal chaos
✅ Demons, humans, fates, succubi… the entire supernatural zoo
✅ Smut that kinda saved the day
✅ One cinnamon-roll succubus who deserved a different book
✅ One wrath king with permanent PMS
✅ One fate demon who communicates like a hostage negotiator
✅ A heroine with the emotional maturity of a broken smoke alarm
✅ Dream-smut but NOT REAL SMUT (rage inducing)
✅ Slow burn that isn’t even a burn… the stove is OFF
✅ Bonded mates triangle that feels like detention
✅ Possessive MMCs vs FMC who couldn’t read a room with Google Maps
✅ A plot that SLAPS while the characters act like middle schoolers

I swear to god authors are purposefully writing FMC’s that make me want to yeet myself off a fucking bridge….This girl… this girl… is the human embodiment of a malfunctioning smoke alarm. Beeping at random intervals, shrieking for absolutely no reason, impossible to shut the fuck up. She spent her whole life in hiding, stepped outside for five minutes, and suddenly thought she was qualified to challenge ancient demon politics like she’s running for senate.

Every moment with her is the same exhausting loop: swearing she won’t snap, then snapping harder; swearing she won’t say something stupid, then detonating the dumbest thought ever recorded; promising emotional growth while actively regressing.
If she asked “why” one more fucking time, I was fully prepared to throw her into the pits myself for some blessed silence.

Silas communicates like he’s working a hostage negotiation hotline, because if we’re being up front…He is. And the hostage is her brain. Ancient, patient, steady as hell… and stuck babysitting Miss “I Forgot I’m Literally Sold” while she spirals into new depths of nonsense. He tries honesty. He tries boundaries. He tries compassion. She gives him delusion. She gives him chaos. She gives him migraines the size of kingdoms.

The fact this man did not commit a felony on page is honestly a testament to Fate itself.

Aziel is supposed to be wrath incarnate… yet this millennia-old demon king spends the entire book trapped in middle school drama because one girl cannot stop screaming. His whole brand is “terrifying,” but here he is playing exhausted father at Disney World while the FMC melts down every five feet. Permanent PMS. Permanent irritation. Permanent “for fuck’s sake, girl, SHUT UP.”
If I were him, I would’ve marched her back to the auction block so fast I’d leave claw marks. Buuuut he “likes her” and some fucking how she makes him “feel” soooo we all have to fucking suffer….

And then there is Gray…My sweet cinnamon-roll succubus. The only creature in this house with stable brain chemistry. He’s starving because the FMC can’t grasp demon biology, trying to be patient, respectful, kind and she still treats him like his literal need to EAT is an inconvenience. Meanwhile he’s serving golden retriever energy wrapped in a Dom streak that absolutely could have fed the plot. He deserved love. He deserved peace. He deserved a competent partner, not someone actively sabotaging his caloric intake.

Y’all fucking KNOW I need smut to live. I cannot function without it. And this bitch stays a goddamn virgin the entire fucking book. Nothing in her cooch but some tongue and fingers IN A DREAM.
Dream-smut.
Not even real smut.
JFC I have never experienced blue balls on behalf of fictional demons until now.

If Gray isn’t the first one to fuck her in book two, I’m flipping a table, a car, a demon throne, and probably the author’s desk.

This book tested every ounce of patience I possess. I hated this girl with my whole chest. Every highlight from my notes was another nail in the coffin of my sanity. The tantrums. The endless arguments. The “I shouldn’t have done that” followed by doing EXACTLY THAT again. The secrecy she immediately wanted to blab. The contradictions that broke the laws of physics. The sheer volume of WHYs.

She’s a sold female in a dystopian nightmare where she could’ve been chained, bred, beaten, or worse ….yet she acts like she’s staying in a moderately inconvenient Airbnb. Her survival instincts are toddler-level. Her logic is nonexistent. Her ability to read danger is negative.
AND YET the god damn plot slapped so fucking hard I couldn’t put it down.

Truly the most infuriating type of book: the one you want to yeet across the room but still need to finish.
I’m reading book two.
I’m embarrassed about it.
If she doesn’t improve, I’m coming back with blood in my eyes.

Non-Context Spoilers That Had Me RAGE READING:
Full conversations. Full delusion. Full rage.

Exhibit 1:
Gray: “I’m starving, Charlie. I’m trying to hold myself together. If I don’t feed soon, I could lose control.”
Charlie: “Well you can’t feed off me. Absolutely not. Not in dreams, not in real life, not anywhere.”
Gray: “…Then I’ll try to find another source. I don’t want to hurt anyone.”
Charlie: “You’re going to feed on someone ELSE?”
Gray: “Yes. Because you said no. Because I’m literally dying.”
Charlie: “Wow. So I’m not good enough? That’s basically cheating.”
Gray: “Cheating requires consent and actual sex, which I am not having because you have banned me from EATING.”
Charlie: “This feels really disrespectful.”
Gray: “I am RESPECTFULLY starving.”

three days later, the man is visibly wasting away
Charlie: “I don’t understand why you let yourself get this bad. Why wouldn’t you just feed off me?”
Gray: just blinking in demon Morse code for “help me”
Charlie: “Seriously, why didn’t you ask?”
Me: GIRL. YOU TOLD HIM NO. YOU SCREAMED NO. YOU POSTED BILLBOARDS OF NO. YOU WOULDN’T EVEN LET HIM NIBBLE YOUR SOUL IN A DREAM. WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN WHY DIDN’T HE ASK???

Exhibit 2:
Aziel: “I have to attend this meeting. If I don’t, it signals weakness, and it risks exposure for all of us. I’ve explained this multiple times.”
Charlie: “Okay but… can’t you just say you don’t feel like going?”
Aziel: “…No.”
Charlie: “Why not?”
Aziel: “Because politics. Because war. Because survival. Because I’m the king.”
Charlie: “Sounds fake.”
Me: BRO. HE JUST GAVE YOU FOUR PARAGRAPHS OF REASONS. WHAT DO YOU MEAN “SOUNDS FAKE.” ARE YOU OKAY.

Exhibit 3:
Charlie: “I’m not dumb.”
Silas: “…Okay.”
Charlie: “No really. I make good choices.”
Gray: starving in the corner because of her choices
Aziel: currently preventing a demon war because of her choices
Charlie: “Everyone always acts like I don’t know what I’m doing.”
Me: YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING. THE BOOK PROVED IT ON EVERY PAGE.

Exhibit 4:
Az and Gray fighting like two apex predators ready to level the house
Silas: throws himself in front of her to shield her
Charlie: “Why are they fighting?”
Silas: “Because you insulted Gray, again, loudly, and they both heard, and now they’re losing control.”
Charlie: “Why?”
Silas: “Because they care about you.”
Charlie: “Why can’t I sleep alone?”
Silas: “Because you’re in danger.”
Charlie: “Why can’t I go to my room?”
Silas: “Because you’ll get hurt.”
Charlie: “Why can't—”
Me: IF THIS BITCH SAYS WHY ONE MORE TIME I’M CALLING HELL’S CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE.

Exhibit 5:
Charlie: “I shouldn’t throw tantrums. I shouldn’t scream. I shouldn’t say hurtful things.”
Charlie: immediately does all three at once like she’s speedrunning a breakdown
Charlie: “I’ll regret that tomorrow.”
Tomorrow: she does the same shit again
Me: SHE IS A LOOPING GLITCH. A BROKEN NPC. A WALKING ERROR MESSAGE. SOMEONE REBOOT HER BRAIN.

Exhibit 6:
Aziel (before dinner): “Listen carefully. You are pretending to be mine tonight. If you stare at anyone — especially another succubus — they will take it as a challenge. Do. Not. Stare.”
Charlie: “Totally. Got it.”

walks into the dinner hall

Charlie: IMMEDIATELY cranes her entire neck like a deranged owl and laser-focuses on Gray across the room
Silas: “Stop staring.”
Charlie: stares harder, like she’s trying to burn holes in him with her corneas
Aziel (whisper-shouting): “You are CLAIMING him. STOP.”
Charlie: stares EVEN HARDER out of pure jealousy

Other succubus: perceives the eyeball assault
Other succubus: “Oh she wants smoke? Bet.”
demon bitches assemble like it’s the goddamn Hunger Games

Silas: trying to keep order while quietly having an aneurysm
Gray: can’t move, can’t help, because if he does everyone will know exactly how he feels about her

Aziel: forced to step out for ten minutes because he literally cannot control his wrath with the amount of jealousy-fueled staring she’s doing

returns to the hall
Aziel: walks into a full-on demon melee with Charlie at the center like an idiot who activated a trap card she didn’t read first
Aziel: “WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS GOING ON IN HERE?”
Everyone: “Your girl stared at the wrong bitch.”

Aziel: loses his fucking mind
Wrath demon instincts: FULLY ENGAGED

“I just… don’t understand why this all happened.”

Me: IT HAPPENED BECAUSE YOUR EYEBALLS START WARS. BECAUSE YOU WERE TOLD NOT TO DO THE ONE THING YOU IMMEDIATELY FUCKING DID. BECAUSE YOU CAN’T FOLLOW A BASIC INSTRUCTION FOR TEN MINUTES.

This was the most painful read of 2025. I can’t tell you what the plot was. I can’t even tell you what the tropes of the book are. What I can tell you is Charlotte is the most annoying and whiny FMC that was ever written. Aziel literally was only in the book probably 2% great. He is the weirdest incubus character I’ve ever read, and not that he has to be all about sex, but I don’t understand what the author was trying to do here. Then there’s Silas. The fate can like see the future, I guess, but none of that was explained about the different types of beans that are incorporated into this world or worlds. And the author had the nerve to end on a cliffhanger in a bad cliffhanger at that, like it’s the end of a sentence. Usually, I would proceed to the next book just to see. Because I hated the FMC so bad, I will not 10 out of 10 recommend this series.

Yes! YES!

I loved EVERY SECOND reading this book!

I became attached to each of the main characters as I read from their POV, and I was rooting for everyone to get it! 🤣

I don't think I've been so excited and so involved with a book in such a long time. I've been recommending it to all my friends!

⭐️ 3.5 - 4 still undecided.

I don’t know who said this was really spicy but I need to have a chat with them because what do you mean nothing happened. (Apart from a few foreplay scenes)

Edit: I was in fact ovulating. As I continue the series the less I like this one.

The opening concept hooked me immediately. A world where female numbers have plummeted, girls are hidden underground, and women are auctioned off is not unusual in the smut world, but something about the setup here felt fresh. I absolutely flew through this book. I mean, could not put it down. Like other reviewers said, I must have been ovulating because I devoured it.

Charlotte’s introduction was strong and the dystopian tone had me locked in, but once she ended up in the home of the three demons things shifted a bit. She starts reading almost like a child (ew), crying at the smallest inconvenience, and the demon men who are supposed to be ancient and powerful suddenly act like prepubescent boys who happen to know their way around a woman’s body. The plot also kind of evaporates for a big portion of the story. It becomes vibes and spice over anything else, which may or may not work depending on what you’re looking for.

The spice though. That part delivers. This is absolutely one of those books you pick up when you need a ridiculous why choose romance with minimal plot and maximum heat. And yes, I immediately jumped into book 2 and am flying through that one too.

0.25/5* and I’m being generous here

The second book is called Her Males and tbh it feels like the first one should be called that as well because we learn nothing about our FMC.

Charlie has no personality and all I’ve learnt in book 1 is who the guys are (they’re horrible).

Three ageless demons could’ve stopped extinctions of multiple species, an impending extinction of humans included, but didn’t because 👉🏻👈🏻… and she still pines over them?? Really?

If there was ever was a female birth decline this is exactly what would happen!!!!!! This is probably why I was so interested in this giant introduction of a series. I didn’t know it was a series. lol. Anyways, I was so fascinated by the story I didn’t even realize it was almost over. It is very interesting and full of so much to do with the decline of women and how the world changes to the absolute worst for women. Of course it would be even worse for women.

Anyways, this is about that but also about Charlie, she prefers this to Charlotte, and her maybe 3 new mates. Of course these men have a lot of power and all the demon women are trying to kill her. It’s a mess. But a mess with lots and lots of orgasms foe her. There’s a lot of telling when it comes to feelings and I wish there was more relationship development. It’s just a lot of lust and these men are powerful but because they have so much power never fully trust women. Like I said. It’s a mess. But again, and interesting mess.

I did kind of did not enjoy this book but I also ate it up in two days!? It was a lot of nothingness and the plot was weak. I see the potential but, somehow it felt rushed and slow at the same time. I didn’t like the fmc.
