I loved the first two books in the series, but this one was a little disappointing. It felt very rushed. And the storytelling did not go really “smoothly”. It’s really sad because with what happened in book two I was excited for Nayla her story, but she did not really go very in depth with that particular plot.

From here on you will read spoilers.
As we know Nayla got Koraine her gift from the Moon Goddess, and she has to find away to accept herself and her power, but the whole book she doesn’t understand it and can’t accept herself, and then all of a sudden she has to fight for Thalia and she accepts everything just like that.. And with the addiction too. She just decides that it’s done and she will not take more, without it really being a struggle besides the brief night she decides to quit. While Thalia has this whole rant about how people will never be able to stop the addiction and how bad the drug is..

Also for the whole book she doesn’t really have a plan how to take down the market and kill the warden. But then one day she is over it and just goes for the warden and then everything goes down. And I know she did talk with Thalia and Xora about a plan, but we as readers are not really taken in with this part of the story what makes this part of the book feel rushed and more distant in my opinion.

And to top it all off the warden is her uncle, and he hates her for what her father did to her mom. He also hates her for helping her father in the war even though her father controlled Nayla just like he does with the people in the market.. the warden being her uncle was also very predictable. From the moment he wanted Thalia to keep her as a prisoner I knew he was a relative of her mom. It was just very obvious with the whole thing of her mom’s family never reaching out and all.

It’s really sad because I was really excited about this book. I’m curious about the last book, but I don’t have high hopes after reading Eternal Moorlands.

This was a lovely tie-in to the Elemental Arrangement series, completing the redemption arc of our supporting-character-turned-villain Nyla. While I didn’t particularly enjoy Nyla as a character in Warring Tides, it was nice to follow her growth as she tries to figure out who she is and where she belongs as she navigates the new regime and heals from her previous abuse with her powers and new physical disability and addiction. I know that’s a lot, but we get a lot of sapphic angst in this captor/captured to lovers magical fantasy. Both protagonists have a lot of trauma, so double check your trigger warnings, but it’s a lovely journey where two very hurt people find companionship, strength, and eventually love in each other as they help each other on their healing journeys. I do feel like the plot was a bit basic and rushed at times, but I also didn’t see the twist coming at the end, which I like. I recommend reading the first two installments of the series first, otherwise you will be pretty lost and the story will perhaps feel flat.

I am grateful to the author for providing a complimentary copy of Eternal Moorlands in exchange for my thoughts. I also cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment; I was absolutely obsessed with shopping Caspian and Asena in Warring Tides, and I cannot wait to see that relationship story play out.

No Spoilers! Another AMAZING book from MK! I’ve loved everything she writes and I especially love the elemental arrangement! This book is the perfect sequel to the first two in the series and I cannot wait for book 4.
