Rate this book
Living with three powerful demons is not easy, especially when they’re dead set on making you theirs.

Charlotte’s life was decided for her the moment she was born, but now she’s faced with the opportunity to change the fate of millions of purchased females—and the generations to follow. Her males have agreed to fight to free her kind, righting the mistake they made so many years ago.

Thrust into a world of politics and nuances too subtle to understand, Charlotte quickly learns the truth is never what it seems. Lies and deceit pull her in different directions, and she soon begins questioning who she can trust.

Charlotte finds herself navigating alliances and broken promises with the strongest rulers of the realms, all while discovering who she is beyond just a purchased female.

Charlie cheating on them made no sense for her character. Especially since she was used to the power of lust……like if anything Gray starving himself & then finding someone outside of them would have made more sense…even Silas cheating would have made more sense……

i enjoyed this enough to finish it, and i know that if the third book were out i would keep reading, so that’s what the 3 stars are for.

SPOILERS->

the bad:
the sequencing of events is just…clunky? i wish the first book had ended with Charlotte bonding with at least one of the men, and that she had not discovered they were hiding info about the females until afterward. i think this would have made her devision to leave with shay more logical, because she would have felt much more betrayed and that much more desperate to get away from the men. i also think her being angry at them would have been a much better reason for her staying away from them - because, frankly, it made no sense for her to think they’d harm her.

Charlotte cheating on the men is nonsensical on a few levels. 1) even if she felt unsure about her relationships at this point, we know that charlotte is staunchly faithful. she made a sex! demon! agree to not feed off anyone but her (and the other man if they allowed it) 2) charlotte is used to being around gray’s lust power. even if she hadn’t experienced the full magnitude of it, she could handle a good deal of it. so, it doesn’t add up that Emily’s powers were what drove charlotte into the tryst. 3) the shifters are clearly a monogamous crowd. kato clearly had no sexual intentions towards charlie until his partner encouraged it with her succubus powers! and again that shouldn’t make sense, because i would assume that kato has resistance to his own mate’s powers just as charlie does.

i know a lot of people can’t stand cheating in romance, which i completely understand. if i’m honest, i probably could ignore how messy it was plot wise if the aftermath with the men was handled well. but i don’t really think it was, because despite how angry they are, both gray and silas have essentially forgiven her by the end. silas vowed he would never be able to be in a relationship with her because of it! and then 10 pages later he’s hooking up with her?

the brutal truth: i think the author set up all these dominoes that could have fallen nicely if pushed correctly, but instead she got impatient and knocked them all over too quickly.

all that said, i still find these books enjoyable for some unknown reason. so…. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This was such a disappointment compared to the 1st book. So much so that it basically ruined any chance of my continuing the series which sucks because book 1 had me hooked thinking this would be a series to get lost in. Aziel being able to have a relationship with Charlie despite zero groveling or apologizing for the absolutely horrific things he said & did in book 1 is unacceptable for me. She said she wanted him to put in effort, there was none. He said he was going to fight for her, he didn’t.
And now she’s pregnant 🤮
In my opinion, the pregnancy trope is where good books go to die, so I can’t imagine the series getting better after any of this. In addition, I can’t get down with Silas and Gray being mad at her for “cheating” when she was under the influence. Idk that doesn’t sit right with me personally. Outside of that, I guess the 1 ⭐️ is for the spice, cause the spice was good. Everything else sucked.

I went into Book 2 with low expectations, but it totally delivered. It’s 3:51 AM and I’m still awake because I had to finish, so honestly, that says it all. Apologies in advance if this isn’t the most coherent review, again it is 3 AM and my brain is mush.

Look, I am not gonna hold back here. I mainly decided to read this series bc the author keeps popping up on my FYP and i thought i should give it a shot. Now, let me be abundantly clear. I have no idea what the actual plot of this series is. I originally gave it 3 stars, but going back, I am demoting it to two. If you are the author and are reading this, I am sorry. You seem lovely, however, I had some major issues with your novel.

FIRST, WHATS WITH THE CHEATING. EW!!!!!!!!! As I was explaining to one of my friends yesterday while I was reading this, I absolutely despise cheating in general. I think it is gross. You either commit or you break up. Charlie went from being completely in love with Silas and Gray to having Kato and Emily finger fucking her in like five minutes flat. I get the whole point is that she is young and inexperienced, however, SHE KNEW WHAT SHE WAS DOING. AND THEN POUTED AND ACTED LIKE THEY ARE BEING SILLY!!!! WHEN SHE TOLD SILAS THAT HE IS GOING TO FORGIVE HER, I WANTED TO PUNCH A WALL FRAT BOY STYLE. He does not have to forgive you. I wouldnt!!!!!!!!!!

SECOND, SHE IS FUCKING PREGNANT???????? ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? BE. SO. FUCKING. FOR. REAL. YOU CANT HAVE HER CHEAT AND BE PREGNANT. WHAT REALLY BOTHERS ME ABOUT IT THOUGH IS THAT EVERYONE AROUND HER KNOWS THAT SHE IS PREGGO EXECPT HER!!!!!!! Like slap my ass and call me Rhysand with they way those three demons are behaving! Jesus christ!!!! WE DONT KEEP SECRETS ABOUT REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH!!!! SOMEONE NEEDS TO TELL THIS WOMAN SHE IS WITH CHILD!!!!

Third, and finally, I despise the way that they infantilize her. She has every right to be upset with them, especially when they are responsible for like multiple species going extinct because Gray wanted to what??? prove a point??? make his dad suffer?? But they act like she is unreasonable when she calls them out on their absolute bullshit!!! you have 3 "males" all over a century old with little to no emotional intelligence, and one 25 year old who is emotionally stunted because she was kept under the floorboards her whole life (literally). I cant possibly see why this isnt working(heavy on the sarcasm there).

In total, would I recommend this? sure if you are fine with the any of the things i mentioned above. However, I will say read at your own caution. There is only so much Handmaid's Tale meets Monster smut that a girl can read before she LOOSES HER DAMN MIND!

Probably the most unstable, immature, weak, disrespectful, annoying, insecure FMC ever created. Can Charlie just exit this series? I swear if her lip wobbles one more time. 😤

***Review Shared for Series***

This is a long one because I really wanted to like this series...

Okay.. the first book is good, great even. This series was well on its way to being a favorite for me. But the second book ruined it for me.

When it comes to Charlie I really liked her in the first book. She was strong but also intelligent when it came to showing that strength and when to let things slide considering the world she grew up in. However, as time went on her character just didn't feel real. She was wayyy too cocky in my mind considering everything she had been through. It just didn't make sense. Not to mention the fact that she is never happy with what is given to her. She expects everything to happen right at that moment and is willing to put herself in danger to accomplish it. But here is the thing. She is a weak ass human and is trying to change things that have been going on for over a hundred years. She is so freaking stubborn and I found it annoying as time went on.

"You're pathetic," Charlie says, her tone venomous. "No wonder Nicolette chose the den over you." book 1 pg 357.. this seemed sooo out of character and cruel. This was the beginning of the end for me when it came to Charlie.

Also trigger warning? Because she totally cheats on her males in the second book. To make that worse, it was with people that didn't even really make sense. I was really not expecting it at all. I honestly thought she may have ended up having a relationship with Kato's son.. Others tried to say that she didn't cheat and was taken advantage of.. but she had gotten used to Grey's lust and considering Emily had a mate and stuff and lived with the shifters you would think she would have a better handle on things? Not to mention the fact that she was still a virgin and had been able to resist Amod? The lust king? But not this random mated succubus? She literally justified it in her head too. It was cheating.

Overall.. when it comes to the males they act incredibly immature and it only gets worse with time. For demons that are supposedly hundreds of years old they act more like 15 year old boys. They also continuously keep things from Charlie knowing she is a lose cannon which ultimately leads to her being in danger... shocker.

Gray started out as a favorite. But as time went on he became my least favorite character. He just ended up acting like a spoiled brat. He wants to be everyone's favorite and makes them say that they love him the most. And when things don't go his way he practically throws a tantrum..

Book 2 pg. 325 - "I'll cover the mark she left on Aziel with mine someday, and my teeth will sink in much further than her flat ones." - Gray being jealous about her leaving her mark on Aziel. Worth noting he was given the opportunity and didn't mark him sooo.. you snooze you lose.

Book 2 pg. 359 - "You want me more," Gray decides. Silas turns to hide his laughter, and Aziel snorts before giving in a curt nod. "Yes, Gray I want you the most," he agrees.

When it came to Aziel I surprisingly enjoyed the bully aspect of the relationship in the beginning. But it came to an abrupt end with no groveling. Suddenly he was just kind of obsessed with Charlie and didn't have to answer to any of the awful things he had said about her.

Silas WAS a favorite. But then he ends up acting like a selfish d1ck. Considering he is a fate you would think he would have a little more wisdom. Not being willing to help save Charlie from lust made him irredeemable to me. Especially considering he didn't ACTUALLY know what had happened and just assumed the worst of Charlie.

All that aside there are quite a few plot holes. Some small, some big. For example Charlie is naked in the beginning of book one but on page 62 "I state at my shoes" those are what some of the little ones are like. Larger ones like Grey being exiled from Lust because he was possessive but then anytime his possessiveness comes out it is blamed on him being an incubi didn't make sense. If that was the case he wouldn't have been exiled to begin with?

I have never started reading a book for the spice, but with this series that was definitely my intention. I heard “incubus” and I thought hmmm interesting. Then I became obsessed.
I’m not really sure about my rating for this book, but I do know I was way more upset reading this book compared to the first. It just felt like all over the place? There were times there would be a small time skip in the middle of them discussing something that seemed important, then when you read the next line in the book it’s like nothing just happened.

AND SOMETHING THAT REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS is Charlie being PREGNANT!? She quite literally hasn’t even stepped outside or touched grass until a few month ago and now she’s pregnant!? Can she just live?? And why are we just skipping over the fact that she’s THE QUEEN OF WRATH now?? That seems like a big deal and something you might want to really think about and discuss before bonding with the king.

And also sex just doesn’t cure everything. STAND UP! You just hated Aziel last week and now you’ve agreed to be his soul bonded immortal life partner? What did Aziel even do to earn that? It’s like she was just desperate after cheating and made this huge life decision. SPEAKING OF CHEATING… WHY!? She could sit there and fight off the king of Lust without giving in, but a half succubus woman and her husband is your breaking point?

I have a lot to say I guess.

That was just so odd to me. They told her she could come home, they just wanted her safe and she just refused to believe them after everything they’ve been through? Doesn’t make sense. And after being jealous that your literal sex demon boyfriend has been with other people, you say he can’t feed off anyone but you.. then you cheat on him? Just doesn’t make sense.

It also upsets me that Aziel just almost immediately forgave her and made a huge decision that would also impact Gray and Silas, and it was just annoying. It also felt like Charlie and Aziel being in love and bonding was just so soon, so random, so unexpected.

At this point I’m just reading for the spice. I can’t tell if I’m pissed off in a good way or not about everything else happening in this book. But also the spice is like ?? maybe it doesn’t really fit into the story at times? I’m not sure.

Anyway I’m gonna keep reading the series because I’ve already committed, and I’m half way through at this point.

The first half of this book was amazing. It really fell off the deep end once Charlie . This was Aziel's book, and I loved all of his scenes.

It's a good thing that book 1 hooked me so thoroughly and that book 2 had more Aziel POV chapters than book 1 because 57% in....I literally can't. I am physically restraining myself from skipping the Charlie chapters. But I do love the way this book ends even if it was a little abrupt. I can't wait for book 3 if only to see Aziel tell Charlie what he needs to tell her & to see Grey&Silas finally completely forgive her.

Charlie with her decisions surpass even Elena Gilbert levels of being simultaneously stupid and annoying.

Maybe she's just a better person than me but I'm not starting an interspecies/inter-realm war and risking the obliteration of my new family just because I'm impatient and they're not doing things my exact specific way.

Newsflash babes you're still in remedial algebra & failing history tests while your 3 housemates have been politicking for centuries.

Did they screw up? Monumentally. I was honestly not sold on forgiveness for them after book 1, they can't undo all the lives they've destroyed. But in the grand scheme of things, it's fine to let them untangle the mess they made at whatever pace they can to minimize further damage to themselves and others.

No matter how fast they move there is no fixing what the men have broken, there's only making sure the future is better and the pacing for that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of the universe.

Maybe that's what's really annoying me about Charlie? She's childishly seeking out these quick immediate fixes and refusing to see the bigger picture, making rash decisions while refusing to think even one or two measly steps ahead.

That said, I am so so so excited for book 3 and will be quite literally dying of anticipation.

I sped through this one just like book one. Literally could not put it down. But that being said, it was not good. Pretty much say goodbye to any logical plot here. Almost any excuse for a spicy scene is used and every other scene turns into one.

If you take even a quick look at other reviews, you will see the giant romance reader ick.

The men act like children, Charlie is infantilized even more than before, and pairing that with the plus constant smut is a no from me. I have already started book three, but I am pretty sure I am going to DNF.

Short version. Fast read. Lots of spice. Almost no plot. A whole lot of icks.

edit, i have not thought about this series since reading it soo i dont think i will continue sorry queens

i feel like this totally had the potential to be a really cool concept but it honestly fell flat :/ for how good of a slow burn they had things in the first book, they really just said fuck it in this one lol. now a war is starting but it felt kind of abrupt, so we will see if i feel compelled to see this series through. there are still some questions i would like to be answered but one of my least favorite things happened: they fucked ONCE and now she’s pregnant soooo that’s lame af but whatever. clearly child birth is a major part of this world

Ok well I guess NOW I know why people said it was really spicy 👀 the 3some scene with the lads 👀 okayyyyy

But also, what?

Heavy dose of cheating (I won’t say who) that plays a MAJOR part of the 2nd half of the book. Did not enjoy this plot line 0/10.

I don’t really get what’s going on, some things feel so forced, other things direct switch ups (Az was inexperienced and shy and now is a bad bitch in the bedroom? 🤨 sure, ok)

Book 1 = Handmaids Tale meets Lucifer but not as good as either of those
Book 2 = Kingdom of the Wicked meets Shrek but make it why choose and not as good as either of those

Honestly, I don’t even fucking know. But I do kinda want to keep reading 😂

I’ve never realized how much I like a clear beginning, middle, and end to a book. Even in a series. These pieces of a book cut into smaller pieces to make a story but not a complete book are not my thing. Yet I’m rushing to the next book. Haha. I’m just extremely happy all books are out because if not, I would revolt.

Okay, okay, now we’re cooking!

The plot thickens in this one and we get more of it than in the last one. There’s still lots of spice but the author is spending some time building out the plot and character development so I actually like this book more than the first.

Same troops as book 1
