Brooke loves teaching, but after being laid off only weeks before the start of the new school year, she finds herself in desperate need of a new source of income.
It’s too late in the year to find a new classroom position, so when she learns about an open nanny job, she decides to give it a try. Rent isn’t going to pay itself, and her background in childhood education makes her a good candidate.
What she doesn’t realize is that she’ll be working for Nate, a recently widowed father of a four-year-old boy.
He's reserved and distant, and a painfully attractive distraction Brooke wasn’t counting on.
Invi Wright is the author of several romance novels, including The Female series, Aine, and The Professor. She had just begun her career in marketing when she decided to start a new hobby— writing. After many tears and more anger walks than is probably healthy, she decided to pursue writing full-time and began the journey of becoming a self-published author.
Really good short romance book. Definitely had some spice and good romance. One thing I would’ve liked was a more laid out time line cause i was getting confused in areas
I’m so glad the two main characters don’t have weird insta-lusty thoughts about each other immediately when they meet. Like she thinks he’s attractive, but isn’t gross about it. That’s a big pet leave of mine. I like that she’s naturally and slowly realizing just how attractive Nate is.
I loved the relationship that all three of them have. It’s so cute. There are many cute and sweet moments. I found myself giggling a lot!
The ending def felt pretty rushed to me, but it was a short ish book! It just felt like we were rising and rising to the climax of the story, and we got there but it was sort of meh, and then they were bam, together with little struggle.
All in all though! Very cute and easy read. Just something to make your heart warm and a little spice in the background!
_____________________________________________ Thoughts while reading (probs spoilers ahead):
I’m having a visceral yuck reaction to her current bf excluding paying for a measly box of tampons for her. Like wtf. Instant dump.
Jeez Jason is an annoying prick. He wants to read over the contract to make sure she doesn’t get confused. Like wtf she understands it perfectly. Crash on his couch? They’ve been dating for 4 years. Break up with him rn girl.
“his butt sticking into the air in what can only be described as an inchworm position.” (55) haha that’s the perfect description of the little kids sleeping position.
Stahpppp Ethan being excited to make a card for his sister. And him knowing exactly what he wants to get from the craft store to make it. 🥹 and then Nate coming home and joining. Making his own card too. 😢
Lol Nate loving hearing about relationship drama is so funny. I love it.
I guess I get her reasoning for not breaking up earlier. It’s easier said than done when you’re comfortable with the relationship, and he does get better sometimes, but unfortunately only lasts like a week before going back to be a dick.
Haha the scene where a sex scene comes on while they watch a tv show is really funny and kind of endearing with how embarrassed she gets. Nate laughing so hard at her embarrassment that he chokes on the ice cream he’s eating.
Nate effortless jokes around with her, and I love it. It doesn’t feel forced, and it only makes her feel more at ease. Especially when she thinks she’s said something maybe cringey.
Haha a drunk Nate recapping how poorly his date went is pretty funny. “Well, that’s okay. There’s a lot of medicine out there for—” “My penis works perfectly fine, Brooke!” (119)
“It was like an earthworm,” he continues. I tilt my head to the side, confused. “What?” “My penis. It was like a sad, squishy earthworm.” (119) BAHAHA
“I think your earthworm has had enough exposure for one night.” (122) LOL I’M DEAD.
I love how much Ethan loves to be involved with his dad’s birthday breakfast. It’s adorable.
Bahaha him reading her dating profile out loud. I would also be cringing.
“And to think I shaved my butt crack for this date. I’m going to have an itchy ass for three days and no penetration to make it worth it.” (148) LOL poor Brooke being stood up by her tinder date.
Gah he offered to cancel his date with Maya! Gosh darn Brooke, you’re too stubborn!
“Nate’s wearing his nice sweater- the one that almost got him laid. I hate it.” (170)
Honestly I commend Nate for telling Ethan the truth and not making up an excuse for what he walked in on. I think that’s the right thing to do. But maybe it should be tailored for a 4 year old. It’s kind of funny that Ethan thinks his dad was trying to put a baby in Brooke. (214)
Aww Ethan giving Brooke a non burn pancake 🥰
“I know we’re fighting, but I love you.” (242) wait awww that’s really nice. I like that. I like how he can acknowledge that they are having a heated discussion and not agreeing currently, but I like that he’s reassuring her that he loves her. ❤️
Bahaha Ethan accusing Brooke. “I know you and Dad are making babies. You can’t lie to me.” (251) and him saying he wants a brother lol.
Wait the fact that Ethan is getting dance classes as Christmas present and he’s excited about it is so freakin wholesome. I can’t
What is in Invis writing that I can FLY through her books? I’m ignoring responsibilities to see what happens next. I think it ended beautifully but gosh I wanted more! Gosh, I have no regrets. The story of Brooke, Nate, and Ethan is so loving and full of real emotions and laughter. I think the topic of losing loved ones was healthy and delicate. It was sweet to see that families can move on but still keep memories alive. It shines light on recovery over loss. And what came out of this recovery was beautiful. What a sweet story. I had a lovely time with this story. I think at this point I’ll read whatever Invi Wright puts on a page. (The kindle unlimited draft has a few editing errors but they are easy to look past).
This is such a a sweet book! I discovered Invi Wright last year on BookTok, and instantly adored her writing style. The characters she creates feel tangible and so real. It’s almost impossible to put the books down (yes, I’m in the ‘just one more chapter—oops it’s 3 am’ club). Nate and Ethan (Nate’s four year old son) have my heart—they both found love in Brooke and she finds confidence and her own happiness (which was long overdue). Read it. You’ll love it. If you’re a toddler parent, you’ll laugh at Ethan’s shenanigans—some hit a little too close to home (toddler boys are (lovable) menaces)!
such a cute short romance that had me giggling and kicking my feet! I always love a single dad trope and as always Invi Wright knows how to capture my attention with all of her writing ❤️
I wish we could’ve got a bit more character development and the romance didn’t happen until a lot later in the book so I was hoping for more of it but I’m glad we got a happy ending epilogue either way!
Very cute and a nice palette cleanser I’d definitely recommend this one. Gave me Heartless by Elsie Silver vibes so if you liked that you will love this too!
The Nanny was a super wholesome slow burn romance. The writing and pacing were great, would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a cute fluffy rom com. There were some very funny lines and Brooke was pretty relatable.
As a former nanny and teacher, this book was very fun to read. The characters were well fleshed out, and the interactions all seemed genuine. I look forward to reading more books by Invi Wright.
Overall I really liked this book! The pacing seemed good and I enjoyed the slow burn, however I feel like the ending was kind of rushed. I dislike hire the epilogue is so soon after the rest of the book, but still cute. Overall 4 stars.
I enjoyed this book. I am a bit more of an enemies to lovers type girlie. But a single dad/nanny romance is always good. It was a slow burn. Ethan cracked me up. He was just so cute and a troublemaker. Nate and Brooke were perfect for each other.
It scratched the itch of this trope I was wanting to read but I wish it were more. I needed something to happen, something to throw the characters for a loop and it didn’t. I also don’t think a four year old would have been as well versed as Ethan was, but he was cute to read.
I really enjoyed this read, devoured it in one afternoon. I found myself wishing that it was longer so that there was more in the middle. I also wish I could see the story from Nate’s POV, though I think I would have lost my dang mind (in the best way). Such a fun, cute, and spicy read! I have loved every Invi Wright book that I have read so far!
Very cute book by Invi! I enjoyed this, however the ending felt a little lackluster! I would have liked an addition chapter or maybe a second epilogue. Overall a great read!
