To inherit her grandfather’s estate, Roxanne Clarke has to prove the identity of her birth mother. Considering all the ancestry help online, that shouldn’t be a problem. However, the only clues Roxanne has are an old photograph and hints provided by a member of her grandfather’s household that her mother was born in Yorkshire.
Accompanied by her best friend, Avery, and Avery’s twin brother, Lucas, Roxanne travels to England. Their attempts to identify Roxanne’s mother sends them from one village to another. To add to their frustration, a fellow Texan is following them, threatening them, trying to locate the woman first.
Lucas has been in love with Roxanne since high school but botched their relationship two years ago. While helping her find her mother, can he salvage their once-blossoming romance, build a new beginning, and keep her safe when the Texan’s actions intensify?
Romance and Suspense together in one novel means it is a must read for me. Meet Me in the Yorkshire Dales by Valerie Massey Goree is Book 2 in the From England with Love and Treachery series. The books in the series are great as Standalone novels. I have not read the first book in this series yet.
The storyline for this novel takes us from Texas to Yorkshire, England. Roxanne Clarke is on a quest to find her biological mother in order to inherit her Grandfather's estate. She has only a couple of clues about her mother, a picture and that her mother was born in Yorkshire. Roxannes' best friend Avery and her twin brother Lucas go to England with Roxanne to help her find her mother. The story has a lot of suspenseful moments, including a fellow Texan following them in England, which I was intrigued by and had me at the edge of my seat. I really love the Romance side of the story also, which is that Lucas realizes that he is still in love with Roxanne. They had a relationship end 2 years ago and Lucas wants to rekindle the relationship. The storyline is filled with Suspense and a Second Chance Romance. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the themes throughout the book. GREAT BOOK!
The English setting attracted me to this story. I enjoy listening to the accents from there too, as do the linguists who accompany the main character, Roxanne, to the Dales in Britain to search for her birth mother. The suspense builds as she has to find the mother she knew nothing about and prove this woman was once married to her father in order to receive a vast inheritance from her elderly grandfather, whom she just met. The characters, with their needs and quirks, drew me in and kept me engaged. But someone else is seeking the same information and is out to stop Roxanne from obtaining the proof she needs. Danger escalates, and readers wonder whether she will survive or give up and go home. Along the way, we learn more about the Dales, both the scenery and the people (and food). This novel piqued my curiosity about the series and made me want to read the others. The books each stand alone. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
Meet me in the Yorkshire Dales is book 2 in Valerie Massey Gorey’s From England with Love…and Treachery series, and I enjoyed this story as much as the first. I loved all the descriptions sprinkled throughout that helped me visualized a part of England I haven’t visited and made me remember my trip fondly. The premise was interesting, and the author provided lots of clues and red herrings that I liked following in an attempt to solve the mystery. I can’t wait to see where the author takes us next.
Valerie Massey Goree is another new-to-me author. Even though Meet Me in the Yorkshire Dales is the second book of a series, it works well as a standalone. I enjoyed taking a trip to the Yorkshire Dales via this story.
This story is full of mystery, and a quest for Roxanne to find her biological mother. I think it's sweet how Roxanne's friends travel with her to Yorkshire in her search for her mother.
If you enjoy sweet, contemporary faith-based fiction, you might want to add this to your TBR list.
Meet Me in the Yorkshire Dales" by Valerie Massey Goree was just an ok book for me. It is a clean read and the danger in the book isn't anything too gory or graphic or scary. I did want to keep reading because I wanted to know which of the two women in the beginning of the story was the true rightful heir. I did like the ending but again it was no surprise that it would end the way it did. If you want a clean and short read with a predictable ending than I say look no farther and read this book. I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
I enjoyed the well-developed characters as well as the heartwarming interactions between Roxanne, Avery, and Caleb. The interesting suspense plot takes the reader to beautiful settings in the English countryside. The sweet second chance romance kept this reader's attention to the final page.
