Gaz, Dave, Gerald, Horse, Guy and Lomper are six guys ‘on the wander’ in the brutal streets of Sheffield after the modernisation of the steel industry. Each lad is brought down to their lowest by existential crises that constitute the worst experiences of their lives. Self-esteem flies out the window and is only found when the motley crew stop hanging out at the unemployment exchange, and start practicing a strip routine after the Chippendales visit their town. Excitement builds as word spreads through the community but it is not plain sailing to the finish line. Unfinished business in each man’s personal life turns the spectacle of public nudity into the most triumphant gesture I can recall in recent memory. I might just rent the film.
