Tragic life of the envied

I enjoyed this book very much. Barbara Payton is someone I had heard of, but not seen amy movies of hers. I plan on it soon. The second actress, whose name I had forgotten, was lied to and scandalized. Lana Turner was a superstar on screen, but not wise off screen. She had bad luck with men.

The book goes into the lives of some Hollywood stars who encountered a lot of bad things in their lives. This includes Barbara Payton (bounced checks, receiving stolen goods, etc.), Patricia Douglas (groped, raped, not helped by studio), Lana Turner (bad choice of men, daughter committed a murder), Marie Prevost (extreme dieting.)

Hollywood is known for its glamor but underneath that is a world of pain, suffering, drug use and very little if any support from the studios.

This book is wonderful! I've read so many books about Hollywood's Golden Age and yet I still found stories in this book that I knew nothing about. I'm so glad I read this book, I definitely enjoyed it!
