4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ .5 stars!! Thank you to Evie Daniels for this arc, and I was so happy with it. The characters are messy in the best way, and are funny, flawed, and totally believable. Even the side characters had their moments, which made the story feel alive.

At first glance, it’s a flirty, fun enemies-to-lovers romcom. But it also hits some deeper notes and discusses grief and family tension.

Short, sweet, and thoughtful. I definitely recommend!

I really wanted to like this book but the story was so disjointed. She was a burnt out social media influencer who was making so much money she didn't know what to do with and yet she had to live in her parents guesthouse. Her job with the weather forecast team was handed to her by a friend which was fine because that's where we interact with Dawson but somehow she works nights and he's the day forecaster? so technically they shouldn't have crossed paths enough to get to know one another.

They instantly hate each other cause she spilled a drink randomly on him one time but you, as a reader, are supposed to think the hate banter is cute.

She literally dated and has sex with a coworker while hoping Dawson pursues her but not at the same time. The entirety of their relationship is so hot and cold and confusing that we simply can't believe there's chemistry here. There are plot storylines introduced that go absolutely nowhere and a very cringe hit air balloon sex scene that had the entire book club questioning a lot.

I think this could have had great potential but would have benefitted greatly from maybe a few alpha and beta readers because I think the author tried to cram in too many ideas and it could have definitely been read through a few more times before the final draft.

Whew babyyyy! From beginning to the end Dawson had my mouth open. Dawson set his eyes on Eden and never took them off. Now that’s the romance energy we like! Dawson was giving I’m a big deal from the moment he said “ I think she’s had enough.” I love when that type of energy comes from the least likely man. Eden who came from a mother who wanted to plan her life and sister who was achieving her goals - suffered from self criticism. Eden really was THAT GIRL though - confident and knew what she didn’t want (even if she didn’t entirely know what she did want) struggled to believe she was deserving of the good things. But meeting Dawson would soon change all of that. Their chemistry was magnetic. Electric! The quick witty banter gave me all the feels. Men love a challenge and Eden was just that.

This was a great read - easy flow, I couldn’t put it down. I love when the chapters had both POVs in there (more of this please). Oh - and hello! the chapter names. Yes! I love it. Bring back chapter names please. They are teasers and darn good ones (it’s why I couldn’t put the book down).

Thank you Evie for my advance copy. Can’t wait to see if we get more of Dawson and Eden in the future.

I'll start off by saying Evie is something else. She did what?! I wish we had more details about why she did "that thing". I liked how Evie's strawberry obsession is shown in bits & pieces in the book.

This book has a lot of potential. I feel like a lot of things were skimmed over or given one sentence instead of indulging just a bit more in the moment. I felt like there could be more chemistry built between Dawson & Evie. I felt like it was instant without much substance.

This was a quick read and I did fly through it in one weekend! I can't wait to see this author's growth in the future!

Thank you to Evie Daniels for the eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.❤️

Arc review

I had a good time, it was an easy read, and I finished it in one sitting. I liked the characters and their dynamics . However, I feel like it needed more character development. At one point, it felt like one part of the story went missing and it seems like it was important to the rest of the story. The pacing of the book was great in the beginning, the slow burn was slow burning. Then around 63% of book, the relationship felt rushed. I also felt like the connections between the main and secondary characters had a lot of potential but weren’t fully developed. For example, Eden’s relationship with her mother was clearly complicated, but we never got any real follow-up or resolution there.

I loved this debut novella. I thought that it was quirky and funny at times. What I want to highlight is the water cycle. The way that this was described and explained- WOW!! You will know what I am talking about when you get there!! For a debut author, my expectations for what I was going to read was met and exceeded. Her creativity-I loved it. I am definitely looking for more from this author. I felt that this was a refreshing read. I definitely recommend!!

Thank you Evie Daniels for the opportunity to read this arc.

"Tensions peak, love collides with challenges, and hearts are swept into the chaos."

This was such a quick paced, fun romance story. The story in the book is just as cute as the cover 😍. We meet Eden, who is fun and chaotic as she tries to create her own life path outside of the influence of her very successful parents. Making her own career decisions are a form of rebellion, but these choices also leave her in a peculiar space and full of underlying self-doubt. On the other hand, we meet Mr Priesly lolol, who is more serious, successful, and put together, but doesn't exactly have it figured out in the "How to get the girl" department. When he finally starts figuring things out, he gives her a lesson on the water cycle, and let's just say that things got very wet lolol. Seeing them running into each other unexpectedly and eventually having to work together was quite entertaining.

There are also some other storylines happening with a couple of the side characters that made the book interesting and made the town feel more real. I'm hoping Eden's bestie gets her own book in the future. If you're looking for a quick, fun, read with substance, then I recommend this story. Also, there are chapter titles, which we love!!

2.5 stars. I feel kind of bad because this is the author’s debut & I’m rating it pretty low (first review below three stars) but there’s just so much happening here. Now I do want to say I didn’t know this was a novella until I saw the read time was only three hours & I do believe this author has the potential to right really good books—if not great but this book was not it.

I felt as though the author tried to do way too much in too short of a book. The best way to describe the writing was choppy. Even within scenes I was thinking “how did we get here?” Transitions between scenes were not smooth. I also have some unanswered questions about the non relationship the MCs have with people in their lives. I know Ms. Daniels is using this book as a set up for a series but if she was going to be insistent about writing a novella, she should have focused on the main couple.

I felt as though none of the relationships were well developed including the MCs with each other, but definitely the friends & family members—like the weird competition with Eden’s sister & her moms control & judgement of Eden’s life. I needed more from Dawson & his brothers too. And why did it take so long for us to learn HOW they had all that wealth?

And the FMC dating another man during the book? I don’t mind seeing it personally, but we didn’t actually see it. We were told they had already went on two dates & I was like “wtf? When did that happen”

It felt as though Ms. Daniel’s wanted to write a slow burn romance that included world building but didn’t take the time to do so.

There were some grammar issues here as well & a few of the sex scenes were cringey regarding dialogue.

DNFd @ 63%…this didn’t work for me 🥲 there were way too many inconsistencies, a lot of awkward dialogue, and some instances of feeling like narrative or dialogue used to exist but was removed abruptly and the surrounding sections weren’t changed to reflect that. Tenses change at times. If Eden and Dawson come from families with money it doesn’t make sense to me that they have multiple jobs lol leave the job market to the people who need it, bucko! Eden was childish and Dawson wasn’t as charming as he thought he was.

✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨

Evie Daniels’ debut romcom Behind the Forecast is like a breath of fresh small-town air mixed with just the right amount of spicy tension. If you love laugh-out-loud meet-cutes, sassy banter, and the kind of forced proximity that practically demands sparks to fly, then this book is for you!

Eden Cross is back in her hometown, determined to get her life together and make a name for herself at the local news station. But life has jokes, y’all. Her first night back, she bumps into the Dawson Raine—small town’s hot nerdy meteorologist with a reputation for being a grade-A jerk. Their first meeting? An epic romcom moment. Picture this: Eden accidentally spills a drink on Dawson’s head at the local club. 🤣 Mortifying for her, hilarious for us! But the universe wasn’t done with these two yet. When Eden starts her new job, guess who her co-worker is? Yup, the very same Dawson she tried to drown in whiskey the weekend before.

And just when things couldn’t get any messier, Eden picks up a side hustle helping local businesses with their social media…and one of her clients turns out to be Dawson’s father’s comic store. You can’t make this stuff up. Talk about triple-threat proximity. Their banter at the station is already sharp, but throw in a comic store, and suddenly, the nerdy bad boy isn’t looking so bad after all.

Y’all, I was not ready for the spice this book delivered. Dawson might be the town’s hot nerd, but that man has a side to him that is far from innocent. That hot air balloon scene? Whew, I forgot all about my fear of heights. I’d risk it all to be 1,000 feet up with Dawson Raine—no parachute needed. The chemistry between him and Eden is off the charts, and when they finally give in to that tension, it’s fireworks and earthquakes. Evie Daniels did not hold back, and I was so here for it.

This isn’t just a book full of banter and steamy moments—there’s heart in it, too. I loved seeing Eden’s small-town roots come back to life and watching her rediscover what home means. And Dawson? Beneath that prickly attitude is a guy who just needs someone to break through his walls. Eden is the perfect match for his sarcasm and wit, and I found myself grinning every time they went head-to-head. Their story is funny, flirty, and real—everything you want from a romcom debut.

I won’t picking up what the author was putting down. Made it to 46% and I couldn’t keep going. The excessive use of italics, the storyline that really seemed like it was going nowhere. At halfway through the book Dawson and Eden hadn’t even had the sparks of attraction. Not my cup of tea so on to the next.

This book gives me all the feels!! First of all, the way these characters meet is the epitome of the rom-com meet cute! Eden is like a hurricane a bit of a hot mess(aren’t we all?!) but wants the best for herself and wants to make something for her life. Dawson is THEE hot nerd, he thinks he has it all figured out but we all know how that works *wink wink*. When Eden and Dawson come together there’s a bit of thunder and lightning but like every storm there’s a bit of sunshine at the end. What starts off as just attraction becomes deeper and I enjoyed this debut from the lovely Evie. Pick this up immediately!!! I loved Beta reading this!

Unfortunately, Behind the Forecast is a disjointed and confusing mess. There are several unresolved plot lines, and other plot lines that contradict each other. Eden the FMC is said at the beginning to have more money than she knows what to do with, but then she’s living in her parent’s guesthouse because she couldn’t afford the rent increase on her apartment, and she’s desperately looking for a job.

Then there’s the story of her failed engagement to her former best friend, but it’s never explained why the relationship ended. He randomly shows up later in the story wanting to explain himself for breaking up with her, but she doesn’t give him the chance and we the readers never find out why he left her.

There’s another plot line where Eden and her mother have some tension in their relationship, but that’s never explained either, and the storyline is dropped. Eden gets a job at the news station and later it’s randomly mentioned she’s dating and sleeping with one of her coworkers. We see them go on one date, they have an argument, then we never see him again even though he apparently still works at the news station.

The scene that put this over the top though (and not in a good way) is when Dawson, the actual MMC and another coworker of Eden’s, takes her on a hot balloon date. The hot balloon is big enough for them to have a full dinner including a dining table and chairs, and multiple staff members. When Dawson wants to be alone with Eden, he signals to the staff and they pack up the table, chair, dishes and tablecloth and throw them over the side of the balloon…while they’re still up in the air. Then the staff members literally parachute out of the balloon 😳. WHAT?!? It’s the most nonsensical scene I’ve ever read in a romance.

I will not be reading more from this author.

"Tolerate me all you want, Ella. Just don't let go."
"Just having her here, warm, and close, was enough."
"There was a thread pulling us together, tighter and tighter, with every passing moment."
"That's how it always was with her -- a confusing mix of fire, and something else that left my heart racing."

Thanks to the author for an E-ARC! Oh snap, I finished this within 24 hours because I could not put this down!! I absolutely loved this story so much. First off a MMC who wears glasses and a gold chain? OH YEAH! Sign me up! This story is truly a small town rom com story, and lived up to all of the tropes as well without it coming across as over doing it. Dawson and Eden are the epitome of dislike / enemies to lovers, their first encounter was actually laugh out loud funny. Their banter was funny and so intense, I really liked how they matched each other's snarky / smart jabs to the other, they were both quick on their feet in terms of getting the last word in their conversations or better yet, mini arguments.

This author truly lived up the expectation of being a short and sweet romance author, this story is a slow burn between the characters but the story flowed at a fast paced if that makes sense. The story flowed well, and the introduction to side characters, and depths / layers within Dawson and Eden was written very well done. I love that although they were at odds with another, the universe and the small town had other plans for them.

Eden is truly one of my fav FMC, she is funny, chaotic, loving, ambitious, family oriented, and more. Her character is truly one I resonated with in terms of her journey starting over and finding herself as well. I love how she was always unapologetically herself and as chaotic as she was, she was always true to herself. I love that she had great friendships and support systems surrounding her as she figures things out.

Dawson is one of the funniest grumpy mmc I have read in a while! I truly loved his grumpy self and reading his pov was utterly bittersweet because I loveeee how down bad he was for Eden. His way of always miraculously being there when she needed to get out of a sticky situation or needed support he made her feel better. As much of a grumpy person he was, he was the biggest teddy bear towards her, I love how he was dominant and stable and how Eden is chaotic and goes with the flow, their clash was utterly funny and made a lot of sense. Opposites do in fact attract. I love slow burn of attraction, and yearning they had for one another, and I loved how they both slowly opened up to one another as well.

As short as this story is I do appreciate the author incorporating serious themes in terms of siblings figuring out how to support a parent mentally and emotionally, dealing with death of a parent, figuring out your path / job and what makes you happy, highs and lows of dating, and more.

& the spice? Whew well yes it was perfect. I can't wait to read more by this author, especially within this series.

Dear, to our lovely author Ms Evie Daniels 💚 you blew your debut novel out the park! Thank you so much for gifting me this read, in exchange for an honest review! Let’s dive in! Firstly let's discuss our fmc Eden, who is very go with the flow kind of person which is so different for my personality but it made her character so different from others! Eden is also a fun spirited person, goal oriented, ambitious and a person who is family oriented as well. I love how throughout this novel her character wasn't afraid to go through her journey of re-finding herself and her wants and what she needs, as well as starting over. I love how her character was so relatable and was inspiring to stay true to herself and inspired me to always stay true to myself as well. ☀️ Now on to our mmc Dawson his character dynamic was a person I fell in love with . He is funny, but still a grumpy man wrapped into one, what a beautiful combo. Dawson pov allowed reading his perspective to understand his love for Eden and how even with his dominant personality he is also a teddy bear and lover boy at heart! ❤️

Now to the part of the novel that had me falling out of my seat was the love story and relationship between Dawson and Eden! 💋 The slow burn and then their first encounter was so funny but still enemies to lovers, wait and let the universe take its course type of romance. The banter and connection of remarks and how both Eden and Dawson were able to express their emotions and feelings over time with each other, however I loved how their smart remarks and comments was such a dynamic that made their relationship work🫂. Overall, let me just Eden and Dawson connection was such opposites attraction which is what people love to talk about, however the honest love for eachother, the yearn of love and connection pureness! However, let me thank you overall for writing a novel that captured the emotions and story of themes that discusses how siblings figure and experience through supporting family and friends through mental health and dealing with emotional wars that can put a strain on the heart & mind! ❤️‍🩹Let me also thank you for Eden, Dawson, the side characters, changes and supports systems within life.

Thank you so much 📖 for sharing and allowing me to read your debut novel! Your story not only highlighted Eden and Dawson romance, however it also highlighted the highs and lows of life, the starting over and change process, mental health and friends, family support and building a new for yourself! ☺️

This is a short novel. The author does not dive deep into character building or world building but the book is still entertaining. There also seems to be a lot that happens off page or gaps in time between chapters that left me confused. I did not know the plot was where the book was headed until we were in the moment. Also even though it not deep, I do want to read the rest of the series because the characters are likeable.

I learned about this book from Instagram. The microtrope that sold me for the book was workplace romance and "enemies to romanace" but I did not see the enemies to romance. Dawson was kind from the beginning despite their "meetcute".

There is at least 3 other couples that I want to read about in the future, especially Vanessa. I love Eden, I can relate to her and understand what she is going through. Eden was on point with the banter and Dawson ran with it. The conversation between the two was sexier than the smut in the book. I'm so happy Eden is getting a happy ending. Dawson is so grown and sexy, the man had confident written all over the page and I loved him.

Last the spice was interesting, not in a over the top way but a oh, that's nice. I will say trying to recall some scenes could use an extra page because they were like a mentioned and quickly over by the end of the sentence. I'm invested in this series, these characters, and the author. I'm excited for more.

Lately, I’ve been feeling a lot like Eden has- somehow simultaneously stuck and adrift. Unlike me, Eden bit the bullet and moved back home, where she feels a modicum of relief and a hefty load of pressure. She secures a new job and is determined to resume the upward climb of life.
Soon after, she runs into Dawson. Which is unfortunate because she recently (accidentally) doused him with a drink at the club and promptly passed out in his arms in the middle of a snarky conversation with him. As it turns out Dawson is one of Eden’s new co-workers. And he’s fine as hell.
Dawson “met” Eden by chance and life seems to keep crashing the two together. He’s deeply attracted to her but he’s too distracted by being an a$$hole to everyone in his circle to delve through those thoughts and feelings. They goad each other endlessly and even when the heat overwhelms them, they can’t help but snip and snipe at one another. Dawson is a nerd + Eden has a goofy spirit = He nerds out as she rolls her eyes.
Foreplay is subjective, alright!? The banter between these two is through the roof! I laughed and kicked my feet all the way through. Please don’t think that all of this sweetness is without spice. (You ought to know me better than that by now). Dawson is many things but he’s no slump in the bedroom… or guest room… or living room.
If you’ve been thinking about diving into this book, stop thinking and get into it!

For this to be the author's debut novel, she did a good job. The plot was there, individual characters nice, back and forth banter great. But something was missing... There is a lot of unexplained character development, and on page chemistry/growth was needed to be seen.

Mr. Grumpy (Dawson) is so secretive... like it feels as though there was much more to his character than what was explained in the story. I wanted more of his backstory. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed his character. His struggles were there but glossed over. He fell first and HARD, and he didn't know how to handle it. But when he finally SHOWED UP, HE SHOWED UP AND OUT lol.

Ms. Eden started out as such as bad a** women, but as the story progressed, those insecurities showed up.. understandably, though. Her mom really made her doubt herself and be put into situations that she KNEW weren't right for her. She was guarded and still trying to find her way, on her own terms, while trying to nurse heartbreak.

There were loose ends that never saw actual closure.. it's like it was mentioned then went away. Some parts of the story could have been left out OR given a little more time to bring everything together.

overall enjoyed the read... and can't wait to see what and who the next one is about. Enjoy!!

Behind the Forecast
Evie Daniels

Eden needs a new start. Dawson needs someone to care. This is a cute grumpy and chaotic romance novel. I knew from the completion of the first chapter that this would be enjoyable. The instant the two meet they have undeniable chemistry. Their banter was so cute and hilarious.

All of Eden’s friends just accept that Dawson will be a fixture in her life. They literally had no qualms about his presence.

But, beyond their budding relationship there was substantial commentary centered around personal goals and aspirations. Although Dawson’s family is affluent, he has made a name for himself alongside the scope of his family’s influence.

Eden is at a crossroads. She had the career and the lifestyle, but lost herself. It felt like a rebirth. Instead of living to exceed the expectations of her parents, she learns to live for herself. Eden has the education and the momentum. She only has to believe in herself.

Also, I really like how the book was sectioned off like the categories of a hurricane. I don’t mind a little foreshadowing.

This had the potential to be great, but I’m going to be honest and say none of this was flushed out. I feel like we were left out of the loop for majority of it, and we missed out on so many things happening. This story felt like a bunch of one shots put together to make a story. A lot of the character relationships including the one between the MCs had the potential to be great if the author had spent just a little more time developing them. There was one point where the dialogue was conflicting. Eden the MC states that she is going on a dinner date with a side character Julian, and when he approaches Eden and Dawson in the parking lot he states he’s trying to convince her to go to dinner. I was highly confused. My next issue is that the work storyline was all over the place. For example, they say Eden works night crew, but she’s working with morning anchors? I feel as though the idea was there, but this storyline was not at all thought out. I wish the author luck with future books in the series, but I don’t think I will be continuing.

Behind the Forecast was a fun, spicy enemies-to-lovers read with great chemistry and sharp banter. I enjoyed Dawson as a character — he’s a meteorologist, though we don’t really see him in action until chapter 7. I would’ve loved to experience that part of him earlier in the story.

Eden was a standout for me. She never backed down and kept Dawson on his toes, which made their dynamic even more entertaining. Dawson had some unlikeable, even mean moments, but he was grieving the loss of his mother. As someone who has also lost a parent, I understood the rough edges.

The chapter titles were a fun touch, the chemistry was electric ⚡️, and the spice was absolutely fire 🔥. And that hot air balloon scene? Good googly moogly! 🥵 Let’s just say it might’ve made its way onto my bucket list! I also loved that Dawson fit the “fine hot nerd” category — more heroes like this, please and thank you!

A cute, heartfelt, and steamy read overall.

Behind the Forecast was such a fun read! Not only was it fun but it is fast paced and I read it in one sitting! Once I picked it up I was not able to put it down! Eden is down on her luck back at home trying to figure out who she is after a whirlwind career, failed engagement, and a night in jail. (Unjustified in my opinion) Eden and Dawson’s romance is a slow burn at first but once it starts burning it doesn’t stop! They compliment eachother in the best ways, and at a time where Eden is rebuilding herself and needing additional support Dawson is ready and willing to give it! If you are looking for a funny rom-com with a date in a hot air balloon 😉 look no further than Beyond the Forecast!

Thank you Evie Daniels for giving me the opportunity to read Beyond the Forecast as an ARC!

Received this as an ARC. This was nice, short RomCom where the Grumpy nerd meets a Sassy black cat. The MMC Dawson is hooked on the MFC Eden from the get go. The banter that goes on between these two throughout the book makes you giggle and makes you want to keep reading.
I can say that there's another couple in this book that I'm hoping that we will get to read about next but who knows what Evie Daniel's has up her sleeves.
The spice level (coming from a dark romance reader) is a 2.5. It’s present for sure but for people who may not be so keen on spice this is the right amount. Now there is a scene... where I was like "Oh ok Mr. Raine!" (had me clutching my pearls by the way he spoke because I didn't know he had it in him) so just keep that in mind for those of you that don't really do spice.

This was a DNF for me.
This has a super cute cover and I had high hopes for it. The tropes grabbed my attention (spicy black romance novella, rich MMC, he falls first & hard, found family, workplace) but it just wasn’t it for me. I really didn’t like the FMC Eden. For starters Dawson actually had a reason to be a bit sour towards her, she on the other hand did not. She apparently made so much money she didn’t know what to do with it, but had nothing really to show for it. Her attitude and demeanor was off putting, and the thing that puzzled me the most was that she was sleeping with her coworker, while hoping that Dawson would notice and peruse her. In what world would a woman actually do that lol
The plot/story just didn’t flow well to me. It was a bit all over the place and at times some things didn’t make sense.
