Miles Rozak

Miles Rozak's got a blaster cannon tucked under his bed that he built with plans from a ship that cratered in his backyard.

As you can tell, his imagination's been cooking since an early age. At 18 months old, Mom says he'd draw pictures until falling asleep.

Age 6, he teared up watching Darth Vader's sacrifice in ROTJ.

A love for sci-fi blossomed soon after.

Like in junior high, when he wrote a screenplay involving a robot that upon filming, earned a call to police from the neighbors. (For the record, that gun was a prop.)

Decades later, not much has changed.

Except he's now focused on books (to avoid run-ins with the authorities).

Looking back, Miles credits his Mom for keeping him stocked with crayons, Dad for reading the greats aloud, Wife for input, Readers for motivation, and God for the creative spark.

Miles Rozak is already a confirmed master of military Sci-Fi. Pulling off an ending to a series that covers time and space is challenging, and this is one of the best series endings I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Part III, Book 7, Artifact Empire stuns. It runs the full gamut from gasp evocative to so emotionally charged you will feel shocked and stunned. The ending will make you feel like weeping, right along with the characters. It is that well written and that emotionally charged.

Another great aspect of this final book of the Alien Ship for Sale series is that it ties up the loose ends really well. We know the answers to all the questions raised throughout the whole series. I love a series that does this. It doesn't tell you about the answers; it literally takes you through them, and you experience them through the characters. Nearly all of them are unexpected.

Above all, though, this book is fun! You never know what is going to happen next. The characters are quirky but very realistic. MC Gage (call sign Stryker) has a snarky, hilarious sense of humor, and is so up on our 21st century pop culture, movies, and music, and Star Wars, Star Trek, and just everything (including Willy Wonka) that he is constantly quipping, making jokes, easter eggs references, when the tension gets high, when he is relieved, or just in a playful mood. Tess (call sign Rubi) is up on them, especially the groaners, and sometimes contributes her own. And Redshirt (yes, call sign Redshirt) for our approximately 2-foot-tall alien Steinbreaker who is constantly playing cards (and losing) with Bond (call sign Bodega), is terrified of Maggie the German Shepherd and has a penchant for smoking cigars. The humor is well delivered - not zany, just what you would expect from real-life friends and comrades, and will make you laugh out loud - throughout the series.

The character development is like knowing these people in real life. They don't do what you want. They don't make good choices. They are human and alien and flawed, just like real people. Throughout the course of the books, and particularly in Part III Book VII, they truly evolve. They learn, they grow, they figure out what mistakes they have made, and they figure out what is truly important to them. Who they love, who they betray, what they want, and what they live for. It is a very emotionally powerful and highly charged read.

Look, no spoilers, I don't think that would be fair. But I will tell you that not everyone is coming home. Finding out who Devon is? Priceless, and I never suspected it. Finding out what happens with Gage and the women in his life? Also priceless.

So if you want a book with epic space battles, battle mech arena awesome brawls, advanced quantum AI, and time travel, all while trying to have a family life? This is a book for you.

This book is best read in order, as it is the end of an epic saga that spans centuries and galaxies. To that extent, it is a serialized adventure that should be read in order.

Miles Rozak has captured many high awards with this series and with his writing in other books and series. He is definitely one of the best in class. I have read nearly all of his published work, and I can say without doubt that this is some of the best - if not THE best - series and book he has ever written. There is a very high-quality level of world-building and descriptive artistry in Book VII, as with the entire series. Much of what Rozak describes, including quantum mechanics and AI development is based on real scientific principles. The characters are as real as the people you know in your life.

I highly recommend this book and the whole series without reservation. Go ahead and dive into this excellent series. You'll be glad you did. Just be aware, that it is going to keep you on the edge of your seat and turning pages long, long into the night.

Excellent

I gave it 5 stars to honor the work the author put into writing it. There were times I wondered how he kept track of the characters \ actions. But it became a scanner at times. And of the many sci fi books I have read...nothing disturbs me more than books that play with the concept of time travel. Oh well... If you like thinking that time travel could exist then you may really like this book. 🙂
