Just when I think I’m at the end of my rope, the universe sends a gorgeous, talented, and oh-so-caring nanny to rescue me. What’s the catch?
Every morning I wake up and remind myself I was the one who decided to kick out my horrible ex, and it’s my choice to raise my kids alone. This is less comforting than you might think when I’m knee-deep in deadlines, snotty noses, defiant preteens, and desperately in need of some help. I just never expected that help to come in the form of an absolutely delicious, seven-foot-tall, green monster…an orc who can make a killer pot roast, organize my junk drawer, and seems to understand exactly what each of the kids needs.
So what’s the catch? The catch is that with this phenomenally tempting male living under my roof (did I mention what a good kisser he is?), I’m dangerously tempted to turn this relationship into something more than employer-nanny. I want Aswan, but I really don’t want to screw up this dynamic. For the first time in a long while, I feel like my family is right where we should be.
But when my past shows up to haunt us, I realized exactly how much I need Aswan. In every way.
This feel-good, low-angst, high-heat cozy romance features the following Fated Mates, cinnamon roll hero, a determined heroine who is learning she doesn't always have to be strong, hurt/comfort, adorable small-town (of course), lots of humor, lots of heat!
Veronika Kane is the monster-loving alter-ego of USA Today Bestselling Author Caroline Lee. One of Caroline's favorite genres to read is SciFi Romance, which led her to monster romance. When she discovered it was possible to set big, buff, delicious monsters in contemporary cozy small towns, she was sold. And that's how she ended up with a new pen name and a new series.
Welcome to the town of Eastshore Isle, the only beach town on the east coast experiencing negative population growth. You know who's going to help save the town? That's right; super-sexy, laugh-out-loud orcs.
My Orc Nanny Eastshore Isle series #8. Paranormal Orc small town romance. Alternating first person POV. Can be read as a stand-alone. Hannah Woods is raising her three young children on her own after divorcing her worthless husband. Working a full time job on top of caring for the family is proving to be too much at times. On the morning when she has an important presentation to give, her toddler is listless and daughter Tova asks where the brownies are for the last day of class party. Needless to say, Hannah hadn’t been aware of the need for brownies. Fortunately for Hannah, Aswan knocks on her door at the impending doom of a morning and tells her that he is ready and willing to take on the nanny job she posted. Hannah isn’t prepared for an Orc nanny but he handles the youngest with care and concern, already knows her daughter, and agrees to pick up the brownies, drop off the two at school and sit outside her office during the presentation so Hannah can assess his skills. Of course Aswan handles the children and the house and even Hannah with ease and dexterity. He will do whatever he can to make Hannah comfortable and hopefully stop crying at night. Being a live-in nanny is just what they both need. And when the children are sleeping , maybe a little grownup play is needed.
The orcs of Eastshore Isle are simply swoon worthy. They cook, they clean, they build, they care, they fall in love and will do anything for their mates. Lots of orgasms guaranteed. This story is filled with love, precocious children, a tired mother, an orc willing to serve, and a small town filled with orc and human couples that are living their best lives. An afternoon escape that will leave you a little breathless and happy.
I absolutely loved watching Hannah open up and accept help after not having it for so long. As a single mom to 3 kids, a survivor of a messy divorce, and the daughter of a cancer patient, Hannah definitely felt the weigh of the world on her shoulders at all times. I loved how Aswan was able to come in and help lessen her load without controlling her or her children, and I loved that she let him. I also loved how Aswan saw instantly how much responsibility Ben (her 10-year-old) had taken upon himself to be the “Man of the House”. I loved how he took the burden off Ben multiple times and also helped to reteach him what “real men” do compared to what his father had taught him. He showed him that men can be caretakers and homemakers and that they don’t always have to stick to some rigid and outdated ideal of a "true man". He also sought every opportunity to include Ben in what he was doing, like making homemade pizzas, and I loved seeing this bond. Of course, Aswan was also great with Tova and Joshua, but they were a lot easier to win over haha
I loved learning of Aswan’s background, given he was one of the ones who didn’t settle on Eastshore Isle originally. He had a previous life amongst humans in Colorado, much like his brothers Simbel and Memnon did in New York, which I’m loving hearing about from the “newer” orcs. I’m very interested in his twin brother, Abydos, who is definitely going to be a grumpy goose with a lot of anger issues; can’t wait to meet his ray of sunshine especially since he doesn't seem 100% on board with orc/human pairings 😊
It would not be an Eastshore Isle book without a lot of spice and heat. I definitely felt like this one kicked it up a notch in both quantity and description of the spicy times, which was kinda a high bar to reach in the first place, but Kane succeeded! Give me a sweet and competent guy in the streets, a dom in the sheets ANY. DAY. OF. THE. WEEK! Take care of me in every way you can, daddy 😉
It also wouldn’t be an Eastshore Isle book if I wasn’t learning something new about the orc species in this world. I loved seeing how even after Aswan had “claimed” Hannah, his Kteer was still unsatisfied because her kids didn’t know they were together. That is literally the sweetest primal thing I’ve ever heard and I love it.
Finally, I loved how Sakkara was barely in the story, but he was instrumental in introducing Aswan and Hannah, further proving just how important he is to his community of orcs.
Thank you to Veronika Kane for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.
Highly successful but currently frazzled single mom of three Hannah realizes her toddler has taken ill just before a super important meeting her boss will not allow her to miss when she opens her door to a seven foot tall hunk of green maleness who just happens to be Mary Poppins in orc form.
When Aswan agrees to answer the call to help out the beautiful human with domestic duties, he never expected to find his Mate. He immediately improves the lives of all four of them, as well as winning over the approval of Hannah’s parents.
An ugly divorce, however, has left Hannah a bit leery of putting her kids at risk of hurt again, but Aswan is nothing if not patient and very, very diligent.
When a past threat returns to target Hannah’s children, Aswan will stop at nothing to protect them all.
I loved revisiting the denizens of Eastshore Isle. Veronika Kane has created a funny, very s3xy series of non humans finding their human Mates and this book doesn’t disappoint. From the moment I saw the adorable cover I knew I was in for a treat. Aswan is as alpha as can be but with the gooiest center ever, and Hannah is strong and more than capable of handing her own: together with the kids they’re a delight.
I was fortunate to have received an advance reader copy from the author, and I’m pleased to share my honest review.
Returning to Eastshore Isle once again (one of my favorite places!), Aswan, one of the newer orcs to the island, becomes nanny to help out Hannah with her household and three kids. Aswan is fully capable of managing things at home so Hannah can focus on her career, which she’s put on the back burner for her family as a single parent. It was satisfying to read about a male who takes control in this way, probably because Aswan’s behavior reminded me of my husband, to be honest. I loved how this story had the kid component to it, where Aswan had to earn their trust and love as well. It’s hard to write kids in romance and not have them be annoying, and Kane did it well. There’s a slow burn element to Aswan and Hannah’s romance, but once they have the opportunity to act on their desires, the book gets scorching! I liked how Hannah regained confidence in herself (with some help from Aswan’s praise) and how that translated to her family dynamics. I also liked, as always, the bits of orc history and culture that were introduced. And I definitely want some of Aswan’s recipes!
I received an early version and voluntarily leave this review.
I love this series. Kane has a way of developing these stories and relationships between our orc MMCs and human FMCs. No matter how many times I read these, I always enjoy the realization on both sides of the relationship towards the realization and understanding of their mate bond. Even though we are this far through the series and several mate bonds in, both characters take their time to really understand what is going on, but also do not see the signs of the bond after hearing about these relationships from their friends.
This story had a good change with our FMC being a single mom to 3 kids. While this is not our first single mom story, this one holds a different feel. As Hannah's history comes with more baggage, lack of self-identity, and self-worth. Hannah immerses her life around her children since their father is a dead beat and not in the picture. Aswan, the new nanny, gets to not only build relationships with Hannah, but with her 3 children, and give Hannah the partner in life but in raising her children.
I love this small town paranormal series! The characters are fun. There are times this book made me laugh out loud. When I am a rough day, this series is a go to for an instant pick me up.
You don’t need to read the books in order. This series is on automatic preorder. I can’t wait for the next book!
Hannah woods hires Aswan to be her children's live-in nanny when things get to be too much as a divorcee, full time bank employee with 3 kids and a sick mother she doesn't want to burden. At least she is down one man-child that is her ex husband (who is in jail).
Aswan turns out to be the perfect fit, handling the children delicate precision that they need. He quickly becomes a pillar of the family, projecting a calm, dependable, healthy male role model Hannah didn't fully realize her children desperately needed. Not only that, but he's an experienced cook that can make some of the best brownie's (needed for a school party), as well as healthy, delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners. He's the quiet, calm presence that everyone in the family, including Hannah needs. And he is more than willing to do and be whatever Hannah needs.
I do love how Veronika Kane makes the majority of her orcs in the Eastshore Isle shining examples of healthy, helpful men who just want to make their partner's life easier, even at the cost of their own happiness. Not one of them pressures their known, or unknown, mate to be their partners. They make sure every choice is a choice freely made. And obviously any woman who has been in any sort of uneven relationship would recognize what these guys are offering and jump at the chance to be with them for life. It certainly doesn't hurt that every one of them is committed to making every spicy encounter with them the most fulfilling experience possible.
In this book, in particular, I like that the conflict is from an outside source and Hannah and Aswan come together in order to deal with the situation rather then the very cliché romance genre thing of a sudden miscommunication threatening the whole relationship. Good communication between couples is a very sexy thing to read.
Hannah, the female human lead, is struggling with the challenge of a demanding full time job, being the sole parent for three children, and assisting her aging parents. She’s advertised for a nanny but hasn’t found one and now her youngest is sick the day of an essential business meeting.
Aswan, the male orc lead, has been looking for something fulfilling to do since he moved to Eastshore Isle. When a friend asked him to help Hannah, he was happy to offer. When he arrives on this terrible day, he’s quick to step in and provide the support she needs. Initially uncertain, Hannah is more than pleased with Aswan’s capabilities and offers him a live in position. Now they both need to deal with their mutual attraction because Hannah is determined that nothing will upset her children…
This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and steamy, small town, orc/human, nanny/single parent, contemporary fantasy romance. I enjoyed Aswan’s apparent ease at settling into the family and providing the supporting backbone they needed. I enjoyed his interactions with all three of Hannah’s children, acknowledging their different ages, concerns and needs. I enjoyed Hannah’s resilience and the way she’d been surviving before Aswan. I enjoyed seeing her become comfortable accepting assistance. I enjoyed the relationship development and the steamy intimate scenes. I enjoyed the careful balancing of adult wants and children’s needs. I enjoyed the supportive secondary characters, including Hannah’s parents.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
This was a sweet romance. There wasn’t enough to hold my interest though, and it took me longer than it should have to finish because I kept putting it down.
Hannah was sort of bland. I never got a solid grasp on why she stayed with her ex, or got back together with him. At the point she had her third kid she already knew: he was a bad father, didn’t do any chores, didn’t have a job, was addicted to drugs, had been to prison, was bad in bed and never gave her an orgasm. The background never mentions any good times. When authors go out of their way to make the ex so bad, it makes it hard to have respect for the FMC. There was literally nothing good about this guy she had three kids with?
Aswan is also bland. He’s the good guy to the ex’s bad guy. He gives her five orgasms before he comes, every time they have sex. He’s a professional chef and an expert parent. He has one good line in the whole book, and it’s when the deadbeat ex asks who he is and he roars “I’m the MF’ing nanny!”
I thought the kids were interesting. They brought a little color to the story.
As always, another absolutely fabulous East Shore Isle book from Veronika Kane!
The orcs in this beachside town are always hot, always swoon worthy… but a sexy big green orc who immediately steps into a house of single-mom-three-kids-chaos and pulls up his bootstraps to help in every way a mom needs? Yeah. Clearly, smut because it’s just too good to be true…. But it makes for one great read!
Yes there’s a note in the back (authors section) about how some readers don’t like books with kids because it limits sexy time, but you know what? That makes it real. And as much as I like morally grey serial unalivers or dragon shifters… someone planning meals and doing grocery shopping happily just to help me out GETS ME GOING!
Oh I have been waiting for Aswan’s story and it soo did not disappoint! Aswan is such a sweet orc who is just a nurturer. And we really get to see how great he is with kids in this one! His love for them is heart warming. Hannah is such a relatable character. Single mom who is just trying to make it through some days and doing her absolute best. I loved her. She did have reservations about starting up anything with Aswan as she has been hurt by her ex and her life experiences. I loved seeing her take those risks and willing to try for something more with him. This book made me laugh and it made me cry. Such an amazing story and so worth the slight wait for it! Definitely and absolutely recommend!
I did receive an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
Ugh! I just love single parent x nanny romances. And he's the big hunky nanny??? In love.
I am also obsessed with fated mates that dont piece it together right away. Aswan immediately feels compelled to care for Hannah and her kids. He wants to be the person they rely on, the one to protect them, make them happy. But he still doesn't put it together until someone calls her his Mate.
I am also a sucker for that moment in single parent romances when the kid(s) accept the new step parent, and when little Joshy called Aswan daddy, I fully burst into tears.
Orcs are so much fun aren’t they? Suspending belief and all that. Let’s you, the reader, off the hook. It means not to be taken too seriously. It’s going to be lighthearted and with very low angst, if any at all. It’s going to be a big, green, monster instead of tall, dark and handsome. Isn’t that what we’ve come to look forward to in Veronika Kane’s Orc world. We can let go of the fast paced, stressful, work-a-world we live in and let it all go to the wonder of imagination. So when you can’t take off for a vacation, you can relax and enjoy stepping into the Orc world for a respite. All thanks to Veronika Kane.
This is another cute orc romcom in the Eastshore Isle series. The books can be read as standalones, with only minor spoilers.
Human FMC Hannah is a single mom of three and a business professional in over her head, until hunky orc MMC Aswan shows up at her door in response to a nanny ad.
This is a relatively low-stakes, high-heat, super-sweet found family romance. A quick and easy read.
I always enjoy this series, it’s sweet and fun. I can’t wait for Tarkhan’s book My Orc Contract Husband, which was teased at the end of this one and is expected to be published in August 2025.
Spice: 4/5 Plot:4/5 Writing: 4.5/5 My Enjoyment: 4.5/5
Sweet, heartwarming, and so much fun! Aswan was the SWEETEST! More than muscle—he’s patient, kind, and incredibly endearing, especially when interacting with the FMCs child! The FMC is strong, relatable, and doing her best in a tough situation. It’s a story about love, healing, and family—wrapped in a warm blanket of orc-sized comfort.
I've loved all the Eastshore Isle stories, can't wait to read the next in the series (already marked my calendar!) If you’re looking for a monster romance with heart, humor, and heat that is a little bit cozy the this series is a must-read!
I Loved This One! Such an easy story to read, enjoy, laugh and cry with. It has all the great family values which I love and 3 cute, cuddly and sometimes not so cuddly kitlings (otherwise known as children) in it as well as a delicious Orc and an overwhelmed single mother. There are some very touching scenes in this story but it is well balanced with some great humour too. I read an early copy of this book and am happy to leave my voluntary review.
Veronika has done it again with another heartwarming Eastshore Isle book. A single Mom is struggling with work and day to day chaos 3 young children can bring. In walks a handsome Orc to bring order and comfort to the home as their nanny.
It is very entertaining and I read it in 1 day. If it wasn't for the Orc, it could be a Hallmark movie. There is romance, humor, and suspense. The characters are all likeable.
I received this book as an ARC and give my review honestly.
This story will give you that good feeling. Hannah desperately needs a nanny. With a full-time job, three children and one is a teenager, Hannah is feeling overwhelmed and desperate then in comes Aswan, an Orc nanny. Aswan is a miracle with all three children and Hannah is now able to relax. It's not long before Aswan realizes Hannah is his mate and Hannah has a very strong attraction to Aswan. This story ends happily for all!
This story tells of a young woman and her children and that of an orc that became their nanny,so that she could return to work knowing that her children were safe with him the children became his everything and the kids found someone that thy came to trust and their mother to find love and happiness with.I would like to say thank you for all your hard work and may fortune smile 😃on you always 😁from a bookworm that loves to read
I absolutely adored this story. A sweet cozy romance about family and Healing and sunshine coming into their lives. Not everyone can have a beautiful HEA like this one... but it sure is nice to imagine that it's possible. Thank you for this. I absolutely loved it. (Oh, and the spice was fantabulous)
This was a quick cute lighthearted read. Aswan, like all the other male orc’s on Eastshore is amazing. He was so good to Hannah and her kids. I like these books because they are low angst, no third act breakups, and good spicy scenes.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked that the single mom could afford to hire a nanny. Not through family money but hard work done well. I also loved the way the nanny is man enough to do the job and still be masculine and a good role model. This book tugged at my heart strings, made me laugh, and made me gasp in suspense.
This was such a sweet read. Single mum having to make do after kicking out her dead beat ex. And an orc shows up to help take care of the children. It was a beautiful story, the pace was excellent. Little bit of angst given the situation it was warranted and needed and rounded off the story wonderfully.
Can really appreciate these stories as I go further and further into the series. In this one Aswan is lost and looking for where he belongs. Hannah is juts trying to keep things together. I loved that Sakarra brought them together! It was the same for Memnon and Maya also. Really good twist to the stories.
I've enjoyed the Eastshore Isle series. My pleasure is to enjoy falling in love, building a kind and loving romantic story. The children were a nice tip to the series. The children seemed to enjoy getting to know and love the Nanny. Ms. Kane has a talent for happy endings. Now on to the next happily ever after.
I felt a bit sad when I reached the end of the book because I just wanted more of our main characters! My heart completely melted when Aswan embraced not only his mate but also her children and parents. He’s just so sweet and perfect the way he is!
This series is just incredible! This is an excellent addition! I loved reading this I've so much! It was so sweet to see how patient the mmc was with the fmc and how great he was with the kids! Then seeing her open up to him, sigh, it was the best!
I enjoyed reading this book, the storyline is entertaining and the interaction between the characters is wonderful. I can't wait to read more from this author. I received this book as a Free ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
This book has me wanting to call the nanny service to get my own! Good heavens! Our orc is the perfect male! The story is fun, adorable and incredibly hot! I mean flip me over like a done pancake hot! So perfect! I loved it!
I loved everything about this book! Both MC‘s were relatable and sweet, the kids were hilarious and just real enough, and Aswan’s love and devotion to Hannah and the kids was epic. I want to marry someone just like him!
