*Spoilers for books 1 and 2 ahead - I highly recommend you go back and read Killer of Mine and Secrets of Mine before reading any further.*
She used to work for the FBI… Now she’s the one hiding from them…
Freya should finally be free. Safe. But her life is rarely that simple and the Cross-Cut Killer case is far more complicated than anyone realized. Now, it’s more personal than ever and the killer is determined to make Freya's existence a living hell. She did what he wanted, she ran from the men she loved and now it's slowly killing her.
Hiding out with her pseudo-sister Carmen may be a temporary solution but it won't heal the trauma she's been through and River, Jude, Eli and Oz aren't about to let her suffer on her own.
They're coming for her, whether she wants them to or not, and Freya is left with no choice. She can't avoid the guys forever, not if she wants to catch the killer, because it turns out he's not done hunting and this time a little girl's life hangs in the balance.Darkness of Mine is a full length, mature, New Adult romance with morally grey characters, forced proximity, darker moments and on the page spice. It is a why choose romance, meaning the main character has more than one love interest. This is the third and final book in the Of Mine trilogy. Please read the trigger warnings.
I am OBSESSED with this series, but this final book was missing so much of what I loved about the other books. We have a different threat in each book, and this one felt the most lackluster and dangerous to me, especially since he wasn't actively even really going against our main characters? I just felt like there wasn't a ton of urgency against the threat, so we really just followed the heroine kind of hanging out and handling her own trauma she's uncovered. And there was A LOT of spice that didn't help further the connections or the plot for me, and those two things are what I need to really enjoy the story. As the conclusion to the story, I just wanted the highest stakes in the series and it fell a bit flat for me.
Thank you Alexis Grace and Grey’s Promotions for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Unfortunately, this finale didn’t land for me. The first book had a great balance of danger, suspense, and emotional intensity, but this one tipped too far into spice-heavy drama. The FBI angle—one of the strongest parts of the series start—felt almost laughable here. The characters made rash, unrealistic choices, and every serious moment seemed to get undercut by sex. It turned intimacy into a replacement for character growth, which kept me from connecting with the story. The villain didn’t deliver the psychological impact I was hoping for, and while there were bursts of tension, the pacing dragged until the very end. By then, the resolution felt anticlimactic. That said, I think readers who love heavy spice and protective MMCs might still enjoy this. But if you were invested in the thriller aspects and wanted real emotional payoff, you’ll likely be let down.
I liked it ! There were a few things I didn’t see coming and I really liked it ! There was not much I didn’t like but nothing I LOVED either, hence this rating. but it was an entertaining read !
The first book, 𝐊𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐞, didn’t fully win me over — the mystery hooked me, but the romance fell a bit flat. The second book, 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐞, was the best in the series for me, balancing investigations, character development, and a much stronger love story. The third book, 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐞, I liked it a little bit less than the second, because we had less FBI and more romance, and it’s totally okay (because we read why choose for the spicy scenes and romance lol😁). Still, it delves deeper into Freya’s trauma and her journey toward trust and love. And the relationships with the guys became deeper and more meaningful, so I really enjoyed the love plot.
When I found out I was getting this arc, I screamed. Thank you to Grey’s promotions and Alexis for this honor.
The pain, the raw emotions, the happiness that radiated of these pages, changed me forever. Freya, Jude, Eli, Oz and River have a permanent spot in my heart. With some books I notice every page I turn, how much time I spend reading them, but with this book, all that disappeared. There’s just me, and the story, I flew through the pages and everything else just vanished. I did want to put my book (read: phone) in the freezer at some point, but all’s well that ends well.
This series is now one of my favorite series of all time 🖤
★4/5! MHMMM this trilogy was sooo fucking good! got me out of my two month reading slump \(^ᵕ^ )/ mourning over the fact River and Jude aren’t real, i need them in my life pronto (ノ*´Д`)ノ they’re both so perfect ughh.

*Reverse Harem *Contemporary *Multi-1st-PoV *Abused FMC *Troubled MMCs *FBI agents *Family trauma *Slow Burn *Established Harem (4) *Book 3 / 3 Emotional ending! What a rollercoaster these books have been 😅 I have really enjoyed the premise of this trilogy with our FMC being the daughter of a serial killer with her fighting the way she was raised and training to be a good person! Honestly Freya is one of the strongest FMCs I have ever come across 🥰 she’s selfless beyond belief and will do anything to keep her loved ones safe! You see her learn more of her past in this one (please check your TWs!) especially with the new murderous relation Freya has uncovered and his unnatural obsession with her 😖 it twists her and you see her go through that journey to find herself again 😫 on top of that her men each have to deal with the fallout from her sacrifice and it’s not pretty! There’s a lot of tension and angst there to work through for River and Jude, whereas Oz is grateful and Eli has a lightness that must just be the only thing keeping them grounded 😱 although an emotional one there are spicy scenes between them, and they definitely pick up in spice in this one! In terms of pacing i felt the ending seemed to go very quickly compared to the majority of the book but other than that all the loose ends were tied up well with a heartfelt HEA to this great dark RH trilogy 😌
*** I was fortunate enough to be an ARC reader for this release. ***
I have been looking forward to the last installment in this series, and I think Alexis Grace did a great job in how it was ended.
This book was packed with emotion and suspense, and I think AG did a great job guiding us through a roller coaster, while allowing us to experience every emotion alongside the characters.
The plot was good, and the development of the story and characters felt natural and effortless. Alexis Grace did a great job in writing a satisfying and realistic ending, while typing up all the lose ends in a believable way.
What an ending to a perfect series! We left off on a major cliffhanger from Secrets of Mine and Darkness of Mine pretty much picks up right where we left off. Where did Freya go? What is Zach going to do next? Will she ever reunite with the guys?
I’m not going to spoil it for you, but it’s a romance so there is a HEA.
I loved diving into some of the guys past traumas to help explore what made them them, and how they work through healing. We also saw some more Carmon and I have a sneaky suspicion she’s getting her own story with Jack and Reaper.
I laughed. I raged. I loved. I cried.
This is a Roman Empire series. Please, I beg, read this and thank me later.
OMG!!! What a bittersweet ending to an amazing trilogy. It has EVERYTHING. Mystery element, new found family, a badass FMC trying to overcome her trauma, and SPICEY 😂❤️ I would’ve finished it in a day if my adult life wasn’t getting in the way. Book was the perfect length and I’m truly sad it’s over.
This was an incredible conclusion to this series! I’ve been anticipating this since the diabolical cliffhanger we got at the end of book 2, and it did not disappoint!
If you’re a fan of Criminal Minds and why choose romance this is the perfect series for you! This book was spicier than the first 2 books but still maintained that good plot to spice ratio. This whole series was action packed from the first book to the last, and made them all so easily binge-able.
This conclusion was emotional, and the character development throughout the entire series was phenomenal. Freya’s growth especially, every character brought their own trauma to the table and grew through it. I did see we’re getting a spin off, and I have an idea of who it may be about, and I’m so excited for it!
Thank you so much to Alexis Grace and Grey’s promotion for allowing me to read this pre-release in exchange for my honest review.
Actually obsessed with this series - a stay awake till 2am reading even though you have work the next day because you just can’t put it down sort of vibe.
I reckon I had high expectations. And they were not met. Freya was a mess, River was unbelievably controlling (to the point that I firmly believe they’d break up in less than a year). The other guys were meh. The plot with the brother and the cult didn’t really develop. And I knew something would happen to Allie, I just knew.
🎶“And the last thing you wanted. Is the first thing I do. I tell you my problems. You tell me the truth”🎶
Freya (h) should finally be safe - but safety is an illusion, and the Cross-Cut Killer isn’t finished with her yet. Forced into hiding and torn from the men she loves, she’s unraveling under the weight of trauma and secrets. But River, Jude, Eli, and Oz (H) refuse to stay away—especially when a little girl’s life is now at stake. The killer is still hunting, and Freya is done running. To stop him, she’ll have to face the darkness head-on… even if it destroys her.

Thank you to Valentine PR for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
[River]
River definitely went to some extremes in this one to keep her safe. Some of the things he did might come off as over-the-top or even controlling, but you can tell it all came from a place of love and concern. One of his choices, while intense, actually ended up being super helpful in the end. He didn’t really see the issue at first, but once the others called him out, he started to get it. Overall, his heart was in the right place, even if his approach was a little much.
[Jude]
Jude had a major shift from the first book to now. He went from being the sweet, sunshiney one to a lot more guarded and moody. But honestly, it all came down to feeling hurt and abandoned when she left. He didn’t fully understand why at the time, and it definitely changed how he treated her. Things didn’t really start to turn around until they had a really emotional moment that brought everything to the surface. After that, he started to open up more, admitted some of his mistakes, and finally began to see things from her side. It was a big moment for his growth.
[Eli]
Eli had some of the best character growth in this book. He went through a major turning point that completely changed his vibe - and honestly, it was so refreshing to see. After carrying a lot of heavy stuff from his past, something finally clicked for him, and it was like a weight had been lifted. From that moment on, he had this playful, carefree energy that totally lit up every scene he was in. He went from intense to golden retriever puppy energy, and it was everything. Funny, chaotic, and just a joy to read—he really became the heart of the group in a way I didn’t expect.
[Oz]
Oz had a really honest and kind of unexpected moment in this book. He straight-up said he didn’t blame her for leaving (book 2), because she did it to protect someone he loved and that really said a lot about him. Even though he’s usually more reserved, it showed how deeply he still cared. He was totally on board with some of the more protective (borderline intense) decisions being made, but it wasn’t about control—it was about love and worry. You could tell how much he felt for her in the way he always wanted to make sure she was safe. It was actually really sweet in a rough-around-the-edges kind of way.
— ⋆。゚☁︎。⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。⋆ OVERALL⋆。゚☁︎。⋆。 ゚☾ ゚。⋆—
Overall, I really enjoyed this book because of how protective the guys were. Their loyalty stood out -they cared deeply for her and never gave up, no matter how many times she tried to push them away. They just wanted to keep her safe, even if it meant taking extreme measures. That kind of devotion really hit me, and it was clear they were in it for the long haul. That said, the story itself felt a little all over the place. The emotional stakes were high in the previous book, but this one lost some of that momentum. The plot kept shifting directions, and I found myself less invested in the new conflicts. It just didn’t have the same impact, and by the end, I wasn’t sure what the main focus was supposed to be.
Warning: This review may contain spoilers for the first two novels in the Of Mine Trilogy
Darkness of Mine continues the saga of Freya (identical twin and tortured / tormented daughter of the recently vanquished Cross-Cut Serial Killer) and her reverse harem FBI team (the steely and staid River, gentle-hearted hacker Oz, brilliant and introspective genius Jude, and brash, impulsive, wise-cracking, cowboy, Eli) as they face off against their final enemy: Freya's older half-brother and son of a cult leader, Zach, a pedophile, who briefly masqueraded as a cop, is fixated on Freya, and has taken to kidnapping young girls who look just like Freya to taunt her.
When the novel begins, Freya has left her men in favor of her friend Carmen's safe house, in hopes that doing so will protect them from Zach's wrath. This causes the FBI team to go to controversially extreme measures to get her back into their waiting arms, and keep her there, even potentially against her will.
Will Freya and her men be able to heal their individual wounds, as well as those newly formed by her recent departure and forced return? Will the FBI Team be able to track down Zach and rescue his young captive before he strikes again?
On a positive end, having not read Book 2 in this series in quite some time, I appreciated how surprisingly well this novel functioned as a standalone. With the Big Bad from the first two books off the board, Darkness of Mine essentially functions as its own procedural novel, with helpful expositional dumps along the way to reorient readers, and keep them from getting too "lost in the sauce" narratively speaking.
I also appreciated Darkness of Mine as a character study. Free from the heavy plot / mystery building of the first two novels, Book 3 is able to really settle in and delve into the hearts, idiosyncrasies and hangups of our five main characters. Freya, River, Eli, Jude and Oz are all a bit broken and traumatized by their pasts when the novel begins. Throughout Darkness of Mine we get to see each character grapple with their past traumas and work toward healing.
In addition to giving each character their own journey and arc, Grace also takes time to explore Freya's distinct relationships with each of the men, healing those as well, following the damage her departure caused to them. Yes, a lot of that is done through some fairly creative sex scenes. But I did appreciate how Grace managed to create separate emotional and intellectual connections between these characters too. As a result, each of the five pair-relationships felt fully realized by the end of the series.
I found the final climactic battle scene and its heartbreaking aftermath to be genuinely effective too. This portion of the novel kept my interest, and ultimately provided me with solid closure to this series.
I eventually settled on the 3.5 star rating, because, while I appreciated these aforementioned aspects of the tale, I didn't entirely feel this novel was necessary to the series as a whole. The Zach character felt a bit like an afterthought following the intrigue, complexity and terror presented by Freya's father and twin sister. With the team very slowly tracking down one man, who kidnapped one girl, the stakes definitely felt much lower in this story than in the prior two. This resulted in a lot of wheel spinning and surprisingly little plot.
I feel as though Grace may have killed off Freya's father too fast. Had his arc been extended to the third book, I feel as though the same character beats and ultimate climax could have still been utilized here, with the plot, tension, horror, and high stakes more evenly spread out across the three novels.
That said, I'd be willing to give another Grace series a try, particularly, if she opts to further explore the Carmen, Jack, and Reaper characters, who were set up so nicely here as a future throuple!
Going in, I already knew it was going to be fantastic (it’s Alexis, how could it not be?), but this? I wasn’t ready. The suspense, the pacing, the emotional punches, everything hit just right. There wasn’t a single moment that dragged. Instead, it kept me flipping pages like my life depended on it.
And let me tell you, I felt a lot while reading this book. I laughed, I got all hot and bothered (👀🔥), and yes… I cried. More than once. It takes a special kind of author to pull all that out of me in one story.
Let’s talk characters in DOM: • River… oh, I wanted to strangle you at first (seriously), but you redeemed yourself and then some. • Eli, baby, you’ve changed, and I’m SO here for it. • Jude… we got you. We love you. Protect Jude at all costs. • Oz, sweet Oz. That heart of gold… and that mouth of his 👀🔥. • And Freya. Oh, Freya Darling (/ Kitten / Mo Leannan / Angel), you’re a straight-up badass, especially by the end. I want to be you (okay, maybe not everything you went through, but still).
This finale was everything I wanted and more. Alexis truly delivered a powerful, unforgettable end to an incredible trilogy. I’m honestly obsessed.
I will forever recommend these books to everyone. Try and stop me.
[ENG] Saying goodbye to these people was like being stabbed in the heart. What a trilogy, and how beautiful it was to see how River, Oz, Jude, Eli, & Freya were destined to be together. How they love, care for, and protect each other. Thanks so much for the ARC, they'll always be my protégés
"I may collar you, but you have my heart on a leash."
Okay. So. I have not been breathing for majority of the last 20% of this book. I have been sobbing like a baby though.
This book was the perfect end to this rollercoaster of a trilogy. So much heartbreak, love, devastation and insanity all wrapped up nicely with a bow of twists and turns.
I was once again not prepared for where this book took me but I enjoyed every second of it. The story evolved insanely with some great plottwists and surprises and I wish I could reread the series right away.
Freya, Allie, Jude, Oz, Eli, River and even Carmen will hold a special place in my heart ✨🤍
3.5 ⭐️ Read if you like: dark romance, MFMMM, somnophilia, knife play, captive fmc, cat and mouse chase, 🍆 warming, impact play Check TW
The guys are an absolute WRECK with Freya being gone and it just shows how down bad they were for her. “Don’t worry darling, you will” oh man this line gave me SHIVERS 🙂↕️
Freya really pissed me off in this book. In Killer of Mine she was a super strong fmc and I feel like as the series continues on she was becoming less of a badass. Common sense? GONE. Survival instincts? YEAH NAH. Her love declaration for the last guy (I don’t want to spoil who it is) felt so forced I feel like she could’ve done so much better. How was he last to get one? 😭💔
I was super close to DNF-ing but because it was an ARC, I pushed through. I’m glad I did. This book shows that all the characters have flaws and how important it is to heal from trauma. Also a book with short chapters is seriously under appreciated. This book was fast paced and I never felt bored. The date night scene at the table was STEAMY I loved it omg 🥵🔥 And the little plot twist?? Oh my god was my heart was racing like crazy in this book.
I really recommend the series. It’s thrilling, gripping, bloody, dark, and spicy. Romance did take a little step back and the guys did kind of blur together in this book, but overall it was a satisfying (but sad) ending to the series.
Thank you so much Alexis Grace and Greys Promotions for this ARC
This was a satisfying end book. I liked how this wrapped up and it did make me cry because a certain part was just so sad. The reason why it’s not a full five stars is because I thought there was too much focus on River and not on some of the other love interests. Like I think Jude deserved more page time. Also I just did not like how River was acting. There’s so incredibly dark themes throughout so just read the trigger warnings.
I enjoyed this book but I wanted more. The first book was so addictive! It was suspenseful and I wanted that same feeling and just didn’t get that here but I still enjoyed it
“And the last thing you wanted is the first thing I do. I tell you my problems. You tell me the truth.”
Darkness of Mine is the explosive finale to the Of Mine trilogy, and wow… it delivers everything. From heart-pounding suspense to gut-wrenching emotion, Freya’s story is raw, messy, and absolutely unputdownable.
This book blends danger, desire, and devastating choices in a way that keeps you hooked from the very first page. The tension never lets up—whether it’s the serial killer stalking in the shadows, the forced proximity raising the heat, or the tangled web of love and loyalty between Freya and her men.
If you love: 🖤 Why Choose 🖤 Serial killer thrillers 🖤 Found family feels 🖤 Touch her and die energy 🖤 Forced proximity & enemies-to-lovers tension 🖤 Dark romance with a tragic past at its core
Thank you to the author for gifting me this book. I am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Of Mine trilogy wraps up with a finale that’s intense, messy, and full of raw emotion. Freya has been through hell — the daughter of a serial killer, forced into hiding, and carrying the crushing weight of sacrifice. Watching her wrestle with grief, trauma, and her own strength while trying to protect the men she loves has been the heart of this series.
And those men? Each of them had their moment here:
✨ River – He’s protective to the extreme, sometimes crossing lines, but it’s always clear it comes from love. I liked that once he was checked, he actually listened and softened. ✨ Jude – My biggest surprise. Guarded and moody at first, but his arc brought so much growth. His shift from resentment to understanding gave me whiplash in the best way. ✨ Eli – This book finally let him breathe. He dropped some of the heaviness and let his playful, chaotic energy shine. Honestly, he became the spark of the group for me. ✨ Oz – A quieter but steady presence. His devotion ran deep, even when he didn’t always say it. You could feel how much he cared, even in his silence.
The bonds between Freya and her men are what kept me turning pages, and the why-choose dynamic stays central until the end. There’s plenty of angst, a lot of devotion, and a ton of spice. Honestly, maybe too much spice for me at times — it sometimes undercut the emotional weight or the thriller vibe I wanted more of.
Still, the ending ties everything up with heart and heat. While it wasn’t my favorite of the trilogy pacing-wise, I loved finally seeing these characters find their way back to each other and claim their HEA.
You’ve stumbled into my latest jungle of emotional ruination, and I’m right there with you, teeth bared and heartbeat echoing. It's going to be ok, I promise.
Darkness of Mine isn’t just the finale of the Of Mine series, it’s the thunderous, gut skinning climax that leaves you raw, trembling, and inexplicably torch lit inside. This is where Freya’s shadows stop being silent. It’s where trauma doesn’t just whisper, it roars with all of it's truths, blooms into twisted resilience, and then unfurls into something dangerously triumphant.
From the first flicker to that final embers kissed moment, Jude, River, Oz, Eli and Freya are your brutal, beautiful companions. Jude’s grief beat shatters the floorboards from the jump. Freya’s darkness isn’t a costume anymore, it’s her skin at this point, revealing and fracturing with electric force. River brings the staunch backbone to this little family that everyone need. Oz has the softest heart that you can't help but fall in love with. And Eli, my dear, scar marked hero, he anchors the chaos with fierce, quiet loyalty that might just break your ribcage. Their bonds aren’t just forged, they’re forged in fire, desperation, and love that knows too much and zero bounds.
This isn’t a series with a gentle landing. It drags you through the storm, beats you senseless with heartbreak, and then, when you’re nothing but dust and feelings, it builds you back into something fierce. The ending isn’t just satisfying, it’s the only possible ending that could have done justice to this messy, beautiful wreck of a story.
You're going to say you’re in a book slump afterward, but friend, this is the kind of warp you emerge from changed, as though part of your soul is still out there with Freya and her men. So let the slump cradle you a bit, it means you cared and Alexis wrote a story that just well and truly smashed it out of the damn park.
Where do I even begin with this book? It is everything I have ever wished for a conclusion for a series and more. The last two books were an exhilarating ride for fans of Criminal Minds or any books/shows related to serial unalivers and how their mind works. It is evident that Alexis puts so much thought and care into this book giving her readers a glimpse of how criminals think and plot their crimes. It was mind blowing and exciting. Never a dull moment!
And the spice levels on this book went up compared to the first two books which I love because the plot & spice was well balanced. In this book we will also get to know more about the MMCs and their past, their trauma and how far they would go to keep Freya.
Oh to be Freya. I have never been so jealous of a fictional character. 😭
Aside from all the details I have already mentioned that you can read from this book, you will also see the beautiful and heartwarming character development of not only Freya but everyone around her. Reading a book that leaves its mark on you because you see a piece of yourself in a fictional character will never be not magical & emotional for me that'll make me sobbing my eyes out.
It is a beautiful conclusion to a very amazing series. I cannot wait to read more books from this world. 🖤
