A lot happened in this and boy was it exciting! I can’t believe they finally managed to get closure for the family drama and all but admitted their feelings! I’m so excited for the next volume!

The first half of this volume was a bit weak, with a lot of jumping around and random scenes. The author does have the tendency to build up scenes pretty well, but then fall flat on the execution, not utilizing the characters and setting as much as they could.

This is most evident in the mother storyline of this volume. It gets Brigitte in the house and deepens her relationship with her stepbrother, but it was a huge miss in how it could have developed anything between the mom and Brigitte, which could have been touching and an important milestone. With how well her rocky relationship with her father is handled, it's a bit head-scratching how lackluster anything to do with her mother is.

It is adorable to see Brigitte connect with her stepbrother and the way she just wants to get closer to him without being a burden -- it is very indicative of her thoughtful personality that has unfortunately been trampled by those close to her in the past. As for where the relationship with her stepbrother will go... it's a bit dubious about where it will go with how Yuri reacts to scenes with Roze in them. I'd rather just have the focus be on Yuri and Brigitte developing together as individuals and as a possible future couple.

The ending really saved this volume, though, and the way Brigitte is finally able to stand up for herself and show what exactly she is capable of is a beautiful thing. I like how her friends were involved in that final scene, firmly showing their support for Brigitte while also allowing and giving her the space to release her pent-up grief and rage in the way that makes the most sense for her.

This series hits all the points for me. It has been a 5 star every book. There is progress in romance, there is progress on each character personal growth. This book specifically address’s Brigette’s family and what all that entails. It was nice to dive deeper into her relationship with her father/mother and the inner workings of their dukedom. I think the only annoying thing that i didnt like was

Can't believe the 3rd volume took this long to be picked up and translated. (There's currently 5 volumes). I read it the very day it was available.

This is the volume where the ship sails, tries to drown you in cruelty, and throws you a lifeboat of sweetness.

--Spoiler--

Just when you thought her parents couldn't get any lower, they do. Worse was they only got a slap in the wrist. I do have a problem with the side characters, since they make a fast heel-turn and become very fond of Brigitte, usually out of nowhere (at the moment, we have a golden-retriever, a fangirl, and a siscon)

I wish the author had the characters talk about why Yuri was at the mansion in the first place a decade ago. We only got a thank you for trying to help her. Yuri saying that she was his fiancée, he never fully explained this to her, now she thinks it was just an excuse. (So, in Yuri's mind Brigitte has always been his fiancée (even though the formal talk never materialized), she just didn't know.)

If it burns too slow, the fire goes out

Overall, I don’t have objections to the story progression in this volume. However, by the end of it, I was frustrated with the dithering from the main characters. They know that they love each other, but refuse to actually SAY SO. I appreciated that the first volume is safe for children while not being dumbed down, but I think they can manage a simple kiss by volume three. Maybe it’s a cultural thing, but the way Brigitte practically goes into cardiac arrest at the prospect of a kiss is just ridiculous to me.
I really enjoyed the first two books, but I just don’t know if I can deal with more slow burn at this point. Based on the cover art, I thought they’d be getting married in this volume. Spoiler alert: Not even close. Are they even officially dating in Brigitte’s mind??? * sigh *

Frenemies in Love?

The female lead is one of the most forgiving and fun-loving heroine I've ever encountered. Her personal growth arc is inspiring, and she's the perfect foil for the hard to read male lead. The innocence of first love shines through, but the story also has a darker side with family secrets that are finally being revealed in this light novel.

I took one star off because if after all that’s happened Brigitte is still claiming she doesn’t know if Yuri likes her then there is something wrong with her character development. She has to be smarter than this! But overall I love this story, I love Peep, I want Yuri and Brigitte to be happy together and I really hope there will be a volume 4!!

That cover is so misleading!!! (╯°益°)╯彡┻━┻

Anyway, we’ve got some answers in this volume about things that I didn’t know I wanted to know about. Ooooohhhhhh!!!!!! Also, the afterword said that theres gonna be a fourth volume! That’s exciting! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ I just hope that I don’t gotta wait a year to read it.

Another great story. Fast and direct to plot points. Only that Brigitte's denial of their relationship is getting annoying. They should just confess.

Still don't know why Yuki was there 11 years ago...

The third installation took a nose dive in terms of quality. Brigitte suddenly lost her character and became one of those besotted shoujo manga girls and the writing turned confusing. I don't think I'll be continuing the series.

This is a fun little series that has surprising depth to it. One of things that's really interesting is this very much seems a story about an abuse victim learning to heal and move on. Brigitte has been abused both by her family and by her former fiancé. As she slowly starts to come into her own, Brigitte begins to realize both that the way she's been treated is wrong and that she’s let herself become someone she’s not. The books are as much about her healing and moving on as they are about the romance.

It becomes very obvious early on in the first book that Prince Joseph is a manipulative twat and has done his best to isolate Brigitte and keep her under his thumb, to the point where she’s even given up on a number of her dreams and downplayed her own intelligence. Once free of him, Brigitte begins to blossom as well as discover who she really is. Slowly gaining both friends and confidence, Brigitte starts coming out of her shell as well as healing from her abuse. Books two and three both deal with Brigitte confronting her main abusers to some extent: Prince Joseph and her father.

One of things that I appreciate is the fact that Brigitte’s responses seem quite realistic, if a bit exaggerated at times. For all that the setting is fantastical, the characters feel quite real. I’m going to be every interested in where the story goes in the further volumes and how Brigitte and Yuri’s relationship develops. Four out of five stars.
