Keeping Score

Rate this book
Jake Montgomery, property billionaire, womanizing playboy and arrogant jerk.

He's American royalty, from a multi-generational political family. I'm an ordinary girl from a small mid Western town.

He lives in a luxurious apartment overlooking the park, and I rent a room in a small apartment-share.

Our worlds are so different. I'd be mad to fall for him.

Ten years ago, I made the mistake of hooking up with him. He rejected me...in the cruelest way.

Bastard. I hate him.

Now I'm supposed to work with him? If he thinks I'll play along, he's got another think coming. I'm going to beat him at his own game. He may not have rated me back then, he may have under-estimated me, but he won't do it again.

This is a redo, and it's time to settle the score...

Keeping Score is an enemies to lovers billionaire workplace romance set in New York. It can be read as a complete standalone.

This enemies-to-lovers billionaire workplace romance is intense, steamy, and full of heart.

Jake Montgomery almost broke Andi once, and now, forced to work with him again after a lucky break, he does it again. One minute he is magnetic and irresistible, the next he is cold and careless, keeping her on edge. Another fall could ruin her completely, her heart and her career included.

He is the untouchable billionaire playboy who never settles, yet he is shaped by a cruel father who made him feel nothing he did was ever enough. That damage is clear in the way he loves and the way he hurts.

Andi is strong, brave, and unwilling to be a doormat, but her insecurities are real, born from memory and past pain. Their emotions, their chemistry, and their spicy scenes are wow, making every interaction addictive and intense.

This is a great second chance story, messy, passionate, and emotional, with sizzling chemistry that keeps you hooked from start to finish. He made a mistake by leaving her before. Will she forgive him? Will she take him back? Recommended!

This billionaire enemies-to-lovers romance delivers a sharp mix of tension, heat, and emotional chaos. Jake and Andi are thrown back together after a painful past, and watching them navigate old wounds while trying to stay professional is addictive.

Jake’s push-and-pull personality is charming one second, distant the next, and shows just how much his upbringing shaped him. While Andi’s strength and vulnerability make her easy to root for. Their chemistry is undeniable, and every scene between them carries weight, whether emotional or steamy.

As a second-chance romance, it’s fast, intense, and full of feeling, with just enough drama to keep you turning the pages. Recommended for anyone who loves messy, passionate, high-stakes love stories.

This is book 1 in Connor's Manhattan Playboys series. A well written and captivating romance read and a great start to a new series. Connor delivers strong main characters in Jake and Andi and their journey from enemies to lovers. I loved the banter and the push and pull between these two that Connor so deftly writes. I was hooked from the start. A wonderful romance read I would readily recommend and am looking forward to more!

New to me Author.

Been in a book rut for the last week or so. And came across Cate’s book on Amazon free last wk. Started it this morning and finished it within a few hours. Love how the characters relationship came together. I like that Andi stood up for herself. And spoke her mind when she went in on the Senator, when no one else would. I like that about her. Great read will be checking out more books 📚 from this author.
It gets all the stars. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Not at all spicy 🌶️ IMO. But really worth the time I spent reading it.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Jake and Andi. The author does a great job developing the story and paints her scenes perfectly. She takes you into their lives with chemistry and romance and kept me turning the pages with their banter and undeniable pull between them. She moves the story fluidly and delivers a terrific read.

This enticing story had me all caught up in Jake and Andi. A past incident has Andi's walls up when it concerns jake and for a good reason and when she learns that she has to work with him let the games begin. This enemies to loves romance is well written with a great story plot along with characters that really makes this story stand out.

Interesting storyline, irritating grammar.

Good storyline, both the writer and the reviewer need grammar lessons in the use of personal pronouns - particularly the use of I and me. Quite irritating to a reader like myself who loves words. Good storyline or not, had into bought the two books together, I would not submit myself to the torture to reading the second. I hope Ms Connor redeems herself with better grammar.

I absolutely love this authors books!
Most of the characters are always very likeable, and I love how the female characters are portrayed - i.e strong and now pushovers!
Great storyline albeit a little sad when you hear the backstory.
Great start to a new series - can't wait for the rest of them.
Would highly recommend.

Good story line but Cate Connor's style of writing the thoughts of the characters is quite irritating. They're almost like diary inserts of horny teenagers. This is the second book i've read and I recognised the style straight away.

This is book one in the series. The book opens on a young naïve Andi getting swept off her feet by a handsome man (Jake) who breaks her heart and then how they meet again years later. Secrets are shared and fears are overcome.
It was a really good story full of twists and turns with a hea.

Angsty

This love story had lots of banter and push\pull between the two main characters and the writing made the MMC seem like an ass for much of the book. Their were also misused or misspelled words such as think instead of thing and kerb instead of curb. Otherwise, the story was interesting and finally came together for a HEA.

I had to DNF this book, which is SO hard for me! It has potential. If you are looking for a quick and easy read go for it. I didn’t care for the characters, they “spoke” more like high schoolers than mid-30 year olds. There were a lot of word choices I found strange as well. The writing style was a little chaotic for me.

I liked this book as the characters have good chemistry. They date and then the MMC just disappears and then they find each other again years later and the chemistry is still there between them. They have their ups and downs but finally talk and see things the way they should be. Love seeing into the future as well, great ending to the book.

The writing is some of the worst I've seen in a very long time. I couldn't make myself push through. DNF'd at 3%

DNF- Quite literally couldn’t get past the third chapter of the book. It felt like I was reading something a high schooler wrote. Not trying to hate on the writing style, just not my cup of tea.

I really enjoyed Keeping Score and the fiery love hate dynamic between Jake and Andi. Their sharp banter, competitive tension, and undeniable chemistry made for a compelling read. The push and pull between them kept the story engaging, with just the right balance of rivalry and romance.

Cate does a great job of building tension, making their eventual moments of connection all the more satisfying. If you enjoy workplace romances with witty dialogue and strong characters, this one is definitely worth a read!

Great story

Second chances at its finest! There are so many amazing things going kn in this story. The writing and story unfolds beautifully. Andi is an amazing and relatable character. There are a lot of moving parts that mean to fit together at just the right times. The climax was beautiful and very much deserved. I loved every page from beginning to end!
