Using the principles and methods of this practical groundwork training will also effectively deepen the connection and relationship with your horse.
To educate young and inexperienced horses and ponies a trainer should understand the physical and mental ability of the horse he/she is teaching and be able to recognise and interpret the horse’s display of, for example, affection, boredom, fear, temper, tension etc.
He/she must be willing to learn, quickly notice any change in the horse’s behaviour and have the knowledge to adapt the training accordingly.
This horsemanship book will be your guide and teacher through your successful groundwork training. It explains in detail,
✓ how to teach your youngster to lead safely in hand and gives advice on necessary training equipment and how to fit it,
✓ how to introduce loose-schooling and loose-schooling over jumps, and how to use lungeing equipment safely,
✓ how to communicate with your horse effectively from the ground,
✓ how to lunge your horse correctly and gainfully with purposeful lungeing and long-reining sessions.
This natural horse training guide will teach you everything you need to know about getting the most benefit from your groundwork training sessions, always keeping in mind that the end result of the groundwork training should be a horse that is obedient, has confidence in his trainer/handler and enjoys his work – in short, a well-mannered horse that is a credit to you.
Extensive, practical, and helpful advice on diagnosing specific handling and groundwork training problems. Understand why your horse reacts in a certain way. Detailed solutions will help you deal with the evasions or resistances to prevent them from happening again and will help you with the reschooling of poorly trained or difficult horses.

Christopher Conradt was born and educated in Germany where some of his family members were closely involved with horses as veterinarians and breeders. He trained with internationally known showjumping trainer and course-designer Anthony Paalman, horse trainer and international dressage judge Gisela Holstein and Irish international event rider and coach Eric Smiley. He trained young horses to competition level in dressage, show-jumping, cross-country and eventing and he successfully re-schooled many older problem horses. He also worked for many years as designer of equestrian equipment in Ireland. In his training books he supports the natural horsemanship training principles based on trust between horse and trainer relying on understanding the horse's natural instincts and behaviours. Christopher now lives in Cyprus enjoying the sunshine, writing more how-to training material, teaching a few pupils and keeping himself fit riding his Irish Sport Horse.
