When an EMP wipes out the power grid, Stephanie’s world shatters, and survival is no longer a choice. It’s a necessity. A skilled welder who built her life on hard work, she spent years running from her prepper upbringing, determined to give her twin daughters a normal life. But as chaos erupts and danger closes in, the skills she rejected may be the only thing keeping them alive. Forced to confront her past, she must outwit ruthless survivors and tap into the instincts she swore she’d never use again.
WOW, This book grabbed my attention from the first sentence. One of the best Apocalypse books ive read. David was home with his twin daughters, getting ready for school and work, then everything stopped working. Because his wife was raised as a prepper, David and his family were prepared to survive. Thats all im going to write because i dont want to spoil anything.
This was another EMP story. It was okay but it felt like it was overly dramatic in the telling. I suppose it’s possible that the collapse of society could happen happen that quickly, but the characters felt unrealistic, too dramatic, too manic. Or extremely TSTL. Or just unlikeable. I am sorry, it wasn’t a terrible story, just didn’t resonate with me.
her father raised her to be a prepper she ran away and went to the city she became a welder and married and had twin girls
then the emp wiped out everything
she got a old truck that was still running, got her husband and twins out of the city she saved a young girl in a tunnel from bad men
then they captured her and her family. but the girl she saved was from some preppers, they saved her and her family and took them with them to the compound
they told her they would have to pull their weight and in 3 months they would all decide if they could stay or not. they were free to leave anytime, but there was no where to go
then she was told to meet the head of the preppers , it was her dad.
they all worked hard to secure their compound
the bad men kidnapped her daughters but they got them back

A great story about life after an EMP. Stefan ie and David try to take their twin girls to safety after the apocalypse. Stefanie had years of survival training at a young age by her father Joe. As a teen she grew weary of the training and went to make a life herself in the city where she met David. This is the story of their scary journey. Saving another little girl and reuniting with Joe in the safety of a protected homestead. Lots of insite into what could happen and response to a cataclysmic event. Surprise ending and happiness for the family. I recommend this great nook. Thank you William Stone for a realistic view of an apocalypse and the effects after. Great book. Loved it.
This reads like a cheap Hollywood action thriller. Shallow and Unbelievable characters, impossible, and implausible situations. Timelines that don’t match up . This feels like somebody who’s heard about survival stories , and done some brief research wrote a screenplay for a Hollywood movie.
I made it 15% through before I quit . The characters are not interesting , or believable, or even particularly likable.
On the plus side , spelling, punctuation and grammar seem solid. I would say editing is good except it needs someone to work on cohesiveness, continual, and believability. Plus the overall stories is a hot mess.
This was one of the most intense action-packed stories of this genre I have read in a long time. Stephanie is a very complex character. Her ability to so quickly adapt to the sudden changes in her world and revert to the warrior survivalist of her youth makes for a great story. I was very glad that this is a complete stand-alone book (get kind of tired of the 3-5 book series that take forever to finish), although it would be interesting to see how her new community continues to develop. I would also be curious about how her marital relationship changes with this whole new person revealing herself to her husband.
What would you do if there was an EMP attack on the United States? Well, Stephanie was at work as a welder at the airport when the event happened. She knew she had to get home any way possible to her husband and 7 year old twin daughters before everyone else realized just how bad this was going to be. Stephanie knew - she had been raised by a survivalist father. She knew she'd do whatever it took to keep her family safe.
This was a great story, full of lots of prepper info and full of action.
My only complaint is that I want more!!!! I really would love a few more installments of thus story line. I want to see how Joe and Stephanie's relationship grows and find out more back story on all the characters..... Come on Mr. Stone give us what we want......pretty please. This story hooks you in the first page and doesn't let up. I had to take a few breaks when the tension got to me....for several minutes here and there but mostly read it in one sitting. If you like this genre you will thoroughly enjoy this book.
4 stars Format: Kindle This was a pretty good EMP survival book. Maybe thriller too? We follow a family and a mom who has all the training to be prepared for the day the world went black and she helps her family survive and they end up finding a safe haven for themselves but when she can finally be at peace, her twin girls get taken away so her and her husband and father goes to save them and I just really enjoyed this :) I recommend if you like survival novels
This has mega prepped, an escaped prepper and difficult family history. I wanted to like Stephanie as a capable female character, but she careens around with her family and overrules her husband constantly- he is admittedly quite clueless. There is a lot jumping back and forth between now and 20 years ago and much of that became repetitive. It also used so many formulaic elements that it became a little predictable. We never find out what caused the EMP or why the city kept exploding.
The good: the hero isn’t clueless and frustrating. The bad: the writing is over-described. Instead of building empathy through character development, instead of building suspense, the excess description slows the pace and invites boredom.
Hope the author develops because he has potential.
A great quick paced read about what could happen to our society at any time. The cause of society’s end was secondary to the story so was never really explained but it also was not necessary to my enjoyment of this book. I found myself reading late into the night and I just didn’t want it to end!
I enjoyed this apocalyptic book a lot. It had a really good story and the characters were well developed. The only problem is that it needs an editor. There are sentences that end without really being an ending and there are inconsistencies in the story itself. But overall it was a good story to read
Not the typical story of this genre, other than the EMP, the violence in the surrounding world, and the extraordinary difficulties. It was the characters and their connections that kept me reading. I’m puzzled by more than a few odd incidents. But those will keep me thinking about this story.
All the agony of her youth pays off as the world plunges into darkness. No zombies, but an army of low-lifes intent on attacking the prepper compound, steal Joe’s granddaughters and father and daughter take on the multitudes of depraved bums. All that training that she escaped from in her youth comes back as muscle memory. Simple story but well told.
The reality of the after effects of an EMP over the American continent is a very hard one indeed! This story tries to portray the life after an explosion which show how society breaks down. Good people still exist, need to form alliances, guard their supplies from thieves. This is a story with adventure, romance and surprises.
I’ve never read this author’s books before, but he captured what makes survival books so good. An unexpected event, a family’s struggle and strength helps them after an EMP occurs. I don’t want to say too much, other than read this book!
Realistic portrayal of how things could ensue and of how people might act when push comes to shove. Thank you for a thought provoking ride through a possable future.
The grammar changed halfway through the book, from normal talk to stiff enunciated words. There is nothing that ruins a book more for me. No-one in the real world speaks like that.
This was a new treatment for emp. Twenty years after escaping from the farm where her father trained her for an EPM.one occurs. While escaping the city with her husband and twins ,they accident join a group. what happens next? I really enjoyed this approach and the story
Wow! I was expecting something mediocre but caught a falling star! Kudos to the author for a brilliant TEOTWAWKI adventure. Could read it again and aim to buy a paper copy. WELL DONE
The plot opens your eyes to what if's in a world quickly falling apart and no longer relying on technological enjoyments. Sara's past and present intertwine in this action-packed survival.
I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, the story was redundant , the author wrote the same parakeet and over. I skipped over many paragraphs because they were just the same as the last one. Just not well written . I won't read William stone again.
This really is a good story and I do recommend it, but it has a few places that dispute itself. Almost like one sentence forgot the other sentence had been written. I REALLY liked the ending.
Their way this author writes about the characters and the challenges and struggles for their lives and safety makes for an exciting read. I just read deep into the night to see how it ended.
This is a book easy to get into with reasonable character development, EMP plot, with family/Prepper storyline. William Stone writes in a way that makes his writing seem more like a narrative of our future awaiting us.
Nice little story. Paced well, flashbacks were well considered. If the entire book wasn't riddled with spelling errors and plot inconsistencies this might have been 5/5. Get a new editor or proof reader.
I would call this more of a survivalist book then a pepper book. It's all about them surviving because they prepped but doesn't really show the prepping itself. Moved quickly. Good gun fights. Nice plot.
