Dishonorable Hero: A Terlizzi Family Prequel

Rate this book
My family taught me to fight for honor. But honor has no place in a world of betrayal.

Luciano Terlizzi knows the price of loyalty. When his brother’s mistakes bring the wrath of Giovanni Lucatello down on their family, Luc takes the punishment meant for another—branded with the Lucatello family crest as a reminder of their power and his shame.

Gianna Lucatello is innocence trapped in a gilded cage.

Raised under her father’s iron fist, she dreams of a life beyond his control. But when her quiet rebellion draws the attention of the wrong people, she learns that freedom has a cost—and safety comes with chains.

Dishonorable Hero takes place five years before Charming Villain. It reveals the scars Luciano carries, the cage Gianna can’t escape, and sets the stage for their happily ever after.

Cora Kent fell for her first villain before she even knew what romance was. Ever since Scar was denied a happily ever after, she’s been on a mission to give all the dark, dangerous anti-heroes the endings they deserve. If the Big Bad Wolf had swept Little Red off her feet, it might have saved the fairy tale—so that's exactly what Cora does in her novels: grants her bad boys redemption through passion, power, and the women who can handle them.

When she’s not spinning tales of morally gray heroes and forbidden desires, you’ll find her snuggled up with her cat, sipping a margarita, and watching Grey’s Anatomy.

This is a prequel novella, but while it short and to the point it has so many vital tid bits about Luciano and Gianna’s life.
It sets the scene of why so many things happen in the series, like Luciano’s scars and how caged Gianna really was - their individual struggles and gives us the insight into their characters.
Excellent prequel - the detail and emotion pulls you in, perfect.

- The author employs a meticulous choice of words, crafting each sentence with an economy that heightens the sense of tension. The intentional use of fragmented thoughts mirrors the characters’ emotional turmoil, immersing the reader in their despair. In addition, the vivid imagery evokes a sense of claustrophobia, as if the walls of the setting are closing in on both the characters and the audience. This stylistic choice not only enhances the overall mood but also reflects the internal struggles of the characters, drawing the reader deeper into their psychological landscape.

Furthermore, the author’s manipulation of pace creates a rhythmic ebb and flow that keeps readers on edge. Short, choppy sentences often accompany moments of high tension, while longer, flowing sentences allow for introspection and contemplation. This contrast effectively captures the unpredictability of fear and desperation, ensuring that the narrative never becomes stagnant. The occasional use of unsettlingly poetic phrases serves to layer the story with a haunting beauty, even amidst the horror.

As the plot thickens and the stakes rise, the writing style becomes increasingly frenetic. The choice to employ a non-linear narrative forces the reader to piece together the timeline of events, mirroring the confusion and chaos experienced by the protagonist. This technique not only serves to enhance the suspense but also invites readers to actively engage with the unfolding mystery, forging a stronger connection to the characters’ plight.

Ultimately, the combination of these stylistic elements creates a chilling and immersive experience that resonates long after the last page is turned. The author’s ability to intertwine eloquent prose with raw emotion fosters a rich tapestry of dark themes, encouraging readers to confront their own fears and perceptions of reality. As the narrative unfolds, the skillful interplay of style and substance reinforces the gripping nature of the story, ensuring that it lingers in the mind and heart of the reader, leaving them contemplating the shadows that permeate both the page and the human condition.

Dishonorable Hero is a tense, emotionally charged prequel that pulls readers into the shadows of a mafia empire built on loyalty, betrayal, and the physical and emotional scars that come with it. Cora Kent expertly sets the stage for a powerful love story yet to unfold in the follow-up novel, Charming Villain.

In this novella, we’re introduced to Luciano “Lucky” Terlizzi, a man who has paid a brutal price for his brother’s mistakes. Marked—literally and figuratively—by the Lucatello family, Lucky is a character shaped by pain, bitterness, and a burning desire for revenge. Though he hasn’t yet crossed paths with Gianna Lucatello, his connection to her world is already laced with high stakes and unresolved tension.

Gianna, the sheltered daughter of the ruthless Giovanni Lucatello, is revealed through her inner monologues and tense interactions with her controlling father and loyal maid, offering glimpses of the quiet strength and simmering defiance she keeps carefully hidden. Trapped in a world where safety is conditional and rebellion is dangerous, Gianna’s voice is both soft and defiant, making it clear she’s yearning for more than the life her father controls.

What makes Dishonorable Hero so compelling is how it builds anticipation. This isn’t a love story yet—it’s the groundwork for one. The novella gives us a glimpse into the emotional battleground on which both characters stand, with the promise of a collision looming in Charming Villain.

For readers who enjoy dark mafia romances with complex characters and slow-building intensity, Dishonorable Hero is a must-read. It’s short, sharp, and absolutely unforgettable.

Dishonourable Hero - Cora Kent
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Prequel to “Charming Villain” coming on May 20th 2025.

The prequel gives context to Luciano and Gianna lives; both will be seen in Charming Villain. The short book explores the power imbalances that exist and the situations that feed into the upcoming plot line. Both main characters are going through their own trying situations all set in the same Mafia based world and their problems are caused by the same person…they just don’t know it yet.

The added value of this prequel is the background and context of events leading into the story that will be explored in Charming Villain. The main event in the prequel is a precursor to all that is to come. In my experience, with the foresight of this prequel read before going onto reading and reviewing Charming Villain…all I have to say is…this is about to go offfff🫣
The prequel is Dual POV, adding depth to the characters and allowing the reader to get to know how each of them see the world around them, their thoughts and emotions.

Characters and their supporting counterparts have been well established and placed in all the right parts in the prequel considering it is a short read.
The tone of this read gives me such anticipation and excitement to reading the novel. The writing is well paced, some descriptions are repeated but for me it only added more dramatic effect. Structure and narrative continued to flow.

I’m happy I read this first before reading the ARC of the novel. It gave me the well needed introduction to the world and characters that I needed and gave me feet kicking, stomach dropping excited to move on to the next book.

I would highly recommend reading the prequel first before moving on, especially if you are new to the Mafia Romance world.

3.75stars-DISHONORABLE HERO is the prequel short story in Cora Kent’s contemporary, adult TERLIZZI FAMILY dark, erotic, crime family series. This is Luciano Terlizzi and eighteen year old, musician Gianna Lucatello’s introduction. The events of Dishonorable Hero take place five years before Charming Villain.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual firs person perspective (Luciano and Gianna) DISHONORABLE HERO reveals the precipitating factors and attack against our story line hero for the sins of his brother. Vowing vengeance, alongside his brothers Dante and Salvatore, Luciano must come to terms with what happened and why. Meanwhile, eighteen year old Gianna Lucatello is about to get her first taste what goes on behind closed doors, having spend most of her life a captive princess in a gilded cage.

The world building is fast and furious revealing some of the background . Our couple have yet to meet, their steps towards defiance begins. We are introduced to Gianna’s father Giovanni Lucatello, Luciano’s brothers Dante and Salvatore

DISHONORABLE HERO is a fast paced, short story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, family and relationships. The premise is dramatic and edgy; the characters are determined and desperate. DISHONORABLE HERO ends on a cliff hanger-of sorts.

Dishonorable Hero: A Terlizzi Family Prequel by Cora Kent. Luciano Terlizzi's brother made the mistake of getting on the wrong side of Giovanni Lucatello and accepted his brother's punishment. At the same time, Giovanni Lucatello's daughter Gianna started to resent her father's demanding and controlling behaviour towards her. Will Luciano and Gianna join together to escape the family? The readers of Dishonorable Hero will continue to follow Luciano and Gianna to discover what happened.

Dishonorable Hero is an enjoyable dark romance short story about family honour and betrayal. This book also allows readers to become familiar with the main characters before starting a new series by Cora Kent. Reading this book also prompted me to think about the dangers of children living in a controlling environment. Cora Kent does an excellent job of highlighting the beliefs of the Mafia family. I love Cora Kent's writing style, the way she portrayed her characters, and their interaction with each other throughout this book. Dishonorable Hero is well-written and researched by Cora Kent. I appreciate Cora Kent's description of the settings in Dishonourable Hero, which complements the book's plot.

Thank you to the author of my ARC in exchange for an honest review. I recommend this book.

Luciano Terlizzi is in a bit of a tizzy ,he took the punishment meant for another ,namely his brother . Branded with the Lucatello Crest. Gianna Lucitello is meek and thought of as mild while inside she’s fighting ,she’s wild, being raised with an iron fist . She dreams of escaping this. She’s in a cage ,gilded or not ,she’d rather escape than rot with her lot in this life. Honour has no place when it comes to betrayal as Luciano discovered …epic fail such as his life. Gianna she learns the hard way ,there’s a price to pay for freedom and sometimes those heavy shackles ,those chains …remain.Luc has made his bed but won’t lie down without a fight ,he has strength ,he has might and he will return with his battle scars intact and that’s a fact. Explosive strength and endurance and will. This book sure gives tension, a thrill ,not to mention heating up like a fierce prenup of what’s to come . I for one find this yum…Massive pleasure and looking forward to reading this treasure of a series with excellent build up and teases like this you just know that it’s going to be epic . It’s driven ,it’s spectacularly written . Descriptors and immersive scenes are awesome.

Dishonorable Hero is about a series of brutal flashbacks experienced by Gianna Lucatello and Luciano Terlizzi. Gianna is the daughter of Giovanni Lucatello, a vicious, cruel, and dangerous mob boss. Gianna is held prisoner in the gilded cage that is her father’s mansion. She has been groomed to be the perfect mafia princess, but deep down, she hates the life her father demands. Luciano is the brother of Dante Terlizzi, a mob boss in a rival family. Luciano is used as an example to his brother by Giovanni of what happens when Giovanni is crossed. It serves as the catalyst for the hatred Luciano will harbor against Gianna’s father. Gianna and Luciano will meet in the next book in the series.

Dishonorable Hero is an excellent prequel to The Terlizzis series by Cora Kent. The author has done a fantastic job with world building and character development. Cora Kent is known for her well-written, mafia romance stories. Take a chance on this new series, starting with this prequel.

Dishonorable Hero is a suspenseful and definitely a page turning dark mafia romance. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading this novel and did NOT want to set it down until I read the last page of the story. This story is amazingly written, exceptionally balanced with action/romance and phenomenally executed by Cora Kent. Cora Kent continues to prove to me what an incredible author she is with each phenomenal book I have read by her thus far. Dishonorable Hero follows the adventures of Gianna and Luciano. Now I’m not going to divulge any details about what happens in the book because it is a short story and can be read in less than an hour. The characters are well developed and perfectly executed throughout the story. If you’re looking for a short story dark mafia romance to read, then you should checkout Dishonorable Hero. I’m looking forward to reading more amazing romances from Cora Kent in the future.

At just 36 pages, Dishonorable Hero is a short but satisfying read. As usual with Cora Kent, we’re given a novella that sets the stage for the next couple while offering a glimpse into the larger world. The events of this story take place five years before Charming Villain (set to release in May 2025).

Having read the Terlizzi series and Twisted Sisters, I’ve grown invested in these characters and their tangled lives. This novella introduces the story of Luciano and Gianna Lucatello—whose family makes an appearance in Dark Obsession (which I haven’t read yet, but now I’m definitely intrigued).

If you're new to the series, expect Mafia families, revenge, blood ties, and plenty of intensity. If you’re already deep into this world, Dishonorable Hero is a promising setup that hints at more drama and dark romance to come. Each book can be read as a standalone, but the connections are a treat for returning readers.

Here we are again, another Cora Kent prequel that sets our hearts on fire. Set five years before the start of Charming Villain (the next book in the Terlizzi family series) we get a glimpse into our two MCs and where they are at in their early days. Gianna Lucatello, a mafia princess lives a life of opulence however it is clear that she’s trapped in a golden cage. Forced to live under the oppression of a cruel and cold father, she’s just an asset waiting to be used and dreams of a future where she’s free.

Luciano Terlizzi, on the other hand, has already gotten into the violent and dirty side of mafia politics as his carefree life turns dark when he’s caught in the crossfire of a brewing war between the Terlizzi and Lucatellos and is used as collateral damage to send a message. This encounter leaves him thirsty for blood and sets the scene perfectly for the chaotic and emotional mess we’re going to see in Charming Villain.

“Still, I feel a spark inside me. It’s small, but I fan the ember with each thought of rebellion”

Cora Kent expanding the intricate and dark world that she has created is just what I needed and I’m counting down the days till release. It’s about to get morally grey to the max in here but that’s what makes these characters so intriguing and fun to read!

This prequel starts out with extreme violence that is intense. The scene was really shocking. Late at night, Luciano Terlizzi finds himself alone in an alleyway with an enemy that wants to send a message to his other. Luciano is in the wrong place at the wrong time and endures severe punishment. As he recovers in the hospital, he resolves to take revenge, setting the stage for the full length novel “Charming Villian”

Though the violence was a lot, I am excited to read another story from Cora Kent's world of Mafia families and their illicit operations. I love the raw intensity and spicy dark romance of her full length novels and I am hoping that Charming Villian delivers!

Thank you to BookSprout and author, Cora Kent for this advanced reader copy. This review is my honest opinion.

Luciano (H) never wanted to be a hero, and after the night Giovanni's men dragged him into an alley and branded him like property, he certainly doesn’t feel like one. His only crime? Being the brother of a man who defied the wrong man. Now, scarred and furious, Luciano is done playing by the rules. The only thing on his mind? Revenge. Gianna (h) has spent her life under her father Giovanni's control, a pawn in his endless game of influence and loyalty. Trapped in a mansion that feels more like a prison, she’s been raised to obey, to smile, and to accept that her future isn’t her own. Her father may be able to force Gianna to bend to him now, but she's secretly planning her escape from the world she's trapped in. A fast-moving prequel for "Charming Villain" to introduce Luciano and Gianna, exploring revenge, familial obligations, autonomy, power dynamics, cultural traditions, and the fight to escape the roles forced upon us—no matter the cost.

I read Charming Villains first and absolutely loved it, it became an instant favorite. So reading Dishonorable Hero as the prequel made the whole story even better. It was intense, emotional, and honestly kind of addictive.

This one pulled me in right away. The tension between the characters is off the charts, and seeing how everything started made Charming Villains hit even harder. The hero is complicated and a total mess at times, but that’s what made him so interesting. And the heroine had this quiet strength I really admired. Their dynamic is messy, raw, and completely captivating.

I’ve been reading Cora Kent’s books for a while now, and I swear they just keep getting better. She writes flawed, complicated people who make terrible choices and still somehow deserve love—and I’m always here for it. If you like your romance dark, emotional, and a little bit painful (in the best way), you’ll love this one.

Dishonorable Hero is the prequel to Charming Villain. The prequel takes place 5 years prior. The Lucatello and Terlizzi families are at odds. We get the point of view of Lucky Terlizzi who is the scapegoat to the message the Lucatellos want to send. We also get the view of Gianna Lucatello who is a "prisoner" in her own home. She has just turned 18 but does not have any freedom due to her families criminal ways. We only get a quick glance at each character but they are already very complex and I can picture where the story will go with another arranged mafia marriage. I am excited for Charming Villain and the story between Lucky and Gianna.

Dishonourable Hero by Cora Kent is the prequel to Charming Villain. Both books feature the story of Luciano and Gianna.

I have read other prequel written by Kent, and have invariably found them to be more like teasers than actual prequel books.

Although I find this to be similar with this prequel, the big difference for me is that I have already read Charming Villain. Having read the book that the prequel is for means that I already have some background on these characters and so this time I found the prequel to be much more intriguing.

As such, I think that if you’re planning on reading this prequel, I would either read it after you read Charming Villian or read it if you were planning to continue onto Charming Villain after.

This is a short read prequel, with these events preceding five years before “Charming Villain”.
We’re set up with the characters and events that shows this is going to be a smashing mafia book!
We have Luciano Terlizzi, left with a Giovanni Lucatello brand brutally burned on his chest. Telling him “Your not the messenger, your the message”
We have the beautiful innocent Gianna. Daughter to the same brutal mafia man. She is being groomed for a purpose, time will tell what that purpose is.
There’s lots of great characters mentioned in this prequel. A book I immediately put on my to be read list. 👍🏻.

Dishonorable Hero gives us the backstory on Luciano Terlizzi and Gianna Lucatello. Luciano is the youngest brother of the Terlizzi family. Gianna is the youngest daughter of Giovanni Lucatello, the uncle of Christine. In this prequel, we get to see what really happened to Luciano when he was attacked by the Lucatellos, and we get to meet the daughter of Giovanni. This prequel is short, sweet, and to the point about these two characters and doesn't give us much information about how the two meet before their following story.

*Dishonorable Hero* is the gripping prequel to *The Terlizzis* series by Cora Kent. It introduces Gianna Lucatello, a prisoner in her own home, groomed to be the perfect mafia princess but secretly hating her life, and Luciano Terlizzi, the brother of a rival mob boss, used as a pawn by Gianna’s father to send a brutal message. This act sparks Luciano’s hatred for the Lucatellos.

Set five years before *Charming Villain*, the prequel hints at the complex, dark romance between Lucky and Gianna, possibly leading to an arranged mafia marriage. Cora Kent’s world-building and character development shine, making this a must-read for mafia romance fans.

Dishonorable Hero was my introduction to the Terlizzi family and it did not disappoint! This short prequel packed a punch with an emotionally charged backstory, fierce tension and violence between two feuding mafia families, and wonderfully descriptive writing that transports you into the perilous world of our MCs, Luciano and Gianna. The foreshadowing served as a great setup for Kent's upcoming novel, Charming Villain, as it seems we're going to get an enemies-to-lovers/ forced marriage vibe with our two MCs, who share an abhorrence for the same man—Gianna's father.

I'm excited to continue their story in the next book!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntarily reviewing it. The Terlizzi family is dealing with the blowback of Niccolo's decision to marry his stepdaughter. If you don't know, you need to jump into this series. It has it all. The Terlizzis are sent a message through Luciano. A message that will mean war. The start of something big. Giovanni Lucatello is ready to start a war, but will he be able to finish it. He is setting his daughter, Giana, up for something big. Giana is smart. She knows to pay attention when allowed in the arena. Earning her keep is not her priority. Being free is the only thing that matters to Giana. This is just the beginning.

This prequel to the story of Gianna Lucatello and Luciano Terlizzi. It opens with Luciano being caught in the cross hairs of a situation not of his own making and finding the best way out. Gianna's story begins with background into her life as the younger daughter of the Lucatello family and all that entails. The story setup in this prequel is just enough to whet your appetite for the main story in the novel. As always, Cora Kent knows exactly how to perfectly set the stage for a romance which will rescue two people while destroying others around them.

I’m so excited to get to know Lucky and Gianna! These prequel books give you the juiciest teases to hook you right in and crave more. Cora Kent’s writing is intoxicating, it’s addictive. This short prequel teaser gives you a little backstory on Gianna and her feelings of being a caged bird, the rebellious fire she carries inside. And match that to Luckys desire for revenge, to put things right for him. I’m so pumped to see where this goes!!.

When Luciano Terlizzi takes the punishment meant for his brother, he’s marked—both by the Lucatello family and by the weight of betrayal. Gianna Lucatello, raised under her father’s ruthless rule, longs for freedom but discovers it comes at a price. As their worlds collide, honor and survival hang in the balance.

This is a story about a man bound by loyalty and a woman trapped by family, it’s entertaining and page turning.

Must Read!!!

I’ve been waiting for Luciano’s book since I read Dark Obsession (Niccolo’s book). In this prequel we learn a little more about Luciano and we meet the daughter of the man who punished Luciano for what Niccolo did.

I loved these little prequels Cora does they get you excited for the full length book and this one is no different. I can’t wait for Charming Villain to release in June. And don’t sleep on these prequel novels they all have the main characters backstory definitely recommend reading this!
