Is there a way for science and religion to complement one another? Does quantum physics have any place in the Bible? Do biblical interpretations have any use in explaining scientific observations? Is quantum physics unknowable to religious minds? Must a scientific mind also be void of religion? Is there an unseen world that exists all around us? Do things like strings, branes, multiple dimensions, parallel universes, time warps, quantum entanglement, and extradimensional beings have any place in biblical descriptions of God’s creation? These questions and more are addressed in Quantum Creation. For the first time ever, the study of quantum physics is made available to the religious mind while explaining theological implications. Even better yet, the information is presented in a way anybody can understand. Learn just how perfectly compatible science and religion can be and why it seems they are always at odds. Discover what really makes up everything in existence as reality itself is examined at a quantum level. Find out if things like time travel are scientifically and biblically possible. What is presented in Quantum Creation is the answer to how science and religion really can go hand in hand. Finally, a way to look at the strange and fascinating world of quantum physics from a biblical perspective is here. Quantum Creation was a very thought provoking read. It's easy to read and he lays out some somewhat advanced concepts in laymans terms which I think is practical for most readers. I enjoyed Josh's style of writing- it kind of feels like having a chat with a buddy that has some outside the box ideas that he's approaching you with and wants you to at least consider the possibilities. There's a lot of Biblical references made and he's good at listing a bunch of sources/interviews to go along with his theories. He flat states when he drifts into areas of "speculation", so that's a nice touch as a reader- doesn't feel like he's "pushing" anything on you so that's nice as well.
I enjoyed this book because it got me thinking in ways I had not before. A fresh look at scriptures I have read multiple times. Embracing the vastness of our God and the possibilities for so much more than we can think.
A SYMPATHETIC CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVE ON SUCH QUANTUM THEORIES
Josh Peck is a Christian author and biblical researcher (he is NOT the actor from ‘Drake & Josh’), who is associated with SkyWatch TV and Defender Publishing.
He wrote in the Introduction to this 2014 book, “Once I learned of some of the strange claims made within the science of quantum physics, I began to wonder if the Bible contained any additional information. That is what led me to write this book. The main idea … is that science and religion do not have to be mutually exclusive… The problem is not that science doesn’t agree with religion. The problem is certain interpretations of science don’t always agree with certain interpretations of religion… Nobody has perfect theology. While we know the Bible contains 100% truth, our interpretations of the Bible are not always accurate. If they were… there would be no separate denominations and we wouldn’t argue over things such as the timing of the rapture… What I hope to show in this book is, while many interpretations of quantum physics can be unbiblical and even a bit ‘New-Agey,’ we don’t need to throw the entire study out… We must keep in mind that many … physicists are trying to explain these things outside of a biblical worldview without God… We, as Christians, just have the extra help from the Creator of all to put things in perspective. Throughout this book, I will take you on the same journey I embarked on in reconciling quantum physics with the Bible.” (Pg. 2-4)
He states, “if we were able to travel to the fourth spatial dimension, from our perspective, it would look like three-dimensional objects were changing color, growing, shrinking, appearing and disappearing as they moved through four-dimensional space… since our eyes can only perceive three dimensions, to us they would look like ever-changing three-dimensional objects. This also helps explain why we can’t actually see the fourth spatial dimension… Though we can’t even begin to picture what the fourth spatial would look like, it is all around us… The reality of spiritual existence is here; it is literally right in front of our faces.” (Pg. 30-31)
He notes, “In various forms of entertainment, from books to movies to television shows, the idea of extradimensional (sometimes mistakenly labeled as extraterrestrial) beings coming into contact with humanity is everywhere and increasing. This has been going on for more than a hundred years, especially in regards to higher dimensions. Because I personally share many beliefs that surround Fringe-Christian eschatology, I believe it is possible that humanity is being prepared for something big: something that will involve higher dimensions.” (Pg. 39)
After quoting Jude 1:6, he comments, “This… is talking about Heaven and the heavenly hosts. We also read in Revelation that Satan and his angels are cast to the Earth… The fallen angels fell from their first estate meaning they are no longer residents of Heaven… It is my belief that the fallen angels reside in what I have been calling the fourth spatial dimension, and quite possibly even higher dimensions than that… they still have access to higher dimensions and yet remain in an area above Earth when not interacting with us or our physical reality.” (Pg. 70-71)
He explains, “we can throw in a couple more terms … First is the term ‘extradimensional’, which would refer to something that originates from a different spatial dimension than the three we currently occpy. Next is ‘interdimensional,’ which refers to something that has the capability to travel to othedimensions outside its own… I will refer to extraterrestrial beings as ETs and extradimensional beings as EDs… we want to be able to … show that UFOs and their pilots are actually Eds. If we can show -that, we can build a stronger case toward the idea that these beings are more likely fallen angels rather than ETs.” (Pg. 74)
He points out, “Many times, UFOs have been reported and even filmed to exhibit some seemingly impossible feats. UFOs sometimes split apart and come back together again, change shape and color as they hover in the sky, and even appear in two places at once… there are ways we can use scientific terminology, observations, and logic to make a strong case for EDs over ETs.” (Pg. 79-80)
Of the idea of ‘Many Worlds’ (i.e., an infinite number of parallel universes), he acknowledges, “there are some theological problems with this theory that make most Christians dismiss it as a ridiculous fantasy. Questions some up, for example, like … ‘If every time I make a choice, a parallel version of myself is making the opposite choice, doesn’t that negate free will?’… I believe these are very valid questions that deserve an answer… I do not believe there are multiple versions of ourselves out there … It does not negate your personal free will because you still have the choice to do whatever you want, even if the other ‘you’ chooses something different… While I do not believe there are multiple versions of ourselves out there, I do believe it is at least possible there are multiple universes… It makes perfect sense to me that theoretically the fourth spatial dime+nsion could be made up of a seemingly infinite number of ‘stacked up’ three-dimensional objects, but that in no way indicate these other three-dimensional worlds are inhabited by other versions of ourselves. It would just be the makeup of the fourth spatial dimension… but I do not believe any of them would have to be inhabited by other three-dimensional beings.” (Pg. 97-99)
He suggests, “The basic higher-dimensional theory of today is that there exists ten spatial dimensions plus one temporal dimension… If this is the correct definition of everything within God’s creation, it would bring the total number to twelve dimensions… which has special and specific biblical interpretations. The number twelve is very important in the Bible and always seems to convey the same idea of order, perfection, and divine government.” (Pg. 102)
He says of time travel, “when you go back in the past, you can’t really alter the past. Whatever you try to do in the past will prevent you from actually altering it… suppose you are determined that you are going to prevent you[r] grandparents meeting each other. When you arrive in the past, you break your leg, so you can’t go and do it… when you try and go back into the past, something happens to prevent you from altering the past.” (Pg. 161)
He states, “time is our reality. The spiritual dimension, however, might be different. Time could be more fluid there. God, in essence, is outside of time. He can manipulate time as He sees fit… but God Himself is, by nature, outside of time. He would have to be.” (Pg. 193)
While one may not agree with all of Peck’s interpretations, his voice is a creative one for SkyWatch TV and Defender Publishing, and will interest many open-minded Christians.
Some of the material reboots ideas from the classic book, "Flatland," which I always enjoyed for its multi-dimensional insights, and it dropped a star for me since I was already aware of these ideas. However, Josh did a really good job explaining some heavy-weight physics ideas in plain English, which alone would be worth the price of the book for those without background in that subject, and puts this book comfortably in the three stars category for me.
Of course, due to the subject matter, there is significant conjecture and speculation as there always will be on the subject of theoretical physics, and I found myself disagreeing or skeptical in various areas, although his ideas were very stimulating to consider.
Such a fun and thought-provoking look at the compatibility between science and the Bible. I’ve always been fascinated with quantum physics, extra dimensions, time travel, etc., so this book was right up my alley. It’s all very mind-bending stuff and the author does a great job of tying in some of these complex subjects with God, the Trinity, Creation, Heaven, spirituality and our very finite and limited view of our reality as mere humans. It really brings into focus what a powerful God we serve. 4.5/5 stars-highly recommend
I love physics and astronomy, but my degrees are in Theology and Biblical psychology. This young man helps explain this fascinating subject so that a “layman” can understand it. Plus he is a Bible believing Christian. If physics interest you I highly recommend this book!
