The morning starts out like a routine day for Colton Banyon. Except, the insanely jealous, Loni wants to come to the office and scope out the women that Banyon works with at Dewey & Beatem in Chicago. The entire Patel clan has gone to India to visit with relatives. Previne stays behind, at Banyon's request to inspect an archeological dig site in Las Vegas, . Then the unthinkable happens. There is an explosion at the dig site and Previne is left clinging to life. Her doctors say that she will never recover and they will turn off her life support equipment in three days. Banyon soon discovers that the explosion is no accident and is part of a heinous plot by someone who is just drumming up business. The bomb was purposely planted to sensationalize the atrocities committed by the Japanese, during World War II at a secret facility called Unit 731. When Banyon attempts to notify the Patel clan of Previne's peril, he finds that they are on a remote mountainside in the Himalayas and in serious jeopardy themselves. They must defend their long lost Aunt from a murderous lawyer. They may not get back to Las Vegas in time to say goodbye to their sister. In fact, they may not even survive. He resolves to save Previne and put a stop to the monstrous plot at the same time. Wolf, of course, agrees to help. He enlists help from people at Dewey & Beatem and along with Loni begins to unravel the plot. The plan to save Previne includes stealing something from Area 51, bringing down a major mobster in Mumbai, India and his worldwide organization. It also involves stopping additional bomb threats, dealing with the San Francisco branch of the Tong, and uncovering additional documents concerning Unit 731 from a gravesite in Japan. All must be done in less than three days, or Previne will die.
I was born and raised on Eastern Long Island in the Westhampton area. My youth was full of adventures since we had miles of woods surrounding my home and we were near the ocean. I attended college at Suny Plattsburgh on an academic scholarship and I am a proud member of Theta Kappa Beta fraternity. I earned a degree in Asian history. My mother told people that I was an educated bum. I spent my working career in consumer products industry and traveled the world. Most of the locations in my books are places I have visited. This has given me great background for my writings. My hobbies include: writing, reading, golf, cooking and even a little gambling as I live in Las Vegas. My basis philosophy is: History repeats itself and you will find that theme in all my books.
The main character in this book is, of course, Colton Banyon. He is a unique artifact hunter because he has a secret friend who supplies him with information. In this book, Banyon discovers that someone is watching his every more and he must solve the mystery of Unit 731 without Wolf's help and must stop an incidious plot to ruin the world's financial markets. Eventually, he discovers an old artifact that Adolf Hitler threw away and decides to collect it for himself, but it is not easy to retrieve it.
The Road Runner – A review of the novel ‘A Dubious Crime’
“It is the dim haze of mystery that adds enchantment to pursuit” - Antoine Rivarol
Authors Gerald J. Kubicki & Kristopher Kubicki return with yet another book in the Colton Banyon Mystery series, this one titled ‘A Dubious Crime’. As the title of the series suggests, it is about the exploits of a wily old fox Colton Banyon and his gang. When Previne, a team member gets seriously hurt in an archaeological dig site, old skeletons tumble out of the closet and Colton discovers a heinous plan that threaten the lives of everyone close to him. To stop this from happening he teams up with his closest ally and friend Wolf who with his unique gifts soldier up in time to prevent further catastrophes from happening.
They have managed to come up with a real page turner, you will find yourself getting consumed in its extensive plot line and will anxiously speed through its pages trying to answer that eternal question, ‘what’s going to happen next?’. The fiction in A Dubious Crime isn’t just fiction out of thin air but more of a fictionalized reality, which I personally feel is the best kind there is. This novel has many elements in it that will appeal to a wide audience, especially with its underlying themes that are both realistic and very relevant to the world we live in today.
Although it is a complex plot, it is surprisingly easy to follow and even with the inane twists and turns it manages to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. All the characters are well developed and carry forward the story with them. The writing is both exciting and top notch and the dialogues have this clear sprinkling of subtle wittiness to them. It is a wild nonstop ride that will take you all around the world and won’t rest until you get to the end of the book. And by then you would be ready to order the next book in the series!
I received an e copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. I have to say that I truly enjoy this series and have read and reviewed a few of them. In this story Colt and his friends are once again battling evil forces, but this time no former Nazis are involved. This time the evil is still from the 2nd World War but involves Japan and China. Colt gets involved because he sends his friend and team member Previne Patel to an archeologiecal dig in Nevada where a mysterious explosion occurs leaving Previne perilously close to death. When Colt learns from Wolf (his spirit guide) that the explosion was intentional and part of a plot against Japan and the secret Unit 731, all Colt wants is revenge on those who tried to kill his friend. Meanwhile the rest of the Patel clan who are in India to meet with an aunt are being held hostage by a greedy lawyer. The family is summoned to Previne's bedside as she is near death. Colt comes up with a plan to save her and return her to health. He uncovers and thwarts a plot involving mobsters in India with branches in several countries around the world. His plan includes stealing something from Area 51 which could land him in jail. There are several tense moments but Colt, Loni and friends are once again successful in their adventure.

If you love a plot with silly twists and turns and lots of actions with the Dubious series you will be well entertained. Book 9 is no exception we are plunged once again into a complex and exciting plot that has us flipping pages at a rapid pace in order keep up with the suspense and see what is yet to come. This is another story that packs a lot of bang for its buck.
“A Dubious Crime” propels the team into a mystery of the secret facility known as Unit 731, Area 51, a sinister plot of the Indian mafia and an unimaginable chain of events. The Kubicki’s imagination has no limits. The style is witty, creative, intricate and fun to read. The plot and sub-plot are tightly- written and cover a lot in order to keep us on our toes and entertained till the last page. The original gang is there with all their expertise and once more their antics are out of this world and their dialogue has that wittiness we came to love.
Although part of a series, no fear if you start here this one could easily stand on its own two feet and will thrill you as it did me. Of course you need to be into action, adventure, history and paranormal to enjoy this series.
A Dubious Crime by Gerald Kubicki is an action, adventure, alternate history, paranormal mystery. The main character Colton Banyon is reminiscent of Indiana Jones. While he is the guy you want on your side in a fight with guns or knives or anything else or nothing, he also has that omniscient strategic view that makes him a natural leader.
In summary: here is an adventure with everything: World War II atrocities, global legal conspiracies, international gangs, and military actions. In addition to the action, the supernatural is represented with ancient artifacts stored in Area 51, spiritual omniscient beings, and 8,000 year old transmitters. Throw in some macho leading men and hot, barely dressed women and you have an action adventure that never stops and rarely slows.
Gerald Kubicki continues to thrill us in yet another thrilling book of the Colton Banyon mystery series. The book is tight packed with action and drama while there is an overall air of tension and excitement. Banyon with the help of his legendary friend Wolf and various other resources manages to save the day and make most of the things get corrected.
Kubicki is a master in making the scene come alive with minute observations and details. He does his research well and there is a strong air of authenticity in the tale. His characters are real people with individual personalities which are getting sharpened with each new publication.
A Dubious Crime is a great book and recommended to all mystery lovers.
I had to check to be sure this wasn't just a proof because of seeing so many errors. Judging from the other reviews, I'd guess that those editorial errors did not bother those reviewers. Most were grammatical ones, but a glaring one used twice was "the Great War" which they supposed was the 2nd world war, when in fact, it refers to the 1st world war. The story was fun to read, but did not appeal to someone of my age (74). Seemed kind of childish. My advice to the author is to get a 2nd proofreader to catch the glaring errors. There were commas where none should have been, and none where there should have been. The errors are really too many to list here.
Colton Banyon and his ream, among them his woman Loni Chen and the three Patel sisters, two of them twins, get caught up in a plan to extort billions of dollars out of Japan, It concerns an experimental lab called Unit 731 dating back before WWII.
Previne Patel lies near death after a bomb explodes on an archaeological dig and the team has a three pronged attack. One is in India, the second to take down an Indian Mafia gang, and the third is to retrieve a black diamond with mysterious healing powers from Area 51.
Great fun reading this one. Each book gets better.
Huge fan of author and his Colton Banyon mystery series. Every book gets better this is no exception. Looking for a terrific set of characters and story line this is place to start your reading. Series does not require sequencel reading. Each adventure stands on own. Believe this is my favorite thus far. Author knows how to get started and keep motivated action and adventure. July posts seemed to have disappeared so going to repost. Received copy from author which did not influence my review.
While it started with some World War 2 history that was a bit dry, soon enough it starts hitting on all cylinders, as Colt and his team have to save one of their team members, stop a gigantic Indian criminal organization, and pretty much save the world...again.
I'm really enjoying this series, and the world the characters inhabit.
Although it was number 9 in the series, this is my first one read. It was great as a stand-alone, I have to admit that I was afraid I missed much background, but I was able to delve right into it. The character development was great. The plot, with it's many twists and turns, kept me on my toes. I will be sure to read more in this series!
I just finished reading A Dubious Crime and I think it is the best book yet in the Dubious series. It has everything, excitement, thrills, mystery good against evil and of course a lot of sexy girls. I recommend this book to all my friends to put this book on their must read list!
One of my favorites in this series. Kubicki knows how to create a story with action enough for the most demanding reader. Highly recommend this book and all in series.
