USA Today Bestselling author Jamie Lee Scott brings you the next installment of the bestselling cozy murder mystery series. Now that Mimi Capurro and Charles Parks are co-owners of Gotcha Detective Agency, and Mimi is single again, all should be going well, especially since they just landed a cushy new contract with the local police department. The prostitution decoy sting operation is in full swing and has the stamp of approval from the chief of police. And everything is going great until one of the decoys disappears from the sting operation. Now the Gotcha detectives must find the woman, and find out who would want her to disappear, possibly for good, before the police department vice squad realizes she's gone.
USA Today bestselling author, Jamie Lee Scott, loves killing people, ehem, writing a good mystery. When she’s not writing novels, she’s writing screenplays and making indie films. Her first produced screenplay can be seen on DirecTV’s ShortsHD channel. No One Knows is an “Editor’s Choice” on the channel for short films. Jamie lives on a farm with her husband, two dogs, two cats, and three horses. Aside from writing, Jamie is a competitive barrel racer.
The 5th book in the Gotcha Detective Series is the best so far in a series I already love. Jamie Lee Scott's ability to create a gripping personal story while drawing us into the case at hand is outstanding and makes for consistently awesome novels.
I have long been involved in Mimi's life and drawn to Charles but this time we get to know him a little better and and become more attached to him as narration switches between the two. Mimi has come back strong from all that happened in What a Meth. She is forced to encounter Nick in the course of her work and an emotional confrontation is inevitable. Cortney, who came into the agency strong and impressive, is flexing her detective muscles and forming a personal attachment of her own.
As a team, these four awesome characters address the murder of a contract employee which might be related to their new decoy program, or then again it might not???
I loved this book. The story is told from both Charles's and Mimi's viewpoints. Initially this confused me, but it added so much to the story that I ended up loving it. This is a great series that just keeps getting better. I'm already looking forward to the next book.
“Bad Vice”, fifth in the “Gotcha Detective Agency Mysteries”, took me completely by surprise, and not in a good way. Alternating chapters are told in the voice of Charles and Mimi - it is confusing. The tone is rougher and, sometimes, locker-room coarse. The normally cheerful Mimi spends most of the time in the dumps and Charles, her new business partner, is just downright annoying. And the plot seemed straight out of an old episode of “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit”, though not as well told. It's hard to believe that it is written by the same author as the earlier books. I didn't finish it. 2 Stars.
Mimi is getting herself back together. She has it out with Nick and tells him how she feels. They are collaborating with the police department to catch John's who pay boomers but they are really decoys to catch them. One is killed and the story really turns crazy.. Can't wait to read the next one. Anthony takes off leaving Charles baffled and the book leaves off in another mystery.
I loved this series until this book. I hate the way the chapters go from Mimi to Charles. If you stop in the middle of a chapter you might not remember which point of view it is from. I was so excited about this series as it is right up my ally. But all the rest of the books jump back and forth also. I am so disappointed about this
What a great series, and all except the latest audiobooks are available through Hoopla at your library. The books and are short, fast reads, ending that kept you wanting to read the next book in the series. Glad I found this series.
Okay this was the worst book in the series thus far. It didn’t have to be, but fell victim to bad editing. Weird dangling threads, things forgotten, and the ending wrapped up in four pages! I had to re read it two addional times to understand the convoluted conclusion.
There is great character interact, suspense, and story telling, but these mysteries wrap up too quickly. They build, build, build, and then the killer just admits it.
Like all the other books in the series, this one has royal dose of humor and mystery. And a dash of romance. The story is told by both Mimi and Charles this time, adding more depth to the story. Like always, the solution to the mystery is not obvious, and keeps the reader guessing till the end. The romance between Mimi and Nick gets yet another chance. I've rooted for them since the beginning of the series. I just hope they finally will find a balanced, healthy, mutually respectful relationship, the constant drama, not so hot. The story ends in a major cliff-hanger. I don't like cliff-hangers at all, huge turnoff for me. And if you have to wait for the next book in the series for a year, even worse. Series that are well written, are addictive enough without getting hold of the reader by ending the book with a cliff-hanger. Just my opinion, nothing against the author. But it does drop a star from me.
While this is the 5th book in the series, it's the first book where the story is told from Charles' POV as well as Mimi's. I loved this book on so many levels. I'm a huge Charles fan and always have been, so getting inside his head was fun. I laughed so hard at Mimi (and felt badly for it afterwards). I cheered her on, and I wanted to cry at times. I always look forward to the next book in the series, but this one ended on a cliffhanger and really makes me anxious for the next book. I can't wait to see what this bunch manages to get into next. Bravo, Jamie!
I loved it until the end. The end seemed like it belonged in another book. The action was described, not lived thru the characters. The conclusions had no prior trail that would lead the reader to the culprits. The culprits felt throw in to give the story a new twist, but not integrated into the story.
This was good, I stayed up way to late to finish it only to become mad. Because I can't wait for the next one!! If you like Janet Evanovich, you'll love the Gotcha series. Ms. Scott is a gifted and fun writer.
This series is generally enjoyable. This particular one had a lot going on yet easily understood. Only problem for me is that I hate books that end in a cliffhanger. And for Charles this is one check of one
I enjoyed the 5th book in this entertaining series. I like the characters and the "Who done it" story lines are always good. The cliffhanger ending left me wanting the next book now!
