Like many authors, S.J. Reid leads a double life: by day, a regular human job in the regular human world, and for every other hour of the day, an avid storyteller. Her evenings and weekends are spent transforming into a dragon so that her daughter may ride around the house rescuing toys, being lovingly trailed by her always-hungry labrador and getting lost in the intricate worlds of her own fictional characters.
I can truly say S.J Reid never disappoints, her books are well written with amazing world building and story telling.
Rose is a strong badass female character much like S.J’s other FMC in her Novella (The Azmayat which you should also read!) We love badass female main characters and so does S.J.
I wanted nothing more than to dive into this world and be apart of it, the world sounds magical and the celebrations and balls I mean come on they sound beautiful and everything I want to be apart of! If you read like me and run a movie in your head as you read then this is one you absolutely need to check out.
I seriously do not think S.J Reid gets the credit she deserves for how amazing she is. I hope to read more and more books like this one by her in the future but also I need a sequel for this book stat!
The FMC Rose is sarcastic and strong-willed to a fault (which I love!) Her family is chaotic and reminded me of my own brother and sisters. Snappy and argumentative but full of love. Every single one of the characters in Rose's biological and found family would die for her, but half of them still have secrets and grudges. Nobody is perfect, everyone has a flaw and it makes them all seem so much more real.
The Pocket Worlds are all unique and described beautifully, the festivals and celebrations are typically, beautifully fantasy.
This book deserves so much more credit! It's got a Caraval/Midnight Circus level of beautiful description that makes you feel like you are in the world, like you're experiencing the balls and the celebrations. You get hooked in and can imagine the whole book playing out in your head so easily it's like watching a movie.
Every single character is slightly flawed, and Rose is no exception. She isn't hiding her power, she isn't a lost little girl who's waiting to be saved or taught the ways of the world, she's strong and determined and what's more - the men in her life know that. They aren't there to burn the world down for her, they're there to hand her the match.
A magical slow burn. Rose is chosen to take over as the next leader of the pocket worlds in the midst of a brewing war. Rose is a strong powerful lead character and I loved her relationships with Con and Jasper in particular but she has such interesting relationships with all of the characters. The magic and world building is unique and I can't wait to see where it goes in the next book.
The pocket worlds found in The Songbird Chronicles is absolutely fascinating. I love this story and I can’t wait to see what happens next! I would follow Rose into Hell if she asked me to. I really enjoyed her character, there’s something about a strong, snarky, female lead that i just can’t resist!!
I loved Rose’s relationships with Con, Jasper, Elyse, and all of her siblings. I even like Ravenwood and Jonathan. But my favorite character is probably Elodie. I could relate to her relationship with Rose, it reminded me of my relationship with my sister.
Reid created such a unique world and magic system with its various inhabitants. I was hooked from the first page! I’ll be recommending this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy with a strong FMC!!
Thank you to the author for gifting me this book!!
