Crushing on your best friend’s dad? Bad idea. Moving in with him? Even worse.

But Wyatt Mathers is unlike any dad I’ve ever he’s tattooed, owns a motorcycle, and is dangerously handsome. Oh, and he’s hell-bent on protecting me from my toxic ex.

”Poppy, the woman I vowed to keep safe. She found that safety in my arms, of all places, and in doing so, filled my home and my heart with her love.”

If you love a romance that deliciously balances a juicy forbidden narrative with an age-gap trope, then the Forbidden on Fruit Street series is an absolute must-read!

with the astronomical number of romances I’ve read in my life, I had never come across one with the best friend’s father trope at its core; and I’m weighing my words carefully when I say this novel surpassed all my expectations. I always devour Jen Morris’ books in record time because they’re genuinely impossible to put down.

In I’ll Keep Her Safe, we follow Poppy, who finds herself in need of a place to stay after her best friend and her boyfriend (aka Poppy’s roommates) land unexpected job offers across the country. feeling guilty for leaving her behind, Poppy’s best friend convinces her father, Wyatt, to take her in ; guilt-tripping him into agreeing by bringing up Poppy’s emotionally abusive ex.

I loved everything about how the romance unfolded; from Wyatt’s gruff, reluctant demeanor to the way both of them initially resisted being in such close quarters. but once the romance ignited, I couldn’t help but swoon at their love language : pure acts of service on both ends. the way they lifted each other up, communicated so openly, and found comfort in one another was just beautiful. and the sexual tension? absolute perfection.

many thanks to Book Blossom PA & the author from providing an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!

there are just no words to express how much i love this series

Fav quotes:

For years I've felt like I'm one step behind everyone around me,

"You don't have to worry about her," I assure my daughter. "As long as she's with me, she'll be fine. I'll keep her safe."

"Are you serious?" My shoulders rise innocently. "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Let me take care of you."

"This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me," I murmur into her hair, and her hands tighten on my back.

If she were mine, l'd worship her.

"You're safe with me," he murmurs.

"Poppy?" he says, as if seeking permission, and I nod. "Yes. I need it... I need it there."

"Here?" he asks roughly, checking again. "Yes," I pant. God, touch me everywhere.

"They send them for all the finalists," I say with a shrug. It's a lie. I ordered the limo the moment Bailey told me how awful Poppy's prom was.

"I'm upset that I can't kiss you-that I shouldn't have kissed you. That I can't take you home." "You are taking me home," I point out. Which is a very stupid thing to say considering everything he just told me. My brain must be short-circuiting.

"Why were we the only limo there to-night?" I ask quietly. He exhales roughly, finally meeting my gaze. "I ordered us one." My heart does a funny flip. "Why?" "Because." His head drops back on the headrest to stare at the ceiling. "Because I wanted you to have a good night. Bailey said your prom was crap and I wanted... I don't know. I wanted tonight to feel special."

"You..." I breathe, peppering kisses across his cheek. "You are the most wonderful man l've ever met."

He's so insistent with asking, checking that I'm happy with what he's doing, and it's the nicest thing. Consent is fucking hot.

"I love you in a way I didn't even know was possible."

"So what did you think?" Wyatt asks after a while. "Did you enjoy the ride?" "It was awesome." I grin. "A little scary to begin with, but... yeah. I'd definitely do it again." "Good." His eyes sparkle. "Because that's how we're getting home."

"I'm in love with you, Poppy. I don't..." He blows out a long breath. "I don't think I've ever been in love before. But I'm so in love with you, and..." I swallow. I knew he loved me, but hearing him declare it like that, so definitively, makes my pulse whip through me in exhilaration. "And what?" I whisper. "And... it makes me want to rush into this headfirst."

"It means... I'm thinking about the future. A future with you." "I think about that, too," I breathe. "Yeah?"
I nod. "A lot," I admit at last, and Wyatt's expression softens. "Me too."

"You like that?" He drives into me with a hard thrust. "You like the thought of me breeding you, pretty girl?"

"Shh," he says, a sinful smile curling along his mouth. "You need to be quiet if you want me to put a baby in you."

"Is that what you want?" His hands grip my ass as he pounds me. "You want me to fill your pretty little pussy with my cum?"

"I want to spend the rest of my life making you smile like that."

"You need to know, about what you said... I feel the same. I never dreamed I could feel as happy as I do, and I want to spend my life making you smile, too. I can't imagine anything better."

"I'll Keep Her Safe" by Jen Morris is a steamy age-gap best friend's father romance with good characters, a solid story, and some terrific spice. Morris has proven time and time again that she *knows* how to write an age-gap romance. Where other similar stories I have read like this have been cringey and awkward, Morris's feel fully fleshed-out, authentic, and captivating. Her dialogue doesn't feel childish, and the situations she puts her characters in feel realistic. I loved Poppy and Wyatt together! While their relationship felt a little convenient at first, the longer their story went on, the more I believed in, and got invested in, their romance. Wyatt has struggled with his feelings for Poppy for a long time since she is his daughter Bailey's best friend. Poppy spent her last relationship being gaslit, manipulated, and stolen from on the regular, so she doesn't want to jump into anything too serious. Wyatt doesn't want to take advantage of Poppy's healing process, but their attraction toward one another cannot be contained after Poppy moves into Wyatt's house when Bailey moves across the country with her boyfriend. This book is surprisingly emotional. I also loved the supporting cast, featuring the other couples from this series, a sweet elderly old man who lives near Wyatt, and a darling little cat that makes Wyatt a reluctant cat daddy. All in all, I found this to be an irresistible story that had me panting for more Forbidden on Fruit Street stories! I cannot wait for the next installment!

Thank you to Jen Morris for the complimentary ARC of this novel. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

I'll Keep Her Safe by Jen Morris was a standout February read and exceeded my expectations (which were already high)!

I am in love with 42 year old Wyatt - single dad to (adult) daughter Bailey, landscape company owner, motorcycle rider and vegetarian who grows his own food - basically he's got a tough, tattooed exterior with a heart of gold!

I love 25 year old Poppy - Bailey's best friend, an entrepreneurial business graduate, and fantastic cook - in short she's a fierce, fiery, and flammable redhead!

Poppy moves in with Wyatt after connecting through her best friend/his daughter and soon their forced proximity causes tensions to heat up while Poppy's toxic ex attempts to sabotage the relationship. But there's nothing to fear - Wyatt will keep her safe!

I really enjoyed that although Wyatt was older, he still had his own struggles! Poppy was able to help him heal and get over a hurtful past, while Wyatt protected her and helped her deal with her own history! They truly built each other up and brought out the best in one another!

Also: dual point of view, chemistry, and dirty talk.

I loved how this series ended with the whole Forbidden On Fruit Street cast working together (yes, this is a series, but know that these books can truly be read as standalones)!

I'll Keep Her Safe is a sexy, steamy, and hot, perfectly executed age gap!

Thank you Jen Morris for the complimentary digital ARC to read and review. Physical book purchased by myself (because of course I needed Wyatt to sit beside Kyle and Wes on my shelf)!

Really enjoyed this book! It was a super quick and fun read that left me with a smile on my face. Low angst with excellent spice. 😏 (Oh and it’s dual POV.)

I loved watching Poppy and Wyatt grow as individual characters and also together as partners throughout the story.

Can I take a moment to simp over Wyatt? A heavily tattooed vegetarian landscaper. Oh, and he’s also an amazing dad and just an all around kind person? I mean come on. 🥵

This can be read as a standalone. I have not read the other Forbidden on Fruit Street novels, but I was so smitten with this book that I now plan to read the other novels in this collection.

Thank you Jen and team for the advanced copy of this book!

This is my favourite of Jen's books so far!

I love this couple! I love that Poppy is a sexually confident FMC & I love the protective nature of Wyatt.

The spice scenes in this book ramp up from the last books in my opinion and they were HOT HOT HOT!

I really just got sucked into this story and the element of suspense with the ex just added another layer.

Bravo Jen you smashed it!

As always, with Jen Morris, this was good. I enjoyed it, not as much as the other 2 books in this series-- but I still really enjoyed it. There was a bit of breeding kink... which is so not my thing (legit, my anxiety started to creep up in that scene). There's a teeny tiny bit of butt play (on the guy), which shocked me, but it doesn't bother me at all. But I know it bothers some people (at least, when I read reviews of Tessa Baileys books, I get that sense!).

After enduring a too-long relationship with her gaslighting, thieving ex, Poppy is moving on with her life, excited about the new business venture she’s launching with her roommate and bestie when she’s informed that said bestie is moving across the country for work with her boyfriend, upending her living situation. Because her ex stole her savings from her, she’s not able to afford a new place in NYC. When her bestie arranges for her to stay with her father, Poppy reluctantly agrees, having no other option.

Landscape contractor Wyatt only found out he had a daughter when she was twelve, and he’s spent the past decade making up for the lost time together. When she asks him to put up her best friend who’s in a bad spot, he agrees but has massive reservations because he has decidedly un-fatherly thoughts toward the auburn haired curvy twenty-five year old. Living in close proximity to Poppy is sure to be exquisite torture for him.

When Poppy’s ex shows up claiming to be her current boyfriend, Wyatt is initially hands off, but quickly becomes protective of her when it becomes apparent the visit is unwelcome. Wyatt is still extremely uncomfortable with Poppy’s presence, but she does her best to chip away at the walls he’s built.

A tiny stray kitten, a sweet elderly neighborly widower, and feelings that won’t be denied conspire to draw them closer. There’s lots to like here, including steamy scenes between Poppy and her vegetarian garden whiz tatted up biker who’s got the softest, dirtiest underbelly. Poppy often acts her (much younger than Wyatt’s) age, which lends a bit of believability among some unlikely circumstances. Personally, I’m not a huge fan of large age gaps, but that’s the commonality of this series.

I was furnished an advance reader copy from the author and Book Blossom PR, and I’m sharing my honest review.

You don’t understand how feral I am for Jen’s fictional men… and now with finishing this new one, Wyatt now lives in my head rent free. Thanks Jen. 🤪

This man is so caring and so passionate, not to mention rugged and sexxxxyyyy, literally just my type of man. 😍 I think I’m in love 🤭 his dirty talk, his level of care, his attention to little things about Poppy. I’M. OBSESSED. WITH. HIM. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Poppy was a super cutie. Her crush on Wyatt (girl, me too) was adorable to watch blossom along in their story. I adored her ability to take charge when needed, but to also have tenderness for her best friend after everything hit the fan.

Lovedddd their connection and all the moments between these two, they’re absolutely so sweet together and I just love them so much. I already miss them. 🥹

This series has been amazing to read so far! I’m not sure if there will be more, but I’ll be keeping my eyes out, cause I need more age gap romances from this author. 💕

Just like all of Jen’s books this was an absolute treat!! This series is so much fun! I love now connected all the couple are!! They do live in (Forbidden) Fruit Street after all!

Wyatt and Poppy were magic! I loved their instant connection, and truly how hard they tried to fight it! They both had things to lose, mostly Bailey. But they also had A LOT to gain! And it was so sweet to see all things that came to be once they started supporting each other!! And just like the others in the series the age gap is also written SO WELL. Yes they talk about it a lot, because they know it’s taboo and forbidden. But the couple is always at the exact right place in their lives to be with the other!

I do like the tension and the high risk part of these books! Don’t get me wrong, Poppy’s ex is the actual worst, and I was a little nervous it was going to go another way, but it didn’t!! And then sneaking around and trying to hide it from Bailey was frustrating, because that part always is no matter the story. But I just think the way Jen writes it is always done so well!!

I cannot wait for whatever is next from Jen!!

I am so so thankful to Jen Morris and Book Blossom for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I only recently started reading the Fruit Street books at the end of 2024, but I love they way Jen Morris is able to make the characters feel real and give them personality traits that are more than simple tropes.

This book was similar to her others in the series - age gap, older man who fell quick, woman in her 20s with goals and ambitions, amazing chemistry, and great spice. I highly recommend this book if you liked her others and if you want characters that exist beyond the tropes. :)

There are too many inconsistencies for me to enjoy. I loved the concept, though.

SPOLIERS BELOW

Example:
MMC was allowing FMC to live with him because her ex had stalker tendencies. Yet when he caught a guy watching the house, he asked if there was something he needed. The guy obviously lies, and MMC allowed him in the house to deliver flowers.
Then FMC showed up and froze because hello stalkerrrrrr. Anyways MMC was upset he thought she had a BF and booked it upstairs. Leaving her alone with stalker.
He called his daughter to let her know FMC was fine and with her boyfriend when the daughter freaked out. "Dad, that's the stalker." So, he proceeded to question his daughter about FMCs relationship with Stalker(3 pages) INSTEAD OF RUSHING TO SAVE HER.

He even thought to himself
"... I wonder if I should go back down and ask him to leave."
*******Yes dumbass he is a manipulative asshole of course save her.*****

HE HAD NO SENSE OF URGENCY WHAT SO EVER.
"OH, IT'S HER STALKER PLEASE TELL ME ABOUT THEIR RELATIONSHIP WHILE HE HARASSES HER "

MMC brought a dirty, hungry stray home and plopped it on the counter where she was cooking. 🤮🤮 They proceeded to feed the cat eggs and hold it while they were eating. Then he sets it on his shoulder while washing dishes!
***The author couldn't put a cute scene of them washing it or something**

MMC is a landscaper, and during one scene, he pulls a muscle in his back. He walks in the door dirty/sweaty and sits on the motherfucking couch. Of course, FMC helps him put so ointment on his back enjoying the feel of his soft skin.
Nah, cause I've worked outside in the heat. You get gritty and nasty, not to mention the s0mell cause no deodorant isn't that good.

The MMC takes a bath to soothe his muscles while FMC plays with kitty in bed. She hears to water sloshing in the bath butttttt while he was showing her too her room earlier. It seemed like the rooms weren't close.

" Mr. Mathers turns at the top of the stairs, leading me along the landing to the bedroom facing out over the street."
“I’ll leave you to unpack. Bathroom is at the top of the stairs."

FMC got cramps, and MMC took care of her. He gave her a foot rub that got them both hot, but a cramp in her abdomen brought her thoughts back to the show they were watching.

She got fired from her new cafe job because somebody(ex) complained about her, and the boss didn't want him to go to social media about it.

I really enjoy Jen Morris’s romances and I think this might be my next fave in the series after the first book!

She’s got a great knack for dialogue, making her characters feel real and mature, and the spice is both sweet and naughty.

I absolutely loved the set-up and start of this book, the forced proximity and themes of following your passion were an excellent way for our couple to get to know each other and explore their growing attraction.

I also really appreciate the emotional depth and the way these books lack excessive angst and miscommunication tropes and I will definitely be reading more books in this series!

DNF at 31%. Minor spoilers up to that point.

I don’t enjoy how lusty these two are, they’ve met twice and were essentially checking each other out the times they met before and almost every single thought they have is about the other’s body. It’s a LOT.

Also, I didn’t appreciate the dumb way the MMC reacted to the abusive ex showing up at the house. He knew she had an abusive ex and there was NO mention of a boyfriend. Yet when this stranger shows up and says “yeah, I’m her boyfriend.” He just lets the guy into the house?? And then when he calls Bailey and mentions it, she says it’s FMC’s ex…. He continues to talk to Bailey for a good like 10 Minutes before going downstairs to save the FMC. ☠️ how dumb are you dude?

And I can’t remember if the other one was this bad with this but they keep… going over scenes in each other’s chapters. Like something happens in HIS chapter and in HER chapter, she needs to comment on it and tell us about it like we didn’t just read it. 😐

Overall I’m very tired of these two. So I’m out.

This is the third book in the Forbidden on Fruit Street series and it's another steamy, age-gap romance. This time it's between Wyatt and Poppy. Wyatt is the father of Bailey-- Poppy's best friend. When Bailey accepts a job across the country it leaves Poppy without a place to live. Bailey coerces Wyatt into letting Poppy stay with him. He accepts, even though he has his reservations since he has been attracted to Poppy. And-she is seventeen years his junior.

Even with the age difference, it is clear that Wyatt and Poppy are meant to be. They both know that their being together could end badly for them with Bailey. They are both mature enough to talk it through, though. I loved when Wyatt realized that life is short, and this is his chance at love and a family. He never had that with Bailey, since she came into his life when she was already twelve years old.

Besides hiding their relationship from Bailey, they also have to deal with Poppy's toxic ex, Kurt. I'm glad he was handled in the way he was.

Another wonderful book in this series.

Thank you to the author for an advanced readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ll Keep Her Safe is the 3rd book in Jen Morris’ Forbidden on Fruit Street Series. All three books have focused on a forbidden trope. She’s already covered Dad’s best friend and ex-boyfriend’s dad. This time it’s the FMC’s best friend’s dad. All three have an age gap where the MMC is a bit older, but the FMCs are all 25+, so they’re all old enough to know what they’re doing. Everything is completely consensual.

I’ve really enjoyed this series and this one makes no exception. Jen does age gap well and she does emotional journeys and growth well. All of her MMCs have been super swoony as well. I also loved seeing characters from past books.

Read, if you enjoy:

🍋 Forbidden Romance
🍋 Age Gaps
🍋 Tattoos and Motorcycles
🍋 Reluctant Cat Dads
🍋 Caretaker Micro Trope
🍋 Lots of Feels
🍋 He's got a bit of a breeding kink
🍋 No 3rd Act Breakup
🍋 Dirty Talk
🍋 Gardening

Thank you to Jen for the ARC. I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

You've just graduated and are about to start your own business with your roommate/best friend. Except she's suddenly taken a job across the country, leaving you in the lurch to not only start the business yourself, but find a new place to live. Fortunately she's found you a place she deems safe from your toxic ex- her father's home. Safe is such a relative term when he happens to be someone you have always had a secret crush on.

Thank you to the author for the complimentary ARC. All opinions are my own and given freely.

I'll Keep Her Safe is such a heartwarming read. It has all the yearning tension vibes you look for in a forbidden romance. While also just being really sweet. Both characters are super likable, even grumpy Wyatt. But it heats up nicely too. I feel like the shared bathroom mention was a missed opportunity, but the sneaking around sure made up for it. I didn't hate the splash of a breeding kink either. This story has steam, but it focuses heavily on their emotional connection and supporting one another. It's quite insta- but when you know, you know- and I adored them together. I didn't love the ex storyline, but I did enjoy the care and safety Wyatt brought for Poppy. It was a quick light read (being without a third act breakup) that I think many will enjoy!

There were some elements I really liked. Mainly, how supportive and encouraging of each other Poppy and Wyatt were. They saw each other’s dreams and happily supported each other in pursuing them.

BUT!

The writing was flat and came across as very amateur (I’m sorry, I don’t know of another way to say it!). Poppy and Wyatt didn’t have the build up, relationship wise, I was hoping for. What we got was kinda…rushed, and it felt like it lacked depth. Wyatt didn’t read like a guy in his forties either 🫤

And honestly? Wyatt didn’t keep her safe 🙄

He was an idiot, letting Kurt into the house when he KNEW Poppy had a toxic ex hounding her! Like, wtf man?

The ‘conclusion’ of the conflict with Kurt was so awful too. All that, and they blackmail him and have a stern conversation? A guy that toxic isn’t gonna turn around and up the ante?

Just seemed way too convenient, way too easy 🤷🏼‍♀️ and it didn’t leave me feeling satisfied at all 🫤

Needless to say Morris’s writing isn’t for me! 🫤

Rounded up to 4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book and loved Wyatt and Poppy despite the age gap and taboo of her being with her best friend's dad. The chemistry between them was sizzling and they just really worked. I despised Kurt, Poppy's toxic ex and loved that she eventually stood up for herself, found a good man and pursued the career that made her happy.

Best friend's dad trope.

I enjoy how Jen Morris handles these tropes that can easily be icky. The progression of the relationship between Poppy and Wyatt, while incredibly fast, was natural.
Of course there were some aspects that were a tad far-fetched and the ex boyfriend storyline was a bit much at times, but all in all, I enjoyed this one.

Definitely my favorite of this series so far. This one was SO hot. I’m obsessed with this couple and how they lifted each other up constantly. Poppy and Wyatt are everything 😭 the age gap was fantastic - 25 & 42? Yeeeeees. Also, a tatted motorcycle riding gardener? Couldn’t have written a more perfect hero if you tried. The third Fruit Street series book was another, dual POV, forbidden, age gap romance full of spice, emotional depth and lots great found family. I loved Poppy and Wyatt and how they want the best for the other even if it means going behind Wyatt's daughter and Poppy's best friend, Bailey's back. Set in Brooklyn, it can work as a standalone but I recommend reading the others in the series.

There's also a significant toxic ex component, where Poppy is trying to recover and escape from her narcissistic ex who gaslit, belittled and stole from her. When he continues to stalk her and gets her fired from her job, she eventually finds a way to stand up for herself with a little help from her new friends (aka the other Fruit Street couples).

Read this if you like sweet, big-hearted redheads who love to cook, grumpy, tattooed former bad boy single dads who are secretly cinnamon rolls with a love of gardening, motorcycles and kittens. Equally steamy and heartfelt, this was another really fun read and I'll be sad to say goodbye to this series if this turns out to be the last book.

A grumpy, tattooed, motorcycle riding landscaper who loves gardening? Poppy truly did not stand a chance. Sorry Bailey. Your dad’s hot and you set up this little forced proximity situation so you have no one to blame but yourself!

It’s time for another forbidden romance on Fruit Street, and it’s a fun one! Poppy and Wyatt are so sweet together and I was rooting for them the entire time. They both encourage each other to follow their dreams, and isn’t it just a delightful coincidence that they have some overlap? Also, the man brought her a kitten and idk if there’s anything hotter…except maybe his nipple ring 😏

These two are so sweet together, and I had a great time. I can’t wait to see what happens next on Fruit Street!
