I was so fortunate to BETA read as well as ARC read this for Beth & I absolutely love it!! The world she has created in Howling Forest of pack life & it’s possessive male wolf shifters is just so good!!
Killian, 10yrs after his 25th where he learned of his mate’s name, he finally catches her scent but it’s not quite the smooth sailing he imagined. Freya being a Valkyrie (from a solely female community in Sweden), isn’t used to life with males though she can’t deny their connection. So, he joins her on a quest to retrieve a coveted codex & things develop...
It’s actually quite sweet to see a smitten but also a little cock sure Killian, come to the realisation that his mate is not only pretty self sufficient & independent but also a formidable warrior. Equally, how Freya’s determination to achieve her goal alone slowly changes as they get to know one another. Their dynamic is just *chefs 💋.
Highly recommend this series!! Also available is Book 1: Searching for Sabine & the prequel novella: Enchanting Elaine. Go take a look & get familiar with Beth’s characters!!
If there is criticism for Beth DeWeese I am on the front line fighting it cause WHAT DO YOU MEAN??
Okay so for tropes this one has wolf shifters, valkyrie, fated mates, international travel, found family, and he falls first & harder. Smut was 2.5/5 on the spice scale, and its a HEA in a series of interconnected standalones.
The plot of this book is one I am so so glad I got to reread. I beta read this book FOREVER ago, and I was waiting for the changes and edits to be made so I could reread it. Searching For Sabine (book 1 in this series) was amazing, but then we get the intrigue of the plot of this book, going on a chase/hunt, tracking an ancient manuscript down, add to that the chaos and devotion that comes with wolf shifters? I am a goner. I am seated for the whole thing.
Look I devoured this book in just under 2 hours. It is one of those books where you just HAVE to keep reading. You want to keep reading about the dynamic between the two MC’s, searching for answers alongside the characters and (bonus here) if you read Sabine first, we get glimpses of the two MC’s of that book throughout! For me this series tops the wolf shifter genre, I have never devoured a wolf shifter series ever in 3 years.
What a fabulous follow-up book to Searching for Sabine. Killian has been looking for his mate for 10 long years and it's wearing on him, especially now with his best friend Declan near mated and happy. Freya, a Valkarie, was raised in their stronghold in Kungsbacka, far from the Howling Forrest in Tennessee, and nowhere Killian would have dreamed to search. She had visions, though, that sent her on a mission to find and retrieve the Svensson Codex. First stop, you guest it, the Howling Forest. There initial meeting was funny, though I doubt they thought so, as it ended rather ckimacticly. It was, however, nothing compaired to how their second meeting ended. Killian was going to need to put a chain on that girl... when he found her again! His major concern, getting his mate to reciprocate his feelings. Freya's primary mission, that was still the codex (sorry Killian).
This book is a mixture of action, suspence, mystery and romance. The various genre's blend to produce a riveting and intriguing slow-burn story of developing love, trust, teamwork, and faith in another person. Freya has never felt supported with her sisters, as she doesn't favor traditional Valkyrie roles, so this adventure is new to her in more aspects than simply the mission or geography. Figuring out her feelings toward Killian is another issue all together, and one she repeatedly puts on delay. When/If they get the Codex, she'll think about it then... well, maybe. Follow this pair as they go on this twisted adventure.
I was fortunate to receive a gift copy of this book and voluntarily provided this review. While not necessary, I suggest reading Searching For Sabine first (if you plan to at all) to avoid spoilers and better understand some small nuances. Again, it's not mandatory as this book is understandable as a standalone. (Just a recommendation.) Happy Reading Y'all📚
Finding Freya is a supernatural romance with a twist.
The magical treasure hunt and global settings, gave the story an adventurous spark I’d like to have delved more into.
Freya, a Valkyrie with psychometric powers, and Killian, the steadfast wolf shifter, are an intriguing match. While I liked the setup and initial storyline, I found myself wanting more emotional depth between them, the connection felt a little surface-level at times, and I didn’t fully fall for the romance the way I’d hoped.
Some of the writing felt a bit stiff, with repeated phrasing and wording that slowed the pace in places. I also would’ve loved a touch more world-building honestly, there’s a rich, magical world here, but it’s only lightly sketched. A bit more detail would’ve helped immerse me in the setting and added more weight to the story overall. I don’t need a huge amount of detail but I found myself struggling to picture things at times.
That said, it’s a fun, creative read with a lot of heart, and I can definitely see it appealing to fans of magical romance and fated mates stories. It just didn’t quite click for me emotionally, but I’ll be keeping an eye on this series and I’ll likely read future instalments!
Would definitely read a book about Jimmy, he seems like an interesting character I hope we see more of!
Thank you to Beth for this gifted ebook. These opinions are my own.
I loved this story. Shifter romances are a favorite and stories with fated mates. Freya is a Valkyrie and not ready for this change in lifestyle. Killian is a wold shifter who has been waiting a long time for his mate.
Freya’s life as a Valkyrie meant isolation among her fellow Valkyries with little to no need for men. So of course she is hesitant to acknowledge the mate bond with Killian. This was a really cute story to read about them navigating the changes and sacrifices that would need to be made for them to be together. This started with the journey to find the important manuscript for Freya and goes on from there.
There is just enough spice that doesn’t take away from the story. And not really insta love since they had to work for it a little bit.
We also see characters from the prequel novella and book one of this series. I am loving that although the love story with this couple has its HEA, there is a bigger story being told through these books. I definitely look forward to the next one. I have an inkling who the couple might be but we’ll see! Great job Beth!
Let's go back to Howling Forest, Tennessee! In Beth DeWeese's newest book in this wolf shifter series, we meet Freya and Killian (who has been searching for her for a decade). This story builds on the magical world Beth has already written for readers in the series novella and book 1. We see familiar faces and Beth continues her wonderful world building and character development.
Freya is a Valkyrie! So there is no surprise that she's not actually interested in being found. This twist on fated mates is fun and refreshing. She's a strong woman who is actually finding herself. Killian is just really along for the non-stop adventure and journey that Fate has in store for him.
If you are ready for a fantastical love story filled with strong women, family, friends, adventure, and a twist on Fate, get this book!
Wow! I love this story! The second book in the Howling Forest series and Beth DeWeese definitely did not disappoint! I was hooked from the first page to the very last word. Beth brilliantly weaves her world building beautifully blending creativity and magic throughout the story. There is adventure, action, romance, twists, turns and surprises throughout the story that will keep you turning pages to see what happens next. Her characters are well developed with fantastic growth throughout the story. And the chemistry between Killian and Freya sizzles. I absolutely highly recommend reading this book!
This is the 2nd book in the Howling Forest Shifters series by Beth DeWeese and this is Freya (Valkyrie with psychometric powers/fated mate) and Killian (enforcer for the Tobin wolfpack/wolf shifter) story. They meet when she is chasing an ancient manuscript while he is trying to find his fated mate, having said that they are most definitely an intriguing match. How their story develops, just sit back and read to find out. You won't be disappointed! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Love this story of mates with intrigue and challenges to overcome. It’s interesting following the complexities of relationships it’s far more interesting with fantasy/supernatural genre. I did feel some humour at some of the antics which is nice and unexpected I don’t think I’ve read many other pack life stories with humour so was a nice feeling. I definitely enjoyed this second book in series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was an amazing read! I was very impressed with the characters and the way there book was wrote It was a quick read and i could not put it down. This is the first book by this author i have read and look forward to many more.
I enjoyed Finding Freya as much as other of Beth's books. She never misses! I really liked Freya's and Killian's story and can't wait to see more of this world ☺️
I got to Beta read for this and was so excited to be able to ARC read as well!!! Killian and Freya are still amazing and loved a wolf shifter Valkyrie romance!
