I mostly enjoyed this book. It has a lot of good information. However… Tom has laced throughout his book a lot of political opinions. He should have used examples from across all parties. He clearly has a deep bias against President Trump and conservatism. It’s sad that he uses such a good book to push his left leaning agenda on people.
Given that he is writing about ‘persuasion’ and ‘subconscious manipulation’, it seems like he is attempting to use those techniques through his writings to affect the minds of his readers.
I am disappointed in this subtle/not-so-subtle use of his platform.
I loved this book so much! It was such a powerful read. I am unfortunately someone who tends to be easily influenced, so just being able to sit with this book has already helped me feel more grounded and aware. It’s been so empowering and has really boosted my confidence. I found the work Tom recommends absolutely fascinating. It got me thinking, reflecting, and really listening. I honestly feel like this is going to change my life. I’d recommend it to anyone who has been hurt by others in the past or even just anyone needing a reminder of their own strength.
This book is very eye opening in how you view the world and ourselves. Influence and manipulation is everywhere in our daily lives, especially as technology continues to evolve. It definitely makes you question if free will truly exists in today’s society. In this book, you will learn that manipulation and influence is not a negative thing that everyone perceives it to be. But the person using these tools, may use it for guidance or control over others. Humans are driven by emotional decisions not logical driven decisions.
No finish date because I couldn't get through it. Short version; you have no agency in life until and unless you read this book and become aware of marketers, politicians, sales peoples attempts to influence your behavior. Repetitive, tedious, and one dimensional.
