McMinnville Police Department Officer Matt Reynolds and Doctor Chelsea Eidmen are no strangers to epic disappointments. Using their shared history, author Jacqueline Adam shows how second chances for Chelsea and Matt arose from experiences that required their united efforts to overcome.

This is a fantastic story that models for us how to respond when things don’t turn out as expected, how to deal with someone who betrays you, and how to cope with the realization that you’ve been lied to for years. We all face disappointments, perhaps not on the scale that Chelsea experienced, but we could all do with guidance on strategies to overcome them. I appreciated seeing how the trauma reinforced what the characters valued, how they didn’t let it set them up for failure, and how it made them more resilient and adaptable.

I was hesitant at first to read a book with child kidnapping, especially one by a new-to-me author. I’m here to tell you that it isn’t the main focus, it isn’t told from Lynelle’s point of view, there is no harm done to the child, and a caring adult accompanies her at all times. The event is simply to show the cost of a mistake and its unforeseen ripples, increase the tension and leverage, and upset the balance between characters.

I think the two things that will stay with me the most are (1) knowing that Matt was on a two-week staycation when he voluntarily became part of the trauma. He had more than one reason not to get involved, yet he stepped up to the plate and did what was right. We could all do with role models like Matt. And (2) noticing that evil attacks when we least expect it. Letting our guard down, even when practicing self-care, gives the enemy a foothold.

I will definitely be searching out this author’s backlist as I enjoyed this romantic suspense.

I won this copy in a newsletter giveaway by the author and was under no obligation to provide a review.

This book had me hooked from the very first page!

As if grieving the loss of her husband wasn’t hard enough, Dr. Chelsea Eidman is also trying to come to terms with a shocking truth...her late husband had been living a secret life as a diamond thief. Now, everyone from law enforcement to mob bosses, accomplices, and relentless reporters believes Chelsea knows where the missing diamonds are. The problem is, she has no idea!

When her close friend and daughter are kidnapped, Chelsea is forced to work with her childhood friend Matt, whose sister has also been taken. As time runs out, they must work together to uncover the truth, find the diamonds, and save their loved ones.

The romance was incredibly sweet and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. I only wish there had been a little more time spent with the couple at the end. Still, this was a wonderful read and I look forward to reading more books by Jacqueline.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. This review reflects my honest opinion.

This book is a non-stop, action-packed roller coaster ride, leaving you wondering what will happen next. It had one twist and turn after another, causing Chelsea and Matt to think quickly. There are strange attacks on Chelsea's life, and she is faced with dealing with secrets, kidnapping, and eventually forgiveness. It's a tough change of events, and Chelsea doesn't feel she can pray.

The descriptions of the Rogue River and the surrounding area brought the story to life. The river scenes were quite intense.

The main characters had numerous layers and a multitude of changes to work through. I found them to be inspiring and, at times, courageous. The second-chance romance was sweet, and the ending wrapped things up nicely. Highly recommended.

The author has excelled in developing her setting and characters along with the creation of an intricate plot. The riveting action scenes, surprising revelations, and strong faith thread contribute to making this one of my favorite romantic suspense stories of 2025 . . .

Dr. Chelsea Eidman has worked hard to recover from the shock and trauma of her husband's death a little more than a year before, but her fear and panic are reignited when one of her husband's cold-hearted partners in crime attacks her.

Chelsea's main concern, however, is the safety of her four-year-old daughter, Lynelle. Protecting her little girl from the evil assailants pursuing them is uppermost in her mind, and she will do whatever she must to prevent her daughter from being kidnapped by these men.

Her next-door neighbor, Matt Reynolds, is a police officer. He's the older brother of her best friend in high school, Gabby. He quickly becomes involved in the current drama Chelsea and Lynelle are experiencing, and he is dedicated to keeping the woman and her young child safe.

I enjoyed the many twists and turns of this unique, complex, tense mystery. I was amazed at the number of times that Matt used his training, razor-sharp thinking, and sheer will to work through dangerous situations.

The faith thread in this book is strong and well-defined. The book is completely clean in language and content.

I received a copy of this book through JustRead Publicity Tours. All of my opinions and thoughts shared here are solely my own.

This is a fast-paced story filled with kidnappings (obviously), the mob, a deceased husband who still seems to be around in an eerie way, and a mother’s fierce love. Chelsea’s fear and desperation to get her daughter, Lynelle, back felt real. She often put on a brave face but you could hear her thoughts wavering at times. Matt made an excellent cop and hero. He was better able to put his emotions aside to stay focused on protecting Chelsea and getting Lynelle back. The two of them made a good team, and while the romance was very subtle, it fit the story. With so many twists and so much action, a stronger romantic thread might have felt out of place.

The pacing moved quickly, keeping the tension high all the way through. I especially appreciated the faith reminder that it is never too late to turn to God, even when you have not been on speaking terms with Him for a while. The story itself felt a little far-fetched at times, but it still offered plenty of excitement and heart. Fans of high-stakes suspense with a touch of faith and subtle romance may enjoy this intense, action-filled read.

**ARC REVIEW**

Kidnapped for Ransom is my first read by Jacqueline Adam, and it definitely won’t be my last! This story hooked me from the very first page—the action starts immediately and never lets up. The pacing is tight, the suspense keeps building, and there were plenty of twists I didn’t see coming.

The balance between the romance and the danger was spot on. The second-chance romance between Chelsea and Matt felt natural and heartfelt, and I loved watching their connection grow as they fought to survive. The ending was satisfying and tied everything together perfectly.

I also appreciated the Christian elements woven seamlessly throughout the story — the themes of faith, prayer, and forgiveness felt genuine rather than preachy. Definitely a must-read!

Thank you to Jacqueline Adam and Hayling BookStorm for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is a heart-pounding adventure that does not let up, even until the very last page. Jacqueline Adam is back with a thrilling chase that traverses multiple terrains and settings, taking readers along on an escape that makes you reticent to stop reading. Fighting for her survival along with her daughter's, Dr. Chelsea Eidman is tossed into confusion and horrifying circumstances, setting off the chase of her lifetime as she deals with the aftermath of a failed diamond heist. Along the way, a police officer from her youth is part of the picture, causing Chelsea's emotions to be all over the map.

I love that Matt not only provides physical protection for Chelsea but that he cares enough for her to lead her spiritually as well. By praying for her and encouraging her to give her burdens to God, they are able to work together as a team to overcome the constant threats that barrage them at every corner. Readers who enjoy high-stakes suspense with twists and turns will appreciate seeing how, through God's help and their relentless pursuit of their loved ones, Matt and Chelsea discover what it means to recover lost treasure.

Hang on!

Right from the first words, there are bad guys, danger, betrayal, and fear. Matt and Chelsea fight for their lives the entire way. Add in the danger for Gabby and Lynelle and there is even more at stake.

Chelsea not only fights for freedom from the past, but she also is discovering anew that God really cares for her, even after she turned away from Him. He doesn’t let His child go! Matt starts out as a protective friend but becomes her anchor and encourager. They learn to trust each other again. Theirs is a happy ending.

I enjoyed the book. I received a complimentary copy and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.

what a wild ride!

chelsea eidman never expected to be involved with stolen diamonds and the albanian mob... but when her late husband's past comes calling and her daughter's life is on the line, she'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe, along with an old friend (and police officer) matt reynolds, trying to help her navigate the danger...

kidnapped for ransom offers plenty of secrets, betrayals, and discoveries, as chelsea and matt end up on quite the adventure. it's definitely a nightmare of a situation, and on top of everything else, chelsea can't help wrestling with her love for her late husband, as well as her relationship with God. matt proves to be a support amidst the chaos, and i enjoyed seeing them work through it all together.

readers in need of a quick, action-paced romantic-suspense read, definitely check out kidnapped for ransom!

(i received a complimentary copy from the author and/or publisher. i was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions i have expressed are my own.)

considerations:
—language: none
—spice: kisses only
—faith: mentions of God, church, and prayer
—content: violence, kidnapping, the mob, drugs, mentions of loss of spouse

I received this book as an ARC with no expectation of a positive review. Wow! This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Adams. It is so good that I read it in two seating only due to being so tired that I had to close my eyes to sleep. What happens when your life and the life of your innocent four year old daughter is upended when you find out your late husband is a jewel thief? The last job your husband was connected to was a jeweler tied to the Albanian mob. This is a wild ride that will keep you turning the pages. It is so good. It is a must read for all romantic suspense fans.

Imagine finding out that your late husband wasn’t who you thought he was, and to make matters worse, you and your child are in danger because of his actions. That’s the predicament in which Dr. Chelsea Eidman finds herself 16 months after her husband’s death. Chelsea and her 4 year old daughter are in the mob’s sights because her husband was part of a diamond heist, and those diamonds belonged to the Albanian mob. When Chelsea’s daughter is kidnapped, Matt, an old friend, steps in to help. He’s especially invested in this kidnapping because his pregnant sister was taken as well.

I really enjoyed Kidnapped for Ransom’s fast-moving plot, and it had me up past bedtime! Having a deadline to find the diamonds, get them to the “bad guys,” try to keep the FBI informed without anyone finding out, and being chased through the forest kept me turning the pages!

The characters were very realistic, and I enjoyed the second chance, friends to more tropes. The slow burn romance was sweet, and I liked that the author acknowledged the fact that Chelsea and her late husband had really loved each other in spite of his flaws (which Chelsea only found out about later).

Chelsea reclaimed her lost faith in God while searching for her daughter and the diamonds. It was through Matt’s prayers and reassurances of God’s love that she was able to do so. I think Love Inspired Suspense lovers will really like this book, and I recommend it!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

This is a good romantic suspense read. Chelsea's ex got into trouble with the Albanian mob. He was killed without paying them back and without telling her anything about it. She moves to her aunt's house next story to Matt whose sister she hung with as a kid. When Chelsea's daughter is kidnapped, Matt, who is with the police, helps her. Things get interesting from there.

This book had me on my toes it was full of twists and turns that kept me guessing. Just when I thought I had something figured out it turned out that I didn't. The only thing I wish is there was more time spent on the couple themselves but overall the book was great it was a pretty good suspenseful romance.

I could not put this book down! The suspense that oozed from this book was so exhilarating. I couldn’t imagine having my child kidnapped while I go Diamond hunting for the kidnapper!

This book did have undertones of Christianity/religious beliefs. Moments of prayer and a few bible verses. It consisted of maybe 5% in total of the book.

I could definitely see this being a Lifetime movie!

KIDNAPPED FOR RANSOM by Jacqueline Adam is the spell-bounding story of Doctor Chelsea Eidman. With the murder of her husband, she finds out everything about her marriage was a lie. Sixteen months later, just when she thinks she’s making peace with the past, trouble comes visiting. Her daughter becomes a pawn in a dangerous game of missing gems with the Albanian mob, who seems to have her in check. When Police Officer Matt Reynold’s sister was kidnapped too, they will do anything to get Lynelle and Gabby back safely. Will they be in time!

When Peter was murdered, Chelsea was completely blindsided with his past life and crimes. Since then, she’s been under suspicion from the press to the law enforcement that she had been knowledgeable of his recent crime of stealing the now missing diamonds worth a half-million-dollars. With the court’s permission, she came to her aunt’s farmhouse in McMinnville to oversee repairs in order to sell. After putting four-year-old Lynelle to bed, there was a home invasion. If not for Matt living next door and hearing her scream, she can’t think about what might have happened. Blessedly Lynelle slept through it all. Hearing the demands for the diamonds from the intruder was the first time she’d heard of the missing diamonds, but it sure won’t be her last!

Matt had always thought highly of Edna. It was a natural for him to keep seeing to things after her death when Chelsea asked him. He’d always had a soft spot in his heart for Chelsea. Even when he found out their first kiss had been on a dare from his sister. But lesson learned. He will keep his heart guarded when she shows up in town. Finding her in danger, it’s become his professional duty to keep her safe – isn’t it? He’s on vacation, but when Special Agent Vic Anand asked for help on the case, he knows his vacation is on hold. Is it possible that someone you know could have changed that much or are suspicious rumors just that – rumors? When his pregnant sister is kidnapped along with Lynelle, his need to help Chelsea is amped up even more!

Will a letter from her dead husband play with Chelsea’s mind? Will it help lead them to the missing diamonds? Why is all this happening now – after sixteen-months? Does Peter’s ex-partner have his own agenda? When Alek gives them a time limit, which he seems to keep shortening, will there be enough time to find the diamonds? Will past feeling as teenagers re-emerge proving that Chelsea’s heart hasn’t permanently shut down?

KIDNAPPED FOR RANSOM is a read-in-one-sitting, edge-of-your-seat, FIVE STAR story! Jacqueline Adam gives us a story of suspense, family, forgiveness, danger, risks, romance, courage and wraps it all in a fabulous thread of faith. I highly recommend KIDNAPPED FOR RANSOM to everyone!

I receive an ARC of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own.

Kidnapped for Ransom is written by Jacqueline Adam. This is a new to me author, but I will be looking forward to reading upcoming releases going forward. This is a Love Inspired Suspense book - so you can count on heart pounding action, lots of suspense, faith filled love, and the reminder that no matter how far you've run from God, you can always come back.

Doctor Chelsea Eidman has been disgraced. When her husband, Peter dies she finds out he has been living a secret life. He is a diamond thief. One of his last big jobs was a big one - and everyone thinks that she has the missing diamonds. She has been trying so hard to clear her name. She goes to her aunt's home where she spent many of summers - and is helping it get ready to sell when she runs into her old childhood friend, Matt Reynolds. Matt is also a McMinnville Police Officer. His sister, Gabby is also in law enforcement and was Chelsea's best friend growing up.

Chelsea hopes to hide out while she works to clear her name, but her husband's old partner, finds her and promises to end her if he does not get the diamonds. Factor in that that Peter and Ian are in a mess with the Albanian mob... Suddenly Gabby and Chelsea's daughter, Lynelle are kidnapped.

This book starts off with so much heart pounding action. I read this book all in one sitting because I had to know what happened. I really loved the characters. Chelsea was clueless about her deceased husband's shenanigans. She just wants to keep her daughter safe.

This book is well written, and the storyline is engaging. I hope to read more from this author. Thank you to the author, publisher and JustRead Publicity Tours for allowing me to read a copy of this book - all thoughts are my own.

Kidnapped for Ransom was a an amazing, fast paced, edge of your seat thriller. I devoured this and couldn't put it down.
I'm a sucker for thrillers, but I think as a parent, reading about a child being held hostage and putting yourself in the main characters shoes, it gives the story an extra sense of fear. It leaves you wondering if the main character is making the best decisions or if she's being too risky and putting her own child's life in danger.
Chelsea is a doctor who is grieving the loss of her husband, but also, somewhat in hiding. Because upon her husbands' death, she learns that he committed a crime. He pulled off a diamond heist, but lost his life and now Chelsea and her daughter is paying the price. The diamonds that he stole belonged to a mobster who now has Chelsea's daughter in exchange for the diamonds. The only way Chelsea can recover the diamonds is by following letters with riddles left by her husband to help her locate where he hid them. All this while her husbands' accomplice that blackmailed him into the heist in the first place is also after her for the diamonds. Her only help is Matt who is an officer, but had also been a friend and even a crush when they were teens. But Matt's assistance also comes at a price.
I loved the pacing of the story. It kept me hooked. Also, not related to the story, but I think Anand is such a unique , out of the box name. It's also my dad's name. So imagine my surprise when detective Anand enters the story. It made me love the story that much more. The characters are all so relatable and well developed.
This was great. I have never read anything by Jacqueline Adam before, but I am definitely a fan of her writing now!

Kidnapped for Ransom is a wonderful high-suspense novel that you’re not going to be able to put down! Trust me on this one! I love a good novel that makes you sit on the edge of your seat and look over your shoulder. But as a mom, this book definitely hit different because what if my daughter were kidnapped? What would I do to save her? What would I be willing to sacrifice? I can tell you that I’d sacrifice everything!

This book definitely made me think. How well do we know people? Do they have secrets hidden from us? And do we hide some of our true selves from them?

Evil is all around us. We can’t hide from it. And when it seeks us out, we have a choice to make. Do we choose to fight the evil or let it win? Matt and Chelsea are choosing to fight the evil and save their loved ones. But it’s not going to be an easy journey.

I loved watching them reconnect and learn about each other because they have both changed, obviously, as they’ve grown up. Once upon a time, they were in love, but life happened, and things changed. And now they’re back together, but circumstances are less than ideal.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from JustRead Publicity Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. “Love doesn’t need to make sense. That’s the beautiful thing about it. Sometimes, love just is.”

This childhood friends, second-chance romance has forced proximity, faith, danger, and tons of suspense. I couldn’t put the book down. The story is very intense, with danger coming at the MCs (and their families) from multiple sides.

Chelsea is brave and determined. I loved her fierce love of her daughter. Her strength in light of the truth of her late husband’s past and her bravery in facing the consequences of that past were incredible. I loved that through Matt’s tender strength and encouragement Chelsea found her faith in God again. I also enjoyed her journey to trust and forgiveness. Matt is intelligent and protective. I enjoyed his quick thinking and how he adjusted his plans as the danger came to try to keep Lynelle, Gabby, Chelsea, and himself safe. I loved how his determination to guard his heart from Chelsea slowly melted. I loved their romance, especially that it built slowly as they trusted and depended on each other to survive from situation to situation.

A few more quotes:
“You want to check me out?” “Your injuries. I want to check out your injuries. You know what I meant.” “I do, but I couldn’t resist.”

“You must be getting tired of chasing after me.” “Never.”

This book was a giveaway prize from the author. I was not required to give a positive review, rating and opinions are my own.

3.5 stars!
Kidnapped for Ransom is the first book I’ve read by Jacqueline Adam. This is a fast paced story filled with high stakes and thrilling adventure.

Chelsea is trying to get her life back to normal after her late husband’s criminal activity, but she’s thrown into danger when her daughter is kidnapped by dangerous men. She reconnects with a childhood friend, Officer Matt, to help rescue her daughter.

Matt is a courageous cop who was initially assigned to spy on Chelsea to learn what she knew about her husband’s criminal life. He soon becomes involved in the rescue mission and shares his hope in Jesus with Chelsea, encouraging her to trust God and pray. I liked that he always put God first in his decision-making.

The romance is light, as an old friendship begins to grow into something more. Some scenes felt a bit unrealistic, with love struck moments happening during dangerous or intense circumstances.

The author did a great job setting the scene. I felt like I was trudging through the woods alongside the characters.

If you’re looking for a quick, clean read, then grab this book!

I came to enjoy Romantic Suspense novels a few years ago and have been hooked ever since. Kidnapped for Ransom by Jacqueline Adam is the latest in this genre that I have read.

WOW, this storyline captured my attention from page 1 and I did not stop reading until I finished 3 hours later. The main characters in this book are Doctor Chelsea Eidman and Matt Reynolds, a police officer. Chelsea is a recent widow and is navigating the discovery that her late husband was a Diamond Thief. She has no clue to his double life until after he passed away. The story really gets suspenseful and interesting when Chelsea is attacked and her daughter is kidnapped. 2 others are also kidnapped, including Matt Reynolds Sister. Chelsea and Matt decide to work together on this case as they know that have to act fact to rescue the kidnapped. Chelsea and Matt were childhood friends and throughout the Mystery of the Kidnapping, they begin to grow closer to one another. The book has many twists and turns and is action packed throughout. I LOVE how the storyline also has Christian elements. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Romance with Suspense. GREAT BOOK!

Wow! I am definitely adding Jacqueline Adam to my reader list! I didn't want the book to end!!
Dr. Chelsea Eidman thought she knew her late husband until months after his death when she discovered he'd stolen $500k in diamonds from the Albanian Mob.
Chelsea moves with her 4 yr old daughter to her late Aunt's home to try to create a normal life until her house is broken into by her late husband's former partner who believes she knows where the diamonds are. She turns to her former HS crush, Matt Reynolds for help who is her neighbor and a police officer.
When the head of the Albanian Mob kidnaps Chelsea's daughter and Matt's pregnant sister with the ultimatum to find and deliver the diamonds within a few days or suffer the consequences. Will Chelsea and Matt solve the clues her late husband left and stay alive by evading her late husband's former partner also after the diamonds before it's too late? Can they stay alive long enough to find her daughter and Matt's pregnant sister or will her late husband's former partner find them first?
You won't want to miss this faith-based thriller!! **I am not in any form compensated for stating this review. All opinions are my own.**

When Dr. Chelsea Eidman's husband died, that was pretty bad. But then she discovers that he'd led a secret life. One that involved jewel heists. And when he died, the authorities were still looking for the jewels. Though she's hounded by law enforcement and the press, Chelsea has no idea where the jewels are.

But suddenly, the price of not knowing that has gone up. The diamonds belonged to a mobster, and he's ready to threaten Chelsea with the loss of that which is most precious to her; her small daughter. And when he kidnaps her, along with her neighbor Matt's pregnant sister, they'll do anything to get them back. And anything means a ticking clock and a race against time and the wilderness, to find the hidden jewels. (And, I haven't even mentioned another criminal who's willing to kill to get the diamonds.)

"Kidnapped for Ransom" is a fast-moving, sometimes terrifying, adventure story which also contains faith and clean romance. And there is danger around every turn, some you couldn't even have imagined or predicted! Great thriller!

What happens when a mobster ends up kidnapping your daughter and friend? Well Chelsea has to go searching for stolen diamonds with Matt, who is an officer, in exchange for her daughter and friend's life. The author wrote this well and I can't wait to read more books from this author. Every character in this one was great. One thing I did enjoy is how it keeps you guessing until the end. Chelsea thought she knew who she married, but she was mistaken. Chelsea lives her life how she is supposed to and as a doctor always tries to protect her patients as well. Chelsea found out that her now late husband was hiding a secret life. He was a diamond thief. She has no clue where he has anything hidden, but his former accomplice and the rest of society does not believe her.

The accomplice takes matters into his own hands and kidnaps Chelsea’s daughter and friend demanding she gives up the stolen diamonds to save their lives. Chelsea has no other option but to work with Matt, whose sister was the friend that was abducted. They have to work together and diligently in order to make sure that both of the abductees are rescued safely.

Such an amazing, gripping book. Kidnapped for Ransom is a definite page turner that you will not want to put down until you are finished!

From the very first chapter, Kidnapped for Ransom grabbed my attention and didn’t let go. The suspense and tension built steadily throughout, creating that perfect “just one more chapter” feeling. Jacqueline Adam did a great job maintaining the plot’s momentum while also weaving in strong emotional layers that made the characters feel real and complex.

The enemy-to-lovers dynamic between the main characters was one of my favorite parts — it was intense, magnetic, and kept me fully invested. Watching their relationship shift and unravel was both captivating and heartfelt. The author balanced the darker themes with emotional vulnerability, pulling at my heartstrings in all the right ways.

Overall, this was a gripping, suspense-filled read with characters you can’t help but root for.

This Love Inspired Suspense story had lots of suspense and danger at every turn and kept me on the edge of my seat chapter after chapter.

Dr Chelsea has been grieving the loss of her husband and then finds out he had been living a secret life as a diamond thief. His secret past has now come back to haunt her when their daughter is kidnapped, and now everyone wants to know where the stolen diamonds are. She turns to her childhood friend Police Officer Matt in hopes they can uncover the truth and save the girls before time runs out. I liked the fast pace of the story, the relatable characters, and Dr Chelsea’s journey of love and faith.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions and views expressed are my own.

I was intrigued from the very beginning. Twists and suspense, some heart felt moments. Very fast paced with a lot happening. Chelsea has a mothers strength but also left her faith behind. She still has it, she just shut the door on it. Matt (from her younger years) is now a cop and strong in his faith. Like everyone he has his own challenges. I enjoyed this book and I love the way faith was closer to reality and not preached, but just life. My only downer was one of the bad perps seemed to be more able than Matt the cop. Thank you for the arc. I freely share my honest thoughts and opinions. #KidnappedforRansome #JacquelineAdam #Harlequin #LoveInspiredSuspense
