I had no idea what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised with a time travel story spanning millions of years! V. Casa’s story runs through all of the human emotions, eventually… happiness is slow in coming, but it has its place in Vaieon.

Dinosaurs.

Yes, dinosaurs are a big part of this story and the FMC, Lily, actually gets to experience them in the Cretaceous period.

Lily is a strong character with real emotions and suffering. She misses her family and the millions of years separating her from them feels real and expansive.

Her survival skills are tested but she survives and learns and grows in her confidence. There are times I feared for her survival, as I’m sure she does, but she is resilient.

Let me just add, without giving much away, that Baby Boy stole my heart and the friendship between he and Lily is real.

The time travel element does become apparent eventually, and Casa handles it very well, with a few interesting twists.

Loved the book, moving on to Vianaut, the second book in the series right away!

Vaieon by V. Casa is the first of her Vai Trilogy about a girl who gets transported to the Cretaceous Era. V. Casa does an amazing job with Lily’s story and her development as she learns to navigate her new life. With this being my first science fiction book ever, I was nervous to start but am very pleased and surprised with how much I was able to enjoy and stay captivated through her book! I absolutely loved the relationships she was able to create throughout the book and lovedddd baby boy! As this book is apart of a trilogy it does end in a cliff hanger but I am very excited to say I can’t wait to start the next book! If you love science fiction or are wanting to dip your toe into this genre, I would recommend this book!

I just finished Vaieon by V. Casa, which I was kindly sent by the author. This was my first time reading a novel like this, and I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it. The prehistoric world building was amazing and felt vivid and immersive. I cried when the baby boy died and really wish he hadn’t, but it reflected the cycle of life. I can’t wait to read the second book. Highly recommend!

The first half of the book is fairly slow going. If you enjoyed Clan if the Cavebear, then you'll get through this section fine. If you're not used to pre-history stories you may find it utterly boring. It's also reminiscent of Robinson Crusoe and Swiss Family Robinson. Just finding ways to make things work.

The second half is where the most action is. I found this half to be thought provoking and heartstring tugging.

I didn't think I'd like the final outcome of this book based on the first bit (I feel it ran a bit too long), but the last part pulled it out of the mud. If you are a patient reader, I 100% recommend this book! I really like the different survival aspect of the dinosaurs as well as other things I won't spoil. I do look forward to reading the next installment of this series, which I hope comes soon!

What begins as a seemingly normal start to the week soon turns in to Lily’s world being flipped upside down, or more accurately being thrown back in time.

With no clue how she got there or why, the only answer is to adapt and learn to survive in the Cretaceous Era. Being in close proximity with some of the most dangerous species of the era, Lily takes several different approaches to cohabitating, avoiding, and even forming packs with these dinosaurs.

On top of a huge culture shock, Lily also thinks often on the family she left behind; a little boy, a little girl, and a husband. She battles physically with the animals and habitat around her as well as what she suffers with in her mental space.

I haven’t ever read anything that has to do with dinosaurs. I can say that now, without a doubt, I am obsessed with those little/big creatures. The way that the author portrayed the relationships between Lily and the members of her new dinosaur family was so beautiful and makes me wish that I was thrown back into the Cretaceous Era (only if I had the skill set, willpower and courage Lily did or else I would not last very long AT ALL).

The descriptions of the settings she explores as well as the interactions she experiences and witnesses with the dinosaurs makes you believe that you’re right there next to her, rooting her on at every turn.

I loved this book and I cannot WAIT to step into the land of dinos 🦖 🦕

Vaieon was exceptional. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed myself so immensely while reading a novel! I’ll be picking up a physical copy ASAP. V. Casa takes us on a voyage to the Cretaceous era, party of 1.

Lily, our charming and delightful main character, must navigate life among the dinosaurs. That’s all it takes to get you enthralled right?

The writing style will quickly sweep you off your feet and teleport you right in to the story. It was truly immersive and thrilling. I found myself having so much empathy for Lily but also for every dinosaur we met along her journey. As Lily’s tale unfolded, I was taken over with pride for her. The plot will have you “awww-ing,” “waaah-ing”, and “haha-ing”.

My family is annoyed that I won’t shut up about it!

My only qualm with Vaeion is that I needed at LEAST 200 more pages!

Thank you NetGalley and V. Casa for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The author sent me this in exchange for a review.

This book was so good! I'm not normally a Sci-Fi girly, but this book was so well written. The pacing was great, Lily's growth as a character is extremely compelling. I was crying by the end of this book, because I was so devastated for Lily. I did not see that coming from a Sci-Fi book about dinosaurs. But I ate this book up. It's just a compelling book if you want to feel human. Lily is constantly struggling and trying to find her place in a world not built for humans. It's just devastating. But I loved it and I'm definitely finishing this series. This author is incredibly talented and I'm so glad she gave me a chance, because she definitely has a new fan in me.

I’ll be honest, I did step away. It was my own fault with reader block last year. However I came back and ate it up!

Sci-fi with time traveling back to dinosaurs? Sign me up

The world building and the Character (Lady Casa) alone made it an easy five star experience for me. Casa has a very flesh out personality that makes it easy to be put on her shoes as she longs for her family and fight to survive. I never been in that situation, however, the authour does a good job conveying the female main character’s feelings, mentality, and actions.

Love you baby boy <3

3.5 rounded up to 4.

Time travel, dinosaurs and an endless immortal life wind up being a charming quirky mix in this novel, which I was gifted by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I was initially skeptical as I started this book but by the middle I was won over and I mourned for the main character's suffering at the end.

It opens with main character Lily starting a mundane day like any other, taking care of her kids, going to work and waiting for her husband to get home.
Everything changes when she goes to bed and suddenly finds herself falling, crash landing in the prehistoric era of dinosaurs.

Lily is the only human character through most of our story, which means the focus of the story is on her frame of mind and struggles to stay alive in a hostile environment.

I thought the first half was a little to repetitive as the author spent a great deal of time describing Lily's daily survival. At times it felt like it was leaning intk a survival guide. If you love really granular detail, this may not bother you, but I found it slow and unnecessary at times.

However, I thought the pacing picked up at the 50% mark, when Lily starts to truly interact with the creatures around her (this story contains an emotional support dinosaur, how fun is that?!). We also get some hints as to how Lily found herself in what should be an impossible situation, and she's given a little boost to better her chances of surviving in her new world.

I rated this in the middle because personally found the writing story a little dry and lacking in emotion at times, like I was being told instead of shown what the character was feeling. It was redeemed for me by the storyline and the imagination that went into exploring what a person would do if they found themselves stranded amount the giant reptiles of our past. In the end, I would recommend this to sci-fi readers.

Book provided by the author, the opinions in this review are my own.

Vaieon by V. Casa is one of those books that instantly taps into a childhood daydream—the idea of waking up one morning and finding yourself transported far, far back in time. That’s exactly what happens to Lily, the protagonist, when she is pulled from her ordinary life and awakens in the Cretaceous Era. And yes, there are DINOSAURS!

What struck me most was how immersive the setting felt. The world is detailed, dangerous, and alive, and the dinosaurs aren’t just background scenery. They play a real role in the story, sometimes terrifying, sometimes surprisingly complex, which gave me that wide-eyed sense of wonder.

At its heart, though, Vaieon is also deeply character-driven. Lily is not an action hero dropped into a prehistoric playground; she’s a woman grappling with displacement, survival, and what it means to lose the life she knew. There’s fear, determination, grief, and awe woven into her perspective. The slower, introspective passages balance the suspense of survival with an emotional weight that makes her journey feel real.

This is a book for readers who, at some point in their lives, dreamed of stepping outside their door and discovering they’d stumbled into another era: whether you wished for Narnia, Middle-earth, or a world where you’d come face-to-face with dinosaurs.

I’d recommend Vaieon to fans of survival stories, speculative time travel, and anyone looking for something that blends adventure with reflection. It’s the first in a trilogy, and I’m curious to see where Lily’s journey through time will lead next.

My inner 10 year old paleontologist absolutely loved this book!

The imagery was brilliant; you become totally immersed in an Earth untouched by man and the extraordinary lives of dinosaurs.

Lily, wife, mom of 2 is sleeping in her bed and then finds herself awake and alone in the Cretaceous period!  As you follow her on her journey to find food, shelter and safety, you're left with the nagging question of "how did she get here?" Then after a strange out of this world encounter, you're left with 1000 new questions, the most important being, WHY?

This book really is an exploration of two selves, the person she is and the person she must become.  As months and then years pass, it seems like her past life becomes a footnote in her new reality.  It would be so easy for her to give up, but she finds hope and purpose in her new life with her unconventional pack...but is it enough?

"It was time to look ahead and face the world as the Lily she was now--not the one she had been. It was time to shed the 21st century and embrace this ruthless era, eons before her time."

If you like stories about humans coexisting with dinosaurs, then this is for you. I very much look forward to book 2, Vaianaut.

*Based on the the title, I predict there will be many answers in book 2.

I was given an ARC copy of this book but my opinions are my own.

Raise your hand if, as a kid, you wondered what it would be like to live among the dinosaurs? I know I did, and V. Casa has just fulfilled my dream.

I loved following Lily on her journey of adaptation, beauty, peril, and growth. She is thrown into a world that is not her own, and she has no idea why, or how she was even able to get there in the first place. But slowly, she learns about who she lives among (dinosaurs in the Cretaceous Era), how she must change herself to fit into this new world, and how she learns to love the wild beauty around her. It’s a visual feast for your eyes and imagination.

I also loved seeing her form lasting bonds with some of the dinosaurs, and how they slowly start becoming her pack/family. She truly cares for these creatures and marvels are their tenacity and ingenuity. They are not the dumb creatures and mindless killing machines she believed them to be. She’s able to live alongside them and watch them grow-showing her a side of themselves most only dream of witnessing.

This was such a great and unique story. The plot was thorough and engaging, and the protagonist was likable and you were able to see yourself walking alongside her. There was danger, education, connection, and a doozy of a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to continue Lily’s story and what happens next.

This book starts off with Lily getting her two kids ready for the day like any other typical morning. By the end of the day and her second episode of vertigo she goes to bed only to wake up somewhere she did not expect. She wakes up in what she assumes is a rainforest. After a few moments she hears a noise and her first instinct is to climb the tree to try to ensure her safety. While in the tree she comes to see what was making the noise and it was a T-Rex. She is very confused on what is going on and can’t understand how she ended up there. What she does know is that she must remain alive and she might have to resort to eating some bugs or confront one of the smaller dinosaurs in order to nourish herself. After a few agonizing days she comes up with a plan to make a shelter for herself. She tries to cover up her scent with mud to hopefully keep the T-Rex from finding her. This isn’t the type of book I normally read and boy was it quite the trip. Even though it’s not my usual genre I must say I did enjoy the story. The whole time traveler aspect of the story took us on a ride. I rate it 4 stars and highly recommend to anyone that is a fan of this genre, and perhaps even if you’re not usually a reader of this genre, I think you will enjoy it. Thank you so much V. Casa for sending me this story to read!

Thank you to the author (V. Casa) for giving me a copy of Vaieon in exchange for an honest review!

This was honestly such an interesting concept for a book and I loved it! It's not often that you get books set in the Cretaceous period in general, so as a dinosaur lover, I was really excited to read this when I found out about it.

I think what I really loved about this book is that the MC, Lily, didn't know everything about the Cretaceous and the dinosaurs/environment she was facing. While it got repetitive at times, it made me more invested to see her develop her skills in this new world. I also loved her dinosaur friends! While there were no other humans for Lily to interact with, seeing the way she interacted with the different dinosaurs she faced was really nice.

I do wish there was a little bit more with the? cloaked people? to explain what exactly is happening to Lily, but I'm holding out hope that it's explained more in depth in Vaianaut and Vai. The chapter where she was with them felt really abrupt, but it did make me more intrigued!

Overall, I thought this was such an interesting concept for a book! I really enjoyed reading it, and I can't wait to read Vaianaut next.

If you are a fan of the Cretaceous period, Dinosaurs, Sci Fi, Historical Fiction I suggest this book!

V. Casa you did an amazing job at really throwing someone back to that era!

It was a normal Monday for Mother of two Lily, until she fell asleep and got thrown in a different era! DINOSAURS!!! She has to figure out how to survive in this world, so she can get back to her family.
But, Of course “Mother Nature” showed herself while living in an era of dinosaurs! Just GREAT!!

She will have to rely on her instincts to keep herself safe. She learns how resourceful she is through all of this.
Lily learns new skills along the way to help with her survival. She feels proud of herself, as she should!
She makes a little friend along the way. And forms her own family.
She finds something that has her confused!!
Is there someone else here??
How did she even get there?? How is she going to get back?? Will she ever go back?

So many twists and turns! I wasn’t expecting that at all! The last few chapter had me tearing up!

Vaieon by V. Casa is the first book in the Vai Trilogy, centering on Lily, a woman who time-travels back to the Cretaceous Period. The story blends historical fiction with elements of time travel and survival adventure.

As Lily faces primal threats, from predatory dinosaurs and unfamiliar terrain to the raw forces of nature, her character evolves. She begins fearful and isolated, but being thrust into such an untamed world strengthens her resilience and mental endurance.

Vaieon explores themes of survival and finding one’s place in an unfamiliar world. It offers a fascinating look at what it might truly feel like to live among creatures as powerful and terrifying as dinosaurs, especially the
T-Rex.

The setting stood out most, vividly described, immersive, and almost tangible. It gives a grounded sense of life during the age of dinosaurs, capturing both danger and awe.

Unlike fast-paced, plot-driven adventures filled with constant action and suspense, the story is quite slow-paced, focusing heavily on scientific and survival details

This book starts off by narrating the story of what appears to be a normal mother and wife's daily routine in life. Suddenly, you're thrust into a gripping story about survival and rediscovery. Imagine going about your normal tasks and waking up in a total different world during a time in history when it is thought no humans walked the earth. Needless the say, I would be as terrified, confused, and grief-stricken as the main character. She was petrified learning that she had to survive amongst dinosaurs and would likely never see her family again. Throughout her journey, she persevered and learned that she was stronger than she thought. She eventually found out she was immortal after meeting a few mysterious beings and dying. I'm utterly intrigued. I've never read a book quite like this. I'm captivated by the writing, and the world-building is incredible. Be prepared to tap into all your emotions while reading this visionary story of survival and astonishing friendships. I can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy to discover what exactly happened and why.

Vaieon is the first instalment of a three book series and all I can say is, wow, what a read! It took me a little while to get into the story, as sci-fi is brand new to me so I wasn’t used to the elements that come with those stories, but I’m honestly in awe of how V. Casa was able to build such a moving, emotional and intriguing piece all around one person’s experience.

The story centres around Lily, who is unexpectedly teleported back to the Cretaceous era through mysterious circumstances. The book follows her as she comes to terms with her new reality and seeks answers to how she ended up in her new world. There are a few twists and turns I didn’t expect, which keeps the book exciting.

The bonds she builds are beautifully written, and I love the way that you still feel a connection as a reader to the dinosaurs Lily connects with despite the lack of “normal” means of communication. I found the ending very emotional and have already started book two in the series! I cannot wait to see what is next in store for Lily.

Vaieon is an immersive and vividly imagined journey into the Cretaceous Era, told through the eyes of Lily, a human suddenly forced to survive in a world that predates humanity itself. From the beginning, the story places you in an environment that is both breathtaking and relentlessly dangerous, where every moment feels shaped by instinct, adaptation, and awe.

What stood out most to me was the sense of scale and atmosphere. The ancient Earth is portrayed not just as a backdrop, but as a living, untamed force, beautiful, brutal, and indifferent. Lily’s experience feels grounded in survival rather than spectacle, and her resilience becomes the emotional anchor of the story as she learns to navigate a world ruled by creatures far more powerful than herself.

The novel balances adventure and reflection well. While there is constant tension in simply staying alive, the story also invites readers to appreciate the raw beauty of a planet untouched by human influence. The presence of dinosaurs feels natural and formidable, never reduced to mere novelty.

Vaieon is a wonderfully refreshing original story with universal messages and themes we can all relate to. So y'all might have seen the movie Castaway starring daddy Tom Hanks, right? Well imagine that but instead of Tom Hanks it's just a mother going about her normal day, instead of being deserted on an island it's time travelling back to the Cretaceous period and instead of a Wilson volleyball it's a baby T-Rex. Are you still with us? That's the premise of Vaieon, yet it's also so much more than that.

Vaieon beautifully explores the themes of love, survival, purpose, belonging, and self growth. Our FMC Lily is thrusted into an impossible and lonely situation who, over time, learns, adapts, and finds some kind of meaning in a harsh and unforgiving world. It's an emotional ride full of hope and yearning as well as solitude, alienation, and heartbreak.

We enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in the series. We recommend it to those who enjoy historical fiction, Sci Fi, Dinosaurs or are looking for something a little different.

Vaieon by @v.casa.author ARC review 🦖🌋🌴🌺

I came for the time travel, stayed for the beautiful story of human resilience.

Vaieon is a story about a woman who falls through time and into the age of Dinosaurs. There’s action, there’s fighting tooth and nail, there’s desperation to live.

But on a deeper level, there is loneliness. Mourning. Heartache. Healing. Against all odds, finding purpose. Finding peace. Finding the fire isn’t snuffed out.

This story intrigued me right from the beginning, and kept me reading for the surprising investment I felt in Lily’s story. What will she do next? What will she encounter? How will she survive?

This author did a wonderful job, reminded me of long ago dreams of dinosaurs and a magical world that no man got to see. But it also sparked deep feelings within me of self reflection and my own resilience.

So give this book a try! Come for the dinosaurs, stay for the heart 💚

As someone who has absolutely no knowledge of dinosaurs or the cretaceous era, Vaieon was less of a book and more of a survival guide for me. It's very rare to come across a fictious book which is so well researched and has accurate information about the time period. Honestly if tomorrow i were to wake up during the cretaceous era I'd have some hope of survival😂 Jokes aside, I really liked the pace of the book, some days went by peacefully, meanwhile some days Lily was fighting for her life! Even then, not once did I feel like the book was being dragged or I was bored. I can't help but emphasise on how well the environment was described, as if I waa the one in Lily's place! After reading this, I'm immensely grateful that dinosaurs aren't around anymore. Can you imagine living in the same place as a T-Rex? 😱🦖

Vaieon The Vai Trilogy V. Casa

Lily is ripped from her normal life and thrust into another time, where she must face deadly dinosaurs, brutal weather, and the absence of everyday comforts like electricity, running water, and reliable food.

This one genuinely surprised me. I didn’t expect to enjoy a book about dinosaurs, but the deeper I got into Vaieon, the more I realized it was about so much more. It’s a story of survival, friendship, fear, and a woman’s unwavering determination to endure against all odds.

V. Casa excels at evoking emotion. Every feeling on the page landed with full force. I even caught myself crying over a handful of dinosaurs. The way the author pours emotion into each moment is nothing short of incredible. If you enjoy a story of survival with a touch of mystery then you will enjoy this book!

Ever wonder what it'd be like to walk among the dinosaurs? To have to learn how to survive in a habitat not built for humans? Follow Lily's experience in Vaieon by V. Casa.

Lily Vai was a woman in the modern world; a mother and wife. One morning changed all that when she awoke with her face in the mud and a forest from millions of years ago surrounding her.

Scared and unsure at first, we see how Lily adapts, grows, and becomes stronger in a world where she's the only human. V. Casa does a great job with the description of the setting, making it easy to picture yourself there. From eating bugs, to befriending dinosaurs, Lily goes through it all and it's such an exciting and emotional journey. Definitely be sure to check out Vaieon by V. Casa and experience the Cretaceous era with Lily!

Lily is a strong, brave, resilient, and resourceful main character (MC). She has relatable emotions and yet perseveres through unimaginable circumstances. She balances compassion and logic as she braves this unexpected adventure. Her journey almost feels like a video game as she completes small quests and improves her strength, resources, and abilities. The author’s writing style is immersive which allows the reader to imagine the environment without slogging through lengthy descriptive prose. I found myself genuinely rooting for the MC throughout the story and I was deeply invested in her character arc. This story is compelling from beginning to end and I can’t wait to see the journey continue in book 2!

I love history and I was so intrigued by the premise of this book. Time travel and DINOSAURS. I’m in. Not to mention the cover art is amazing.

This book transported me into another world, and Lily’s fight for survival was done so well. She undergoes an experience where afterwards she seems to gain superhuman abilities and stops aging. After that, her story focuses mostly on her building relationships with the creatures that lived in the Cretaceous time period. As in, she’s a badass who befriends dinosaurs.

I feel like there were some loose threads around Lily’s predicament. I had all the questions and no answers about the mysterious figures who dropped her into the past. There’s also not even a hint as to why she was picked out of the billions of people on earth. Hopefully everything comes full circle in the next installments!

I really enjoyed myself reading Vaieon as the author bring the readers in an incredible adventure through the Cretaceous Era, with its dinosaurs, natural disasters and even a bit of mystery.

Vaieon is a fast-paced book about time-traveling, emotions, inner strength and beauty in nature. The book is breathtaking, intriguing and the heroine is relatable and very well designed, with a touch of humor. As her first novel, the author did a marvelous job at presenting how the human nature would fare in this wild and intense prehistoric era.

I personally can’t want to see the other creations of this brilliant author!
Thank you V. Casa, so much!

This was not my usual type of read at all, but there was so much about this that I enjoyed! It starts off with a cosy family setting, with a loving mother and then POOF she's thrown into the cretaceous period, running for her life with only her wits to save her! The level of detail surrounding her survival in the jungle is insane, things I never even thought of become a matter of life or death (menstrual cycle for example!) This book had moments that reminded me of Castaway, only imagine Wilson as a baby T Rex 🤣 There were plot twists galore and one in particular isn't fully explained so leaves you desperate for the next book! Which is soon, right? 🤞
