Preston Caldwell, Viscount Leighton, has loved Lady Amelia Warble for years—quietly, hopelessly, and from a distance. She is his best friend’s sister, the darling of the ton, and very much in love with another man. Wanting her is a mistake he cannot afford… no matter how impossible she is to ignore.
Lady Amelia is certain she knows what she wants. When the man she fancies fails to notice her, she devises a bold enlist her brother’s friend—the notorious rake Viscount Leighton—to pretend to court her and make her true target jealous. It’s only a ruse. Nothing more.
Except Preston is not pretending.
As stolen dances turn into stolen moments, Amelia begins to question everything she thought she wanted. Preston makes her laugh. He sees her clearly. And when he kisses her, she risks forgetting every promise she made to herself... especially the vow never to trust a rake again.
Because Preston is the most dangerous kind of rake of all. The kind she could fall in love with.
A Regency romance novella featuring fake courtship, secret longing, and one very real risk of heartbreak.
Emily writes steamy romances. When not smashing her head against the keyboard, she's busy wrangling a tiny tyrant, and pretending the dust bunnies under her bed are pets. One is named Steve.
This book had me feeling butterflies the entire time! I loved the dynamic between Preston and Amelia, and seeing Amelia slowly come to terms with her feelings for Preston and getting over her fear of Preston’s reputation as a rake. Also, really fun to catch glimpses of the characters of the Howerty’s. 5 stars! 🌟
I first read this book on WP (hehe) and I absolutely fell in love. I am still obsessed even after it’s been published <3 I am so grateful that I’ve been following this author and that she’s been getting more recognition with the Howerty’s novels. She is unbelievably talented and deserves all the praise and love!! So excited for the rest of the books to come out & for my collection to be full of her books <3
Sparking humor and sizzling chemistry! I just love Amelia and Preston. Amelia's daring and off-the-cuff actions startled me into laughing several times, and it was so fun to see Preston so enjoying her personality but also tortured by how difficult she was making it for him to do the "proper" thing. Their witty banter also made me grin and giggle. When they finally gave in to their desires, the passion between them was sweet, hot, and well-earned.
The common story of a man’s best friend falling for his friend’s younger sister. She wasn’t a favorite for me as she was flighty and selfish. Of course an open door scene for her to decide her feelings and resolve things. Not for me personally. They have a hea
