A traumatic secret, an unwanted assignment, a little girl in need, and a promise to a friend aren’t exactly the recipe for romance… or are they?
Investigative reporter Zach Wright isn’t thrilled when he’s pulled from an explosive big-city corruption story and sent to a small town to cover a flood. A bad case of burnout and disillusionment don’t help, either. And he’s definitely not planning to fall in love.
Restaurant owner Rebecca Matthews isn’t looking for romance either, thanks to a devastating secret in her past. Yet deep in her heart she still harbors dreams of a happily-ever-after. But despite the sparks that fly when she’s around Zach, getting involved with any man—especially a short-timer in town—is a recipe for disaster.
When Zach honors a promise to a friend, however, and temporarily welcomes a grieving child into his life, how can she not assist after it’s obvious he’s in over his head? And as Zach and Rebecca work together to help bring happiness to the little girl’s life, will they also find a happy ending themselves?

I think I liked this third book in the series the best, although they are all really good. The extra in this one is the young refugee girl needing a home (I won't say more to avoid spoilers). The characters again overlap with the first two books, but you could read this one without having read those. There's a lot about food in this one, so you might not want to read it when you're hungry :-)
Easy reading, I like to read till I fall asleep. I looked forward to reading a few pages or chapters every night. I enjoyed meeting all the characters& the story lines were very good too.
Irene Hannon weaves poignant, sweet second chance romances and this one doesn't disappoint! She tackles difficult subjects with carr and compassion and gives readers hope for healing in so many ways.
