One of the most exciting and talented creators working in comics today, Sophie Campbell has made her mark on IDW books such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Jem and the Holograms.
A graduate of the Savannah College of Art & Design, Campbell began her career writing and drawing independent comics primarily focused on the lives of young women from all walks of life, including Wet Moon, Shadoweyes, and the Abandoned. She further proved her versatility as an artist when she began drawing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for IDW, where her kinetic action sequences and distinctive character art were a hit with fans and critics alike.
Campbell was brought on as the first artist on the IDW continuing series Jem and the Holograms, where she was responsible for the modern redesign of the characters and establishing the unique look of the comic. Her work on Jem with writer Kelly Thompson was so well received that the two were profiled by the New Yorker in 2015.
Campbell continues to work on several projects for IDW, as well as her own creator-owned independent comics.
At this stage it's really difficult to talk about the plot because it's the penultimate volume in an epic long series and I've been loving it since day 1. Things have escalated massively and the Armageddon Game is finally here. I don't know if everyone will survive but I do know I'll be pissed if certain characters don't.
Different plot threads are coming together, one of them isn't exactly new but given how it looked like it was all settled it's interesting to see it blow up again. It's almost a shame one of the characters didn't come along sooner as I loved them in this book.
Possibly because I'm primarily a written reader I don't usually focus on the art as much as other comic fans do. But I want to give special mention to the art in The Alliance issue 3 as it was very different to anything else in this book, helped tell a great story and looked fantastic.
Another much loved volume. I'm going to be so sad saying goodbye to these wonderful characters in the next one.
At this point, I’m starting to wonder if I’m even a real Ninja Turtles fan. I try reading through this and it just feels like I’ve completely lost the plot. The story is barely even about the Turtles anymore, we’re somehow still introducing a shitload of new characters in what’s supposed to be the grand finale of this run, and I just could not give less of a shit. Only one more volume left, might as well trudge through the finish line.
With the emergence of The Last Ronin in 2020, my interest in my long-firgotten childhood heroes was rekindled for it appeared it had matured as well. I've enjoyed the IDW run; it's got all kinds of cross overs and it resurrects characters from other mediums like Tokka and Rahzar from Secret of the Ooze or even Venus De Milo from the failed Next Mutation series. Venus' character was actually handled well and developing organically in this collection. The art is always awesome in these books, Santalouco definitely being my favorite artist. It's interesting to see the new student/teacher dynamic unfold between the Turtles and the resurrected and redeemed Oroku Saki (Shredder) in this collection. What I've always appreciated about the Ninja Turtles franchise is that it can afford to be as bold or silly as it wants to be given it's own satirical origins. Case in point: Cudley the Trans-Dimensional CowLick, which is a spaceship that is also a speaking cow's head...named Cudley. Having one of these massive volumes to read is always a treat and I've been keeping up with these books ever since a buddy of mine gave me the first volume for Christmas. Loved it.

It is a BIT obtuse. There is so much happening at all times and then they instantly finish. However that might just be because of the speed I am reading. And even if it's a little messier than I hoped for, Armageddon game is mostly great, and there is some truly wonderful issues. Really surprised at how good the Alliance mini is. Might be the best part of this whole arc.
This is the most I’ve enjoyed a volume since Tom Waltz left.
It did feel more like a setup to the last part of the IDW story. A lot of exposition & splitting up the party to bring them all back together for a big battle.
One volume away from the end & I’m very excited to pick in up!
There is a lot going on in this volume. A bit complicated with many plot threads being juggled at the same time. Still fun and eagerly awaiting the release of the final volume.
What a let down. Reads like a big Marvel / DC event, i.e. a big mess jumping all around the place. The Armageddon game is still a lot of build up. Nothing really happens and it has way too many characters. Don't have high hopes for the next volume and the end.
