Raemil: Fear the Dark
He who is both betrayed and betrayer,
will rise from the blood of his creator,
he who is destined to be mortal man’s slayer.
Raemil and her brother are heading back to Caelin, but their hardships will not end with the return of the Caelinian prince. Raemil plans to only stay long enough to gather provisions and answers. What she finds in her childhood home will send her running for her life.
Lestadt, Neximus and Ahlyha continue their journey to Caelin for shelter and safety, collecting displaced and frightened refugees along the way. Lestadt is unaware he walks a path that will lead him straight back to Raemil.
Evil runs rampant through Otowan and Iadron and the atmosphere is heavy with dread. Deranged humans roam in packs, seeking survivors to maim and feed to the hungry mouths of demons. Dragons descend on unprepared civilians to lay ruin to cities, permitting unspeakable creatures into former strongholds to lay slaughter to its peoples.
History is set to repeat as the past catches up to the mages. Unease murmurs below the surface of every major city where humans and mages coexist. Old wounds reopen and anger festers there. Horsham gathers her forces and sets her long-awaited plans in motion. West Sirron continues to search for their heroine, but nothing can prepare them for the destruction headed their way.
There is nowhere to run that is not fraught with danger and Raemil and her companions soon learn that merely surviving isn’t enough.
Revenge will be exacted. Hearts will be shattered. Friendships will be tested and bonds will be broken …

Raemil Fear the Darkness reads like it’s meant to be on screen. I can imagine this being a binge-worthy show with unforgettable characters and terrifying creatures.
For me, the creatures are the highlight of the story. I especially like the sleek, weasel-cat Mallacad, but the whole world is packed with unique creations. The side characters are also thoughtfully written and just as engaging as the leads (Neximus was the favourite character for me) :)
The story does hop between character threads, sometimes just as you’re completely hooked on one arc, but honestly, that only made me read faster to find my way back to it. It keeps the pace brisk and the tension high.
This is the second book in the series, and I enjoyed it even more than the first!

The second book in this series was even better than the first! You really get to know all the characters and their backstories, it is amazing how the author ties them all together. It is rich with detail and action, I could not put this book down. I can’t wait to read part 3 to see where it takes all the characters that I have come to love and hate. This series is a must read for book lovers of any genre.
