There are many ways to reunite with a former flame.
Walking into his office as his newest employee, fainting at his feet, and then having him discover you've been hiding his child for seven years is probably not recommended by relationship experts.

Yet here we are.

Seven years ago, I met Cole at my cousin's wedding. I was a freshly dumped, slightly buzzed bridesmaid seeking refuge in the hotel bar. He was brooding, mysterious, and saved me from a would-be thief who was clearly making poor life choices. (Kind of like me, as it turned out.)

Now he's my boss—the demanding, terrifying Cole Christianson who doesn't know the meaning of work-life balance and definitely doesn't know that we made a baby together all those years ago.

I'd planned to be professional, collected, and absolutely not attracted to him anymore. Instead, I've cried in the bathroom, been cradled in his arms (again), and discovered he's engaged to someone else.
The executives' retreat is next week, and at this rate, I'll be unemployed, exposed, and possibly re-seduced by the time it's over.

Some women never learn. Hi, I'm some women.

Lilian Monroe lives in a luxurious jungle treehouse surrounded by lush greenery, with an army of scantily-clad men with rippling abdominal muscles ready to attend to her every need.

No, wait. That's not true.

Lilian Monroe spends her days dangling her feet into her pool, while a scantily-clad pool boy with rippling abdominal muscles feeds her chocolate-covered strawberries and massages her back.

Okay, okay. You got me. That's not true, either. Let's try again.

Lilian Monroe lives at home with her two children, three dogs, and twelve chickens. Her husband likes to work shirtless in the back yard. His sweaty, gleaming abdominal muscles ripple with every movement and he—

I'm sorry. I have to stop. Fine, I'll admit it. That one isn't true either.

How about this: Lilian Monroe loves thinking about men with rippling abdominal muscles serving her hand and foot, and she wants you to think about them too! She is an avid reader, writer, and lover of all things romance.

She loves everything from bad boys to billionaires. Her books are packed with sizzling-hot heat, action, suspense, and everything from second chances to single dads. She hates cheating and loves a good happily ever after (and rippling abs).

Carrie & Cole— both were boring and a bit stupid..
And this is hardly a single mom tropee 😩😩
The way Evie was used just for a few chaps was annoying. And there's so much constant repetition! Like you don't need to say the same several times in a chapter—let alone repeating the same thing in the other chapters until the book ends, as well. 🙄 Didn't like writing much.. What about the other characters? Why weren't they also shown or talked about. And what of what Alba did?
Overall, extremely disappointed. Don't waste your time on this book guys. You'll find many great books out there.

Cole and Carrie

I cried a bunch. First part of book is the hookup story and it’s hot 🔥🔥🔥. Her car with all her belongings is broken into. The bum has the only thing she really values- but really has no value - a box of her memories of her mom who died. He chases after the guy they exchange some words. She ends up apologizing to him at the bar later. Then the hookup - neither has ever felt this way but… they part, don’t get full names or contact info. Then poof the story skips to 7 years later - she has a daughter. She couldn’t find him to tell him. And present day she’s at a new job fainting in front of her new boss - him! He’s engaged to a bitchy woman who he isn’t fully on board with but he made a promise… but he can’t stop this pull toward Carrie. The fiancée breaks it off - she’s in love with someone else. He goes to Carrie… meanwhile she’s waiting to tell him he has a daughter and is about to but he takes a phone call. He finds out and is furious - he fires her - gets a lawyer. They start the visitations and he’s mad but he eventually understands why she didn’t tell him… he can’t stop loving Carrie. Grand gesture he got her mother’s one earring from a pawn shop and had a match made - kept it all these years in hope of finding her… she is overjoyed.

Hea - dating 6 months, proposal, married next year and pregnant soon after

Dumb decisions by the heroine

Dear authors - the heroine making unilateral decisions and keeping all the cards when it comes to children just makes the HEA unbelievable.

Stop it.

I fell in love with Cole instantly. He drew me in from the beginning. He had a difficult childhood, but he become a good man in spite of it. He worked hard and valued loyalty. He just wanted to feel like part of a family. He met Carrie by accident. Both of them struggling with life. Cole was debating his future while trying to make decisions about his past. Carrie was moving on from a disastrous relationship. One night was all they gave each other. However, they both left wishing it could be more. Years later, single mom Carrie is determined to let go pf the past and forge an independent future for herself and her daughter when she finds herself working for Cole. She has to stay strong, because she has a very bog secret, one that could derail her future, and Cole is engaged to someone else. She knows he deserves the truth and so does her daughter, but will she ever find the nerve to tell them? And will Cole take the one thing she loves most in this world, besides him, away from her when he finds out?

not enough relationship development

I don’t think there was enough relationship development. Spent too much time building up to them getting together before they make a move. Then didn’t spend enough time building the relationship back after he found out about eve.

I am TORN. I can't decide what i think about this one. The chemistry and the spice was superb. the longing and yearning was top notch. But he never apologized for his actions after he found out the secret?!?! And dude she looked for you!! I'm sorry. I'd climb that man like a tree but he does need his ass beat

EDIT: I slept on it and decided I HATE HIM. He had the MOTHER OF HIS CHILD fired. For not telling him about their kid. Didn't even give her time to explain. Just took away her income and ability to provide for their child. She could have and should have sued him for wrongful termination God dammit!!!! Fuck him

Okay sooo… this book was honestly mid for me. The plot was there, I’ll give it that, but I felt like it focused way too much on the sexual attraction instead of actually building more depth between the characters.

Not gonna lie, I did have some emotional, even teary moments, and I love when a book can do that. And it was super bingeable—I finished it in a day.

But overall? It just didn’t give me that wow factor I was hoping for.

Whew! The chemistry between these two is crazy hot!
It seemed like I just started reading, and then - poof - I was at the end!!

This couple was easily relatable and engaging. Many reasons existed for an earlier HEA for this couple, but their re connection was entertaining; Carrie’s choice about Cole was hard for me to accept.

However, that’s the reason I’m a fan of this author and recommend their books. I always relate to her characters, and her stories always evoke different emotions in me. While some plot points were predictable, there were some surprises that made the read very enjoyable; I recommend grabbing it today.

I received a complimentary ARC (thank you) and happily leave my review.

Carrie and Cole have an undeniable chemistry. After only hours together they discover a connection that’s lasting. However as virtual strangers they’re unable to find their way back together. Their one night of passion leaves her alone, homeless, jobless and pregnant. Step by step she rebuilds her life. On the day she starts a new job, Carrie learns her new boss is Cole. And he’s engaged. Once again her heart is crushed and she has to fight her attraction to him, work her a@@ off at her new job, and keep details about her daughter (his child that he’s unaware of) under cover.

Through work, carrie and Cole grow closer. When Evie appears, Cole is stunned by the truth she’s his daughter. Hurt and angry he retaliates by firing her & getting his lawyers involved to fight for custody.

But to find out what happens you’ll have to read the book. As always, the characters are lovable and the story is believable and worthy of some shed tears.

This is the sixth book in The Manhattan Billionaires series, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading Cole and Carrie's heartwarming story.
A one night stand leaves Carrie having to rethink her whole life plans. She is unsuccessful in finding Cole to share her news!
A chance meeting at her new job leaves Carrie and Cole trying to understand these feelings, especially as Cole is engaged to be married.
Will love give them a second chance?
Wonderful storyline with great characters and absolutely loved the HEA!!

Cute quick read. Carrie was a strong FMC who made some poor choices but got her HEA. Cole, hmm. I liked him and didn't like him. The whole engagement to Alba was weird. His issues were mostly founded. His firing of Carrie was a little over the top. The wrap up gave me a little whiplash. But overall I'm happy with it.

I do really wish we got a better back story of Cole's adoptive parents. Typically (not always) people who make the effort to adopt a baby want the baby. So I need information on why he was treated so poorly. *My husband had a similar shitty adoption situation, so I know it happens.

Carrie and Cole had a one night stand, and Carrie found herself pregnant shortly after. She tried to find Cole but she knew nothing about who he may be and couldn’t find him. She raised her daughter with the help of family and 7 years later she finds herself fainting at her new boss’s feet because when she goes to introduce herself it’s none other than Cole! This story follows their will the/wont they, office romance.

This story was awesome! The chemistry between Cole and Carrie is off the charts! They both knew it immediately and both regretted not exchanging information. Cole has some deep seated issues he has to work through, especially regarding his parents and his misguided thoughts on what’s expected of him. All in all this was an awesome story and I enjoyed it a lot. The spice was good!

2.5! These two MCs were painful (possible spoilers ahead)
I actually started this series off by reading Book 7 first. I rated that book 4.5 which is based off Alba’s story (who happens to be the fiancé to H in this book)

Plot was basic. MCs meet at a hotel and have an amazing ONS. They only know each other’s first names. They leave without exchanging contact info. SURPRISE! Weeks later, h is pregnant.
Both MCs have looked for each other over the years. Neither were celibate during their separation.

7 years later, H is engaged to OW (Alba) and he’s running his dad’s company. h now has a 6-year-old daughter and she’s just been hired at H’s company. She faints when she realizes who H is.
H is fighting his attraction to h because hE doeS’T cHeAT 🙃

Now….most decent people would think “hey, now that I know who my baby daddy is, I should let him know” (ya know since you’re a struggling single mom who has to shack up with your cousin and her husband just to provide a roof over the kid’s head) but this h is not a decent person. H and h engage in a few weeks of emotional cheating (and yes, I would definitely classify their POVs as emotional cheating) all while H has h working on wedding preparations (like…who the fk does that?)

So OW feels the attraction between H and h. OW also has her own little secret love. She ends their engagement. H actually acts kind of upset over the ended engagement and the fact OW is in love with somebody else. So confusing

Not even a few hours after ending the engagement and H is knocking on h’s hotel door. Yep! Smex and more smex.
NOT ONE SINGLE WORD TO HIM ABOUT HIS KID

There is some random plot about OW being in a wreck and H takes off to go be with her. It’s really not a drama issue, it’s more because nobody knew that the engagement was cancelled yet. OW eventually tells her parents.

H decides to show up at the theater he knew h was taking her daughter to see a show. Well, he got the shock of his life when he saw the kid and she looked just like him. h was outraged that H just showed up. Ummm. She basically tells him to go away.

So H does the most reasonable thing ever *eyeroll* and immediately calls his office to have h fired (wow leave the mom completely without a way to take care of a child. Niiiice) (another side note-I was singing wrongful termination in my loud voice)
He also gets attorneys. I guess I understand, but not really. He is BIG MAD

They go months separated. They go to mediation and he’s allowed supervised visits for a while. His rage starts to lessen some. The night before their final mediation, they decide to actually fking talk. h told her side of the story and H decided she wasn’t such a bad person after all. (I wanted to scream)
They both admit their love for each other and decide to go slow.

There’s no grovel from either MC.

I think it’s safe to say I didn’t care for these MCs. They are in their mid 30’s, but they have the maturity of 15-year-olds.

I truly felt if the OW wouldn’t have ended the engagement, H would have married her. I also think h would have never told him about the kid. They were both awful.

I did not like this book. 🫠 and I really wanted to be a good one..
There was no chemistry, and Cole was so immature 😒
It was hardly a surprise pregnancy trope 😒
If Alba did not call the wedding off they probably would’ve done it. It was so annoying.
And Carrie could have done so much better the Cole.

The Wrong Boss
Cole and Carrie
Second Chance, secret baby/child, workplace romance

I really liked this book. It was different than the others in the series. And at this point anything different, for me, was good. The past books had become very predictable and formulaic.

Carrie and Cole met on a weekend in a hotel bar. It was her cousins wedding, and he was there meeting with a prospective new employer. He helped her when her car was broken into. She was snarky and prideful, he was chivalrous and smitten. There was instant attraction, and lustful looks that took them to her room for one night of hot, sexy times. Only first names exchanged and limited personal information. But it left them both wanting more.
Seven years later.
Carrie is the single mom to six year old Evie. Cole is now running his father’s company and engaged to be married. And she is now going to learn that her new boss is the father of her daughter.
Carrie knows that she needs to tell Cole. He has a right to know he’s a dad. But she also knows he has to opportunity to tear her world apart by taking Evie from her.
Their chemistry is still there, and once his fiancée calls off their wedding, they pick up where they left off. When Cole finally sees Evie for the first time, he knows she’s his. And Carrie’s worst nightmares come true.
It takes seeing her with Evie, for him to finally understand why Carrie would keep her a secret. It starts to slowly melt his heart.
I liked this story. A secret child from a one night stand was refreshing.
I missed seeing the past couples. We see a bit of Rome and Nikki from the last book, but I missed catching up with the others.
Dual points of view. No cheating (despite what it looks like no cheating once they are together again). They do end up together in the end.

New beginnings are the best opportunity to close a door and open a new one to a better life. It should be easy, but it is not. Life has a way of throwing a curve ball, and we have to recover and move forward. After a breakup, Carrie was ready to start over. All of those years of an abusive relationship, making herself smaller to fit into the prison Derek (her ex-boyfriend) had made for her. No dreams, no freedom, no self-esteem. Now, it's over. It´s time to reorganize her life from scratch. The first event as a single woman was her cousin`s wedding party and a good chance to prove she had moved on. Everyhting was going smoothly until a junkie decided to break into her car and to steal a memory box that was very important to her. From then on, everything becomes a mess. Cole is the knight in shining armor who arrived on time to save the day and the damsel in distress. A ruined dress, a blister, a wedding to attend, a handsome guy, a one-night stand, and the rest is a great story to be told about Carrie and Cole. Cole is not the perfect guy. He deals with insecurities and rejection, but his heart is so huge that it's impossible not to love him. I can`t say a lot more, otherwise it could be a spoiler, although I will give you a piece of advice... this book is a must-read. so please read it. Lilian Monroe is one of my favorite writers and never disappointed.

I did not like this book. The 2 stars are for Evie. She was adorable.

Carrie and Cole both acted like teenagers throughout the entire book. I didn't feel their connection until the epilogue, and even that was just okay.

This book started out strong. I thought once Carrie saw Cole again, she'd be honest and they would move forward.

They loved each other, and hang onto a one night stand seven years later. It was just too unrealistic for me. I also couldn't understand why Carrie didn't go back to his office the first time they saw each other after all of those years and be honest with him. She had chances after that, and still didn't do the right thing. It just didn't make any sense that it took almost the whole book for him to know about Evie.

There was no relationship development. They had sex, and apparently both fell in love.

The fiance added absolutely nothing to this story.

Lastly, of all of the beautiful towns in New Jersey, you picked a really crappy one.

This was my first book by this author, and I might give another book a chance. Although I didn't like the story, the writing was good.

Second chance/secret baby romance

Cole and Carrie have a one-night-stand at a wedding and both are smitten with each other. Because last names were not exchanged or any other important info, they cannot find each other for 7 years. In the mean time, Carrie found herself pregnant with Coke’s daughter and becomes a single mother. When Carrie changes jobs, Cole is her immediate boss but he’s engaged. She’s afraid to tell him about his child and he won’t be unfaithful to his fiancé. This leads to hurt feelings and lots of angst and misunderstandings.

Though Carrie is a strong mom, she’s not a strong person. She doesn’t want to woman-up and tell Cole about their child. Cole doesn’t want to disappoint his father or his business associates. Both are not very mature in their personal lives.

I don’t mind secret baby stories but I hate liars and people who put off news that they know they need to share. Just not fond of this story.

The Wrong Boss (Manhattan Billionaires Book 6) by Lillian Monroe is about a romance between Cole and Carrie after a one-night stand at her cousin Hailey’s wedding. Cole and Carrie didn’t exchange last names or any information about themselves. Carrie returns home with a baggage chuck full of insecurities and, unknowingly, a baby. After trying to avail no to find Cole, Carrie continues with her life by living with her cousin and raising Evelyn from an infant into a sweet little girl who loves honeybees. Over seven years later, Carrie discovers that Cole is not only her new boss but that he is engaged to be married. How Carrie and Cole navigate not just working together but trying to ignore the chemistry that boils between them are found within the pages of The Wrong Boss by Lillian Monroe, who writes romance readers can’t get enough of.

Great 'secret baby'/second chance romance. I really enjoyed this story of sassy Carrie and hunky Cole with whom she has a one night stand at her cousin's wedding. Fast forward seven years and Carrie is a struggling single mum pleased to be starting a new job with a big company. I loved the way neither is prepared to re-encounter each other after all this time, where Cole is her new boss! I really liked both the main characters, Both are guilt ridden as Carrie continues to conceal her daughter's parentage from Cole whilst he cannot control his attraction for this woman who is not the fiance he is due to marry in a matter of months. The truth about their daughter suddenly coming out is a shock and looks likes derailing any chance of an HEA; I loved how these two individuals, who are truly meant for each other, come together eventually. Another great read from Lillian Monroe.

I really really liked this book. Such a refreshing surprise! This popped up as a random fb reel with her fainting after seeing him. I was hooked from page 1. From her self depreciation after her backup, her fear of losing her mom’s keepsakes to the electric connection the two of them had. I love the writers writing style. She made the characters very relatable. They were both two flawed people who made mistakes. The writing and storytelling really brought you to the story. I absolutely hated Carrie towards the end but did kind of understand her fear and how it could’ve been perceived as deceit, but it was like decision paralysis. I hated he was so hurt and felt even more alone and unwanted. I love that they didn’t make the ex an awful b. I also love that I could feel his absolute yearning for acceptance…

Wow… this was so good! This is one of those books that you stay up to the wee hours of the morning to finish (which I did until 2 in the morning!). Ms. Monroe knocked another one out of the park. I have read so many of her books and am never disappointed!

The chemistry between Cole and Carrie was sizzling from the moment they met at the hotel, right up to the end of the book. You really root for these two to reunite, despite all the obstacles with his loveless engagement and his determination and loyalty to see the engagement through! His anger at her not telling him about their daughter I think was a little over the top, but what they felt for each other prevailed as did their love for each other. Great job Lilian!!

the angst was there but…(spoilers)

I skipped through a lot of this book because there was just a lot of talking and descriptive stuff. Also, I really didnt think that Carrie’s justification of not telling Cole was strong enough. The spelling bee storyline of the book was cute, yes, but saying “I don’t want to tell him because it’s going to mess up something important to her SEVEN WEEKS from now” was lame. She could have easily said “this is your daughter, let’s ease her into finding out the truth from us because she’s got her focus on something” or whatever.

This is one of my favorite tropes, and I’ve read books by this author before, but I just didn’t like that aspect of it.

The Wrong vice-president not really

Carrie has just got away from a long unhealthy relationship, she has all her.belongings packed in her car and is a bridesmaid for her cousin, Hailey. Going out to her car to get a plaster for a blister, before the wedding ceremony starts, she sees someone breaking into it. Rushing to stop him, her shoe heel gets stuck in a grating and falls over and a.man rushes to save her. Instead of being grateful she gets prickly and argumentative with him. This is her introduction with Cole. After the wedding Carrie sees him at the bar and start up a conversation, which leads to horizontal tango. Seven years later they meet again, Cole as a boss, Carrie as PA. Lots of soul searching and self doubt, good story.

Cole and Carrie have a connection that has remained for 7 years, each strongly affected by their initial meeting and night of passion. The chemistry and emotions come from the excellent use of detail. Beautifully written with precise language, the words capture emotions in a way that makes the reader FEEL them. I also really enjoy Lilian Monroe's development of a strong man who is not a jerk. Cole is caring and thoughtful. He is a good person reunited with another good person. There is no unrealistic character change, just two imperfect people whose initial connection never went away. Kismet? Fate? I like to imagine so.

Eight weeks of not telling him was ridiculous...

I was tired of her saying I'm going to tell him. After?? Her cousin told her after all these big events...
The lawyer told her tell him sooner than later because it will be looked upon badly then she alone with him all those times and she didn't tell him!!
While Cole was so afraid of letting his dad down he was willing to marry someone who clearly was cheating. Leaving at 10p and not coming back! Sacrifice his happiness and freedom for "family".
Evie and Hailey were my favorite characters of this book.
I loved the twists ans turns, though there was not enough violence... overall, It was a good read.

Absolutely amazing!

I loved this book! Lilian once again gives the reader an amazing story with this tale of Cole and Carrie. Two people who meet under a very interesting set of circumstances and it will take them on quite the roller coaster ride. It will be seven years after this meeting until they meet again and I love how the chemistry between them is still there. There is a bump or two on the road of their journey but I love how, in the end, they manage to overcome all that stands between them. I truly enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read what Lilian comes up with next!
