A delightful adventure story for toddlers, telling of Mohammed, a clever, but cheeky, squirrel, who becomes separated from his family, and sets out to find them.
Using well-written language which little ears will easily understand, author Graham Hyman’s 32-page tale combines adventure with emotion, which will have toddlers hanging on to every word.
All of this author’s children’s stories are based on characters sharing Love, Peace, Happiness, Understanding, and Hope, through their words and deeds.
Mohammed the Squirrel introduces toddlers to characters having a personal taste in food – Mohammed likes jammy dodger biscuits, but not the jam in the middle, as he finds it too sticky. And, horror of horrors, he doesn’t like chocolate biscuits!
At its heart, this little gem is all about kindness; the kindness shown by the little boy in giving Mohammed biscuits, and the kindness of the old couple who go on to give him, and later his whole family and many other squirrels, - even nicer ‘beautiful’ plain, crunchy, biscuits. And contrast this, with an unkind, grumpy, old man, who chases Mohammed away.
The book is also a study in patience and perseverance, showing that success comes if you keep working at it, as Mohammed tries again and again to get the old couple to understand he’s hungry.
While the story will appeal to young children’s sense of adventure, the bright, colourful, pictures will be as veritable a feast for their eyes, as the old couple’s biscuits are for Mohammed’s tummy.
A great combination of words and illustrations to combine learning with entertainment.
