Shape Me: A Muse Series Novel

Rate this book
The second installment in the sweet and spicy Muse Series. Charlotte's new challenge, is Devlin's second She'll do what it takes to win, and he'll do what it takes to win her back.

When a new art contest lands at Charlotte’s feet, she realizes it’s her chance to get out of her rut, distract herself from her flailing relationship, and go back to making a name for herself.

Unfortunately, there seems to be another name she just can’t Devo, her past crush and scandalous one-time fling.
Devo, much to Charlotte’s chagrin, has returned to NYC and enters the very same contest she’s competing in, but without the use of his infamous pseudonym. For now, he’s just Devlin. And he’s the last one standing when it’s announced that contestants will have to work in pairs.

When Charlotte and Devlin last worked together, he turned her world upside down, leaving her daydreaming, breathless and covered in paint. Then, he vanished—the only thing he left behind was Charlotte’s likeness, immortalized on canvas.

He didn’t even leave his phone number.

It takes a lot to trust once burned. It also might take an idiot to turn down the help of a skilled and successful artist, especially when rejecting his partnership now would mean throwing in the towel on this new contest.

This time, Charlotte’s determined to keep her guard up and stay in control, even as Devlin runs his rough fingertips across her cheek, down her neck, along her collarbone, memorizing her shape as he transfers her curves to clay…

This time, she’s not going to fall for him… right?

ARC Reader review:
Overall: 5/5
Plot: 4.5/5
Relationship dynamic: 5/5
Spice: 2/5 (just purely in terms of spicy content/chili pepper amount levels 🌶️🌶️)

Wow- "Shape Me" truly demonstrates Missy's talent at developing strong characters whose emotions are highly relatable and personable. I often felt like I was personally experiencing Charlotte's feelings of betrayal, abandonment, and wanting to trust Devlin again. I also deeply resonated with Devlin's feelings of not being good enough for someone or thinking you just end up being worse for them. This sequel in the series has more depth and plot than the novella, which leads it to having less spice as well. However, Missy does an incredible job of keeping the sensual tension between Devlin and Charlotte high, which puts the reader in a delectable, addictive position of "will they do this?" Or "will they not do this?"

Additionally, I adored how Missy gave Devlin a protective, possessive side that remained tremendously respectful and true to Charlotte's personal autonomy and choices. I appreciated that Missy showed both of the characters' imperfections. There was a switch in dynamic in this book that I highly enjoyed. Whereas in the novella, Charlotte was the one more often pursuing Devlin, in this book, Devlin was the one pursuing her more often. I love how this made their relationship and pining for each other more even-keeled. Missy definitely brought back male yearning in this book and I ate it up!

Charlotte’s in a rut, hoping an art contest will reignite her spark. Enter Devlin, her former crush and fling. Forced to team up, they’re thrown into a whirlwind of artistic rivalry and second-chance romance. Will Charlotte trust him again? Can she overcome her self-doubt?

You can expect witty banter and enough “will they/won’t they” tension to fuel a rom-com marathon. Plus, the art world setting adds a unique twist.

Perfect for a fun, flirty read with a dash of artistic flair. If you love second-chance stories with a creative edge, this one is a winner.

As an ARC reader for both books, I was dying to know what happened after that cliffhanger in Splatter Me, and Shape Me did not disappoint! The story picks up right where the first one left off, and while it’s definitely a slow burn, Charlotte’s bad choices kept me on my toes. She’s frustrating, but I couldn’t help but love her.

Missy really expanded on the characters and their backgrounds, making the story even more engaging. And the epilogue? So excited for the potential spin-off! Shape Me was worth the wait, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

I’m not sure why this series is marketed as spicy, because it’s definitely not. I think I would’ve liked it better if we also had Devlin’s POV.

As an ARC reader for this book, I genuinely couldn't wait to see what the characters would do and how the story would move forward after that excruciating cliffhanger in book one. I loved the flow of the story, and the characters' growth was evident. The one-liners absolutely have my heart! Devlin and Charlotte's chemistry is off the charts. Personally, chatting up with the excellent Indie Author Misy Kaye for my podcast, the story came at me from a completely different angle because I could see the whole thought process behind it.

Some parts of the story will throw you for such a loop that you must compose yourself for a moment or two. I ache for plot twists like that because it makes reading the rest of the story much more enjoyable. Brace yourself for surprise, agony, and unending charm and love!

I thoroughly enjoyed how much art was the storyline's main character - as an artist, it appeased me to no end.

I'm thrilled about the next book and cannot see how the other characters will move this forward!

Pleasantly surprised by a random book i found on tiktok, but that isn't a "book tok book" if that makes sense. I really enjoyed the novella that begins Charlotte and Devlin's story arc. likewise, I enjoyed this novel!

However, I can't give this book 5 stars because Charlotte's inability to hold a simple conversation about her assumptions/conclusions. I, myself, am bad about confrontation, but the conversations she needed to be having with Devlin were thrown out the window because she just assumed the worst, which then suddenly became her reality of the situation. It can't even really be considered miscommunication because it was really just a lack of relevant communication altogether🙄

I also wish they would have had a conversation about the letters he left her after the "collaboration" that takes place in the novella. Her bad attitude towards him is partially her fault for her assumptions about and then her simply ignoring the letters her left her. But it's like those somehow just ceased existing once he came back.

So freaking cute! I loved the novella and how spicy it was but this book added so much more to the story. I loved getting more background on Devin and Charlotte and watching their story play out. I did not expect to have so many emotions during this book. Missy does a really good job of making you feel every single bump in the road as Charlotte navigates her way through the competition. This book isn’t as spicy as the novella but it makes up for it in yearning, lustful, tension filled moments. I adored the characters and the story line! Loved watching Charlotte overcome everything and Devin finally letting someone in! If you’re looking for a sweet romance this one’s a great read!

Oh how I love Devlin and Charlotte’s story! Book 2 of The Muse Series! This new indie author knocked it out of the park! It is engaging, easy read, great characters, sweet love story with the perfect amount of spice! Devlin aka Devo is a sexy gentleman who fell for his muse, talented artist, mysterious yet real! I love Charlotte’s innocence, naivety, her heart, and artistic mind. She’s unsure of herself and her art. These two had a connection from the first time they met. Devlin comes back to NYC. An art competition may help Devlin win the girl and Charlotte to win her confidence in her art and herself! A great romance book that you will not be able to put down! Go grab this book-available on Valentine’s Day! Make sure to read the first book a novella, Splatter Me -available now on Amazon!

I couldn't wait to dive back into the world of Charlotte & Devlin after the cliffhanger left off at last year in Splatter Me. The sequel picks up right where we left off and was easy to dive right back into the Brooklyn art world with Charlotte. The unique art contest brings our MC's together in forced proximity, making them unable to deny the chemistry between them.

If you love second-chance romances and slow burns, this book is for you! The tension between Charlotte and Devlin is high the whole book with witty banter and the slow burn pays off. The story layers more emotional depth than the novella as we get more insight into their backgrounds that have influenced who they are today. Shape Me is an easy, fun, and flirty novel, perfect for your next rom-com read!

ARC Review: I loved Charlotte and Devlin’s story! This book is a cutesy rom-com. Spice level I’d say 🌶️🌶️. Just the way these two are with each other is chef’s kiss! After reading the first book Splatter Me I couldn’t wait to dive into this second book. I really loved this storyline behind these two characters. I could really feel Charlottes emotions throughout the book as if I was the one being betrayed or being hurt. Devlin opening up to her just made me melt! I really liked how Missy developed Devo/Devlin’s character throughout the series and the protective/possessive side of him when it comes to Charlotte. Showing that he also had his feelings and reasoning behind his actions. I just felt like I could resonate with both characters and how they were feeling.

The second book in the Muse Series, is a fun and interesting story of rivals to lovers and second-chance romance with a creative artistic flair.
An exciting art competition that forces the main characters to work together also means driving them into vulnerability and trust building.
Filled with tension, banter and a touch of spice, this makes for a brilliant fast-paced, flirty, read.

Charlotte’s self doubt, insecurities and inner monologue leans towards a more personal, relatable experience whilst still maintaining a positive personal growth that has you routing for her to find both love and self confidence!

I loved these two characters!

I got so incredibly invested in these two characters after reading the novella. I will say, this story felt like it circled around the desired outcome for a bit too long.

I was here for Devlin. The broody artist who loves to paint sexy art suddenly stops when he meets his ultimate muse. 😍 Swoon! I think we all secretly would love to be a man's muse. 😅

If I had to choose I'd have chosen to extend the Novella a bit with this additional story line. And cut out a lot of the fluff. I just wanted to see them together again. Their spark was undeniable. All in all, I really liked it.

This was book 2 for me, not only in this series, but from this author. Missy definitely has a talent for weaving a story. This was a harder read for me than the novella only because it touched on domestic abuse (which I was not expecting) and it had the miscommunication trope (not a favorite of mine). But she did a great job of keeping me on your toes and not being able to predict what happens next. Can't wait to see what she does in her next novel. Thank you for the ARC.

god anton sucked. the HEA was had. i just felt like things kinda fell apart for me with charlotte and devlin because she was not a likeable character for a lil bit there. she was majorly going through something but wasn’t communicating at all in the slightest which sends me into a spiral because literally just talk???? god it ruins a book for me. otherwise, very fun. loved the muse and the artist moment. 3.25/5

Arc review :

Enjoyed this story I enjoyed Charlotte and Delvin’s story and the development of their relationship.

I feel that once this picked up at about 50% the book really captured my interest.

More plot driven than spicy I’d give it a 🌶️ .

Overall, I enjoyed this book!

Thank you for this opportunity!

Wonderful Muse Story

This two book series was a fantastic read, showing how life can take you through so many obstacles. I loved the drama and the meaningful lessons the 2 main characters experienced on their journey of self-discovery and finding their happily ever after. Nicely done.

This book can do better with devlin's pov. She's annoying please she yap too much, her nightmares alone cost around 3-5 pages. Its a cute story, lots of potential. But dragging by the fmc monologue's. I love slowburn, but slowburn on second book is a bit useless for me, its okay I still love the story anyway.

Devlin is the standard, Charlotte is annoying .

The book was cute but the entire thing was one miscommunication trope after another and I HATE that trope...so personally it was not for me.

I've been patiently waiting to catch back up with Devlin & Charlotte ever since I finished Splatter Me, last year! It was so worth the wait!
I absolutely loved getting to know Devlin (not Devo, although obviously Devo is mouthwateringly delicious). I was so not expecting to get emotional towards the end, that definitely caught me off guard!!!! (in the best way).
Charlottes personality is so 100% relatable. I really felt seen by her inner thoughts and thought process. I feel like we would be good friends in real life if I knew her.
I can't get over how swoon worthy Devlin was in this one, always putting her wants and wishes first, while also respecting the boundaries he placed on himself when it came to her.
This was JUST as amazing as Splatter Me, and I can't wait to see what happens with the next couple!!!! I'm so excited. While this one doesn't have as much spice as the first, this book was full of growth and tension and rebuilding trust.

ARC BOOK REVIEW ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4/5 🌶🌶🌶3/5

Wow, this second part really did not go in the way I expected. After the first novella the characters backstories really developed and this allowed for some emotional scenes.

Charlotte is taking in the high life that the art society scene can bring with her new boyfriend Anton. Devo throws a spanner in the works by returning from his tour early and the pair find themselves fighting their natural attraction. An art contest at the very studio where they previously collaborated forces them to work together again. Charlotte struggles with her feelings of insecurity, she tries to get over her past relationship with Devo and begins to question her current relationship with Anton. This series is an interesting take on the different elements of control that we exert and allow within our lives, and this second part really focuses on our shared vulnerabilities. The tension is high in this "will they, wont they" romance.

Missy’s shape me takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster, through a diary-like format that evokes a strong 2000s chick flick. The story unfolds with quite a bit of internal monologue, which personally isn’t my favourite and the writing style felt quite simplistic at times, which isn’t my personal favourite. But it adds to the raw, relatable and unfiltered emotions and characters in the story.

Quotes:
“My favourite form of cardio, you ask? Jumping. Jumping to conclusions”

The romance is intense with lingering themes of devotion and admiration.
“I will forever by his muse”
“Tell me what you need. Tell me where you are”

spice level, I’d rate it a 2—present, but not overwhelming. If you enjoy angst-filled love stories, you might find this one entertaining. However, if you prefer more nuanced storytelling it may not be your cup of tea.

Released on February 10, Shape Me is a nostalgic, drama-filled read that’s perfect for fans of diary-style narratives and whirlwind romances.
