SOS Hotel #9

SOS Hotel: Icy Reception

Rate this book
What happens when you throw a whole bunch of Lost Ones in a posh hotel, sprinkle in some grown humans who like to play dress-up, add a twist of sinister vibes, a quirky treasure hunt, a spooky riddle, and some yummy sandwiches?

Wait. You don’t know? F*ck, me neither. I guess we’re gonna find out.

Some folks will probably get unalived—not our fault. Adam will want to help, because he’s nice like that. And Fancy Fangs is gonna sleep through it—or get his fine ass kidnapped. Because he’s ancient and mostly useless.

Anyway, if folks are dying, why we gotta be heroes? It’s not like we’re famous for saving people. Oh wait… f*ck. Then there’s the whole magic snowstorm that rolls in, and now we’re stuck with Mr. Creepy Concierge, cameras in inappropriate places, and have I mentioned the axe murderer?

Just another day on the road… But so we’re all clear, we’re definitely not on the run.

SOS HOTEL: Icy Reception is the second book in a three part mini-series that takes place AFTER the main eight books in the SOS HOTEL series. If you haven't read the main books, don't start here. If you have read all previous books, then buckle up, babycakes. Sh*t's about to get real.

Minnesota!! Trapped in an icy hotel full of creepy vibes,
human popsicles, and drugged little sandwiches. I have a huge appreciation for the way all of these stories are so incredibly different yet somehow manage to follow the same main plot line. Our trio is still on the run or vacation, I guess we’ll never know. I literally don’t think any of these books will be less than five stars. I enjoyed this one as much as the past eight. Tom Collins makes an appearance, putting a dent through all the mysterious stuff while complaining about how stupid everyone is. I missed Tom. I also really liked Wesley, another character who is introduced and a vampire that has officially eased his way onto Zee's “not so bad” vampire list. I’m so excited to finally pick up the last book of this series but so sad at the same time. These guys have been incredible to read about!! And I love every single one of their personalities. Hopefully they will finally get to relax and Adam can be the last of his kind without having to worry about anyone trying to tear him down.

It took me a while to get through this one, several days, even though I raced through all the previous books. I think my enthusiasm has waned a little in the meantime.
And the story in this book isn't really that exciting either. To me, it feels like the final showdown is just being unnecessarily dragged out.
Regardless, this book was still entertaining.
But, in my opinion, there's still not enough time between Adam and Zee. Or for all three of them together, in general. There are just too many distractions. And the few moments that are really sweet and romantic and, yes, hot, always end so abruptly.
Well, there's only one book left, so let's see if the final installment can win me over better.

“It says to push bell, imma push bell.” Zee deliberately smacked it again.
Ding!
“Remind me never to gift him a squeaky toy,” Victor remarked under his breath.
🤭🤭🤭

“Oh-kay then. What about a manicure?” Zee’s eyes brightened at the idea. “Yes, let me paint your nails! Fuckin’ rainbows! I can braid your hair. Oh my fuck, yes. Why have I not done that yet?!”
Victor turned to me, deliberately ignoring Zee’s offer of a makeover. “Would you like me to accompany you downstairs? Please. Immediately.”
🤣😂🤣

“Now, if you’ll excuse us, Victorveus, Adam is going to fuck me half blind using his mouth, and I am more than ready for it.” 😳😳😳

I was provided an e-copy of the book by the author in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

✅ Tom Collins
✅ New setting

✅ Action and magic
✅(🆗) Plot
❗️❗️Trigger warnings: mostly the same as usual; mentions of drugs, a few murders on the side, some blood

This ninth book felt like a weird murder mystery, happening in a fancy Hotel with weird vibes. When Zee, Adam, and Victor booked a room at the Stephanie Hotel, they were not expecting to find dead people or to be locked in their rooms at night. They could let it go and just move on, but of course, Adam feels like they must help the poor guests of the Stephanie Hotel and figure out who is killing guests, how, and why.

Zee snorted, but his tail lashed. “Do you think the barman serves cocaine chasers?”
“I doubt it.”
“Fuck I miss Tom.” Zee gulped his wine.
“Zodiac,” Victor rumbled. “Has it occurred to you that you likely have a drug addiction?”
“Pfft, drugs are great. How else am I gonna deal with my PTSD, ADHD, and all the other acronyms I’m collecting?”
“Therapy?” Victor suggested.

As usual, Victor tried to keep everyone in line, Adam decided to help save everybody even if they already had their long list of problems to overcome, and Zee just disregarded everything that was said to him and did whatever he wanted to… Yet, it works and they keep on saving people and kicking asses.

“The demon is the brawn, Adam’s the bait, and the brains of this incompetent trio is currently locked in the cellar,” Tom said. “I wouldn’t hold your breath if you’re waiting for them to save the day.”

Once again, Tom Collins was there to save the day and insult our trio, and once again, I wished we would see more of him. He had to stay at the SOS Hotel to make sure the Hotel kept on running while Adam, Zee, and Victor were absent, and he made sure to let them know how useless they were and how he was doing a better job than they ever could.

On a side note, while I enjoyed the plot overall, I find that Adam decided to trust Wesley too easily. It was very convenient. I know it fits with his sunny and slightly naïve character, but he still approached him at first because he thought Wesley was suspicious and ended up believing everything Wesley told him without a doubt.

“Aren’t you curious?”
His purple eyebrows hiked up his forehead. “Nope.”
“Really?” He was always curious.
“No fuckin’ way.” He folded his arms. “Curiosity killed the bat. Do you wanna be like the bats, Kitten? Extinct?”
“Bats are not extinct,” Victor said.
“Well, they would be if they went chasing after creepy riddles.”

The gang is still on the run, and they seem to be heading towards Florida for the final book of this series (the actual final this time). I can’t wait to see how they will defeat Adam’s brother, and I also hope we will see them get their HEA at their hotel, too.

Get this: Our fav trio is still definitely not on the run, just on a fun, innocent road trip that lands them in Minnesota of all places in a creepy hotel in the middle of a (magical?) snow storm where a LARP event takes place and mysterious things happen.
Like cameras everywhere and no phone signal and guests being locked into their rooms at night, like potentially drugged lollipops, like a dead body that appears out of nowhere and then vanishes just as quickly, like ominous clues that lead them on a treasure hunt, like a suspicious concierge with a mono brow, an axe-murderer on the loose and a centuries old secret lurking in the basement. Fun times indeed 😏

And then there’s Zee jealous 😩 and Daddy Spice smiling and naked 😮‍💨 and Adam bubbling over with love for his vicious and utterly lovely companions 😍
I don’t think I will ever get enough of them 🫠

Loved it. Off to Florida we go, for the (this time for real apparently) final instalment of the series. Can’t wait!

“Agreement is not necessary when one is stating a fact.”
“Remind me why I love you again?”
Victor grinned… and as it was so rare, Zee and I stopped to stare. He cleared his throat and wiped the smile off his face. “Apologies. Zodiac’s confession briefly undermined my stoic barriers.”

This was the SOS Hotel management team back at their best!

I really enjoyed the disaster they found themselves in this time and I loved how Tom Collins just saves the day, berates them for being clueless and slow and then disappears when it suits him 😂 I think he might be my favourite character in this series.

The dramatics were OTT as usual, Zee disregarded every single instruction he was given, and Victor ended up needing rescuing again but somehow it just works. Adam is still burying his head in the sand about why they're actually on the run though, so I am super looking forward to the next book even if it is going to be set in Florida, which will apparently be the end...again? I'm not sure yet if I believe it will actually be the end though!

"He broke away, brushed his cheek against mine, and breathed hard against my ear. “You make my heart sing, Kitten."

And just like that we're up to the (second!) penultimate novella of this fabulously hilarious series by the fabulously hilarious Ariana Nash - SOS Hotel: Icy Reception.

This instalment sees our gorgeous boys Adam, Zee and Victor making a pit stop in snowy Minnesota at The Stephanie Hotel, where the resident chef is definitely not drugging the guests and there definitely isn't an ancient fae living in the basement, freezing people. Thank goodness there's no reason not to draw attention to themselves, because the boys are absolutely, definitely NOT on the run....

Such great palate cleansers and so brilliantly written, I've loved every word.

Can't wait for the final (final!) instalment as the boys head to Florida in SOS HOTEL: End of the Road coming soon!

Another fun exciting adventure with our fun loving trio! This one was unique and creepy! I loved everything about it. From look-a-likes, to frigid temperatures, to creepy hotels, a sassy murder bartender, and steamy powers you’re not going to want to miss this!!

I had so much fun with this additional installment and the last one promises to be so good!! I can’t wait!!

" 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗲. 𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙣."

Hell hath no fury like a dragon protecting those he loves. If you thought the motel Adam, Zee, and Victor stayed at in book 8 was bad, then prepare yourself folks. It's got nothing on the Stephanie Hotel, the newest accommodations inhabited by our favorite trio. The beds may be comfier and the bathroom luxurious, but at least the motel let you leave when you wanted.

From the moment our MCs stepped into their room at the Stephanie Hotel you just knew something wasn't right. I'm pretty sure after exploring a bit Adam was also convinced, but after days spent driving on the road, I don't blame him for wanting a little R&R. Not to mention, Adam is the poster boy for "let's pretend everything is fine when it really isn't."

Yes, there was a lot of crazy happening at the hotel, but there were also a couple of surprisingly sweet moments snuck in. Victor really does have a way with words. There were also more spicy times than we usually get which I was super thrilled for. I'm bummed that the next book is the last and Nash has been pretty vocal about her meaning it this time. I just know I am going to miss these three for a long time to come when it's over.

A Joyfully Jay review.

Adam, Zee, and Victor are still on the road — they will tell you they are definitely not on the run — and they are no closer to a solution to the problem that forced Adam to run in the first place. This episode brings the group to a posh hotel and they wonder if this is what the surroundings of their SOS Hotel could one day be like. While there have been incidents that have plagued the SOS Hotel, the trio is not at all prepared for the scene that unfolds in front of them at this hotel.

The book prior to this introduced the story of why Adam felt that he needed to run. That situation is referenced here, but this book is not about that at all. It is about what sinister happenings are going on at this hotel they land at.

I still have a fondness for the characters here and hope that the last installment can provide more closure and I will look forward to that.

Absolutely loved it. I mean, a storm suddenly moves in when the SOS staff come in, there's a masked party (of sorts?? not exactly, but without giving it away, it is a costume-themed get-together that SOS management totally fit in) where people start disappearing, clues are dropped that don't really seem obvious but there's always some obnoxious know-it-all *cough*TomCollins*cough* figures out to help out the not all there heroes. It's a cozy mystery at it's fi--most messed up, actually. It's crazy. Of course it's crazy; if you're reading this, you've read the others and know this whole series is on crack...in the best possible way. Zee has found a new reason to be over-the-top sassy and cocky, Victor really is staying true to his nature of needing help despite being so darn powerful, and Adam is most definitely not running away from his brother.

Tom Collins was so frackin' amusing, as were several other supporting characters. Just a blast to read, I highly recommend it and I'm so sad there's only one book close and we're approaching the end....again. Maybe it won't happen again? Maybe there will be more in the future? Oh pretty please!

"It’s best we stay out of it entirely and act as though nothing untoward has taken place.”
I could do that. Acting normal in a crisis was an everyday event at the SOS Hotel. “Normal. Right, okay.”

Book 9 takes us to the Stephanie Hotel, where Adam, Zee and Victor are desperately trying to blend in with some rather familiar looking guests! I continue to enjoy their zany adventures, and it was kind of fun being in a hotel setting other then our usual at the SOS!

Snick.
“Did the door just lock?” Zee asked.

As we near the final book in this extended part of series, what I'm really living for is those soft quiet moments in between the action where the guys can just feel and exist with each other. Where they can reaffirm that they are in this together. Despite all they've gone through, there are still those weird little moments in early relationships where things get a little awkward (like when Zee It gives it that much more satisfaction to watch them muddle through things!

SOS HOTEL: End of the Road will be our final adventure with the trio, and while I'm really looking forwards to seeing their HEA-uninterrupted this time, I know I'll be sad when its over!

SOS Hotel: Icy Reception is a penultimate book (how are we already on the 9th book of this series?!?) in the SOS Hotel series by Ariana Nash. And honestly, previous reading isn’t just recommended, it’s absolutely obligatory.

Once again, we follow our favourite disaster trio into yet another mess, but this time with a murder mystery twist!

When they stop at the Stephanie Hotel in snowy Minnesota, they’re just hoping for a quiet stay. Instead, of course, trouble finds them. Here they find dead bodies, creepy hotel staff, and locked doors at night.

As always, Adam can’t just leave it alone. Even with everything else they’ve got going on, he’s determined to figure out who’s behind the murders and help the other guests. Victor does his best to keep everyone on track (with the usual mixed results), while Zee…well, Zee is still very much Zee… completely ignores every plan and does whatever he feels like. But despite all that, their chaotic approach works. How and why it works will remain one of the great mysteries.

Like I mentioned at the beginning, the mystery itself leans into that cosy murder vibe, but with the distinct flavour of out chaos trio. It’s fun, it’s a little cheesy in the best way, and sprinkled with sweet moments between Victor, Zee, and Adam.

Although we are already on 9th book, I love how the dynamic between Adam, Zee and Victor still continues to grow. There are some genuinely sweet moments between Victor and Zee, which made my Reyzee loving heart very happy. 🥰❤️ Also… jealous Zee? Yes, please! 😁❤️

As usual, the book is funny, messy, and full of snarky banter. It’s absolute chaos, but it’s also comfort. And honestly, it’s just impossible not to love these characters more with every disaster they stumble into.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my unbiased review.

My heart is in pieces on the floor because I don’t really know what to do with it.

One book left? Just one?? I refuse to accept this knowledge.

The plot was cheesy, cosy murder mystery plot, but make it fucking perfect and hilarious and achingly sweet and a little spicy and did I mention how goddamn precious these guys are? Because they’re so fucking precious. I never realised the whole “burn it all down for you” vibe could be so… mushy.

Fuck. It’s all so G O O D. Every book just gets better, and this one did it for me in a big way. Also, I still want to toss out there that if you’re not reading every single page, you’re missing out on some plain ol’ fucking funny content in the typically boring bits. The places the author has worked Zee into are 😗🤌.

5/5. My undying love of this one most likely manifested because the literary Djinn platonic LomL was present for more pages. Tom Collins is bae, the end. I would do very morally black things for a book—really, an entire series—about just him and the lovely Madam Matase as his partner-in-crime. You can find me in the corner, curled into the fetal position, sobbing.

I love having these extra stories after the main series and will be sad to see the finale for these 3.

Stuck in a strange hotel, the trio has to figure out just what on earth is happening, all while trying to keep a low profile to stay hidden from Adam's brother.

I feel like we got a lot of sweet moments between Victor and Zee this time out and it fed my Reyzee loving heart! It was absolutely adorable. Rather than being in the middle of them, Adam got to see just how far both his lovers have come in their bond.

There were a few steamy times between Zee and Adam too, bringing full circle a plot thread from the main series in a clever way.

So much fun! I just know #10 is going to be great too

I incorrectly thought these after the main plot books were going to be mostly one shots or very short stories. I'm so glad I picked them up because I'm loving being back with the world's most heroic threesome! There is more one-off mysteries going on that the gang has to solve, and it's very enjoyable to see how they go about doing so (with the help of one trusty Djinn bartender of course), but I'm also so intrigued by the overarching story with Adam's brother. It wasn't as central in this one, but you can always feel him lurking in the background (and he does pop in to stir some things up!). My review makes it seem so serious, but it's still our silly shenanigans crew that I love! It's wacky and ridiculous and everything I love from this series.

Shennanigans! Drugs! LARPing! I just love how they aren't even looking for trouble, but stumble upon it anyway. And they're heroes, so it's not like they can just leave, right? The Stephanie Hotel really doesn't hold a candle to the SOS Hotel, but it does have a dangerous fae in the basement. Tom Collins really is the best barman. I really enjoy how each new story develops the relationship between our three main characters. They're very sweet and chaotic together, and there are multiple of them in this book.

Once again, I’m in a position where there’s only one book left, and I’m so sad it’s almost over. I just love Fancy Fangs, Zee, and Adam; they are so much darn fun. This latest has them in a cold place, dead bodies disappearing, new feelings, new plans, and so much more. Knowing this is the next to last book is bittersweet, but what a wonderful way to go. I’m really looking forward to the next book to see how this fun trio is going out…I’m sure it’ll be with a…wait for it…bang. LOL! Highly recommend. I’m in love with every book, and I laugh full heartily with each one. How can you not love this trio?! Sexy demon Zee, Fancy Fangs Victor, and one average pseudo human/dragon Adam. Destiny lands our heroes in the middle of another mystery, and being saviors again. What I loved also was see more of Tom Collins coming to the rescue. I do love his attitude. We need a book just for Tom!

I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

🏩❄️Is the next book in the series really the end of the road this time? Not that I'd complain either way. SOS Hotel, overall, has been the epitome of silly joy and I loved every wild minute of it! There's not enough of that in the world today but happily the one Nash has created delivers fun in all its goofy glory and we're all better off for it!

🛎️🧊And like every single installment before it, SOS HOTEL 9: Icy Reception was the high energy blast we love to love! There was supernatural shenanigans and a mega boss with a bad attitude, and ofc by the end of this adventure the "allergic to laying low" SOS MGMT gained more cred! The road tripping trio can't seem to keep it on the DL, and lucky for socials and LARPers, lost ones and average humans, they can't help being heroes whenever they stumble into trouble!

🐸🐊I laughed. I laughed a lot. I don't know why i find Adam and Zee's lack of animal knowledge a riot, or why Tom Collins' sass makes me flutter inside, but i love that this series fosters a carefree space to just go with it, and it's been invaluable during these tough times!

🐉🧛😈Ariana Nash has been serving from time, and i'm beyond stoked that i got to experience another facet of her extraordinary talent with this delightful, entertaining series! I'll be sad when SOS is over, but honestly it gave so much more than i expected, and i'm sure i'll be rereading this in the future when i need the boost!!! Adam, Zee and Victor have a special place in my heart and i could not have asked for a better time chilling with SOS MGMT! Can't wait for the wrap and for everything else Ariana Nash will release because i'm sure it'll be awesome and unique and badass and worth every second of the ride!

I was provided a free e-copy of the book by the author for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks, you for this!

I think so far this one was my least favorite one of this series. It was a little bit too goofy for my taste.

Zee, Adam & Victor are still road tripping, while being on the run from Adam’s dragon evil brother. They are stopping at the Stephanie’s Hotel, while a larping convention is taking place. The trio is pretending to be lost one. They quickly realize that some people are even dress-up as them!

They get locked in there after a unnatural snowstorm hit, and of course some poor human victims get killed.

It was funny to see Zee being jealous of another vampire, looking for his friend, giving attention to Victor. The demon is still pretending to hate him.

Zee is his fabulous self, like to create chaos & trouble and doesn’t follow Adam’s instructions nor orders.
Victor is older, more calm and down to earth, trying to find a solution to their problems.
Tom Collins does also have a little cameo, even if he is still at the SOS Hotel.

The plot about Adam’s brother is put on the side, until the end of the book, and this volume felt ore like a “monster of the week” adventure. It seems less smutty, but was more “meta” and over the top.

It reminded me a lot of the episode “The Real Ghostbusters” from the tv show Supernatural. (Which is not a bad thing since I loved this show).

To be honest, I am ready to say goodbye to Zee, Victor & Adam. Next book will be the last one, and I am hoping that the dragon plot will have a satisfying conclusion. Those three deserve some peace & quiet time!

Zee, Adam, and Victor attract chaos like magnets, and the icy landscape surrounding Stephanie Hotel did nothing to cool off the fire that drove these three heroes to investigate its suspicious doings. I have come to adore the scattershot approach the trio takes to solving mysteries, and this time around was another whirlwind of entertaining mayhem. Between the camera in the bedroom, the doors that locked overnight, and the stoic staff members who acted like nothing was wrong when guests disappeared, there was plenty to set off my internal alarms that something was not right about this hotel. The more Adam, Victor, and Zee investigated, the more trouble they unearthed, and I was excited to ride along and see how everything would play out. My favorite trio kept up their usual spirited banter along the way, took a particularly creative approach to powering up before the final fight, and delivered an explosive takedown after any semblance of a plan fell apart. Adam's brother didn't feature prominently in this book, but the threat of his presence propelled the trio forward to new destinations. Zee, Victor, and Adam didn't get a ton of time to relax together in this installment, but they shared some particularly swoony declarations of love that reinforced how committed they were to each other. I'm all geared up to see what havoc these three will unleash with Florida as their destination, and I know that the reality will be more delightfully unhinged and chaotic than I'm imagining.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

I find this hilarious, absolutely entertaining and need the finale in the worst bestest possible way.

Rating: 4.5🌈

Icy Reception is another grand slam adventure in the epic fantasy series of the SOS HOTEL characters and their journey through life, horrifying scenarios, looking for their HEA or whatever suits them.

There’s so much to quote, hilarious scenes and fabulous moments here. LARPing in the extreme, which is saying something.

I’ll never think about concierge’s and desk bells “ding, ding, ding ding, ding” without a certain delightfully chaotic demon in mind. He’s needs one, yes, he does.

I find this hilarious, absolutely entertaining and need the finale in the worst bestest possible way.

Love this world and characters.

Too many days on the road and a snowstorm in Minnesota have our heroes checking into the Stephanie Hotel. Right into a Lost Ones LARP convention. No one believes that they're the real Heroes of San Francisco, until two vampires are turned into man-sized blocks of ice. There's an ax carrying golem and a creepy concierge. The trio decides to solve the mystery. If only to keep word from Agent Leomaris and having him revoking their Hero status when he finds out they walked away and let humans be harmed.
The plot is crazy zany, fast paced. Tom Colins pops in to help solve some riddles. He's his usual sweet self. He tells someone "The demon is the brawn, Adam's the bait, and the brains of this incompetent trio is currently locked in the cellar." (p 146). Awww, he missed them.
Zee gets the best lines, and he gets to show off his warrior side. He also becomes quite enamored with a shiny, silver service bell. And while they're sharing some steam, Adam may have an idea how to defeat his brother. Nash writes toe curling spice, but it's the softer scenes with Adam and his men that make the story. That will be fun.
I received an advanced copy of this book from GRR and this is my review.

So I’ve read all the books in this series and they’re super fun. To confirm you cannot read this as a standalone. You’ll miss out on loads of background that is important to the relationship between our MCs and the overarching plot.

As with all the books it is single POV by Adam. I prefer MPOV but it’s fine here as I don’t need Zee or Victor’s POV since there’s no relationship angst. They’re together and happy. So Adam can narrate the plot.

Naturally, it’s our dynamic trio, so they end up randomly investigating a dodgy hotel they’re staying at. I liked how Adam is always trying to be positive whilst Zee is crazily getting up to shenanigans and Victor is just sighing in the background.

The sex scenes are hot, and just the right amount given the length of the book. I really enjoy how our MCs just work, they tease each other and understand one another’s emotions.

I’d like if the book was a bit longer but that’s because I enjoy our MCs and want more!

I received this as an ARC from gayromancereviews.com and make this review based on my own thoughts. I would have read this anyway, regardless of the ARC, as I’ve read all the books in the series. I saw the ARC offering and thought, why not, given I was intending to read this once it came out.

This is part of a series, and definitely not a standalone. Adam, Zee and Victor are not on the run, and definitely not still running from Adam's brother. They definitely don't end up in snowy hotel in Minnesota that's hiding a crazy snow fae who's been kidnapping people and putting them on ice in the basement, and a management that's been facilitating said fae by drugging guests and locking them in their rooms at night.

This series is complete bonkers insanity and I love it. Adam, Zee and Victor just fit together, and I'm here for Zee and Victor snarking at each other and Adam being anything but a regular human - sometimes you do just need to eat people or burn them to a crisp so they stop kidnapping people and putting them on ice. This is fun, bonkers, with sexy times to power up Zee who's honestly beyond fabulous most of the time, and Tom Collins yet again reluctantly saving the day. These books are a real highlight when they come out and I can't get enough of them. This is another fun entry to a mental series that I can't recommend enough.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
