Breaking Me

Rate this book
Everything in her heart belongs to the man in the black trench coat, but the collar around her neck tells a different story.

Living in Scappoose, Oregon isn't exactly what you'd call thrilling. It's all blue jeans and cornfields as far as the eye can see, and I'm suffocating here. I've got bigger dreams than this town can hold, I want to be one of those girls who actually makes it past the county line. But just when I think I've got my escape plan figured out, fate decides to mess with me in the shape of a six-foot-four southern redhead named Colt. And God, this guy is everything I never knew I needed. This so-called bad boy falls into my life, thinking he needs to save me from everything. Little did we both know, he did.

The thing is, there are real monsters out there, predators that are waiting for the right moment of weakness to strike. Evils that even his broad shoulders might not be able to protect me from. I don't know if we can fight our way through all this darkness, or if he can really keep me safe like he says. Hell, I don't even know if we'll get that fairy tale ending everyone talks about. But here we are.

Well I finished my review of this book a few weeks ago in my reading Journal. I realized I forgot to post it on social media and this is an ARC book.
Book review:

Breaking Me
I got this far into the synopsis of this book and knew I was in for a wild ride.
Here's what of the synopsis I read:"Everything in her heart belongs to the man in the black trench coat, but the collar around her neck tells a different story.

Living in Scappoose, Oregon isn't exactly what you'd call thrilling. It's all blue jeans and cornfields as far as the eye can see, and I'm suffocating here."

Current Arc book I finished.
What a wild ride I did receive.
This book has charisma lovable characters. And I absolutely love the colt is a 6-foot tall Ginger southern man.

Breaking Me was one emotional ride. This is Remi and Colt’s story but we get to meet so many other important characters throughout that it makes us fall in love with them all the more.

However, as the title suggests, this broke me. Remi seriously goes through it and it is hard to read at times, thankfully she has some close friends/family who are there to support and love her but it doesn’t mean the hard part is over. Even harder is the wait for what comes next - that cliffhanger, I’m now speechless.

One last thing though, after reading Breaking Me, this “Everything in her heart belongs to the man in the black trench coat, but the collar around her neck tells a different story” hits so different & hurts so much more.

This book was one that had me pretty much hooked from start to finish. Rem and colts story is awesome, the whole crew is great. I love that you get to see different points of view throughout the book. Be prepared though, she ends in a cliff hanger. I think this was a great first book from Ruki and I’m looking forward to more in the future.

Amazing book, definitely a emotional rollercoaster but I totally fell in love with Remi and Colt. This one had me on hold, and I almost finished it in one sitting (only because of life, I couldn't, sad I know 🤣)
The spice was so great and oh it scratched so nicely the itch of morally gray men doing literally anything for their woman. Cannot wait for the next book! 🩷😭

Everything in her heart, it belongs to the man in the pitch black trench coat. Everyone else around her sees something else. They say something else, too. Her body agrees with them, too. Her body agrees with them all. Why? The collar around her neck, it's screaming at her that she can't love him.

It's not thrilling to live in Scappoose, Oregon. Really, it's just a blue jeans, tank tops, and cornfields with some wheat fields sprinkled in every so often, and you'd think anyone or anything could thrive here. Her, not her. She's stagnating, suffocating. Her dreams are so much bigger than this town can contain, She wants to make it past the country line, not be one of those girls who end up turning back.

Just when Remi thinks that she's got her escape plan figured out, fate decides to step in and mess with her. But, its shape is in that of a six-foot-four redhead named Colt. And this guy is everything that Remi never knew that she never knew she needed. The bad boy falls into her life. He thinks he needs to save her from everything. What he doesn't know is that they need to save each other.

The truth is, there are real monsters out there. Predators who are waiting for just the right moment of weakness to strike. I know that he can't protect me. It doesn't matter how strong he is or how broad his shoulders are. And I don't know if we can fight our way through, if he can keep me safe from the darkness like he promises he can, I honestly don't know that we will get the fairy tale ending I keep hearing everyone talking about. And yes, here we are.

Through the ups and downs and all the struggles, Colt stands with Remi, always having her back, and their relationship has stood the test, their bond only growing stronger. I loved the flawless love and dedication Colt has for Remi, it's absolutely perfect. Breaking Me is their story and shows how they grow together and how they start taking steps into adulthood.

Andy, he triggered me. Honestly, he triggered my PTSD a bit as I am an abuse survivor. I give Ruki Williams credit for her perfect portrayal of an abuser and their characteristics. Andy reminds me of my ex-husband. Andy just has that aura of being an abuser.

And Remi's dad, I was so mad that he didn't recognize the signs that Remi was being abused. It just made me mad and sick and took me back to when I was in that position and I remember that place and I remember my mom begging me to listen and hear her how I was in a bad place and I needed to get out.

I have to say the strength that Remi showed in getting away from Andy and how sadly accurate the portrayal of the legal system this was. (At least it was accurate for where I am).

My heart broke, got ripped out, stopped out, shredded, and shoved back in my chest at the end of this book. Dang! How this book ended, I didn't see it coming. The tragedy, I couldn't hold back the tears. I just let them fall and soak my pillow.

I can honestly say that it was so strange reading about all these struggles that I went through in my late twenty to mid thirty's. I had a hard time handling it at that age. It was never something a teenager should have had to think about handling.

And with Remi's age, how close she was to her dad, her commitment to rugby I don't see how someone didn't realize that something was wrong, that Remi's mood was deteriorating, and that she was changing and not for the better, the weight she was losing, bruises, and her injuries.

I didn't believe it, and I didn't believe that she would live in her workout clothes, including going to practice and games. I think this is the only reason that no one saw the bruises and injuries. She could keep them hidden. The workout clothes just conflicted with the ideas of her being active and so athletic of a student.

It would have honestly been more believable if she'd been in college, not living at home. But, I can forgive that as this story is so beautiful and moving. I just loved this book so much.

I really hope that there will be a second book and continue the story. I want to see what happens next, and I really hope that there will be some consequences for Andy for everything that he put Ruki through and everything that he did and everything that he's done.

This review has spoilers:

Remi's and Colt's relationship goes through many struggles, but the struggles only strengthen their bond. Colt's love and dedication to Remi is flawless. This story shows how they grow together and start taking steps into adulthood.

Andy's insanely abusive nature made me very angry. Though Remi is very close to her dad, I felt myself angry at him at times for not recognizing the signs that Remi was being abused. Remi shows incredible strength in getting away from Andy, but I hate how even the legal system failed to protect her.

The ending of this book... Wow! Talk about ripping my heart out. I did not see that tragedy coming, and the tears fell as I read it.

It is a little weird reading about all these intense issues and struggles in teenagers. I felt like with Remi's age, her closeness to her dad, and her commitment to rugby, someone should have noticed her deteriorating mood, her weight loss, and her bruises and injuries. It didn't feel completely realistic that she would be regularly in workout clothes going to practice and games, but nobody saw the injuries she had. I know she wore long sleeves to hide her injuries, but that conflicted a little bit with the idea of her being an active athletic student. It might have been more realistic if she was a college student not living at home instead of a high school student. However, the story is so moving that is easy to look past this.

I hope there is a second book to this, and I hope in that second book Andy suffers consequences for all he has done.

I can relate to this author as I am a dv survivor and my husband is my second chance at love ..  This story is truly heartbreaking and I love it .

I love Remi and Colt's story but also we get to meet soo many amazing characters that are important throughout the story which will make you fall inlove  with them .  This made me tear when i was reading this   book as seeing how much Remi goes through and seeing how she has some close friends / family that are there to  support and still love her .... That cliffhanger got me so good and just left me so spechless

My head is reeling after finishing Breaking Me! It was a roller-coaster, and I loved every minute! I don't want to give anything away, but Remi is such an amazing and strong character. It does end on a cliffhanger, but that just makes me more excited to see what happens next! You're probably gonna need some tissues....but it's absolutely worth a read!

There is some heavy stuff in there, so definitely check the trigger warnings before jumping in.

arc review - thank you Ruki for choosing me for an arc!
i loved the multiple POVs throughout the book and how you didn’t get overwhelmed with the switch of POVs.
this book kept me emotional, it took a couple chapters to get into it but after i didn’t want to put it down. I was so happy to see Remi so happy and then my heart was ripped out of my chest lol. i hope they finally get justice in book 2, i can not wait to read the next book.

Okay so this book had me going and I’m giving a 4 star instead of a 5 star due to a few spelling errors with a few unanswered questions I had at the beginning. The book was relatable on how trauma really does mess with you and how having a good supportive partner/friends and family are amazing. The cliffhanger has me waiting for the next one to come out. Plus Remi and Colts relationship has me in a chokehold.

This was an arc read for me. This book was an emotional rollercoaster in the best ways. The storyline was rough to read at times with what Remi went through. Just showed how strong she was. Colt was amazing and was always there for her through everything. I loved the characters and the plot twists. What an emotional ending. Can’t wait to read the second book.

Honestly the overall plot was good but the writing could use just a tad bit more work. Of course no one is perfect but I just found it very hard to follow at times. There were also many grammar issues which I hope will be fixed before the release. Plot and Story wise it was good could just use a little bit of editing. Remi and Colts story was amazing, but oh my goodness. Def a wild ride for sure.

A coming of age and self discovery that will break your heart and leaving you gasping for more. This was a suck me in read and I found myself not wanting to put it down!

With characters that are easily relatable, ones you won’t be able to stand and others you will fall in love with as the story brings to light the heart trenching trauma of our FMC. Our MMC is one you will melt for and pump your fist to the air routing for him!

Such a well put together story that will leave you wanting so much more and ready to dive into the next book in the Breaking Me series. I’m ready NOW!!!

This is a 5 star read, but I had a little trouble reading some parts, I had to re-read them, but thats on me. You need to read the triggers if you have any, and know this is a high school story with ages 17+.

One girl's journey through high-school, experiencing first love with likeable Colt, but also dealing with a second love that is toxic with an abusive and controlling boy named Andy that you are quick to hate. The struggles to regain her sense of self, make friends and put Andy behind her are so relatable. This author sucks you in with her words and storytelling.

Breaking Me was sun unexpected! Going into this story I want sure what to expect, and it certainly wasn't this. Colt and Remi are so drawn to one another that you can't help but root for them since they came crashing together, but after some events a true monster steps in and threatens to destroy any chance they have as a future! I could not put this book down. Definitely need this on your TBR!
It's dark, sexy, and leaves you wanting so much more!

First things first do not ignore the trigger warning at the beginning of the book. Second the book is amazing yes it's hard to read at the beginning because of what's going on in the book but it does get better. I love Lonnie he is incredible, I wish I had him as my Dad. Ruki did a great job at describing the characters. I cant wait for the second book

I will say I was a little torn with this book. Sometimes reading about underage young love makes me question if I should be reading about it at my age. 😂 And I will say, it was done very respectfully. But after I got over that, this book will have you in a rollercoaster of emotions.

Remi is a young teen who has an amazing family and friends. The relationship with her daddy, it hit so close to my heart. After she gets her first boyfriend, which is not the best relationship for her, things start to change for her.

Colt is also a teen and not one of the popular kids at school who has a bad rep. He meets Remi and instantly likes her, but feels he is too old for her. But they start to have a close friendship. He is very protective over her and just wants the best for her.

Colt is always there for Remi, even just as friends. He may have a harder exterior, but deep down he has a softer side to him.

Poor Remi…girl goes through some hard challenges in this book and my heart broke for her. It was hard to read. And the ending…crushed me. And the cliffhanger…I was not ready for it and wanted more right now.

3.5⭐️
I don’t feel right giving a younger love 🌶️ rating 😂

Wow is the best response to this book! I received this book and I can truly say Ruki Williams did an amazing job writing this book. Remi and colts story was truly touching, and even through the struggles there love grew way stronger. PSA Andy is a huge D**K and reminded me way to much of my ex it was so scary. The book was an emotional rollercoaster but it was one that was very freeing in a good kind way. I have been in remi shoes and know the struggle she felt. The saying in the blurb, "Everything in her heart belongs to the man in the black trench coat, but the collar around her neck tells a different story." It got hard cause I've never had an author pin point the war in my head during that crazy time of my past. Remi new what her heart wanted an needed but new her head and family an friends would say and pull different. I will say this just when I thought things were gonna end a different She through me a curveball. I will cherish this book and cant thank ruki Williams enough to have the courage to write this. I recommend anyone to read this, and I can not wait for more of remi and colts story!

I need book 2 asap. The plot of this story is pretty intense for most of it. It does slow down a bit and picks up again right around the last 5% of the book, but man did it pick up.
Remi's story is sort of gut wrenching. The trauma she goes through and bears in silence was heart breaking. Luckily Remi had Colt on her side and Colt would not give up on her. A lot of girls that go through what Remi did, doesn't have a Colt in their life to help pick up the pieces, but the way that he respects her and seeks help from her father for her trauma, healed something in me.
Ruki did an amazing job keeping the reader intrigued and captivated with the story line. The story is well done and the characters are wonderful and well written. Colt is every young girls dream and Remi is so down to earth. They are relatable and so is their entire little friend group. The story flows so well. It's easy to read and easy to understand even though the story is being told in multi-pov. I highly recommend giving this book a read, but please check the trigger warnings first!!

Breaking Me by Ruki Williams will make you laugh, make you cry & make you feel.

Remington "Remi" Arms has an amazing & loving family, good friends & rugby.
Colt Knight moves to Scapoose, Oregon to live with his grandma after his mom becomes addicted to drugs & has a mental breakdown.
Their worlds collide when Colt saves her from being ran over. When Colt is sent to another school for defending Remi & beating up her "best friend" Mickey, Remi meets Andy. It is then, by Andy's hands, that Remi learns what true physical pain is. It is also then that Remi learns Colt & his friends will stand by her through it all. Through her pain, emotional turmoil, nightmares & everything in between. If only someone had told Remi & Colt that sometimes our nightmares don't just stay on our dreams.....

I enjoyed this book. There were twists and turns. Ups and downs. The friend group really reminded me of my friends in high school. There were characters to love and characters to hate. The author does a great job of making the reader have a million different emotions while going on the journey with them. I would have enjoyed this book more if it was a story about adults. Even young adults in college would have been better for me personally. I love all things spice but I actually kind of skimmed those scenes in this books because I was reading about teenagers and that's not sexy to me. That being said with that cliff hanger it leaves you on I'm hoping there will be another book and I will plan to read that also ASAP.

What an emotional roller coaster Ruki Williams had given us, and for her first book...bravo!!! I was in love with the characters from the beginning. The book deals with some heavy situations but to be honest it happens more often then we all want to admit. Young love can be a dangerous thing, especially when control enters the picture.

Remi and Colt are the type of characters you root for. It seems that different events are preventing them from being together, that being a monster that at times has it's hold on Remi more than she wants. With the protection if Colt and the squad, Remi finds new friends, the meaning of living, and the ultimate gift of love.

Be warned this book does end on a cliffhanger but trust me you don't want to miss reading book 1 when book 2 comes out soon. I am so proud of Ruki Williams for putting an important story like this one out in the world.

Breaking me is the prefect title cause this book broke me a few a times. I felt for Remi so much that poor girl goes through some hard stuff my heart broke for her. Some of it was harder to read the I thought it would be but the ending broke me all over again And the cliffhanger no it can’t be over like that i need so much more right now.

Breaking me bad so many highs and lows and twist and turns.

Colt always stands with Remi by her side no matter what, he has her back it was a very sweet love story in that aspect.

I absolutely love Remi and her dad’s relationship they are so close and loving it was beautiful to read.
