Vow of Vengeance

Rate this book
He demands revenge, and I’m the one he wants.

Ophelia

He breaks into my room, throwing my boyfriend out a window.
He tells me I’m coming with him, and when I fight back…
He punishes me in shameful ways that leave my skin on fire.

I’m a virgin. Lonely. Out of place in my world.

That doesn’t mean I belong in his sexual, dangerous, mafia one.
He wins, taking me to his house, and what he does to me on the drive…
Leaves me with my head a mess and a pool of arousal between my thighs.
He demands I live with him and become his wife or face consequences.

Do I keep fighting or marry the man who insists on corrupting me?

Haze

She’s barely legal, sweet as sugar, and I never should have taken her.
She’s young, beautiful, feisty, strong, and nothing like I’d imagined.
I want to claim her, exploring every inch of her virgin body.

I’m unlovable and unable to love.

Lucky for me, that doesn’t matter when she’s your revenge bride.
She’s my vengeance, a means to an end, a pawn in my games.
It’s only a marriage of convenience, nothing more.

So why am I desperate to make her love me?

FATE HAS PLAYED ME A DASTARDLY HAND

The story is a spinoff from the Twisted Mafia Kings that takes place in Scotland. It involved two warring groups, The King’s Mafia and The Hoax. The story will have ties to one of these groups. When Ophelia was young, she was with her father, who thrust her in the arms of a woman on the street, right before he was murdered. When found, her mother and maternal grandparents will take her and move from Scotland to Italy.

Harrison ‘Haze’ Bachman left his life in New York and moved to Italy, where he reports to Liam. He isn’t married, and learns if he plans to gain a position he wants, he will need to be a married man. He tried a dating app, only to be scammed and robbed—so he is out for vengeance, retribution, and he is going to take Ophelia as payment. What a shock when he shows up at her house, in her bedroom, and sends Carter scurrying out the window.

Haze: I know your mother owes me a lot of money. I know you’re the most precious thing in the world to her. And she must pay back the greatest debt of all.
Ophelia: What would that be?
Haze: Respect. Your entire family will learn—if you disrespect a man of the Bachman Brotherhood, the consequences will be painful.

Haze: Didn’t I tell you to stay in the car?
Ophelia: I’m not a child.
Haze: Yet somehow you’ve found yourself under the care of a daddy.

The story is mystery, suspense, and danger. It is facing the past, moving forward with the future, and discovering what matters the most. Marriage isn’t enough if there isn’t love and everything that the Bachman men hold dear. Haze was livid at the way he was played by Leah, who he was to meet after joining a dating app. Only Leah never showed, and someone bumped into and stole from him. He is determined to make her pay for her sins—but he doesn’t want Leah—once he sees Ophelia, she is the one he wants—it doesn’t matter that she is just eighteen and he is nearly twice her age.

“You have to care for your wife. Protect her. Put her above all else and all others.” –Liam Bachman

The story will have answers and closure for Haze and Ophelia. Their story is an emotional roller-coaster ride but has a resolution. It includes age-gap, dominance and submission, power exchange, and yes, even romance. The story doesn’t end on a cliffhanger but will segue into the next story that will involve Haze’s half-brother, Blaze.

This is a typical Shanna Handel Bachman story, and yet...it isn't. So what's different? The MMC....have to say he wasn't one of my favorites. He's a typical Bachman man in almost every sense, and if you've read the Bachman books, you know what that means. So, what's different?

Well, most Bachman men are not just dominant; they're ultra confident. They're not wishy-washy about falling in love. They know who they are; what they want, who they want and go after it. Even the ones who might have been avoiding love for what ever reason, know when the right woman comes along. Yes, they demand obedience (rules are for their women's safety...they do have enemies); and respect (it's the polite way to be...show respect, and more than respect will be returned).... they will love, indulge and pamper their women. Punishment is only when they're bratty, disrespectful or out of control. And they never harm or use innocents. This MMC was not any of that. At 35, he showed less maturity than the 18 yr old MFC....

Told he needed to be settled and married, to gain the promotion to captain that he so badly wants, he allows a Bachman wife to set up a dating site profile for him. However, the woman he believed he'd been interacting with and had set up to a meet, not did a catfish on him, but set him up to steal his wallet and then money from his bank account. Rather than confronting the woman herself as any Bachman man would...making the culprit pay, he decides to use her innocent,18 yr old daughter to get his vengeance. And by forcing a marriage, he'll finally get his promotion. When he discovers a marriage alone isn't sufficient...it must be a marriage of love... he whines and pouts because he's vowed never to love or trust again. He can be sweet to the MFC, but when things aren't going his way or he feels he's lost control, he "uses" her to feel in control again.

Honestly, the 18 yr old MFC shows more maturity and honesty than he does. Her only issue and confusion with him is his hot and cold attitude. It's the moments he's sweet and caring interspersed with his dominant and demanding control over her with out any caring or compassion that has her confused and doubting. It's a wonder she falls in love with him. If not the for times he was sweet and her daddy issues, I doubt she would have. She's actually the first to admit to love and has to make him realize he does love her and she deserves better.

So...did I like this story? Yes, I did, he just wasn't my favorite Bachman man. But I did love the MFC...and she more than makes up for his lacking. In spite of her issues (never knowing her father or being told anything about him and having her vague memories denied), she's strong, resilient and not afraid to stand up for herself. She's kind and caring and very insightful...understanding far beyond her years. He does redeem himself in the end. 4 stars for this one.

Oh my age gap! Haze is my absolute favorite "villain"! After tossing Ophelia's punk boyfriend out the window, Haze snatches her up to make her his bride, to get his vengeance against her family. This are never as they seem and both struggle with their new realities. Haze wants to bring Ophelia to heel. Best way to do that? All things steamy!!

What is going on here?

I’ve been sitting here trying to work out how I feel about this book since I finished it but the only word I can come up with is… confused.

The plot doesn’t flow, it’s more like random events thrown together. There are a few subplots but the only one that feels fleshed out is the one with her dad. The others either have no lead up so it’s like they just fell out of the sky and into this book, or they drop off without any kind of logical conclusion. The one with his mom feels like it’s only there to set up a character for another book 🙄 and one important question that is never really answered, WHY was her family member catfishing in the first place?? Was it just for the money? And if the mom only paid the school tuition, wth happened to the rest of it??

There’s no romance here either. No real chemistry between the characters. Yes they bang but that’s all there is between them. They don’t get to know each other. They never talk about their feelings or what they want or need from each other. I love an obsessed MMC and don’t usually mind the instalove on their part but besides saying “I’m so obsessed with her” this MMC does not come across that way. He’s wishy washy with an extra side of whiplash. They also never really go through the growing stage of the relationship where they come to terms with their feelings for each other. One minute they are confused and conflicted about their feelings for each other, then boom they’re in love and getting married. In their conversations with each other and in their inner monologue, it’s like they have the most profound emotional realizations in the space between one sentence and the next 😵‍💫

There was absolutely nothing endearing about the MMC. What’s the point of an age gap romance if the older one is more emotionally stunted than the younger. Then he calls himself her daddy a couple times but does absolutely nothing caring or nurturing for her nor does he seem to ever think about doing so. Feels like it was just thrown in there to fit in with the rest of the Bachman brotherhood trope.

I love the Bachman men and their books.
This one was different than the rest.
I enjoy age gap romance. So I didn’t really have a problem with that in it of itself.
Haze was just so very different than the rest of his Bachman brothers.
So that is what threw me off.
Haze needs to be married in order to get his promotion in the organization.
And he is also out for revenge for being robbed of a large sum of money.
Killing two birds with one stone, he forces the eighteen year old daughter into marriage.
Ophelia is caught in the crosshairs of what her mother did and Haze’s vow of vengeance.
She is filled with sass and feistiness.
I liked the way they met. Haze demanding that her boyfriend leave out the window.
And having his men escort him away. The scene showcased his dominance and authority.
Need not particularly care for what happens next.
They do have chemistry. I wish their relationship was built up more before the physical aspect though.
I’m glad that they found their way into making their relationship work after the rocky start.
Lots of moving parts in the story. Haze and Ophelia having their own personal issues.
Family dynamics and secrets coming to light. And of course all of the sizzling hotness.

Captivating read that will hold you riveted between its pages, great characters and plot
This is a simply wonderful read and loved the captivating characters and the plot of the story that will draw you in and I just know that once you begin reading this wonderful book you will be simply thrilled by the characters.
Ophelia is there when he wants and when she breaks into her room and throws her boyfriend out of the window and then she is taken with him, she fights him and attempts to escape but he is only too happy to ensure that she is punished and the price is taken out of her hide so that she doesn’t forget.
He has decided that she has got to marry him and live under his roof there are no exceptions and she will soon learn that being involved with the Mafia is not an easy thing to live with.
A captivating read that will keep you totally engaged in this simply wonderful read and you will look forward to future books by this author,
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

A little too far fetched for my taste

Sorry for the rating but I have to be honest, this book just wasn't for me. The kidnapped girl falls in love with her kidnapper after a few days, she accepts sexual punishments and likes them which is fine (if you like that kind of thing) but barely has any story with the man other than the spicy scenes and it was hard to understand where the love story started. The second half of the book was a little better than the first but sadly I just felt that it needed more, more plot twist, more action, more interaction that would cause her to fall for him. I found myself left wanting which was disappointing. I gave two stars because it wasn't all bad and bits of the story wanted me to keep reading, however it was full of missed opportunities. I think if the author made this a longer book, had more interaction to make their story believable and some actual mafia action, this could have been a fantastic book.

It has been a while since we visited the Italian branch of the Bachman Brotherhood, but this story was well worth the wait. Haze had been conned and cheated out of a very large sum of money and he is out for revenge. His target, Ophelia, is an innocent 18 year old who is the daughter of the woman who fleeced Haze. His revenge will be to take her from her mother and force her to marry him. When he kidnaps her, his plan is put in motion but it doesn’t work out the way he’d planned. I’m not going to go into the gritty details other than to say the angst within the story has nothing to do with other mafia families or enemies and everything to do with personal family histories and ROMANCE. This just might be the most romantic Bachman story yet! Yes, there are lots of riveting erotic punishments and erotically sensuous sex, but the way these two souls truly find each other is absolutely beautiful. A Bachman spanking romance with heavy emphasis on the romance. 5 Stars.

Revolting whining MMC

I don't mind an age Gap. The way this one came down was disturbing for me. The MMC was 35 and the MFC was 18. He was mad at her mom so he came into her room doing sexual things to her knowing she was a virgin. Belting butt plugs among other things. Bachman men are supposed to be moral and protective not taking advantage of an 18-year-old. If he had waited a while and there's been a buildup it would have been a little better. Of course being in 18-year-old innocent virgin it was so unrealistic that she loved everything that he did to her including anal sex for punishment. The plot was good the writing was good editing was good. This book was not what I read romances for.

Strange

I found this book a bit strange because there were so many storylines that were introduced but never developed or resolved. They introduced a crazy stalker that I thought would be back to attack the hero or heroine but only one scene. Why even bring her into the story. The heroine lost her father at an early age but the explanation of how he died felt like an afterthought. The hero was catfished early on and that whole resolution was ridiculous. And whatever happened to would be rapist, Carter? Finally, this author lives the word dastardly and uses it at every opportunity. Why?

I'd have to say, this is one of my favorites Shanna Handel's books, the plot was strong, packed with so many different emotions, Ophelia and Haze were fierce, Shanna Handel did a great job on this story. I couldn't put it down. From the moment Haze and Ophelia are in a room together, you can feel the tension, their chemistry is off the charts, they were perfect together. Their path may have started out one one but it turned into something so much deeper. This is a great story, I'd suggest reading.
It's 5 Stars!
Thank you, Shanna Handel. Wonderful work :)

This is the first book in a new spin off series from the author and apart from the Bachman name, the stories now bear almost no resemblance to the original Bachman Brotherhood series. However, I enjoyed this story very much.

I loved the characters - Ophelia with her sassiness and Haze with his insecurities. Even the addition of Liam and Emilia from Vow to the King made great appearances, especially considering I wasn't a fan of their book.

While this story doesn't completely answer all of the plot holes it presented to me, I did enjoy it and am looking forward to more in the series.

A fantastic book, and definitely something quite different but well, well worth the read. I couldn't put this down and read it in a single sitting - now I have to wait that much longer for the next book... I so felt for both Ophelia and Haze and my heart broke for them quite near the end (not going to post any spoilers!) but I was so glad to see them get their happily ever after. Haze really did not have it easy and his conversation was Liam was an eye opener. And poor Ophelia, she had to learn so many family secrets... I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did!

Ophelia and Haze are the newest couple in the Bachman family. Of course there is a fire, of course you will find tension, and of course possessive hero is present. I like that Ophelia has some sas to her, she isn’t weeping damsel in distress and even though she is young, she is full of beans and learns to navigate Haze’s world well. This book, like previous in this series has some spice and fire with clear chemistry between main couple. We will see a little glimpses of old faces, in case you missing them. It was difficult to put this captivating book down.

Another Bachman man to love! This is the story of Ophelia and Haze. Haze wants revenge on her mother. He thinks her Mom catfished him on a dating sight and stole thousands of dollars from him. So, he decides to get even in a way only the Bachman’s can. He kidnaps Ophelia to make her his wife. This story is a hot age-gap romance. This book is HOT! I truly enjoyed this story and all the details that go into a story in the Bachman world. I always feel I’m right in the middle of the story that Ms. Handel is weaving! I highly recommend this one! You won’t regret a minute of it.

I loved that this story joined two well done series and that the reader finds out what happens to the baby handed to Freya. It tells the story about sweet loving and young Ophelia who has an old soul and an adventurous spirit and life stunted Dominant Haze. This is a long story that reads fast. It is full of different elements from hot sexy erotic scenes, to family friction to obsession and of course love. All the characters are well done. I received an advanced reader copy of this book and am leaving an honest review. Very well worth reading.

Disappointing book

While I enjoyed parts of this book, I didn't relate well to the controlling Haze. He lacked empathy and rarely showed any true caring. Ophelia was rather immature, but far more appealing than Haze. The chair was degrading and not something a man in love would do to his loved one. The chemistry just wasn't there between the characters, just lust and angst. The plot was a little shaky as well. What was the motivation for catfishing Haze? Especially given what was revealed about their past?

As always Shanna never disappoints. Ophelia and Haze’s story is intense and full of tension right from the start. What start out as revenge against her mother for him, turns into so much more. The chemistry between them is the best slow burn. Not only did they learn more about one another but they got to learn more about themselves too. It was a good start to this new series, and I’m excited for the next one.

Anyone that knows me knows I LOVE me some Bachman hotness!!!! And this book delivers!

We have Ophelia and Haze. Definitely not a match made in heaven...or are they?

This starts as vengeance but the longer they're together, things take a turn for the better....for both of them. Secrets are uncovered and feelings are changed.

I truly enjoyed this story, not just for the happily ever after but for the change both characters make throughout their journey.

A bit of a time jump as Ophelia appeared in an earlier book as a toddler (I actually had to go back and find the origin story!). The story between the 2 main characters is gripping and holds your interest - the type of book you are torn between speed reading to find out what happens and reading slowly to savor the story.

Another Bachman book! Woo hoo! You can never go wrong reading one of their books. There are super sexy times throughout the book. Haze and Ophelia have wicked chemistry! Their relationship starts with a bump however they find a way to make the relationship work. A lot of different emotions come to play in the book.
Shanna Handel has another hit on her hands!

This is a new Bachman book! The main couple has a significant age gap, and even though Ophelia is 18, she is still in school. Haze sees her one day, and he wants her. He decides to use her as revenge against her mother but quickly realizes he is falling in love with her. The chemistry between the two is incendiary, and I enjoyed reading the story.

least satisfying Bachman book

This was seriously like a porno- the mcs meet, have lots of sexual encounters, have very little meaningful contact in between any of that before they’re declaring their love for each other, then- boom bang boop- it’s over. Seriously least satisfying Bachman book EVER. We all deserve better.

I love the Bachman's and Haze didn't disappoint he was dominant but cared alot about his past and had alot of feelings that needed attention and Ophelia his kidnapped bride was the one to bring them to the surface

I lovexage gap stories and she was so much older and smarter then her 18 years . They made a great couple, angst, emotions and growing together.

Sorry to the author but I really couldn’t finish this book. I read more than half but I didn’t want to lose any more time with this. The couple was very immature and the chemistry between them…. no sparkle, no motion, nothing! This was my first experience from this author, I will try to read more of her so I know if this book was the only that I didn’t like

I absolutely adore this story about Ophelia and Haze. He's a little different than most of the Bachman men. A little more vulnerable, a little sweeter but still dominant and sexy. Ophelia is smart and stands up for herself and what she wants. The characters in this world never disappoint. This is one of my favorite Bachman stories to date!

A 4th grader could write better romance than this

Ever get a book because the description makes it sound good? This is one of those books. The description was the only good part of this. From horrific writing to a story that made absolutely zero sense save your time and energy and stay far far away from this pile of drivel.

"I need a wife. I demand revenge."

One night changes everything for Haze and Ophelia. This is a dark, twisted mafia-themed tale of debts owed, threats, dominance, retribution, punishment, passion, forced obedience, obsession and family secrets revealed. Their complex relationship is full of surprises as it evolves.
