Runes: The Alphabet of the Gods

Rate this book
Runes are the magical alphabet of central and northern Europe. Though they were used as a form of writing, particularly for short magical inscriptions, their primary use was divination and decision making. Meaning "whisper" or "secret" Runes are a system of symbols that can connect you with your ancestors, spirits, and the living world. Today, we can still use these beliefs about ancient deities, and by accessing the magic of Runes we can address many of the challenges of daily life in the 21st century. Guy Ogilvy, one of the world's best known Rune specialists, has created a wonderfully illustrated handbook full of detailed interpretations and advice, providing both the basics and advanced information to help you in your personal and successful use of this ancient oracle. Though really interesting, I felt like the book needed more editing. Layout is usually very clear, but sometimes is a little confusing.

A fascinating glimpse into an aspect of the modern day Norse religion. Some things I learned: Letters from the Norse alphabet are in our alphabet. Words used to be considered powerful and are connected to the ancient Old English/Norse word wyrd. Wyrd is the foundation of all things. The word spell is a verb but also a noun. This is no mistake.
