These are my last moments with my son. I have prayed for a miracle and my prayers have gone unanswered. The vampire feeding on a bull in my barn might be my salvation, but will he help me or retreat back into the safety of the storm?
Cassius
I only stopped in his barn to get out of the snow, I hadn’t planned on finding my soulbond mate. But the baby’s cries called to me. I will do my best to help but then I have to leave. I can’t stay. Not when his soul calls to mine. When need clashes with desire, what will break? Will the storm claim another soul or will two souls find a miracle?
Stay is a >30k novella set 150 years prior to the founding of the city Agápe. Though it takes place in the same world as our first book, Fate Restored, It is intended to be read as a stand-alone.
Single dad Hurt/comfort, Forbidden romance, Sick baby, Vampire, 1800’s, bi-sexual, mpreg, omegaverse, male lactation, LGBTQAI+, first times, one bed
Z.T. Webb are a pair of sisters who started collaborating in the final quarter of 2020. Zephyr is the mastermind behind plot twists and emotional pain. If you are angry about the trama their characters experience it’s her fault. Tate is the engineer of tension, spice, and pace.
The sisters enjoy a love of coffee, curry, long drives, and detective shows. Their favorite things to write are mpreg, morally gray characters, romance, and magic. On weekends they read too much, nap too often, and text with each too frequent.
They are looking forward to introducing you to new worlds from their creative and sometimes twisted minds.
“Happy reading! Life is too short to read fiction you don’t enjoy. It’s all right to dnf a book.” -ZT Webb
This short, Achillean romance novella was a surprising read for me because, as much as I enjoy reading and find a variety of writing styles that are objectively good, I rarely find one that also really CLICKS with me and manages to absorb me right into its world. Stay was one of those for me.
Entrancing, descriptive writing clearly set not only the scenes but the emotions of each scene and effortlessly built this cold, snowy, desperate environ, weighted with the emotions of "will I, or won't I", hope and despair, longing and dread through every page.
Despite having a fated mates theme, this story doesn't play out like your average insta-love, and there's a growing, careful, fearful fondness, LAYERED with protectiveness that mounts from one chapter to the next, and is interlaced with the desperate lengths both characters will go to save Richmond's children. It's a delicious, slower-paced crawl to completion, a pace that allows the characters' hesitance and ignorance, respectively, to be FELT and expressed. I LOVE a fated mates story with a layer of danger that doesn't immediately have the characters tangled together but that instead allows their longing to grow. Stay isn't a slow-burn, but it isn't insta-love either, and for me, it was the perfect pace with all the right emotional nuance and circumstantial developments to allow the characters to finally give in to their pining and need.
I've used so many desctiptors already, I feel I may be becoming repetitive, but, my gosh, Stay is SO dreamy, so wistful, so INTERESTING. The world, politics, and magic system that are all touched on here have such great potential for more. More growth. More lore. More danger. I know this book is a bit of a standalone spinoff of the authors' other book, which I'm intrigued to learn more of, but I also hope they decide to write more books and novellas set in this world because there's much to explore, and I, personally, would love to learn more. I feel like this story could have benefitted from a LITTLE bit more information on the magic system, how mages have particular elements, how that works into their magic, and how they cast spells. But regardless, I was intensely intrigued by what I did learn of this world, and I really enjoyed everything that was built here.
Stay is a diamond in the rough. It's absolutely worth reading and deserves more hype. Check out content warnings and be open to an omega-style character with all that entails, but if you enjoy that concept, I highly recommend this book. It's perfect for a cold, rainy, or snowy day, curled up by a fire with Webb's words building rosy white worlds in your mind.
4.75 Stars 🌟 A MM Paranormal romance novella set in a harsh winter of 1800s with Mage x Vampire, a touch of forbidden, Fated Mates & first times, size difference, M-preg & an ailing baby's last hope. Its a prequel & my intro to this series. I don't typically read historical-fiction, but it had elements that I love & I'm glad I gave this a try! I loved Rich & Cass, read my #ARC in 3hrs.
“Yesterday’s regrets steal today’s joy.”
💧Richmond is a widowed single dad to his 2 small kids, with a barn full of animals. R's weary, tired & hopeless mage. His baby boy is sick & he can't seem to cure him 🥺. (R can be a lil oblivious in matters of heart 🙈) 🧛♂️Cassius is a wandering vampire, finally found his fated mate but he can't stay, can he? Its not safe due to the conflict, forbidden bond. Would R even want C? C's gentle, caretaker & with healing knowledge. The light R needed in this dark time!
The lore is interesting, especially with the whole conflict 😯. The premise that all Vamps (I think?) have wombs is a new 1 to me! I don't think it's omegaverse as that word wasn't told & the present day series isn't.
The connection & inner conflicts of the MCs was built good good. The insta love still sucker punched me 😆, it's a FM novella after all heh. This is the 2nd book I've read with male lactation, tamer & A-ok in comparison! I loved the snowy fun & domestic scenes. Grizzly x Blushy 🤭. These 2 got spicy 🥵 once they finally gave in.
“A shadow of my salacious dreams, here in my bed. In my arms. Writhing on me, panting, brought down to your instincts. Come for me.”
I dunno if it was only with arcs/this book, but use of scene-breakers (~) will help show us when a scene ends/changes in a chapter. I got a lil confused 🙈. I'd've liked to see acknowledgement of the first times as talk + an epilogue too. Still, it was a cute, cozy story with emotional & hot scenes. My 1st by the authors, will try more!
Stay is a cosy novella set during a particularly harsh winter. Richmond is a water Mage who is widowed and struggling to survive with his young daughter and baby son. His baby boy is sick and no matter what he does he cannot heal him! Cassius the Wanderer is a vampire. He seeks refuge in Richmond’s barn and feels a strong pull to the Mage, knowing that he is his soulbond and fated mate. The development of their relationship is so sweet and perfect for fated mates. I love that once they both accept the bond, they are bound together. They make a perfect little family. One negative? I need more of Cassie & Grizzly! 🤣 but that’s hardly a negative really!
This was an enjoyable novella for me to read. It's actually my first contact with omegaverse and I think it was a great starting point. I honestly really enjoyed it. Despite the length there is a lot packed into this novella. We learn about Richmond and Cassius's history enough to feel like we know them, we also got a good amount of information about the world this story is set in. I really liked the idea of a "soulbond" and the ritual to solidify it was very interesting. I really enjoyed the pull they both felt towards each other and the caretaking that happened. I felt like this novella had a great amount of plot and depth for the length it has.
I feel like this is a great book to read as an introduction to omegaverse. The lovestory between Cassius and Richmond is beautiful and you'll want more of them.
This book follows single father and mage Richmond. His wife is dead and he's left with a newborn and a toddler, and they're all dying. When a vampire shows up in his barn one day, he sees it as possible salvation, that salvation being death for all of them.
The vampire, Cassius, has been around for a while. He's frostbitten and starving, and the moment he lays eyes on Richmond, he realizes that Richmond is his soulbound mate. But he's fighting against it; he doesn't want to accept it, or expose the truth to Richmond. However, he sees a family struggling where he can help, and, despite wanting and needing to leave, can't get himself to do so. The more time he stays, the closer Richmond gets to the truth.
I wasn't a fan of this book. I don't feel like it was written well. The toddler's dialogue was awkward and unnatural. I don't feel like it was paced well; it moved far too quickly for me to become invested in the characters, much less any romance between them. There wasn't any tension, either, and I felt that the book could have done with that.
The payoff of them bonding felt rushed and empty. Overall, just not a great book.
This novella wraps you up in its angst and sweetness and doesn't let go. The focus of the story is on an ailing baby and a family who has lost a mother; a wife; and their safety. That's where Cassius the Wanderer comes in and changes their whole lives and saving them in the process.
Richmond and Cassius were beautiful together, and I fell in love with their love for not only each other but their children. I could easily keep reading more about this couple.
I loved how Cassius baked, provided sustenance for the baby, and was delicate and soft while also being sturdy and strong. The way Richmond accepted and loved Cassius was a delight to read.
If you want a novella that gets you in your feels and feels like a hot cup of cocoa, read this!
Tropes and themes include: single father, mpreg, vampire/mage, found family
I loved the magical intimacy interwoven in the novella. It's a signature in the authors writing, and it's one of my favorite components to their writing style. Beautiful prose. Heartfelt love. Happy Ever after.
If you want to read a quick novella that doesn't feel like you've been cheated out of a good story and full of emotions, then I highly recommend this one, Stay.
It's set in the 1800s in a remote cabin with a father, Richmond, losing his hope, wishing for a miracle to save his children. That miracle stumbles in the form of a raggedy vampire, Cassius, who is also hoping for a miracle to survive the harsh winter and make it to his destination. Fate intervenes and unites two desperate souls. Love that's it's dual POV, letting me feel both of Cassius and Richmond's thoughts, feelings, despair, wishes, fighting attraction, and finally their true happiness. Even though their road to HEA was quick, it did not feel forced or lack emotion. The chemistry just sizzled until it burst into flames ... very steamy! I absolutely loved this short story, only wish that it had a epilogue so I could see how nicely they settled into their fated life.
Stay is a short novel set in Agápe's past. It takes place during a severe winter, on a farm. Richmond, a water wizard, is a widower in charge of two children, one of them a baby, who is very sick. Cassius, a wandering vampire, shows up at the farm and strikes a temporary deal with Richmond, in exchange for trying to save the baby, Cassius can feed on the cattle.
I liked the intimate and meditative style of the book, the interior dialogues, because we see what the characters feel and think first hand. There are also scenes full of eroticism. I especially liked the domesticity between the two characters. Cassius' relationship with the children is beautiful.
There is a wonderful moment at the end of the book that left me crying with emotion.
It is a beautiful addition to the universe that the authors have created.

Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Admittedly, this novella was a little outside my usual wheelhouse. I have never read anything with Mpreg or anything set in the 1800s. That being said, this whole thing was such a vibe. I loved the Vampire x Mage fated mates situation and I also loved that Richmond’s fated mate was the one who could save his sick son. It was a very short novella, but it packed a big punch. The writing was great, I have read very few fated mates dynamics and I thoroughly enjoyed this one! It was just very cool and interesting to read, I don’t know how else to phrase it lol. It was fun to read something different than my typical, and it made me want to continue to branch out and see what else is out there. Very glad I got to ARC read this one!
Stay is a beautifully emotional novella that takes place in the 1800’s. Richard who has been recently widowed is left in a desperate situation when the baby his wife has left behind falls deathly ill. He is lost and drowning in this feeling that he has failed his family, and finds himself hoping that vampire that has taken refuge in his barn will put him and his children out of his misery. Cassius the Wanderer does not stay in one place for long, his intentions was to seek shelter in the mages barn until he regains his strength, but desperate dries of the baby and the lost look in eyes of the man whose barn he has hidden in as his feet firmly rooted in place. Cassius us drawn to Richard in a way that he has never been drawn to anyone ever before and he begins t wonder if his days or wondering has come to an end.
This is an absolute lovely read, and the relationship between Cassius and Richard was so sweet. They way they care for one another and the easy way that Cassius becomes apart of the family makes it so clear that he was always meant to be there. I love how nurturing he is right off the bat and how he holds no negativity towards the fact that Richard was previously married and I especially adore that Cassius cares for the children despite them not being his. They make a beautiful family for sure.
I cannot find a single bad thing to say about this and I would love to one day see a snap shot of their lives in the future.
Ahhhh this novella was so cute! It was a cozy read set during a harsh winter and kind of gave Little House on the Prairie vibes. I really enjoyed the caretaking aspects of the story between Cassius, the baby and Sarah. I also liked how it was dual POV so you could feel the tension and pull between Cassius and Richmond on both ends. Despite being short, there were some spicy parts as well! And boy were they HOT! I absolutely loved them! And the nickname Grizzly that Cassius had for Richmond was so cute hehe The only thing that I didn't like is that this novella was set over 3 days and they were in love at the end of it, but that's my personal preference. Overall, this novella was great, and I loved the world building here, so I can't wait to read Fate Restored!
Thank you Z.T. Webb for an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
A short and sweet novella set in their Agape universe.
I love the simplicity of the time, no technology or distractions, just working for your family and enjoying what you have. Richmond "Grizzly" is a widower with a baby and a young daughter. Working the best he can, but he's about at the end of his rope; his baby is dying and he can't do anything to help him in the blizzard that's set upon the land. In comes Cassius, a wandering vampire, who just happens to realize that he found his forever and doesn't need to wander ever again. Their relationship starts off friendly but transforms beautifully into something fate can be proud of.
It's a great "prequel" story to the authors series. I find myself wanting to read more and more of this world
This was the sweetest coziest little story! I just can’t get enough of Zepher and Tate’s sweet caring vampires! Cassie and Richmond were perfect and I want more or maybe just more set in this time period, I loved it! It’s a mage and vampire set on a farm during a harsh winter in the 1800s, that in and of itself is a perfect mix for me. Richmond is a Mage who recently lost his wife, and is now raising his small daughter and trying to keep his baby son alive. Cassius is a drifter who finds himself at the farm, feeding from the animals to get stronger and continue on because he doesn’t stay any where forever. Until Richmond finds him in the barn and he realizes Richmond is “his mage”. This story is set in the same universe as Fate Restored so if you’ve read it you know Vampires need a Mage and vise versa they are meant to be, fated, two halves of a whole. I ate their story in one sitting, I really love this world these writers have created!
I received this arc for my honest opinion. Stay by Z.T. Webb was a fast and good read. Cassius and Richmond’s relationship and how it bloomed all because they were mates was great to read. Cassius being a wanderer and never staying in one place for a long learning that to survive and be happy. He needed to stay with Richmond and take care of the kids and build a family was a great lesson. Was not able to put this down. Finished it with like an hour. Would recommend since it is a prequel to the Agape series.
Richard being a widow and the father of 2 young children never expected to have help, his son is sick and possibly dying and he sends a pray to his late wife asking for help. The next thing you know Cassius comes into The picture and he finds love, happiness, hope and a friend repairing all the broken parts. This was a beautiful paranormal novella and I loved it.
This book is so soft and sexy. It's got just the right of angst and the yearning-pining was amazing. This felt like a decadent sweet at the end of a chilly day. Definitely check this author out.
I really liked this story. It was a fast read and kept me hooked. I loved the characters. Even though the story started out bleak it shaped up to give hope
