It ends here. I need to find a way to live free from my family, and I don’t want to be next in line. The FBI seems like a good way to start, but my good intentions aren’t enough. Having to play the good daughter so I can help them build a case against my family is hard enough.
Falling for the icy FBI agent makes it harder…
ANASTACIA
Everyone thinks the Aiellos are untouchable. That is, until their daughter and only heiress decides she wants nothing to do with her father’s violent reign.
My only job is to make sure she survives what she has set out to do.
Protecting her soon becomes more personal than I could have ever imagined…

Anastacia McCree is a Special Agent, having tried to take the Aiello crime family down for many years, but always being thwarted one way or another. Ruby Aiello has been away from the family since a young child, studying abroad, but has been recalled into the arms of the family business because of the death of her cousin, the expected heir. I did not find this an easy book to read, there is too much tension for my liking. But if your thing is mafia bosses and FBI, this is well written and worth reading. I don’t know how true-to-life this is, but it seemed a caricature of an Italian mob family. Everything overdone, even to the extent of the Russian connections. The romance isn’t the main story, and so that felt a bit underdeveloped, but it was still ok.
Ruby wants nothing more to do with the violent regime her father runs, and she is determined to do whatever she needs to do to help the FBI bring him down and gain her freedom. Working with Anastacia is a challenge when Ruby starts falling for her, and when Anastacia begins to feel the same way, both their lives are at risk with one wrong move.
The Connected series always delivers on a high action, fast-paced story, packed with risk and ambition. This fourth book in the series continues that perfectly as we are introduced to Ruby’s plans to build a case against her family. I really felt for her because she was in such a compromising position and risked getting caught at so many points, especially when things started getting more and more intense. Anastacia was fantastic at supporting Ruby, especially during moments of weakness that surfaced from time to time, and she didn’t falter in reminding Ruby what was a stake for herself personally, but it wasn’t from a selfish perspective as you could tell how much she also cared about Ruby not getting hurt if she ended up somehow stuck in the middle of it all.
It was exciting from the first chapter, and to start Ruby’s ambitious nature and determination was infectious. I was really rooting for her and hoping everything would go without any hitches to make sure she really could get the freedom she deserved. I didn’t doubt her for a moment though and was in awe of how well she played her part without arousing suspicion about what she was really doing.
A great addition to this series, with strong leading characters, who had an equally strong passion for one another once a connection had been established between them.
Too much punctuation with way too many commas making the flow choppy. There was also an attempt by the author to use big words where they weren't needed and many times the words didn't mean what she thought they did. Extra words, words missing. Sentences that end without conclusion. Some sentences made absolutely no sense.
I don't remember this in the first three books, so I don't know what happened here. The story was decent, but I had a hard time staying connected to the characters.
This story grabbed me on page one and held me in thrall to the last words. Barbra Winkes is an amazing writer. I was enthralled by the depth of the characters. The story is complex with twists I did not expect. The love story was for sure a bit thin but it came across as just deep enough. Overall a really good book.
Barbara Winkes! Has a distinct talent for writing drama. Should it be about para normals or as in this text. I just finished this series about ties to the mob and the innocent ones that have to suffer because of their family members connected to such. This series is a great way to escape from life's burdens😚 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟❗
