Maggie McArthur was doing just fine, thank you.

Fun fact: this author also owns the Meet Cute Romance Bookshop in San Diego!

I really enjoyed this book overall. A romance between neighboring summer camp directors? So, somewhat forced proximity, friends with benefits, he falls first, catching feelings all over the place, yes PLEASE. The main characters were great, the side characters were quirky yet believable, and there’s a dog! Honestly, I could have done with a little more camp antics. As camp directors, they did surprisingly little actual directing, but ok, it’s about the romance. The handful of camp events we got peeks into were a ton of fun!
But then this book took a turn in the middle that I was not expecting and I don’t know if I enjoyed or not. It was an issue that was dealt with matter of factly, with no drama, in a way I found refreshing, and I don’t think I’ve ever read a romance with this plot line in it. That being said, I’m not sure I NEEDED this plot line in my romance. I’m honestly torn about it.
Otherwise, I really liked this book. I’d read more by this author. Especially if we get Drew’s messy divorce story.

I love a camp setting! I blame it on the Babysitter’s Club. They went to camp a lot and it was always a fun time. That being said I do not want to ever set foot on a camp!!!!
I flew through this book and just wanted to keep reading it!! But life got in the way!! But I was reading chapters on my lunch break because I did not want to stop reading!! Which is high praise from me because books have not been giving me this feeling that much lately and it was such a joy to be so sucked into a book that I didn’t want to stop reading.
This is a dual POV book, but it’s mostly in Maggie’s POV, but we still got a lot of Daniel’s POV which I LOVED!! I would’ve missed Daniel’s thoughts if we did not get them, but it’s Maggie’s story at its core.
I’m a sucker for romances where a character has it all figured out//has a task at hand (Maggie is both) and does not have time for love. Only for them to get hit with LOVE.
Overall I LOVED this book and would highly recommend it to all contemporary romance lovers!

This was a book that I read (also not on a Kindle I don't know why it says that).
First of all, as a North Carolina native, I really enjoyed the accuracy of the details of NC; especially Asheville. However, I hate the characters. Maggie suckssss. She's so negative and unpleasant and I kept forgetting she was bisexual. The back of the book mentioned some things and didn't mention some things, like her whole dang abortion. It was like less than 20 pages of her being pregnant and then getting an abortion. Which is totally fine, of course, but it was a big surprise and very small plot point lol. Also, she told Daniel it wasn't his. Well who's was it?? I take back what I say about hating the characters, it was just Maggie. Everyone else was fine. This book was spicy-ish, and they repeated some words wayyy too much. Some words I cannot type on my school computer. This book also felt unedited, with the spacing throughout changing formats and the incorrect grammar, especially with commas and not even capitalizing God. So I will leave you with me saying that this book is fine. A little cringe and millennial, but that is common. Just fine.

I was lucky enough to read an ARC for this book and I devoured it in 24 hours. It’s a fun summer friends with benefits romance- reading about an imaginary situationship is always more fun than living through it. Becca really captured the little moments of realizing a spark is imminent. It was a beautiful balance of romance while also speaking to some important topics that impact all women. Couldn’t put this one down. 🍀

I’ll always love a grumpy fmc x sunshine mmc and Maggie and Daniel were exactly that.
I’m still completely blown away.
I’m not an expert, but I have read MANY books, specifically romance books, and Nothing to Write Home About did some things I’ve never read before in a way that was to die for.
The steamy scenes were SO hot. The descriptions of feelings were so perfect. I had warm fuzzies for so much of the story, and when the characters were in pain I was in exquisite pain with them.
There was also a Situation™️ that I personally have never seen on the page (of this genre) (check the trigger warnings) and I immensely appreciated it playing out the way it did.
I can’t wait to see this book hit shelves.

I was so excited for this book, especially for the opportunity to support Becca Erin Title, the owner of Meet Cute (my favorite romance book store!). Throughout this book, it is evident that Title has all the prerequisites for an amazing romance novel - a cute storyline, popular tropes, and creative characters. Specifically, I loved the grumpy sunshine trope, especially with the girl being grumpy and the guy being sunshine. I LOVED Daniel. His character was so likable and while I like a morally gray mmc as much as the next girl, it can be refreshing to see a pure sunshine mmc as well. She also did a really good job writing the lead up to the steamy scenes. I would definitely argue that it is one of the author's strengths and I enjoyed reading these scenes.
Now, for the 2-star rating. While all the elements were there, the execution was just... underwhelming. Overall, the characters were extremely underdeveloped. I wasn't allowed to infer anything about the characters without Title hitting me over the head telling me who they were and about their traits. The plot felt very forced - people just decided things out of the blue without giving any insight to their thought processes or how their feelings changed. And then, in the middle of the book, is a whole chapter devoted towards the fmc's abortion. Now, I am very pro-choice, and don't have a problem with abortions being mentioned, even in romance novels. I have appreciated Title's outspoken stance and advocacy for reproductive rights. But a full chapter that feels like a step-by-step guide on how to get an abortion in North Carolina felt very out of place, especially when the fmc makes a string of life-changing decisions in like 5 pages at the end of the book with no insight into her decision making process. Finally, the writing just felt... immature. I don't need everything I read to be a literary work of art, but I felt that, for this story, it actually took away from my enjoyment of it. I would definitely read more for Title, especially as her writing style continues to evolve. I know writing a book is EXTREMELY difficult! If anything, I think this book demonstrates the potential this author has to be a top tier romance author!

This book is hilarious! I spent most of the time laughing along with the characters through their camp shenanigans.

Becca Erin did an amazing job at accurately depicting camp, I felt I was right there with the campers! If you’ve ever been to a summer camp you’ll love this book and it’s perfect for a summer read ☀️

As a Camp Girlie (tm), I looooved the camp setting. Her camp seems a lot more relaxed than mine though bc I can’t imagine our camp director having this much free time to engage in a FWB situation. I don’t know if it makes sense, but the prose felt like it was sitting deeply in a chair. Spending a lot of time with describing the camp and random things that I wasn’t sure really mattered. But it was still engaging despite having relatively low stakes.

This book was so well done. It tackled a real issue in a no nonsense way turning a trope I hate into a story I've never seen before and really loved. I liked reading this book as it had the perfect mix of what I expected and what I didn't and I really enjoyed it. The surprise Jewish MMC was a pleasant surprise that was well done.

Really excellent summer camp vibes to kick off the beginning of summer! This book really captured the spirit of muggy (and STEAMY) southern summers. I really loved a lot of the side characters as well and now want to find out how many marshmallows I can fit in my mouth.

I liked the story but had a really hard time connecting with the FMC. Her emotional unavailability made it really hard to feel what she was feeling and I often found myself annoyed with her.
I also feel like the story may have dragged on a bit at some parts with the third act breakup coming more like at the very end of the book with very little time to resolve it.

I adored this book!!! I really related to and resonated with Maggie and I loved being in her head. I thought Blue Harbor and Daniel Becker came into her life at the exact right time and watching her walls very slowly come down was so sweet.
I loved the writing in this book. Everything was so well described and I enjoyed reading it so much.

Before I start this very glowing love letter to this book I think I should disclose that I could not be more proud of this author/ independent bookstore owner and everything she has accomplished! 💗
This book it everything to write home about! I had not even known that this book was being written and then bam suddenly there’s a brand new book baby from a human I admire so much! And she let me read it!
I was sucked in for the first few lines “Maggie McArthur had certainly found worse ways to stave off jetlag. The bartender’s teeth tugged at her lower lip as Maggie backed her slowly against the far wall of the single-stall restroom, jealous of the cool tile pressing up against the other woman’s skin.” I mean Come on! It that not intriguing!
And it only got better from there. Maggie is a complicated commitment fob and doesn’t know what to do with the likes of Daniel. Other them bang him obviously. Their attraction is instant and weather Maggie likes it or not so is their connection.
This story has a little bit of everything, grief, nostalgia, hilariously bratty kids, a dog, a hot camp director with a heart of gold and a summer fling that turns into so much more!
This Debut novel from Becca Erin Title is one of the best I’ve read in a long time and I can no wait to get my hands on the paperback!

First of all I feel SO lucky that I got to receive an ARC copy of this book! Im so glad i visited the authors bookstore Meet Cute in La Mesa, CA and was given a free bookmark advertising this book.
Im not sure I’ve ever read a book quite like this one, the dynamic between Maggie & Becker reminded me of one of my favorite Romcoms “No Strings Attached”. Maggie is the one who detests feelings and relationships while Becker is a serial dater who goes along with Maggie’s “friends with benefits” plan just so he can get close to her. I loved how Maggie was the one who was more dominant in the bedroom her confidence is unmatched! She is exactly who she is and doesn’t put up a front and Becker couldn’t help but fall for that. On the other hand Becker was the sweet, charismatic, goofy guy who was there for Maggie even when she tried to push her away. He took up an entirely new hobby just so he could see her everyday.. what’s not to love about that?!
I’ve never read a book that was written in 3rd person dual POV before and I actually loved it. The jokes were funny, the spicy scenes were definitely spicy with 0 cringe (seriously so hard to find), and I’m pretty sure I caught some Taylor Swift & even The Office references in there. Whether or not they were intentional I’m not sure but it still boosted the book for me 😅 I also loved how inclusive this book was including a lot of LGBTQ+ characters as well as varying pronouns & even heavy topics such as abortion laws.
Overall, this book gave me everything I could want from a book and more! Seriously had the best time reading it, thank you Becca Erin Title for allowing me and advanced E-copy, I just pre-ordered my physical copy for my trophy case (bookshelf) ❤️

This book was just an ideal read. The romance is both adorable/cute and sexy/steamy. The characters are so likable that it just made reading this book feel so comforting and enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed how the non-main characters also seemed complex and unique but not in a way that was distracting, just in a way that felt refreshing and added little bits of intrigue throughout.
I felt transported back to the simpler and more relaxed times of summer camp while also feeling like the female lead was dealing with some pretty important and significant issues! But I was rooting for her the whole time because I genuinely liked her. I felt frustrated when she was frustrated and I felt giddy when she felt giddy. I was invested in her happiness, which is what I want to feel when reading a romance novel!!

I was very intrigued by Nothing To Write Home About when I first saw it advertised and was ecstatic to receive it as my first ever ARC. A campy story of shenanigans with a mix of romance sounded right up my alley. And I will say, if I was solely reviewing on the stuff I liked in this book, it would be 5 stars. However (and I fully acknowledge that my own thoughts on our current world took me out of this book), this one wasn't for me. BUT, for a first time writer, this book WAS NOT bad. She writes well and nothing necessarily dragged which I appreciate. So I would still say if campy and romance are your vibe, give the book a go! Should Becca ever publish another book, I would probably pick it up.

This one was special to me. Daniel and Maggie jumped right off the page and directly into my heart.
I loved reading about an FMC that is a little bit hardened and hard to crack. Maggie is confident and sexy in a way I don't think I've read in a book yet and I truly love this character with my entire heart. Daniel is sweet and so goofy and just wants to be there for Maggie even if she pulls away any time he tries. I'm not usually one to comment on spice in books but lemme tell you: this book was Sexy. It was so damn refreshing to read about an FMC that dominates in the bedroom and a man so down bad he begs for it. Literally begs every single time, ladies. Just top notch stuff right here.

She's in NC and makes a comment about if she can even get one in that state and it's heartbreaking that we are still grappling with these realities but I love to see it normalized on page. In a romance novel!
Also, Maggie and Daniel then have a great convo about kids and if they want any. Being child free by choice myself (by obtaining my own abortion in college), I'm so happy to see the path they took in this book. We can happy and fulfilled without kids and we simply don't see that enough in this space.
Basically, I love this book. We need more like it. I am a fan of this author for life.

Maggie is confident and sexy in a way I don't think I've read in a book yet and I truly love this character with my entire heart. Daniel is sweet and so goofy and just wants to be there for Maggie even if she pulls away any time he tries. Honestly, for a debut book this was really good!
Maggie inherits her Aunt's failing Summer Camp. Home for the summer, Maggie works on improving the camp and getting it ready to sell it. Enter Daniel, a camp counselor who is promises that what they have is just a fling - but really helps Maggie see the charm of the camp.
While this is a trope that is not new, Becca does a great job really making the material feel fresh. Maggie is a tough character, but seeing her heart soften was it for me! Also, I loved that she was the more dominant one in their relationship? Any time there was a spicy scene I was FEELING for Becker. That man was ready to do anything that Maggie asked (and he does). This is the perfect summer book if you're looking for something to cleanse the palette.
What didnt work for me - I find this with a lot of debut books, but I felt there was more telling that showing. I definitely wanted to see more interactions with the campers and activities - I feel like a lot of those were glossed over to move Daniel and Maggie's plot line. The writing was also a bit chunky, but again, that's me being picky. Over all, still a really good debut book!!

What a perfect read for the start of summer! Once I picked this up, I could not put it down. I literally had to ensure my Kindle was in another room, so I didn’t *accidentally* pick it up for a chapter or two during work. Our FMC Maggie lives in Europe working for a bougie consulting firm, but is forced to come home to North Carolina to take over the interim director role at the sleep away camp she grew up going to when her aunt passes away. Our MMC Daniel is the ever helpful director of the camp next door. A friends with benefit situation begins, but one of them is better at being casual than the other.

I loved that the FMC was an openly bisexual woman and that there was no stereotypical biphobia towards her. She was just a bi woman existing and it was left at that; particularly after entering a straight-presenting relationship with Daniel. I also loved that the book included a lesbian and non-binary character and it wasn't made to be a huge spectical in any way, it was just normal (which it should be) and I appreciated that
Daniel I absolutely loved as a character, I really felt connected to him as a character and enjoyed whenever he was written in. Maggie, however, I had a little bit more of a difficult time connecting with. I didn't dislike her as a character, but I do wish perhaps maybe throughout the book her growth with being open with her emotions was a little more expanded upon rather than (to me) it feeling like it only truly happened in the epilogue.
Daniel I absolutely loved as a character, I really felt connected to him as a character and enjoyed whenever he was written in. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book and I have no notes. Fantastic and fun read from start to finish. I was smiling and laughing out loud throughout the entire book. I really couldn’t put it down.
There were maybe 3-5 grammatical errors I found that I’m assuming will be edited out before publishing, but otherwise it’s a great contemporary romance, especially for a first time author; enough so that it pulled me out of a weeks-long reading slump.

I was very impressed by this book.
Third person alternating POV is my least preferred narration style, but despite that fact, which is very much a matter of personal preference and therefore doesn't impact rating, this book was a great read.
Maggie and Daniel were fantastic love interests, the cast of supporting characters was entertaining, and the conflicts (internal and interpersonal) were sincere.
The complexity of the characters was appreciated and overall the writing and development made it hard to believe this was a debut work.
If you like a black cat golden retriever romance with some fun banter and the great outdoors, this is for you.

Loved this story. It was everything you want from a contemporary romance. The best part was that the characters were well rounded and had real depth to them. All the tropes fit well with the plot and had real purpose. With having the main two people be more than one dimensional, I was able to feel the conflicts that each one went through which made me want to keep reading to see how they would respond. If you are a sucker for an actual strong, independent female lead and a softer, compassionate male lead, who both learn to grow while having entertaining events and side characters this is for you.

I didn’t feel any chemistry between the main characters. It’s a cute story but I wish the FMC had a bit more character growth throughout the book. At one point around the halfway mark the MMC makes a comment that he hasn’t seen her “Pantsuit” persona in awhile and my first thought was REALLY?? Are we not thinking of the same person because the FMC stays very much a cold, type A, calculated person throughout the entire book. I liked the side characters and I wish we saw more of them. But for being a book that’s set at a summer camp, we saw very few interactions with the campers and that’s just strange to me. Good idea, but I wish I could connect more with the main characters.

I adored this book! Maggie and Daniel’s story will absolutely be sticking with me, but I appreciate that the other characters were also well-developed (I particularly loved Drew!). The story is perfectly paced — it didn’t feel rushed, but I couldn’t put it down. I loved being immersed in Blue Harbor and the feeling of summer camp. Also the steamy scenes were some of the best I have read. Hot, but also sweet and fun, without any cringe. I have a feeling I will be reading this one again, and can’t wait to see what Becca writes next!

4.5! I was so excited to get an ARC of this book since the author owns my favorite local romance bookstore! 💖 this was a great summer read, Maggie and Becker were such a joy to follow for the summer. I loved how real world issues were discussed and navigated throughout this book, it really made me connect to the characters. I also LOVED the side characters, they all really rounded the summer out. As someone who attended summer camp for a few years myself, this was perfect for kicking off spring🌸💚

This was a very fun romp into the world of summer camps and it made me a bit nostalgic for my own time at camp. Although I only ever went for a week at a time I am envious of others who got a whole summer.
Maggie and Daniel were very interesting and well fleshed out characters who made me occasionally annoyed because Maggie just get your head on straight and see how amazing he is!
I liked the secondary characters as well. Parton was adorable. Chuck, and Drew, and Teddy and the counselors and nurse at camp were all so entertaining.
