I really enjoyed this book. I read the 1st one and again the things I loved about the first are still present in this book so no 2nd book slump. I just love the twist that with books that are about Gods they act like well Gods that are all powerful and infallible and who never apologize even when they clearly have made a mistake. And what I have enjoyed about this series is that yes, they are powerful beings, but they recognize that they make mistakes and are actively trying to correct or make up for their mistakes or even get suffer some consequences from their choices. It's just a fresh take that I appreciate. As to the characters I loved how snarky and sarcastic Gabe is. The way he pokes the bear that is Death who is his father-in-law always had me giggling. But I liked how we got to see how people have put their misunderstanding of who he is and now he his is developing friendships as well. It makes me happy for him. So strong Found family vibes in book 2. Brianna is still a cool FMC who I like because she will not let anything stop her and get in her way when it comes Gabe, and he just really needs someone like that in his life, but she also does it for anyone she cares about because of the lengths she will go for her mom and friends as well. Now I do wish in the years' time of which had passed between book 1 & 2 she had taken the time to practice her godlike abilities because in that area it felt like she had no progression. The chemistry between the two of them is really cute as well. Now for the story/plot I enjoyed it and found it to be an easy read, and I enjoyed how there were some side issues with the side characters so we could focus on them as well. They were making mistakes to help their friends and now as a group we need to fix it. Just added some extra stuff to the story so it wasn't all just about Gabe and Brianna. I will say that some parts felt a little straight forward and I wish they had been expanded a little more just they didn't come off as easy to complete. But I really enjoyed the book, characters and plot and I am excited for the next book.
This book continues the story for Brianna after a year has passed from the last book where she still has not seen or heard from Gabe since he disappeared all while dealing with the death of her mother. As she stands before Hera to hopefully get her annulment the goddess Vera barges in to tell her that Gabe never abandoned her and instead, he has been held prisoner by Hera queen of the gods in Tartarus. Why? Well to stop the annulment because she has bigger plans for Gabe and Brianna and for that they need to stay married. Well now that she knows where her husband is its time to go get him back with the help of her friends. Unfortunately, during their mission Greer casts a spell on Aidan Brianna's stand in guardian to help him while he was under an enchantment. The spell however was a love spell and will have horrible consequences for Greer if she doesn't break it. The only goddess who could help was Juliette, Brianna's dead mother. But there is a hope because it turns out Juliette's soul is being held by the Norse Goddess Hela in her underworld. So now they must set out and try to rescue her mother's soul from a goddess who has never let a soul leave her underworld. Thankfully they have an ace up their sleeve in the form of their friend Skylar who just so happens to be Hela's favorite nephew and the grandson of Loki who will help them in their quest to soften his daughter's heart for the release of Juliette. Because without Juliette they will never be able to break the spell and save Greer from an eternity of torture.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
This story pulled me in right from the start. Brianna’s grief, her fierce love, and the way she refuses to give up on Gabe—it all hit me hard. The mix of Greek and Norse mythology made the stakes feel huge, but it’s the emotional core that really got me.
The spell, the consequences, the quest to save not just a husband but a mother—it’s intense and heartfelt. I especially loved the dynamic with Loki and Skyler adding some unexpected charm. If you’re into stories about love that defies death and gods, this one’s worth the ride.
