Settling into the new pace of his life, Casey Sullivan thought that he’d left behind the idiocy of people with overinflated senses of self worth. But even on another world, around people that worked magic into their everyday life but owed their allegiance to the Norse gods of old, one truth You can’t fix stupid. Thankfully, it’s possible to muffle the idiocy of people that he doesn’t want to deal with, as long as Casey keeps moving. All except for the bit of four-legged mischief that has decided to follow him. After his last battle—in which Casey was forced to face off against a young master to the Bronze Fist clan—Casey now has a friend to talk to besides his lover, Maude. Though the looks he might draw from talking to an elk are about as strange as the ones he was getting for conversing with his weapon. The young Gladewalker Elk, a fantastical creature that hunters prize as one of the greatest types of prey, has decided to tag along with Casey’s adventures. Now whether that is to repay the favor, or because he likes the snacks that Casey has with him is entirely up to the judgment of the observer. As a trio of misfits, Casey, Maude, and the Gladewalker Elk have to find a way to slip out of the Bronze Fist lands before someone notices the missing scion and figures out what happened to him. All while still moving north, drawn by the call of the Roaring Mountain clan, where Casey hopes to reunite with his friend Einar.
Steelforged Legacy is a progression fantasy, men's romance, western cultivation story that takes heavy inspiration from classic cultivation and combines it with an alternate take on Norse mythology. Even the gods can't always see the future right, and the world it is set in takes advantage of the fact that sometimes, even the Fates can make mistakes.
The book would be great without some of the ridiculousness as noted. The growling, the fire obsession, the bow as a prop, the guide/partner not giving advice beforehand, and things like that. The story is finally getting interesting though.
The mc sure likes to growl. Surprise attack from behind? Nah, add a loud growl. While talking, keep your thoughts private? Not when a growl will help announce your hidden emotions.
I was surprised when the mc didn’t die while sleeping in an inn without an open flame next to his bed. His obsession with sleeping and fire continued this book even while trying to hide from enemy pursuers. There is no wood, even moisture less, that would not leave some smoke and smell.
A 10 foot ring or box to duel in is ridiculous. That is the size of a bathroom. A six foot man will have roughly a six foot wingspan and give him a three foot sword and stand him in the center with a nine foot reach and there is no diving out of the way without leaving the ring. It really doesn’t take much effort to use a tape measure then stand in it to realize the dueling ring needs to be much larger.
Oh my gosh that was an amazing action packed second book in the start of what I think is going to be a series to definitely keep your eyes on. Without trying to give too much of a spoiler, in this book you get to know the most amazing elk to ever exist and how he is the sassiest of characters I have read in a while, it’s phenomenal! Just go read the book…. Erm well maybe go read the first book but then definitely this one for sure!
Love this author, love this book! I very much enjoy everything this author puts out. He has a great way of writing relationships and a building slow burn romance. The side characters all all fun and unique. The story is also a little bit of a slow burn without too much being thrown at you at once, perfect pacing. I just can’t wait for the next one.
Alternate universe, cultivation, fantasy races, race for safety, unconventional romance
Great story. Pacing was spot on, with plenty of character development. I'm not sure if Casey's new friend may become a love interest; Maude keeps saying it wouldn't bother, and growing up in such a household where multiple wives was the norm makes it more believable. I guess we may see what happens in the next book.
Enjoyable second book.. Easily as good as the first if not better quit. The story adventuring through the countryside, trying to reach your destination, but woah , there are many obstacles. The power of progression is slow but steady. The MC is certainly not a mega killer. yet. However, the seed is planted. Can't wait for the next book
These books seem to be something fresh, new, and exciting, but at the same time, comfortably familiar. The book is full of cleverly reimagened Nordic lore, D&D influences, obscure concepts that only serious fantasy nerds will catch, but most enjoyable are the true origional conceps and approaches M presents in these books.
Great sequel to the story! Dropped right in and I devoured the whole story in a day. Only thing I didn't like is that I have to wait for the next! Luckily the author puts out books at a good pace.
Delightful story with spicy scenes and characters who grow and develop. Good world building, interesting plot and well written. I look forward to seeing where the series leads.
A great romp of a story a man from another world thrown into cultivation viking style with a seax goddess as a partner and a flatulent elk what more could you want, sexy times yes plus fighting cultivation and a great story ark.
Even better than book 1, when can I expect book 3?
Brilliant fun. Great world building, plot and characters. More please ASAP. A slightly weird cross between RPG medieval with flying boats and different pantheon. Limitless potential.
I enjoyed the 1st Of the steel forged legacy And this 1 is more in the same vein I gotta say it was Suspenseful funny had some sexual And it had friends with honor and those without a honor I hope they write the next 1 soon
Excellent writing and presentation, fascinating take on Norse mythology and characters. Very enjoyable. Going to be hard to wait for the next - both in this series and the others this author is masterfully bringing forth. Highly recommended.
A good continuation of the story, with some new characters to discover, I quite liked it. Still a large part of the book is about just our 3 main characters.
This was another pretty strong book by the author. It does appear to be a mono-romance to date, despite the blade/woman pushing him to enjoy others. We'll have to see if that changes at all in book 3.
