Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Trope: Secret not so baby/second chance Angst: 😰😰 Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥 Triggers: none
What a feel good, emotional story! Sawyer and Jo had all their firsts together until Jo’s father conspired to keep them apart. Jo tried, but couldn’t find Sawyer to tell him she was pregnant and for 15 long years, she raised her daughter, alone. A chance meeting in an ER bring the two high school sweethearts face to face again and give them their second chance.
I really enjoyed this story so much. I love secret “baby” tropes with the kids are older and this one was fantastic. I loved how they jumped right back into trying to make it work after some initial drama, despite the years past and that their wasn’t a whole lot of relationship angst between the two of them. Just a reconnecting and a second chance for what they lost. There’s a bit of MC drama, but that’s about it. It really was a sweet story that I’d highly recommend!
Fender is book 5 in the Kings of Retribution Louisiana Chapter series. Fender and Jo were childhood friends turned lovers when a case of miscommunication changed their plans forever. Now 15 years later Fender runs into Jo for the first time and while all the old hurts are still there so is the love he had for her. What Fender doesn't expect is a beautiful 15-year-old daughter named Sawyer. I really enjoyed this story, Fender and Jo pretty quickly jumped right back into lovers and Fender did his best being a Dad. Overall, this series is perfect if you want possessive, yummy bikers but none of the darkness that sometimes comes with them.
Fender was the fifth book in the Kings of Retribution, Louisiana Chapter by the authors Crystal Daniels and Sandy Alvarez.
Fender and Jo were childhood sweethearts that ended fifteen years prior in heartache and betrayal. They hadn’t seen each other once in that time but neither forgot the other, even though it was cloaked in bitterness and anger.
Fast forward fifteen years and they unexpectedly crossed paths again. Some things changed, while others didn’t. The authors took us through the back story while navigating through another MC conflict. It had all of the suspense, violence, drama, and family bonds that we’ve come to expect in the series. I wanted a little more depth for each story within the story, but all in all, it was another success and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
Romance trope: MC; second chance; secret baby Series: The Kings of Retribution MC, Louisiana Length: 232 pages
Plot: Jo moves to New Orleans with her teenage daughter for a better job and once there runs into her teenage love, her daughter's father - the one who got away. Both she and Fender are hurt by their past but will come together for their daughter's sake. Maybe they can heal each other and find the love they were always meant to have.
Commentary: Well they just decided not to address any of their past trauma. That's cool. It'll definitely never come up ever again. They both thought the other abandoned them and didn't want to hash that out? There's this point where it seems her father was the cause of all the trouble, so since neither of them was wholly to blame (although he shouldn't have walked away so quickly without talking to her, that's true) they should have settled it. I do have a bone to pick with the mom though - if Jo was like a daughter to you and you liked her, why wouldn't you have given her a hint and told her where Fender was so they could work that out? I don't think Jo was obligated to tell Fender's mom that she was pregnant; maybe she wanted him to be the first to know. At any rate, it was weird that the mom said nothing to either of the couple about that conversation.
Also, as many other reviewers have mentioned, having both the father and daughter with the same name was confusing. If Fender had exclusively used his road name, it would have been okay, but there were enough people calling him by his birth name that it did become weird.
Grammar/formatting: needed another round with the proofreaders
Above all. I will never believe in Tik-Tok again. Or the people who said this book was deep and good and that the romance was excellent. Maybe we read another book, or maybe they are blind.
So FMC and MMC were together 15 years ago, but a misunderstanding causes MMC to disappear without a trace. Then it turns out that the FMC is pregnant. 15 years pass and they meet again by chance. He is upset, she is angry. And they should talk, but they're just angry. Until he finds out that he has a daughter.
So my problems with the book are: 1: Father and daughter have the same first name. And it's fucking annoying when they're in a scene and they're talking to each other and they're both called Sawyer. Who the hell is talking to who? 2: The supporting characters' names are so ridiculous. Omg, so many stupid names, I can't even count. 3: FMC and MMC were in conflict with each other. A realistic enough conflict. And how was it resolved? "I'm mad at you!" "No, I'm mad at you! " "Oh look, I have a daughter!" "Come over for dinner!" "Nice. She loves me without question or hesitation" "MMC, you have to save us from a problem that I could easily handle if I were viable. But I'm not. And I am a poor, lonely woman who, of course, needs to be rescued." "Let's fuck!" "I love you" "I love you" And the problem is solved. 4: The obligatory kidnapping scene. 5: The epilogue was so annoying that I wanted to hit the authors. 6.: The cover is cheap.
This book could be good. But it is not a good book eventually.
I wish I could do more stars. Such an emotional, heart pounding, rollercoaster.
I love everything about the Kings of Retribution, regardless of it's Montana or Louisiana.
Sandy and Crystal outdid themselves here. So much within this book without feeling like too much or overdone.
We've seen Fender in the other books, he sings at Twisted Throttle and is loyal to his club. We learn here, he is a self proclaimed Mama's boy. And I loved seeing his devotion and caring for his mom. He's a more complex character than I would have thought based on his appearances in previous stories.
Fender and Jo grew up together and then suffered a falling out. They don't see each other for 15 years, however through a series of small events they are brought back into each other's orbit. The chemistry is still there and deep down the love is too. The way their story is written is beautiful. They struggle with personal drama and club violence, which kept me glued from page one. I couldn't put it down.
I absolutely recommend this book. And while technically a standalone, reading the other books in the series gives background on the other club members as the characters are all interconnected.
I love getting to visit New Orleans and seeing how all the Kings are. This book was amazing and perfect in the series.
Fender (Sawyer) and Jo were in love until Jo's father decided that his not good enough for her and miscommunication happened.
Now it's 15years later and Jo just moved to New Orleans for a new job with her daughter... Saywer☺ Fresh start for both of them, till the day that Fender comes into the ER. When they see each other it's not a happy reunion.
Fender's life is simple. He has his music, his club and taking care of his mother who has cancer. Seeing Jo again was not a happy reunion for him. He is so angry at her for breaking his heart hears ago... But what will he do when discovers the secret she is keeping😬
Loved the story. Fender once he calmed down was sweet and totally alpha over his girls. Some rival club drama but definitely added in perfectly with the rest of the story. I can't wait to read more about this chapter. This story had everything I love in a good story... Single parent, drama, suspense and romance thrown into the mix. Loved seeing the other members and their women, makes me want to go and read their stories again🥰❤
Fender lost the love of his life though circumstances that made him feel betrayed and never want a relationship again.
I may have taught you how to spread your wings, but you are the one who was brave enough to fly."
Jo lost her job and decided to start over in New Orleans. Little did she know the man she hasn’t seen for 15 years has made this place his home.
"You're fortunate,"
"I am," Riggs agrees. "There is nothing more important than family. And I'm not talkin' about the family you share blood with. I'm talkin' about the kind of family that's sittin' out there."
I love everything this writing duo puts out. There is lots of action with some crazy evil bad guys. A beautiful love story. Sadness and tears, happiness and forgiveness.
A brotherhood where everyone has your back and evil gets what’s coming to them.
Holy wow! This was awesome. Crystal Daniels and Sandy Alvarez have definitely done it again! It has so many layers and depth, so much emotion packed in each page, that the only thing coming out of my mouth is "wow." This book is sexy, exciting and heartwarming…and a little heartbreaking. It also has a lot of humor…pretty sure stalking the movie date is something that many Dad's at least want to do! Fender and Jo are amazing I love love the relationship they have and how even after 15 years its like no time has passed.
Welcome back to NOLA, babies!! I went in blind on this one too, I mean I knew the MC, but not the H/h, and it was awesome!! I love this club, and I was so excited for Fender & Jo! Second chance romance done right
Loving Fender! As we have got to know bits and pieces of Fender in previous books, I was so excited that he finally got his own book, and these authors did not disappoint! Fender is loyal to his club, and still jaded after the end of his childhood relationship fifteen years ago. He gets the shock of his life when he finds Jo, his ex-girlfriend, in the same town as him and hanging out with his MC brother’s girls. Jo has had a rough go of things since she found out she was pregnant at eighteen and Fender gone. After losing her job at the local hospital, she is forced to leave town and move in order to support herself and her daughter. Everything changes when Fender comes back into her life and finds out he’s a father to a teenager. I loved everything about this book and these characters – my heart truly broke for Fender regarding his mother and while I knew it was coming, the ending didn’t make it any easier. I was so happy that these two got their second chance, and Jo was also able to stick up to her father after what he put her through all those years ago. Can’t wait to see who’s next from this chapter of the MC! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This story is about lost loves finding each other after 15 years. Fender is dealing with his mom dying of cancer then he meets his daughter after 15 years. The reunion between Jo and Fender did not go well until after a peepingtom is watching their daughter. Fender and the MC are family and Jo and her daughter Swayer are now part of.
This story has the enemy trying to hurt the MC but most importantly the author tells the story that past history doesn't matter it's day by day living it to the fullest, family blood or not blood matters and someone may be gone but they are always with us.
Now this book isn’t terrible, it just seriously lacks a foundation. Now I’m not sure I used the right word because yes the plot is clear. Single mom moves towns and meets her baby daddy again who doesn’t know about his daughter.
He left her with no explanation after believing she cheated or something. Now I haven’t finished it so I can’t tell you if it gets any better, but I seriously doubt it.
We’re 50% in and I feel like nothing has happened at all yet the main characters have already kissed after literally only seeing each other three times, (two of those times being very short.) He already “feels” an energy for her after they just had their first planned meeting so he could meet his daughter. And he kisses her because he can’t help himself when literally yesterday he was staring at her with hate bc he was still angry for her “cheating”
Mind you they have not discussed their past at all. He just met his daughter and he’s barely spoken to his baby mama after 15 years of going Ghost and resenting her just for him to kiss her so fast?
This book was rushed. I can tell and I’m not even done. I don’t feel like I know the main characters at all. I don’t feel any chemistry between them and there was no build up to that easy ass kiss.
Y’all haven’t seen each other in 15 years, spent the first day arguing and literally a day later he’s kissing her. These people are strangers to each other. Just because you bring up how much they cared for each other doesn’t show us anything.
The story is rushed, the characters lack realistic action and the plot didn’t feel explored enough.
Where’s the fight? The anger? The confusion? At least drag it out a little longer. Everyone must be beyond the average standard of emotional stability for them to get over all this shit so fast.

2⭐️ this book just wasn’t for me I didn’t care for the couple or have any strong feelings for them. Felt all their past issues were resolved too quickly and mostly for the sake of the child, I just didn’t feel the love they had for each other from the pages. It also got confusing because the child and the dad had the same name so sometimes it was confusing who Jo was referring to. I was more interested in the Motorcycle club drama mmmm against their rivals than the romance.
Jo and Sawyer second chance romance was everything. After 15 years they unexpectedly ran into each other and it was not pleasant. Sawyer wasn’t the nicest but when he finally decided to find out about their misunderstanding years before they realized they still loved each other. Jo was amazing and even though at times she came across as soft towards Sawyer she really wasn’t. They cheated the air and made up for lost time. They were very sad moments and very gasping moments also but at the end they had each other and their extended MC family.
This one jumped in fast to Fender and Jo's past and their issues. I was surprised things were resolved so quickly, since there was so much hurt and bitterness on both sides. Instead they focused on the present, something that was needed, and to build relationships that were lost to the past. Throw in a bit of drama from a POS MC going through town and this one was packed with stuff! There were a couple of sad parts, you knew it was coming, but didn't help. I liked focusing on the good parts, like how things ended. Nice to see everyone happy.
Sawyer (Fender) and Josephine (Jo) were inseparable until her father conspired to separate them with lies. Jo became pregnant but couldn't find Fender to let him know about their daughter. She has been raising their daughter for 15 years by herself. A chance meeting in the ER has them reconnecting again. Fender always thought Jo betrayed him and he didn't want a relationship again. Now he finds out he has a teenage daughter and things are not as he was told earlier. He is part of the mc. The mc is in a fight for their lives that will involve everyone Fender cares about including Jo and their daughter. A great read and addition to the series.
I'm having a hard time finding the right words to express how epic Fender's story is. Because it is beyond what I could have expected or imagined. It has so many layers and depth, so much emotion packed in each page, that the only thing coming out of my mouth is "wow." I know I'm not making sense, and I'll probably never be able to explain this book. It's one of those stories that you just need to jump into and be prepared to savor word by word. And maybe have a box of tissues close by as it might come in handy.
The Kings' Sergeant at Arms is known for being laid back and charming. His voice is magnetic, and he commands attention when he takes the stage of Twisted Throttle. Men want to be him, women want him. Yet, until this book, no one can say they truly knew him. So far, we had only tasted mere breadcrumbs of the greatness Fender is.
As Fender moves her sick mother to New Orleans and comes to terms with things he can't solve nor change, he will come face-to-face with Jo, the woman who shattered his heart. Not that Jo was expecting to find him either when moving from Tennessee to Louisiana. There is so much history between these two, yet so many unspoken words and hurt feelings that they will have to deal with before even considering being civil with each other. Except they are not kids anymore and, while they might think the past should stay buried, both know it's time to look at the bigger picture and move forward.
Their epic journey will unfold as a threat looms over the Kings. And while Crystal Daniels and Sandy Alvarez are going darker, Fender's underlying theme remains the meaning of family. Because no matter what happens, they Kings will always have each others' backs.
The love of his life broke him, but if you ask her, he broke her. Not knowing the truth put a gap in their lives that they can never get back. Fate has a funny way of working though and when Fender needs stitches, Jo is the one to help. A blast from the past for them both. We see how they both attempt to handle seeing one another and what they try to fight off. There's hurt, anger, and so many questions. We learn truths and see how lives morph. How each of them become better at communicating what they want. In true Kings style, drama lurks in the shadows and weaves it's way in and out of the entire story. Hitting you where it hurts but keeping you sucked in. It's an amazing continuation of the NOLA chapter.
I don’t even know how to describe how amazing this book is! Sandy Alvarez and Crystal Daniels definitely outdid themselves! Fender is a fabulous addition to an already wonderful series. Fender and Jo are so worth the read and when you throw in Sawyer, Genevieve, Aunt Maggie, Aunt June and the whole Kings of Retribution MC, Louisiana…well it just doesn’t get any better. This book is sexy, exciting and heartwarming…and a little heartbreaking. It also has a lot of humor…pretty sure stalking the movie date is something most dad’s are tempted to do. Fantastic job, once again, ladies…you never let us down!
Fenders book is much more deep and emotional than I ever expected. We have met Fender in prior books but don't actually get to see who he truly is until this book. We find out he's an absolute mamas boy, the love he shows for his mom is absolutely beautiful. Fender also doesn't appear to want the love his brothers have found. We discover that Fender was absolutely wrecked by his high school sweetheart. When they first see each other again it's definitely not all hearts and flowers. There is alot of anger that is there on both sides. As well as a pretty big secret. I loved the family aspect of this book. It was absolutely perfect and beautiful. I read an arc for my opinion
This is sawyer and jos story. They are young and in love and sawyer is “betrayed” and leaves without a trace before Jo can explain and tell she’s the pregnant. Cut to 15 years later and Jo has just moved to new orleabs for a new job and crosses paths with sawyer who’s now in a MC. They CERY quickly fall back in love and the drama comes exclusively from external factors and none from them addressing their past which honestly is a miss for me and why I love secret baby which is just second chance with a twist
Honestly, everything just felt very surface level. We’re told that they were in love 15 years ago but there’s no flash backs and it’s still kinda co fusing on why they separated. We know it’s because of jos dad after whole but the lack of flashback and emotion attached to sawyers abandonment and Jo’s seemingly betrayal was a miss imo.
I wish there was one less story line (the rebels, the creepy neighbor, the boyfriend, the random doctor) in exchange for delving into these emotions a little more. We’re never given that moment of true gut wrenching heart ache when (imo it should be sawyer) realizes they are the reason they’ve lost 15 years. The dad coming back was a nice touch and I kinda wish he was more of the third act drama than the nomads because it just tied up and resolved itself too quickly.
Also the kid being named the same name as the dad got real confusing
Spice: 🌶️🌶️

I loved Fender's story. This book went straight to their story almost. Though I thought that Jo's father was gonna be the problem in their lives, which I kept expecting for him to kidnap her or her daughter, it turned out he was handled quickly. I had forgotten about the Reaper's Nomads, they came back into the story. I loved how the authors made Jo tough & had her fighting back the Nomads when she gets kidnapped by them. THEN, when she gets shot during the shoot-out, I'm thinking she got shot in the leg, but in nnnnnooooo, Fender finds out she was shot in the back!! I started to cry at this moment cause fender then started to do chest compressions on her & she yells at her to hold on for their daughter (ugly crying at this point). Then, Sawyer, their daughter walks up to her daddy & tells him that she misses her so much & he says he does to.... I hung my head & said NO NO SHE CAN'T BE DEAD!!!! This can't be how the story ends! This is not an HEA!! Jo is missing her daughter's sweet sixteen! Then, as they are singing happy birthday to her I am crying again cause Jo isn't there to celebrate with her. As Fender is giving her the keys to her birthday gift, GUESS WHO SAYS... SAWYER, PLEASE TELL ME YOU DIDN'T ... Yep you guessed it, JO!!!! The ending to this story was so wrong to trick me like this , but I absolutely loved it!! I can't say it enough I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SERIES!!!! On to the next book!
I’ve loved every book I’ve ever read by these 2 authors. As always no 3rd act breakup. Second chance romance. Secret baby (teen lol).
Summary: Fender loved a girl named Jo 15 years ago who he thought cheated on him. He saw her kiss another guy and ran. He completely shut her out for 15 years. Jo ends up pregnant and 15 years later she moves to New Orleans. She runs into Fender at the hospital where she works as a nurse and stitches him up. He’s angry at her, she’s shocked. The next day he goes back to try to talk to her and he ends up running into Jo’s daughter as well. He immediately knows she’s his and he wants to meet her. Jo talks to Sawyer and Sawyer agrees to meet her father and is super excited about it. They all become a happy family pretty quickly and Fender steps into the role of father really quickly and well. Jo and Fender start a romantic relationship as well. After Jo catches their neighbor peeping on Sawyer, Fender moves them in and they become a family. Another MC starts stirring up trouble. At Fender’s mother’s celebration of life party they shoot up the place. Sawyer gets injured and Jo gets kidnapped. The guys save Jo and everyone lives HEA!!!!

I will never get enough of the Kings of Retribution series! I absolutely love these guys and their families. Fender has always been in the background, and I am so glad that we finally are able to get his story. Fifteen years ago, he walked away from the love of his life due to a big misunderstanding. When Jo appears in his town, he is shocked to find out exactly what happened, he jumps in with both feet to reclaim the life and love that he once had. I ran the full circle of emotions while reading this story. This is such an emotional story which will have you swooning one minutes and crying the next. The Kings of Retribution are there for each other through thick and thin, good times, and bad. The bond that they with each other is unbreakable. Thank you Sandy Alvarez and Crystal Daniels for your excellent writing and giving us a story that will resonate with your readers for quite some time to come.
You guys did it again omg what a book omg I was speechless. Ok I knew fender had a story but omg I didn’t think it was going to be like that. I couldn’t help but feel for him I was shocked when I read about the daughter I was a little confused when I learned his name and than Jo’s daughters name I was like wait a minute am I tripping or is it the same name so I had to go back to make sure my eyes weren’t deceiving me. But yea this is literally emotional not at all like the rest. I was expecting some story between fender and jo but nothing like this. When I started seeing everyone else’s reviews about them being I tears and all this stuff I thought they were just you know bluffing or something. Than I got to reas it and I was like ok now I know why they were all saying it made them bust out crying. Like I said it was emotional 😭 but I loved it the connection they still had the love never left them how he stood by his mom on her last days glad she got to meet the granddaughter and spend time with with her. What I have always loved about their books is that it’s instant love she don’t make them wait a long time to make either characters realize they like each other or their it that’s their person.they don’t make the couple jump through hoops in order to come to realize that’s where they belong yea you ah e either of the characters think it’s to fast and somewhat fight the pull but its not to much. I just lived them you guys I can honestly say I have no words it’s that good highly recommend it y’all need to read it ASAP can’t wait to see where we go from here.
Fender & Jo: TRIGGERS: cancer, kidnapping, assault, tax evasion. This book had me in tears and OMG S.A. & C.D. really had me broke down. So this is a second chance romance. Fender is down in the dumps dealing with the illness of his mother and also hurting over a love lost years before. Jo is a nurse who recently lost her job and in order to find a job and care for her 15 year old daughter, she moves them to NOLA. A chance encounter finds Fender in the same hospital as the love of his life, Jo and he's not happy. Too many things were at play to separate the lovers but now they're in the same place at the same time. Time to figure out what's what… Fender and Jo are hot and also funny. The rest of the club doesn't slack on their duty as family and protection. While all this is going on, there's a new club in town trying to take over but the kings are not having that. Such a great story.
