I enjoyed this book but it is slightly different from the previous books in the series so far. This is because it is a crossover with the authors other series and as they have a supernatural element to them it was obvious they were going to bring some of that element to this book. It's not supernatural as is witches and werewolves extra but with Tabitha (Tabby) involved there is a talking ghost cat on board, alongside the intuitive and clever Pickles. The story is told by either Olivia (the main character of this series) or Tabby (from Tabitha Chase Days of the Week series) and each chapter is dedicated to each character as she played her part in solving the case. This works well and kept the story interesting. They are also joined by Mallory and Amber (from Mallor Beck Cozy Culinary Capers) and I liked the crossover, as the characters worked well together to make an unusual and entertaining story. The mystery was good, with a number of suspects. I look forward to catching up with everybody at the wedding and hope the author really does plan to write a follow up book.
With rumours of staff smuggling alcohol on board Moonlit Majesty, security chief Miles asks Olivia and her intuitive cat Pickles to help with embarcation. Pickles doesn't find anything suspicious but he quickly makes friends with three new passengers. When Olivia gets called to take photos in a different location the three friends offer to look after Pickles. Pickles has other ideas and soon has the three friends tuning around ship looking for him. He leads them to a mystery that needs solving. A free member died in quarantine but nobody seem to know much about him or what happen. All they can agree on is he used to have a cat, a cat that needs Tabby's special help. When crew members start to fall sick Olivia and her new friends with the help of Pickles start to investigate. Can they find out what is going on? Or even help Miles solve his case?

I read this book in segments on Denise’s Ream site and this is my honest, voluntary opinion since I wasn’t required to post a review when I read it.

If you’re a fan of Denise Jaden’s other two series, Mallory Beck’s Cozy Culinary Capers and Tabitha Chase’s Tabby Chase Days of the Week Mysteries, well you’re in for a treat here because all three of the sleuths come on board The Moonlight Majesty for a cruise expecting a relaxing time but it turns out to be anything but that!

There was a death some months back before the girls even were around but as it turns out there were actually two who were murdered and one is still aboard who only Tabby can hear!

The girls, especially Amber are smitten with Pickle as he reminds them of their own cats at home, Hunch and Sherlock. As the girls and Olivia look into what transpired, something doesn’t add up and when the librarian on board is poisoned and then Amber things get serious for them to expose the killer!

As always Pickle has his paws in solving this mystery and exposing the guilty party along with confirmation from one of the deceased who is still on board to collaborate it!

I throughly enjoyed this exciting tale and enthusiastically recommend this book to everyone (whether or not you like cats but it’s a big plus if you do)! Somebody got away with murder but with four women and a feline plus some other worldly help the perpetrator doesn’t stand a chance!

I know you’ll enjoy this adventure and if you haven’t read those other two series or read the other books in this series, now is the time to start! You’ll find these characters addictive and you’ll want to read more of their adventures back where their series take place!

Give it a read- you’ll be glad you did, that I can honestly guarantee!

Murder in the Crew Quarters, the third installment in Denise Jaden’s Olivia Ocean Cruise Ship Mysteries, is as breezy, warm, and deceptively dangerous as a tropical vacation gone wrong. With an irresistible blend of quirky charm, light suspense, and a fearless feline sidekick, this cozy mystery sails along with just the right balance of humor and intrigue.

From the opening line—“My cat was convinced his leash was a toy”—Jaden reintroduces us to Olivia Ocean, cruise ship photographer-turned-sleuth, and her mischievous ginger cat Pickle, who continues to steal the spotlight with his uncanny knack for sniffing out danger. The tone is playful and intimate, making readers feel like welcome passengers aboard the Moonlit Majesty. But as with any good cruise-based mystery, the calm seas don’t last for long.

As a new wave of passengers boards the ship, Olivia finds herself befriended by three women who immediately stand out—particularly the youngest, who forms a fast bond with Pickle. What seems like a wholesome subplot turns quickly into something darker when Pickle leads the trio into the crew quarters, where an eerie corridor and a string of suspicious discoveries suggest something far more sinister beneath the luxury and laughter.

Jaden has a clear knack for cozy storytelling. The pacing is measured and comfortable, allowing readers to soak in the cruise ship setting without feeling adrift. The descriptions of shipboard life—embarkation chaos, buffet etiquette, and even Olivia’s daily hustle for the perfect passenger photo—lend an air of authenticity. If you’ve ever been on a cruise, you’ll recognize the rhythms. If not, Jaden makes you feel like you’re there, fruity drink in hand.

What really makes the story shine is Olivia herself. She’s relatable and determined, juggling grief, ambition, and the need for connection after losing her grandparents. Her friendship with security officer Miles, her banter with coworkers, and her unwavering commitment to her cat (and increasingly, to solving mysteries) give the series a steady emotional heart.

Though this third book can be read on its own, returning fans will appreciate how Olivia’s sleuthing instincts continue to sharpen, and how her relationships deepen with each installment. The mystery itself—centered in the usually off-limits crew quarters—adds a layer of danger and secrecy that elevates the stakes. While the eventual resolution might not completely shock seasoned mystery readers, the path to it is delightfully entertaining.

The book will appeal to fans of The Cat Who series by Lilian Jackson Braun, Ellie Alexander’s Bakeshop Mysteries, and anyone who enjoys lighthearted whodunits with charming protagonists, found-family themes, and an adorable animal companion who just might be the smartest one on board.

Overall, Murder in the Crew Quarters is a cozy cruise mystery with heart, humor, and just enough suspense to keep the pages turning. Denise Jaden continues to deliver the kind of feel-good, cat-approved mystery that’s perfect for fans of gentle crime-solving with a splash of high-seas adventure.

Murder and Mystery . . .

Olivia Ocean, the photographer, was ready to greet the new group of passengers coming aboard the Moonlit Majesty. Surprisingly, her security manager friend, Miles Blackwell, suggested having her cat Pickle nearby but out of sight while the security team checked the bags of new guests since illegal activity was common even on a cruise. And Pickle was definitely a pro at sniffing out that kind of activity. Did Miles have something in mind this time? Her boss Philip, whose attitude toward her annoyed her, has a special assignment for her. Andrew would take over photographing here at the gangway while she was sent to the Majestic Lounge to cover the suite guests. It was sort of a compliment since usually senior photographers got that task. A group of 3 young women approached, Tabby, Mallory, and Amber, obviously new to cruising. She took their picture and directed them to the Lido Buffet while they waited for their cabins to be prepared. But she glimpsed Amber, knelt down and playing with her cat which would draw too much attention.

The women offer to cat-sit, which is a huge help to Olivia, and it doesn’t take long for Pickle to lead them to the crew quarters to stir up a mystery about waiter Johnny Champlain’s death a few months ago! It just so happens that the three guests have their own talents and are perfect at investigation and finding answers. And as expected, our hero Pickle leads the way! (Enjoy the crossover of Mallory and Amber from Mallory Beck Cozy Culinary Capers, and Tabby from Tabitha Chase Days of the Week Mysteries as they show their talents on the Moonlit Majesty.) And there is still another hidden mystery to find, so don’t miss this story!

Olivia makes some new friends when some familiar faces take a cruise. Mallory Beck and Amber Montrose (Culinary Capers) and Tabitha Chase (Days of the Week) are onboard the Moonlit Majesty for a week of relaxing and good food. They connect immediately with Olivia over her precocious kitten, Pickles. When Olivia has Amber catsit for her, Pickles leads them straight into another mystery. Suddenly their relaxing cruise is filled with danger and intrigue.

Denise Jaden creates a wonderful crossover book that has the amateur sleuths from all her series solving a cold case that ends up being connected to Miles’s current concerns. The story unfolds with chapters alternating between Olivia’s and Tabby’s POV. For readers new to Ms. Jaden’s work, this helps to establish the characters without slowing down the momentum for her long term fans. Tabby acknowledges that she may seem crazy as she communicates with Ghost Cat as her witchy nature can’t be revealed. Olivia has only her instincts to tell her that she can trust these women she just met. Miles certainly trusts that Olivia has good instincts and Pickles has uncanny abilities, and gives more leeway to the others than he might otherwise. Mallory’s grounded and methodical approach and Amber’s youthful and brash demeanor round out the investigative team nicely. The mystery itself is well plotted and leaves you guessing. Olivia adds more people to her found family, and the groundwork is set for more crossovers in the future.

The third book in the Olivia Ocean Cruise Ship Mystery series is a page turner. Olivia, the photographer for the Moonlit Majesty cruise ship with her really intuitive kitten, Pickle are asked to help by security chief Miles with boarding the travelers since he suspects there's something illegal going on. This book is a cross-over with the author's other two series, Beck’s Cozy Culinary Capers and Tabby Chase Days of the Week Mysteries embark. When Olivia gets busy, Amber says she'd watch Pickle and when Pickle has other ideas, Amber, Mallory and Tabitha have to chase down Pickle. And of course, we have a body. So Olivia, Pickle and Miles have to investigate with the help of the girls. Can they find a murderer before they reach a port? Does Tabitha use her special power to help? This is a fun third book and I love how Olivia and Miles seem to be getting closer. I not only highly recommend this book but I recommend the entire series as well. I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Fun book!

This is book 3 in the series, and it is also a crossover book with 2 other series the author has written. You don't have to have read the other books in any of the series to enjoy this, but it'll pique your interest in doing so!

Mallory, Amber & Tabby (from the other series) have booked a vacation on the Moonlit Majesty, and Olivia really takes to them, and Amber is enchanted with Pickle. She offers to babysit the cat, and of course, Pickle takes off and leads the vacationers to the crew quarters, Without giving too much away, it leads to a mystery. I did not figure out the full resolution of the mystery til it was revealed.

The characters are wonderful and relatable, the plot exciting, the twists and turns many, and the entire book is just a well written story that will have you not wanting to put it down.

More, please - I'm ready for the next one!!

Murder in the Crew Quarters is book #3 in the Olivia Ocean Cruise Ship Mysteries series by Denise Jaden.

I really enjoyed this book. It brings Tabby from the Tabitha Chase Days of the Week Mysteries and Mallory and Amber from the Mallory Beck Cozy Culinary Capers onto the Moonlit Majesty. You didn’t need to have read those books to enjoy this one, but for fans, it is a treat getting to see them again. I enjoyed how Olivia is getting more comfortable and her relationship with Miles is progressing. Pickle is the star! When Tabby, Mallory, and Amber offer to cat-sit Pickle, it is a huge help to Olivia. Pickle gets the three women involved in a mystery related to an earlier death on the ship that requires special abilities. The twists kept me guessing until the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Olivia Ocean finds herself in another pickle and once again Pickle the hero kitten comes to her rescue. The latest voyage brings visitors from Denise Jaden’s 2 other cozy mysteries and this combined group works to solve the latest mystery aboard the Moonlit Majesty. Great to see all the characters meet and interact. The crossovers really work well. Each brings their own unique qualities to the story. Fun to see Tabby out of her town and what happens to her “special gifts”when she’s away. Amber is excited to find Pickle on the ship as she adores cats. And of course Pickle is the guiding force to help solve the mysteries. Such a fun installment and can’t wait to see all the characters interact again at Tabby’s wedding in a future book.

New Friends or New Problems?

Pickle has some new adventures in this third book of the series. He has a passenger who loves animals and is helping out by babysitting him, but he is very sly and gets out and unearths another mystery. This book is a crossover and brings Tabby of the Tabitha Chase Mysteries and Mallory and Amber from the Culinary Caper Series to the Moonlit Majesty for rest and relaxation. They help Olivia and Miles find out what really happened to a crew member who died in his cabin before they joined the ship, but whose cat seems trapped in limbo. Excellent Adventure and lets me know what I'll be reading after this series. Can't wait to read the other two series by Denise Jaden.

Cruising crossover

In general I’m not a huge fan of crossovers. I usually just find them confusing. That being said with the cruise ship being the backdrop this one works really well. The main characters from the three series have a lot in common and get on well from the get go. Since we can’t have a story without a mystery this one actually doubles down with two a mysterious death and a smuggling ring. My only negative is when the climatic scenes come about the switch in narration is a bit irksome. Love the developing relationship between Olivia and Miles and I can’t wait for the next time they set sail!

Olivia Ocean has a lot to do so when she’s joined onboard by three familiar characters who offer to look after Pickles the cat ,it’s a great help. There’s also a resident ghost cat onboard to help out . Why you say because of course there’s a mystery afoot.Miles Blackwell of the security team has Pickles do when they do best ,a sniff at new passenger baggage on the sly ,could pay dividends ,my oh my.What a ploy ,what a plan , clever man. Of course with this cross over element it’s elementary too that a little supernatural is at work to solve the case too. Brilliant immersive story and great writing too

Just like TV shows, the mains from Jaden's Tabitha Chase and Mallory Beck's books have crossed over to Olivia Ocean's world on the cruise ship she works on.

But mysteries still follow them around as they team up in this edition on an old case they didn't even realized needed solving. Along with furry resident Pickles and Tabby's ability to connect to Ghost Cat, they end up on a mission together to get to the bottom of a previous death of a crew member without adding more bodies to the mix.

New friends for a cold case!

Keeping Pickle out of sight while she takes photographs can be a challenge so when three women passengers volunteer to cat sit, Olivia is happy to accept. Pickles escapes and leads them to the crew quarters. Soon they join forces with Olivia to solve a cold case mystery.

I always enjoy cozies that include animals. This was an interesting case to solve. Having characters from two other series made it special. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.

Cat’s Stats
Detective- Olivia Ocean
Sidekick- Pickle the Cat
Law Enforcement- Miles Blackwell
Crime- Murder
Victim- Johnny Champlain (cold case)
Guest Appearance- Mallory, Amber, and Tabby from other series presumably by the same author.
What I liked- I particularly liked Tabby. I thought her ability was hear cats’ thoughts was really cool, too. I actually liked her better than Olivia, although I am in love with cruise ship mysteries.

I absolutely loved this cozy mystery! The cruise ship setting is super fun, and the trio of sleuths won me over right away smart, curious, and impossible not to root for. And Pickle the cat? A total scene stealer.

What starts as a simple cat sitting favor quickly turns into an intriguing mystery with just enough twists to keep you hooked. It’s light, smart, and delightfully cozy. If you're into charming characters, quirky adventures, and cats with attitude, this one's a must read!.

"Murder in the Crew Quarters: Olivia Ocean Cruise Ship Mysteries" is an engaging and enjoyable mystery novel. Denise Jaden presents a murder case accompanied by a full entourage of detectives. The strong characters make the implausible seem believable. Nothing is dark—except the crime itself. A thoroughly captivating read.

This was a really fun story Olivia works onboard a Cruise ship as a Photographer. She meets three Woman who are friendly and the youngest volunteers to watch her kitten Pickles while she works. The kitten gets away and leads them to a crew cabin. The mystery deepens when they discover a crew member had died and no death certificate can be found. I enjoyed this book and I recommend it.

A good story with lots of drama and some surprises. The writing flowed seamlessly from beginning to end. I love the way the author brought together four women from three series to solve this case. I felt that all the characters worked well together and blended together to form a respectable team. A good afternoon read.

I really love when authors bring characters from other series into books. Cross overs for the win. Especially when that author handles the fact that readers might not know all the characters well. I want to go back and read the rest now.

Lovely crossover!

Tabby! I love that Tabby comes to visit, and also Mallory and Amber, and that this book brings three series together. You can read this as a standalone, but it’s much more fun to read the other books first! That makes it extra special! Pageturning book that I thoroughly enjoyed!

I really liked this crossover. At first I didn’t know who Tabby was because I haven’t read her books. Then I knew Mallory and Amber seemed familiar to me but couldn’t place it…(I read so many books at first didn’t recognize) then it was like “oh yeah!! That’s them. “ I really liked the mystery part of it. I may just read the Tabby books now . Happy Reading:)

This is a crossover with the authors other series (Mallory Beck’s Cozy Culinary Capers and Tabitha Chase’s Tabby Chase Days of the Week Mysteries). However, all the characters worked well together.
