Noragami meets My Happy Marriage in this mix of romance, action, and suspense that has already won legions of fans!
Young, cheerful Nanao can’t wait to marry her betrothed, Reito, the young lord of the Byakurenji family. But that changes one night when she is attacked by a vengeful yokai spirit--an ayakashi--leaving her scarred with the mark of a demonic curse. Her cousin Akemi seizes the chance to steal away her fiance, but it doesn't matter. Reito now finds her repulsive, and Nanao is forced to wear a monkey mask to hide her scar and live the life of an outcast. Years later, she meets Yako, the willfull young scion of another noble family. When Nanao's mask shatters after an accident, Yako sees her face and is drawn to her beauty and great spiritual power. But there’s more to the handsome young lord then meets the eye, and when Yako offers Nanao a way out of her torturous life, the new life that awaits her is filled with more mystery and intrigue that she could ever imagine...
the facial expressions go crazy but it’s so annoying how every woman in this manga is an antagonist against nanao… like come up with original villains please…
Another fantastic volume. omg i am ready for more demon hunting!! but also waiting is killer when it ended like that!
I am just loving Nanao's development so much. I hope we get to see more intimacy between the couple as time goes on too without people getting in the way. i love when they make people jealous and get jealous themselves though.
4 stars. I like the continuing growth of confidence in the heroine, the bigger picrure of the court and clan elites, nd the heroine making new friends. The ending was a cliffhanger, while the annoying girl continued to be annoying and having no redeeming actions or qualities.
The artwork for the psycho women really gets the point across. Shinobu is far too extreme - no matter how much her father dotes on her, it’s hard to imagine he would let her be this out of control, particularly if everybody is laughing at her. Although I did find that part a little bit unrealistic, since they’re all sucking up to her right before that. But all her antics definitely reflect poorly on their family. The previous volume made it sound as if the clans are at the disposal of the nobility, but here they reversed that. It sounds like there is a real fear of Yako taking offense and his clan getting angry. That would make more sense from a realistic point of view. It mentions that her father is the biggest donor to their organization, when really everyone should be required to support the organization that keeps them safe.
I wonder what the story behind her assistant is. Besides the fact that he is clearly the mastermind of all the problems that’s been happening… unless this was the plan that Yako’s mother alluded to.…? It would nicely get rid of both girls. I guess it’s a good thing the orangutan finally appeared so that it can be killed and her mark disappear. Nanao is pretty stupid to have stopped and tried to talk to Shinobu, let alone rescuing her when she was clearly the one causing the problem. She has no way of knowing if.Yako’s orders changed, and if he is a necessary warrior, what are they going to do to him?
At least the brother turned out to be a normal, sane guy when he’s not around his mother. Glad he’s not gonna be stuck with crazy girl either.

This edition focuses on another bout of marriage scheming as readers learn about the power levels of various clans and demons. The romance is saccharine despite the vampiric undertones. Some will find the predictable beats comforting while others might get bored. The character list is lengthening which might become an issue in future panels. These chapters added some nuance to Takaya’s character (lightening his black hat status) which is always a plus. Still, it is a rough cliffhanger ending. >>>>>^^^^^<<<<< Financial donations force Yako to guard Shinobi directly while she uses newspapers and capital rumors to try and get her engagement with the Hero of the Capital reinstated. The frustrated couple attempt to make do. Takaya gives Nanao one of his newly created magical tools admitting he knows his mother’s failings but placates Tokiko’s craziness rather than confront it. Meanwhile while visiting the hospital, Nanao meets Countess Kayo and makes her and her grandson Masumi some traditional red-bean rice cakes. They decide to step in with Shinobi before she angers the Benitsubaki clan enough for them to strike back at the nobility. Still Shinobi cannot take the humiliation, so she uses Takei’s whistle to summon many demons and pushes Nanao towards the orangutan akayashi who attacked her years ago.

Once the fiancée of the Byakurenji family, Nanao is now considered tainted after being attacked by an ayakashi. She is shunned and abused until Yako, head of another family, decides to take her for his bride. Yako's motives are unclear but for Nanao this is a way out.
The art is beautiful and it doesn't shy away from depicting the scars Nanao carries. There is a fair bit of world building. At first it seemed as if the romance may be progressing too quickly for my liking, but it seems more transactional at this point and I imagine actual romance will come later down the line. It's definitely an interesting start and I look forward to where this story is headed.
Shinobu continues to be a challenge, but it seems the rest of her family does not share her opinion, especially after Nanao unexpectedly makes friends with her grandmother. Yako isn't too pleased with her manipulations either, though it seems his brother isn't nearly as bad as he comes across in the previous volume. Now Nanao is in more danger than ever, though this set up could work to her advantage if Yako makes it time given the answer to removing her spirit seal from the doctor's office. Hopefully the next volume will turn the tides back in her favor even more.

Hands down my least favorite volume of this series so far. Why are we spending so much time on Shinobu? She’s not interesting and is obnoxious. Yako was barely in this volume which was a weird choice. Nanao was great as she showed compassion and understanding of Takayas situation and loyalty to his and Yakos mother. She also is continuing to have a powerful voice and is showing she’s no longer going to let people abuse her. The ending cliff hanger was hands down the best part. I am now going to look to see how long I have to wait for volume six. Hopefully Shinobu will go away.
okay this volume was PEAK drama and I absolutely loved it. Shinobu is such a classic villainess and I'm loving Nanao growing stronger, more confident, and more secure in herself/her relationship with Yako because of it. it was so entertaining to see Shinobu's grandmother not only bond with Nanao, but also seriously knock Shinobu down several pegs in front of her 'friends' haha. the ending being that crazy of a cliffhanger.....hope Yako comes and Shinobu gets what's coming to her!!

I’m really over the super jealous evil woman, there are more than one and it’s a lot. They are cute together though. Watching them be kind, loving, understanding, and engaged. Amazing green flag couple.
For me, this series would be more enjoyable if all the female characters weren’t put in competition for this one man’s attention. All of the cattiness is very off-putting and very 2013. Please let female characters have normal relationships with each other~
Nanao me llena de orgullo, que protagonista mas buena y capaz!! Su relación con Yako cada vez es mas linda, estoy deseando ver mas escenas bonitas de ellos! Y el final del tomo?? Necesito leer el siguiente ya!!
better than the last but still, one character in particular ruining the reading experience. hopefully we don’t drag on with her in it this entire series
