Ruth and Stephen only meant to be friends. In the 1960’s interracial relationships were disapproved of and they knew their families would never accept anything more than a casual friendship between them. But the more time they spent together the more they realized their destiny was to be together…even if society felt it was wrong.
One look at Ruth and Stephen knew she was the woman for him. If only he could convince her and their families that their relationship could last forever...
I’m trying to have an open mind about this book. There are many white peoples that think they are accepting of all but have a lot of biases. And certain phrases are bugging me.
Tolerant- I’ll tolerate you 🙄 glad in sone cases “and acceptance” was added Those “kinds of people” as if another race is another species. And it just seems like it’s belittling the neon white races
Damn Ruth’s parents are cold af. And it’s crazy to hear stephen’s Mother say they wouldn’t disown him when they told him he can stay for a bit to find. Someplace but then leave.
Ruth and Stephen went through it. I sure most times the black family was more supportive not to say the reverse didn’t happen like in this book. I’m just glad they had some to ha e their backs
Ruth and Stephen's love story was so believable and realistic in the way that the author told the story. I rooted for them from the beginning and their youth didn't hold them back from walking their own path to independence and self discovery as a couple and as individuals. I also loved the emotional atmosphere of the 💘story which helped to enhance their determination and struggle to be together. Great love story and a highly recommended read.
This story was a testimony to the harrows of interracial relationships in our nation in the 60's. I'm sure this tale was extremely light compared to what was others people's realities, but it was a short but satisfying read.
Absolutely loved reading this book and reading about the struggle of this young couple. Would definitely recommend to anyone who don't mind laughing and then crying form all the up's and downs this book will take you through.
