I should say that Wesley is a fellow contributor at Horror Novel Reviews. I was a bit hesitant to at first read his book because I didn't want to be put on the spot if I didn't like it. Luckily, I was rather impressed! Terror Train is a collection of six short stories, all with an edge you don’t expect.
The first story, The Miracle of Death is about a brother and sister trying to survive the apocalypse. Enduring a series of misfortunes they are finally rescued, only to find there is no such thing as a happy ending.
Child’s Play is anything but….find out what happens when three boys decide to see just what is secreted away in old farmer McCall’s barn.
In An Odyssey of Terror we meet a young girl waking from one nightmare, only to find herself in another.
Kane is an abusive alcoholic husband and father. When his family finally summons the courage to leave, they find out that you can Never Turn Around.
A Valentine’s Horror, aah the lengths one will go to, to find true love.
I Do What I Do is the story of a pathetic man who finds pleasure in others’ horror, but remember what you do may come back to haunt you.
Hopefully this is just the tip of the iceberg, as I would like to see more from the demented mind of Wesley Thomas. All in all, an enjoyable read.
Author Wesley Thomas has a knack for pulling the reader into his stories, only to rip you open at the end with his twisted visions and macabre plots. “Terror Train” features six stories each bringing the reader close to madness.
Two of my favorites from this collection are:
“The Miracle of Death” - A brother and sister struggle to survive during the apocalypse. With survival within their grasp, they discover that fate has something else in store for the siblings.
‘Wesley Thomas is an author with a great vision and many stories to frighten his readers. Beware though, he’s a sadistic spider in disguise luring readers into his web of delicious, horrific, and sometimes down right brutal fiction. Consider me tangled in his web of horror, I’m waiting and willing to become spider food’ “A Valentine’s Horror” - While this is a shorter piece of fiction, I found it to be refreshing, devilish, and down right brilliant.
If you like your horror in short doses, then “Terror Train” is for you. It’s not about quantity but quality and Mr. Thomas has talent in spades.
I was amazed by this horror collection. The first thing I loved was the way some of the short stories were divided so the tale continued in parts, making it almost feel like a novella. I found the writing compelling and felt the author although a bit demented knew how to make these stories dark and twisted, just right for horror lovers. I found the characters to be well thought out, especially Lucy and Derek a brother and sister who find themselves in a bad situation. All of the stories were great reads and well written by an amazing author.
Each story was very unique in it's own way. I felt that all the stories gave you an image of exactly what was happening. "Miracle of Death Parts 1-7" had to do with zombies and had an incredible ending. (Never Turn Around Parts 1&2) had to do with an awful father who abused his family. The family got away but, then he found them. "Child's Play" was about some kids that break into a farmers barn and definitely don't expect what is about to happen. "An Odyssey of Terror Parts 1-3" had to do with a woman named Tara that just kept seeing different visions of her dying. "A Valentines Horror" is about a a woman named Lisa that wants to find love and just when she thought she was going to have it, let's say that she wasn't happy about the outcome. "I do what I do" is about a sick guy who likes to kill and torture animals and women. I would haver to say this story was my favorite because I loved how it ended. Karma has a nasty way of getting back at you. "The Haunted Church" is exactly how it sounds, but I wasn't expecting it was gonna end the way it did.
