Continuing with the story of these kids traveling with these Digimon, I'm going to go into little more detail about the characters and the plot thus far. Since this was published in the 90's, we begin to see a trend with the type of characters for adventures. This is definitely noticeable in stories with character groups.

Since Tai is the leader he has those typical qualities. He's energetic, adventurous, but also impulsive and eager to jump into action, which causes his life to get into danger. These qualities are quite common for the leader because those traits set up the character for a development that will help the character become a better leader for the team. Tai's not a bad character, but there's nothing about him that has him stand out. But I will say that I do like the fact that he is close to his little sister and they have a close bond.

Matt is the opposite of Tai. With every leader, there is always a rival that will clash with him in both personality and mental thinking. Matt's not as energetic as Tai and he has a little bit of a cold demeanor. He's a loner. He's mature, thoughtful, level-headed, and thinks things through before taking action. While Tai's personality is very outgoing, Matt is more laid-back and easygoing. The two care about their friends and have the same goals but their different outlook on things causes a conflict within the group.

Matt's personality is purposely set up to have him rely on his friends more and no longer isolating himself. Which is fine and common for loner-type characters but nothing really interesting stands out except for this one scene that happens later in one of the last volumes but in the end it really doesn't go anywhere as far as developing the character more or adding a different perspective .

We also get into the actually plot of the Digimon series. And as the plot moves forward we begin to see repetition in the story.

First, the kids get their digimon partners and figure out that their partners can evolve into stronger beings. Then a threat comes, they find a way to defeat that threat and then they go on a quest to make their partners evolve into a stronger form but they only evolve in a specific order where one child and their partner have an epiphany on what they need to discover about themselves and each other and then the digimon evolves. Then another, more powerful threat comes and they have to go on their power quest all over again.

The repetition wouldn't be so bad if the villains they were facing were interesting. Devimon just kind of looks like a devil, Etemon was suppose to be this comedic villain but turned to be more of an attempted Elvis-impersonating pain in the ass. The next villain was a lot more interesting but we'll get to him in later volumes.

As of right now, we have Devimon as our main threat and for the most part, he's okay. The one main thing that he does is separate the main characters, causing them to go on little journeys to find each other and group up to defeat him. He also does start a trend on the climaxes of the battles when he faces Angemon. Once we see more climaxes with villains, we see a lot of angel-like digimon being the key to defeating 'devil'-like digimon.

But so far, this story is okay. It's neither bad or great but it's a part of my childhood so I like it fine. But I seriously recommend watching this rather than reading the manga.

Again, this is more of the same, and I'm not complaining it's really good. Everyone's Digimon has digivolved at least once by now and T.K'S. Digimon digivolved to an angel out of all things, which is pretty awesome. Overall this book was really good and definitely worth your time, though they left it on a cliff hanger... I hate you Digimon. Anyway this was a great book and on the Ali rating scale this gets a 4/5, the reason being that the pacing felt a tiny bit off.
